Staff here can come off very rude. Sometimes I feel like they are irritated and yelling when they speak to you. Its very frustrating. I don't think its that hard to be kind. I've never had a worse experience at an eye doctor's office in 34 years of exams. I'm convinced their positive Google reviews are largely self-generated. I was charged $80 extra for a contact lens fitting when I asked to forego ordering lenses through them and receive my prescription directly. A fitting is when the doctor helps you try on your lenses. When I contested the charge, the office claimed that measuring my eyes for lenses was a fitting. No, that's an exam, that's why it's covered by insurance. When I had called the office earlier for an estimate, they said that if I didn't need a fitting of lenses ordered through them, then I would only pay exams. So, fraud. Most eye docs see that my pupils are large and go light on the dilation drops. Here, they don't observe or care. Even with sunglasses, vision was too fuzzy to work on a screen or outside for a couple hours after--and I needed to work--and driving home an hour later was sketchy. Customer service was lacking from almost everybody. The eye doctor didn't seem to care. Most of the time was with techs who didn't provide explanations. The office had noted my birth date wrong, so I was in their system wrong, and no one told me I should bring my prescription. It would have been cheaper to go with my regular doc, even WITHOUT insurance, and I would have more confidence that my prescription was 100% accurate. read more

Wow! After making my fourth appointment with Siskiyou Eye Center in Yreka, I decided to give up. In my first three appointments, they failed to address my original concern, each time telling me they would take care of it on my next visit. The staff is friendly, but my feeling is this business does not exist to serve its patients, but rather to generate cash. 1 star is too much!! This practice charged me almost 400.00 for an eye exam, which is exorbitant considering I got a prescription for my eyes that had me straining to see all year. Even more disappointing is getting a bill for 250.00 15 MONTHS after my apt!! I had never received a bill prior and was never notified there was an outstanding balance!! I have called twice now to ask what this is about and the billing dept phone is never answered and my messages have not been returned!! No problem getting an appointment in a decent amount of time. Office staff have always been pleasant. Doctor was young and efficient, took plenty of time with me and answered all my questions. I've never had a bad experience there, so it is interesting to read some of the other reviews. So far, so good. I appreciate their service. read more

My doctor was very rude. I had a 4:00pm appointment and the doctor finally saw me at 4:45. I was the last person there, and while the doctor was checking my eyes he was also talking to the staff to clean and close everything up. He left multiple times without explaining anything, and I never got my glasses prescription. I had to call and ask for it again (I asked before I left the clinic, and they said they will mail to me). By the time I was done, everything was dark and locked. only the doctor and two other staff members were there. It was uncomfortable and weird. I wouldn't this place. read more

I've been bringing my Dad here for his Glaucoma check-ups for 2 years now, the staff is always very friendly and professional and today they went above and beyond. While waiting for my Dad to have his eyes dilated and for his check-up, I remembered that my prescription sun glasses have been bugging because they are too loose. I asked one of the ladies if she could take a look at them all the while figuring she was going to say no because I'm not a patient and didn't get my glasses here. Instead, she fixed them right up for me and cleaned them too. To say I'm very appreciative is an understatement, I'm leaving for Maui in 2 days and was really worried that my glasses were going to drive me crazy because they were so loose. I visited the clinic a year ago for an eye exam to get contacts. I heard the staff very rude and standoffish but that was far from my experience! They all treated me with respect and were very helpful in informing me of what my insurance would cover. The lady assisting a customer find glasses was especially professional and personable. I made sure to compliment her prior to leaving. I wish I remembered her name! Im leaving a review because i visited this page looking to see if they are actively open during the pandemic! Boo....hissss....avoid this dreaded place like the plague. The staff turnover is off the charts which directly reflects the Integrity of the business. Everytime I have been in there the staff are as cold as ice and I can't wait to get out. Dr. Horn is the better option by far if you are in Yreka. Save your money - go someplace else. Unless you like to wait in the waiting room and treatment room for an hour and a half before the "doctor" shows up. This was not an isolated incident - it happened once to me and twice to my wife. It's like they intentionally book each room with three patients for every opening. It's a total mill. When I moved here from the Bay area, Siskiyous Eye Center was recommended to me and my husband. I have seen Dr. Welder several times due to a significant eye issue. He and his techs have been responsive and professional. They know their eye care! Dr. Welder is responsible for getting me to a retinal specialist when I had to have surgery that he did not perform. On February 14, 2011 during my six month check up I was told that I needed cataract surgery. This was not a surprise as I had been having difficulty seeing just doing ordinary tasks. Dr Ewing explained that I could elect to have a lens implant which would restore much of my vision. As I had worn glasses much of my life this sounded wonderful. On February 28th Dr. Ewing performed the surgery using the restore lens. My family was able to watch the procedure on closed circuit . My sight improved almost immediately. The staff at Ashland surgery center was very professional and provided excellent care during the process. Dr. Ewing's staff in the Yreka office is to be complemented for their excellent, caring professionalism. I still need to use reading glasses for close work. That I can deal with. My family has been using Siskiyou Eye Center for years and love the Doctors there, however, they have problems behind the desk with customer service. I tried to leave a private note about this online with their website (which has "testimonials") but there are only phone numbers and those are exactly the folks I don't want to complain to. Recently, my wife called asking for help coordinating with VSP-type program to ease expensive costs, and was told to do it herself. We're going elsewhere in town. read more

greetings, ive been seeing dr. cowly since I was very young, any way he is retired, so I go in and see a different dr., I later go and retreave my records, and there is nothing on there that I said at all except that I was a diabetic. I called back because im very worried about what is going on with my eyes. no one at the office is even talked with me about anything, I was told that if I need or want glasses id have to see a different dr. cause my insurance doesn't cover glasses, why am I even at that office if that is the truth.
