We had dinner here every single night of our trip, that should tell you everything. The owners are warm, gracious, and made us feel like family from day one. When we mentioned we were heading to St. John's, they happily packed dinner for us to take along. And when I came down with something one evening, Sally went out of her way to make me a fresh lime juice with mint to help me feel better. That kind of care is rare. The food was consistently excellent, and they've struck a great balance authentic Indian flavors that both Indians and non-Indians will enjoy. I especially loved their Chana curry (Chole) and Dal Makhanni. A quick note on the prices: we saw a few reviews complaining, but when we tried cooking one of our own meals during the trip, we realized just how expensive groceries are on the island. My team and I used to visit Thali regularly, but this summer the prices have all spiked. Its a newish menu, but its now all 'a la carte'. The entrees no longer come with rice and naan, and we were surprised to be charged for these separately. The price of the entrees for the portions you get are now pretty steep. The food is still delicious, but I'd be lying if I said the prices didn't deter me. read more

The food is amazing! We ordered about 3-4 items each for the 3 of us and every item was delicious! They were closed for Carnival but were taking to go orders. Definitely top on our list of places we ate at and we will eat more meals here on our next trip instead of all the overpriced and overhyped 'fancy' places. It could be a hit or miss. The first day we ordered the Bang Bang Gobi and Chana Masala with naan. Chole was good, Gobi was different from what we've tried but still pretty tasty, with a hot and sweetish sauce. Naan was pretty dry and felt stale, and entrees didnt come with rice. We went back the second day and got the Paneer Tikka masala. That dish was terrible. Spices in the gravy tasted raw and undercooked and paneer wasn't soft either. As a vegetarian, I had so many options. I tried the bang bang cauliflower, coconut tofu curry, vegetable curry, and chickpea curry, and all of them were amazing. I even ordered another order of the bang bang cauliflower. My family that aren't vegetarian loved their food as well, meat options are super good too! During my visit to St Thomas, I was looking for some food other than Burgers and Pizza. I stumbled across Thali Indian Grill using Google. Upon entering, my husband and I were welcomed to choose our own seating. The owner was patient as we couldn't decide what to eat because I wanted to try Everything! While we looked over the menu, we were told we could pick out our own drinks, making us feel like Family. After ordering, the Owner provided us with Great Conversation and Recommendations for things to do during our stay. The Food, Service, and Atmosphere were so Wonderful that we returned everyday during our week long visit. Oh and as a Treat, we were Serenaded by the Sounds of Live Steel drums being played during 2 of our meals. S/N, reading some of the reviews, I can see the Misery in people. As brown skinned people, me nor my husband were not treated any differently than any of the many different race and colors of customers visiting the establishment. We meant and conversated with many different people, while dining at the restaurant (locals and travelers). The owner literally treated us All like Family. As far as the comments about the food...If you don't want to try something different, Don't Go. If you don't want to be treated like Family, Don't Go. I have visited Many Indian restaurants and each one does Curry Chicken and Roti different. I had the Blackened Naan and it was Delicious with my Spinach and Coconut Milk. First time trying this restaurant on our trip to St Thomas. Decided to have something different during our stay instead of the many options we already tried at the hotel. The restaurant was empty around 4 pm on a Friday evening. A man yelled out from a small window, told us to grab menus and sit down. About 5-8 mins later a man came strolling into the restaurant on his phone. He continued with his conversation while we waited. Finally he walked over and said "what do you want to order?" No hello or welcome to the restaurant. We put in our order of the chicken biryani, butter chicken, wings and bang bang chicken. We also asked about the bottled juices in the fridge. The biryani was a very bad version of chicken biryani. It was full of frozen vegetables and hardly any chicken. The flavor did not taste like any biryani that I have tasted. Do not recommend. The butter chicken tasted like the bottled version you can buy at a store and warm up. Again, nothing authentic about it like the biryani. The bang bang chicken and wings had the same flavor and nothing at all impressive. Something that did surprise me is the price of the "fresh juice"which was in plastic bottles in the fridge. The restaurant did not freshly squeeze it but marketed and charged $10/ bottle for this "fresh juice". Also even though the service is nonexistent a 20% tip is automatically added to your bill. I do not recommend this place, it's not worth the experience and the quality of the food is not worth trying. read more

Pls remember you're on an island and this is the lone Indian restaurant on it. It's also in a shopping center and in a kiosk, you can't be expecting Michelin 3 star decor, services, or cooking. Overall the food was great and totally home made. The nan isn't typical Indian nan because there is no clay oven in that kiosk, but it was made in the same spirit and good enough for dipping into curries. The shindi mutton was excellent and definitely a family recipe. The vegan and vegetarian options were abundant and tasty. Service was very friendly, kind, and helpful. Me and my girlfriend went our first night here in St. Thomas. I must say it was the absolute best idea I could've came up with because this place was such a delightful experience through and through. From the delicious food and drinks, to the fantastic ambiance, all the way to the wonderful service we received from the lady at the bar. She went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing time while there. Worst customer service, worst food, it was no where close to Indian food, very Les's portions as compared to charges, she added 20% gratuity without telling and I was putting cash in her box she looked and never said a word. She said she need 15 minutes to prepare food when we went back she said she needed 20 more minutes. Overall worst food experience on the island. read more

ZEROOOOOOO STARS!!!! THIS PLACE WILL NEVER GET MY MONEY. I placed an order via the clover app at 11:40 am and when I came to pick it up with my significant other at 12:30 PM we were told that they did not even received my order. Then the staff told me that I will have to wait another 20 minutes for the food. Seeing that we are on a time-constricted schedule, I told the young lady I would like my money back and she told me " no" and " boss man not here" I then proceeded to tell her that we basically placed an order a hour prior and can't wait for the food. We even argued to the point where she even got in my face. People have recommended me to this place numerous of times and the one time I finally want to experience it, this is the nonsense that's happening. Don't ever waste your money coming to this place!
