This wasn't just lunch--it was an incredible culinary experience. While exploring the boardwalk and searching for a local spot to eat, a friendly local recommended Singh's. Just a few blocks up King Street, we decided to take their advice--and we're so glad we did! We ordered two lunches: shrimp with spinach and mac & cheese, and conch with plantains and rice & beans. Every dish was fresh, hot, and generously portioned. The flavors were exactly what we craved on our Caribbean adventure. If you're looking for an authentic Caribbean food experience and aren't concerned about ambiance, I highly recommend Singh's. The staff was very friendly, and the restaurant was clean. Every now and then you come across a jewel. Singhs is that jewel. We were on a cruise last week that stopped in St. Croix and hired a driver to show us around for a couple of hours. I told him I would like to try some local food that is not a tourist trap and he took us to Singhs which he frequents himself and was definitely known by the person behind the counter. We ordered salted fish, curry shrimp, mac n cheese, sweet potato and beans. OMG!!!! sooo freaking good and priced right for sure. Friends and I toured the island while on a cruise. Our tour guide highly recommended this place, stating it was the only place in town that served local/authentic island food. It's a hole-in-the-wall with a few tables; and a counter that featured a variety of dishes. I ordered the goat along with rice and veggies. My two friends shared a shrimp dish. Everything was very good. The portions were huge!! It's located 0.4 mile walk from the water area where the other touristy restaurants are located. I'd go back!! read more

There are two St. Croix's. This place feeds the ones who work hard all day and get hungry...tourists, not so much. You walk into a storefront and see massive steam tables filled with food . No labels. No prices. The genial proprietor walks you through the options. We opted for boneless chicken and potatoes on a roti and shrimp over rice with stir fried vegetables. We added in a side of mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. The food delivered a credible meal. The filling of the roti was authentically carribean. We added spice and tamarind chutney. Yumm. The roti got soggy too quickly so next time I would skip bread Shrimp etc was also well spiced and tasty. The only disappointment was sweet potato, of all things. I'm not saying this is true but they tasted canned. No alcohol or diet sodas. Customers aren't drinking diet here. Dinner for two $35. Worth checking out! read more

Doubles, where to start? I was on vacation my friend brought us food from here it it was so good..I'm almost sad that I can't get these where I live. The Caribbean population is very low so my chances of having another are extremely low. We enjoyed shrimp, and potato doubles I ate 1.5 but wanted another one. The flaky fried bread was so good, the flavor was all the way there no shortness in that department. I would definitely recommend and I would definitely return. If you're trying to eat healthy watch out, they'll do you in but if you're in vacation on a tropical island trying to enjoy life and all that it has to offer, come here! I'll be the first to give this place a less than stellar review. The goat roti was ok, but the curry chicken was not good. It was dry, the curry was clearly undercooked as it was yellow and not a little brown and it did not come with any gravy. What kinda bacchanal? Who does serve curry chicken with no gravy? *steups* Mind you, they have a Trini flag in this place so they should especially know better. I want to throw it out, however I do not waste and that is the only reason I will be finishing my food. A St. Croix institution with delicious Caribbean food. I've been coming here for 25+ years and the food is always delicious. Vegetarian food, food for the adventurous and not so adventurous. If you're not up entrance just get this delicious stewed chicken with rice and beans absolutely amazing. For vegetarians there are many choices, chickpeas potatoes okra spinach eggplant, all wonderful! For the adventurous I would go for the goat, Conch, or ox tail stew. There are also sweet fried Plaintain's and three different kinds of rice. Some of the best Caribbean food I have ever eaten anywhere. I was craving some roti, and spotted this place across from the bakery, after we had eaten lunch, and vowed to come back! We did get the roti, but couldn't resist ordering a doubles, you can't get those just anywhere! We split the doubles for lunch and took the roti home for another day. We got dinner to go here. I think we had some Johnny cakes, a boneless chicken dinner special, a chicken roti, some chicken/okra, and some rice. My wife didn't like the roti very much, and didn't like the Johnny cake either. My boneless chicken was okay but the chicken/okra side was way too mushy. I also found the Johnny cake to be lacking - it was thick, tough, and didn't have much flavor. I doubt we'd return or recommend Singh's. read more

This is the first place we tried on our visit to St. Croix. We wanted to try a place where locals actually frequent. We heard a lot of good things about Roti from Jamaicans so we decided to give it a try. My wife had the chicken roti which was composed of a mixture of boneless chicken, potatoes, and a curry sauce wrapped in a tortilla shell. I had the goat (bone-in) roti which was the same except for the meat. We both thought our dishes were very flavorful and delicious! A word of caution, however, that if you do not have a high tolerance for spices, say NO to "peppers" when they ask. We both experience pretty serious gastrointestinal "side effects" for about 24 hours after eating it. We believe the "peppers" they referred to were with habanero or scotch bonnet. In terms of the atmosphere, the place is small and set up like a deli counter so you can see the various options. There a are a few seats inside and a few right outside the establishment. Overall, if you are looking for a quick place to eat for cheap, this place is right up your alley! read more

The service wasn't fast, but it's the islands - we didn't expect a rushed pace. Okay, onto the food. Don't miss the sweet potato "stuffing" and Johnny Cakes. They are simple, unassuming and really good. We had the curry goat (not the best curry goat, but tasty), chicken roti (awesome flavor), and stew chicken (I didn't get a chance to try this one).
