Customer service is top notch. SUMMARY: Food is excellent and on the spicy and hot side, food arrives slower than expected. The staff are amazing. Recommended to me the beef dish. I got zero spice and loved it. Was great. Table overall said spice scale was high. Some ordered 2 and struggled, another ordered 5 and wasn't phased. Not consistent, but when eating Tai food I er on the side of caution for me. Spring rolls were good, but again table thought sauce for it was too hot. The food consensus was that it was all delicious. My rice was cooked perfectly. Staff kept my sodas coming the whole time. This place is a little pricy, but to be expected when just off the boardwalk. This is a tourist area so in par for a nice sit down restaurant. Bathrooms were fancy with intricate doors. Amazing food, ambiance, and customer service!! My boyfriend and I had a great romantic dinner here, the green curry was perfect. I was glad the menu clarified that the green and red curry were pescatarian-based, but could be made vegan upon request. The complimentary small bite to start, is a special touch. Our server Bethany was so friendly and helpful, she suggested her favorite wine, which I loved. It was great chatting with her a bit, so we know some people in common. My boyfriend got the beef pad Thai, and didn't realize it had tofu in it, which he doesn't like. He didn't want to eat it, but didn't want to bother anyone by ordering anything else. The chef, Minnie, came out and reassured him that they would be happy to make something for him without tofu. He wanted to be polite and turn it down, but he was so impressed that Minnie would go out of her way to speak to him, and he loved the pad Thai so much and really liked the ginger ice cream. wow, where do I begin? We can start with the food. Our appetizers were underwhelming, and the spice level was not there, the flavors were very simple and it didn't taste the most fresh. There was nothing that stood out to me in any of the food that I couldn't make at home myself with a little bit of effort, let alone at the price point it was at. The curry was supposed to be at a spice level of seven, we got a spice level of seven out of 10 and in order to make it more spicy they just handed us a metal bowl of Thai chili peppers. Then we got the dessert. This ice cream is the least desirable ice cream I've ever had. There was no cream flavor. All the ice cream just tasted like it had used extract. There was no freshness and the flavors were incomplete. The crème brûlée was completely average. The only thing that stood out in this entire meal was the coconut flan, which is not even advertising the menu because they were out of the frozen lemon soufflé. The coconut flan is the only thing I would recommend everything else was underwhelming. I certainly would not go back to this place unless you want the coconut flan. read more

Reservation was at 7:15pm we were seated at 7:20 and ordered around 7:40 and received our food at 8:45. The restaurant was half empty and not a single person came in after us so I'm not sure why it took so long? We were the second to last party to leave. Staff were friendly. The food tasted great. I had the short rib dish and it was full of great flavors. That is where the 2 stars came from. After, we got the bills and I didn't know it costs to drink water, but myself and two others in the party were charged $9 each for water and two people weren't out of five. Maybe tell the party water will cost you extra? Or maybe I just was supposed to know before hand? I'm sure other people have had a different experience but this was ours. read more

For a meat eater this place is going to be great. For a vegetarian it was just ok. Staff is very efficent and very professional. I got more no's than you can shake a stick at when I tried to get a vegetarian main meal. So people, it's appetizer only or the vegan curry as choices. I find that a bit sad, they really should have a standy option. The vegan curry starts at rather spicy and goes up from there. I found prices a touch on the high side for the quality that was being served. I don't know if this is common or if I just had the rough luck of having limited availability. Carnivores will have a great menu and quite possibly great food quality. Please make sure to do a reservation as you will more than likely need one. After being closed for about three months following the hurricanes, Galangal is open again. I went there several times during my three months on the island as part of the relief effort and felt like a regular! The food is fresh, tasty, and not exactly like you might expect for a so called Thai restaurant. They make the sauces in house, which gives them a fresher and more authentic feel then most Thai restaurants. In addition, one of the owners is German and has brought in some German wines to go with the Asian food. As their menu says, if you've never been to Germany, you need to try some of them. They are delightful, and even the Rieslings are not at all sweet, like the American varieties. On my first visit, I had summer rolls, chicken satay with a housemade peanut sauce, and Tom Ka Gai, one of the freshest renderings of that particular soup I have ever enjoyed. Paired with a dry German Riesling, I was sorry I didn't have room to try more of their delightful offerings. On a later visit, I decided to try their mussels. Done in a spicy coconut curry sauce, they were not what you might expect from mussels, but very very tasty. Again, paired with a dry German Riesling, they were hard to beat. Unfortunately, I wasn't on St. Croix long enough to work my way down the menu, but I gave it a fair effort. If you like Asian food, not just Thai, I recommend you do the same. read more

I can't comment on the food as I wasn't able to get seated and served at all. I came in a little before 6pm on a Saturday and let them know I was a party of one. Apparently the bar was full and I suppose there's a rule about not wasting an entire one seat of a two-top for solo diners. Either way, it was pretty surprising to be turned away with plenty of open tables visible from the door. I'm sure I'm missing out on some fully passable Thai cuisine, but I guess I'll never know for sure. read more

Part of good service is being seated within 10-15 minutes of your reservation. We had a 8pm reservation for two, but we checked in at 7:45 and were told that a table for two will open soon because two tables are leaving, and the next table is ours. We waited outside - the only people waiting for the next table. Several other parties appeared after us, including a party of 8, 4, 3 and several couples. About 8:10, two tables became available and were set up. Two couples - straight couples - were called and seated. We immediately complained that we were told we were next, only to be told that the servers didn't communicate with each other. We were told to wait for the next table instead of simply telling one of the couples that a mistake was made. We were seated at 8:45, after waiting outside for an hour. My dinner fork was missing. I said nothing. We ordered drinks. It took almost 1/2 hour - after the appetizer arrived and was eaten, for them to come. We put in our order and two remaining couples were seated in tables adjacent to us. Both of those straight couples immediately-in less than 5 minutes-received their Amuse-bouche. We never did. Both of those couples were told of the daily specials. We were not. Even after we asked why we never received the amuse-bouche we never were offered it. The waitress just apologized for not telling us the specials. The appetizer was disappointing but we admit that the main courses were amazing. Flavorful and spicy, just as we like it. Our drinks were comped. I can count on exactly one finger the number of times I left anything less than a 20% tip. This is the time. After being lied to about the table, no dinner fork, late drinks, no amuse-bouche, and not being advised of the specials, I paid for the food and left. I can't say for sure that we were treated badly because we are a gay couple, but we were the only couple that waited an hour and was treated this way. Heck, we could have been given the table for 3 that was given to a party that arrived 1/2 hour after us, and after we complained, but no. Never again. One star for the main course alone. read more

I usually never leave bad reviews but this place is absolutely disgusting, not just in service but in character. The owner, a rude, disrespectful white man, had the audacity to come up to us--Black women who were simply minding our business, ordering food, and respecting his establishment--just to harass us. He spewed insults, claiming we were "disrespectful" just for existing in his restaurant. Then, he had the nerve to get in my face, so close I could smell every ounce of his foul, rotting breath--I swear I could diagnose his gum disease on the spot. He made some ridiculous comment about this not being a "party" and told us not to "flirt," when we were literally there with family. When we stood our ground, he suddenly lied and said the kitchen was closed, despite us already ordering food. My mom even tried to pay just so we could get out of there safely, but he refused and barked at us to leave. The hostility and blatant discrimination we experienced were unreal. If you care about basic decency, avoid this place at all costs! read more

I called to schedule a dinner reservation a few weeks before my trip to St. Croix. Parking was difficult when I arrived. We entered the restaurant on time and were greeted at the door. We were seated at a table by the front window. I complimented the nice view right away. We ordered drinks and were discussing the menu. A manager approached and asked if we could help him by moving over to a booth. I was disappointed but quickly agreed to move. We were then assigned a new waitress. The next party that arrived requested to sit at the bar for a bit before being seated at a table. The bar seating was empty with a bartender present. The couple was firmly told no your table is ready. They were seated at the window table we were asked to leave. I'm not sure what was the story with the seating over-control but it was not well received. I won't return to the restaurant despite the good quality of the food. read more

I've walked by this restaurant several times and peeked in the window, so we decided to try them out! The decor is an Asian theme,with dark woods, and touches of gold and deep reds. They have life sized statues flanking the doorway that made me feel welcome. I wanted to hang out on the cushy red sofas right away with a martini in hand. Our server Virginia was so attentive and had lovely suggestions throughout the meal. I would request that she serve me the next time I go in. She even went the extra mile and gave me two glass Voss Water bottles to take home(Voss is switching to plastic). I used to have a little collection of them and was missing them (cheezy, I know). The food was amazing! We started with the fried calamari~ probably the best I've ever had. The batter was light and it wasn't chewy like I find most calamari to be. I had the Mahi special with vegetables and an amazing mango chutney. My date tried the green curry dish and had them make it as spicy as possible. He wasn't disappointed! The chef even sent out a sliced fresh Thai chili (which Virginia said the owners grew themselves!) For dessert we had the coconut creme brulee and it was delightful! The coconut flavor was just the right ammount- it wasn't overwhelming. The wine list was pretty simple but offered enough of a selection. We really enjoyed the whole experience at Galangal~ I would HIGHLY suggest you stop by and try something new! Open for dinner 5:30-10:00. Closed on Sundays. read more

We arrived on a Sunday night around 7 with no reservations. Three booths were visibly open, but when asking if they had a table for two, they said "no". But, a second after saying "no", he said he he would try an accommodate us and sat us at one of the three empty booths. Service was fine, slightly pretentious, but also helpful as I'm not very familiar with the tastes from Thailand. I ordered the mussels as an appetizer and hands down the best mussels I have ever eaten. The red coconut curry broth was outstanding and the mussels were plentiful. I ordered the Massaman Green Curry with pork, and have to say, one of the best dishes I've tasted in a very long time. Curry and broth was outstanding. If you're in St. Croix and love Asian food, Galangal is a must. read more

I was lucky enough to have dinner at Galangal the last night they were open in September before closing for the owners' vacation. I was by myself, and was seated at the bar - which, I have to admit, I was a a little worried about, but my worries were unfounded. Gregory, the bartender and one of the owners, made me feel incredibly welcome and is just a lovely person. I started with an amuse bouche, which set the stage for a wonderful meal. I had a mango salad and the holy basil beef, and both were out of this world. I'm always up for dessert, and got the flourless chocolate cake with homemade green tea ice cream. As I told Gregory, I had to really restrain myself from licking the plate - it was that good. Another nice touch? I took half of my entree with me, and Gregory asked if I'd like a little more rice in my to-go container so it would be more of a meal the next day. Such a little thing, but so thoughtful and special. The decor is gorgeous and totally unlike any other place I visited on St. Croix. Just finished up dinner here and it was a wonderful way to close out our trip to St. Croix. We had such a great time dining on the best food we have had since we arrived on the island. We were the only table when we arrived, shortly after they opened, and were promptly seated at the front of the restaurant right by one of the windows. The proprietor was very nice and would check back in with us multiple times throughout our dinner. Service was prompt and attentive. The wine list looked great but we both prefer beer with Thai food so we were pleased when they had an Asian beer on offer. We started with the spring rolls without shrimp and they were light and fresh and delicious with a slightly sweet and tangy dipping sauce. The specials for the evening all sounded very intriguing but I think we were pretty locked in to what we wanted after our first glances at the menu. My wife went with the Massuman curry with beef and I had the beef short ribs with spatzle. Both dishes were amazing, the flavors were subtle and layered and they smelled absolutely wonderful when they arrived at the table. The sauce with my short ribs was light and really good and they were served with blanched greens that added a nice crunch and some interesting balance to the plate. The curry was also spectacular, light and subtle with a lot of flavor. I had the good fortune to help her finish her dinner so we would have room for dessert and I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity. There was an interesting mix of vegetables in with the curry and the green beans in particular added some nice texture to the dish. We opted for one of the dessert specials, a thai chili-infused chocolate terrine with cherries that was served with a raspberry coulis. It was really fun, I've not had spicy chocolate before and while this wasn't intensely spicy it had a nice heat to it that sort of radiated around your mouth, a different sort of dessert experience. We were interested in the coconut creme brulee but I was more intrigued by the chilis as we were pleased with our selection. The restaurant is also very tastefully decorated and is just a great, classic room. We will definitely come back next time we're on the island. read more

Despite being moved from one table to another after we were seated , the proprietors did the right thing and offered us a round of drinks as well as a free dessert. This is exactly how to turn around a "situation ". More restaurants should learn from them. The whole episode was gracious. The food was a Thai fusion and the appetizers were nothing short of perfection , the main courses of short ribs , the salmon special as well as the beef stir fry was superb . This is a true 50/50 review. There's a lot of positives and negatives here. Is Galangal a Thai restaurant, or not? My overall impression is that this is a schizophrenic place that isn't really sure what it wants to be. I thought the decor and overall vibe was nice though. Definitely a nice place for a romantic dinner. My feeling on Asian fusion and places like this is that by not truly focusing on one cuisine, they end up doing nothing really well. Pick one style and go with it. Started with fresh spring rolls, which I would not order again. Rice paper wrap was either not properly hydrated or prepared, or they were old. They were strangely tough and chewy, more like a corn tortilla. The insides were short on protein: One smallish shrimp in each roll. I did not especially enjoy this, but I can't say it was bad. I would not order it again though. A caprese salad was on the special board, so I ordered that. No problem here, except basil was teeny tiny and not much of it. Mozzerella tasted fresh, and the tomatoes were awesome. Bright and zesty, just like a tomato should be. Balsamic and olive oil drizzled all around. This I would order again, but I'd ask for a bit more basil. Pad Thai was pretty dang good. I thought it was a tad heavy on the vinegar or fish sauce, but otherwise good. Not too salty either, which is common. Kitchen was a bit stingy with the beef I thought. Red Thai Curry, which I did not taste, was met with approval by the diner. Prices were fair here, despite its appearance as an expensive place. Wine prices also reasonable. Service was the clear standout for us, as our waiter was friendly but not annoying, and she visited us several times to make sure we were doing fine. Caprese salad, while enjoyable, just doesn't belong on this menu. Its presence only added to my confusion on what kind of restaurant this wants to be. All that being said though, we would certainly come back here for the nice service, decor, and select items on the menu. I believe this to be one of the nicest restaurants in St Croix, and fairly priced too. Just watch out for some items not done to ethnic standards that you might be used to. read more

Wow, really good place. We asked two servers at other establishments where we should go for dinner. Galangal was the first place mentioned by both of them. It is closer to a traditional restaurant setting than any other place we went, which was good for a change of pace. Beautiful room with gorgeous decorations. This is a french-thai fusion restaurant. While some dishes were a fusion, you could also easily veer one way or the other. Beef carpaccio with scallops was incredible, as was the duck and the lamb. All servings we well-sized. What a little gem! Our hotel recommended this place and we absolutely loved it! The decor was beautiful and the staff was extremely friendly and excellent. For appetizers, I ordered summer rolls and my boyfriend had green mango salad special. The salad was really surprisingly spicy, which was a bit shocking. The summer rolls were a bit bland. However, all was forgiven once we moved on to the main course. I had chicken red curry which was cooked to perfection. The vegetables were extremely fresh and the curry had just the right amount of spice. My boyfriend had the beef short ribs and loved them as well. The wide range of desserts was extremely impressive and the ones we chose did not disappoint. I had ice cream with 3 little scoops- guava, coconut sorbet, and green tea. The guava ice cream is one of the best flavors I've ever had. My boyfriend had a frozen lemon souffle which he also loved. We will absolutely be back here next time we travel to St Croix. read more

This is our first restaurant to try once we landed in St. Croix. The ambiance and staff is amazing. The waitress is extremely knowledgeable with the menu and everything she recommended was yummy delicious especially the shrimp pad Thai. It is definitely one of the best I ever had. The shrimp is big and cooked perfectly. The flavor was just right and most importantly the noodles were not dried or under cook. Another favorite of mine is the chocolate flourless cake! It's the best I ever had!! I wish it comes in a bigger portion. I'm still thinking about it. I'm only here for 4 days but I'm already planning another trip there to eat! A great place to have on St. Croix! All dishes I have had here have been great. Especially worth mentioning are the curry dishes as well as the duck. Our service was not so great. I guess an older lady was our waitress but she had to constantly being helped by her co workers and even one of the owners came by and helped out.
