The doctors are great--I have absolutely no complaints about them. My issue is with the billing department and front office staff. I was effectively dismissed from the practice because of a $45 copay that went unpaid for more than 90 days. When I called to schedule an appointment with my eye doctor, the front desk told me that my account had been sent to collections and that they could not--or would not--schedule me. I was told I was no longer allowed to be seen by the practice. For context, I had been a cash-pay patient for more than 10 years because I did not have health insurance. During that time, I paid thousands of dollars out of pocket for treatment of uveitis, an ongoing eye condition that is causing vision loss in my right eye. When I finally obtained insurance and used it for the first time, no one informed me that I had a $45 copay. The bill went unpaid for over 90 days, and apparently that was enough to have me sent to collections and dismissed as a patient. I contacted the billing department to resolve the issue. They could not tell me which collection agency had the debt, and they would not accept my $45 payment directly. Frustrated, I left $45 cash at the front desk and left. Two months later, while still experiencing a significant flare-up of my condition, I called again to schedule an appointment. I was told I still owed money, that my account had been sent to collections, and that I had been dismissed from the practice. There was no record of the $45 cash payment I had left. I can't help but wonder whether my doctor is aware that a long-time patient with a serious eye condition was turned away over a delinquent $45 copay, that was paid. read more

While I have had good experiences at this location, today was another story. Check in was fine, initial eye tests were fine, then they stick you in a room for 40+ minutes with no communication or checking in on the patient. Nope, the staff just puts you in a room, shuts the door and that's it. Good luck with your wait time. I went out to check to see if they forgot about me after almost 45 mins or what the excessive delay was and I was told that I need to be respectful. I did not raise my voice or swear. I just inquired about the delay and that this is uncomfortable and frustrating. Don't make it my issue that you cannot treat your patients in a timely manner. I will say their Manager Daniel was a pleasant surprise. He listened, was empathetic and stated that someone should be communicating when there are excessive wait times. I was recommended to this eye center by my eye doctor in Grants Pass After going there for over a year for complications from dry eye they recommended I go to OHSU. Long story short I then ended up being enrolled in a test trial at UCLA for stem cell deficiency where I qualified for surgery. Weeks before my procedure in need of a simple scan I called Medford office and they refused to do a simple test for me stating I was "dismissed" because I went elsewhere for care They sent me elsewhere and I wasn't asking for treatment or diagnosis just a TEST! My doctors office from UCLA even called and they said no. My point being is if you are ever referred to another office like OHSU four hours away, make sure you know whether they are going to "dismiss" you where you can't get a simple test done from them. read more

My wife went in for her annual eye exam and was told by the receptionist that the appointment was for a medical exam with a $70 co-pay. We state we just wanted her usual annual eye exam that had a $10 co-pay. The receptionist okayed that and we paid the $10. But the the doctor said he didn't do regular eye exams and gave her a medical exam (She wasn't told the difference between the two.) Then he said he would schedule her next year for another exam and new glasses frames--that she doesn't need. Now we expect a bill for $60 that we will have to go through the trouble to contest. Beware of the high pressure sales at this place. read more

Ah yes, nothing like a simple request to really inconvenience some over-it employees. I called requesting a printout of my glasses prescription, something I purchased there a few years ago. Discovered I was reaching the phone center. Surprisingly lovely. Polite, helpful, even offered to mail it, but I needed it now, so they told me I could just walk into the main Eye Center on Barnett and Highland and pick it up. Apparently, walking in and expecting basic customer service is a personal offense to the front desk staff. The first person greeted me with the classic eye roll and sighing. She pointed me to the person literally right next to her, who looked equally thrilled to be alive and promptly sent me somewhere else--optometry. Walked up and asked her for a printout and they instructed me to sit down and somebody would be out to assist me. For a printout. Not a surgery consult. Not a full eye exam. A printout. After a few minutes, I just walked out. Why? Because I was there a little over a week ago, scoping out what they had, and the person who "helped" me back then looked like they'd rather be undergoing a root canal than assist a paying customer. This time around, I wasn't about to stick around for Round Two of the Eye Roll. Life's too short for bad service and barely concealed contempt. If you're reading this and still considering going--do yourself a favor and head to Artisan Eyeworks in Ashland instead. Yeah, it might cost a little more, but at least they'll pretend to give a damn. And sometimes, that's all we need. A little fake enthusiasm, just enough to trick us into thinking customer service isn't dead. Pro tip: if your staff treats every customer like they're interrupting a nap, you might want to take a look at morale, or the paychecks. Just saying. read more

I have been going here for years. It's the best quality eye exams I have had. I also recently got Lens Replacement Surgery (similar to cataract surgery. Dr Welling went above and beyond and though because I am in my fifties it didn't correct my far-sightedness, it did make everything else perfect! No more astigmatism. He also was very kind! I recommend them if you want a really good prescription for glasses or contacts and definitely for the lens replacement surgery. They are a little spendy and very busy but I've always had a great experience. read more

Medical Eye Center appears to be assembly line medicine to me. They give you an enormous amount of medication to dilate your eyes. In my case it typically took six hours for my eyes to return to normal. This is far too much. They don't provide context for what they are telling you to do. In my experience the doctors are too busy to talk to you about your situation and answer your questions. For example, they may tell you that you need to get checked for glaucoma but they don't tell you why they think that and they do not answer any questions about what the symptoms are of glaucoma so that you can be educated. I have very long waiting times typically an hour to an hour and a half before you could see the doctor. Your visit with the doctor last only minutes because they have to rush to the next patient. I have noticed on my Medicare billings that their prices seem to be higher than my other ophthalmologist. They may be getting rich from practicing medicine this way but it won't be because I work with them ever again. There must be a better way to get eye care. The one good thing that I will say about Medical Eye Center is that Dr. Matt Oliva did an excellent job with my cataract surgery on both eyes. I have problematic eyes and he had to do something that was outside the norm. With that I am very impressed. I am not impressed with anything else. read more

Many of the staff have attitudes. Ordered glasses that took almost a month longer than agreed. They billed insurance for over $1000 bucks for a pair of glasses. Got the highest quality lenses available with scratch protection and they scratch very easy. Will try somewhere else. read more

I've been going here for 9 years, seen 2 different Drs. Both Dr. Sarah Babeck and Dr. Patel. Dr. Sarah Babeck is my Optometrist who checks my eyes and prescribes my glasses. Dr. Patel takes care of my other issues. Both of those Drs are caring, thorough, helpful, open and honest. I have gotten clearcut directions from both of them, and my eyes have been well taken care of. After my disastrous excursion with Group Eyecare on Barnette, (look for my Yelp Review and Run don't walk away from them), I went to Medical Eye Center, got my prescription for my new glasses, and they were only $400. (as opposed to $1000 from Group Eyecare),and the Medical Eye Center checked my insurance before I looked at the glasses and all was well! Had a small problem with my glasses a week later, they were sent away, and fixed! I've been wearing them now a month, NO PROBLEMS. Fabulous service from everyone that works there, from the Doctors right on down to the people at the front desk! I really recommend this place. read more

The eye exam was dragged out . . . literally sat in the chair for long periods while people came in and out. The exam itself did not give me any confidence in the woman who did it. The prescription glasses I got made me feel dizzy and while wearing them and while in Costco about one month later they actually fell off my face and onto the ground. Fortunately the Costco eye dept fixed them for me saying I needed to take them back. I also had them put lens in a pair of my sunglasses - they took my sunglasses, said they checked and all was good. A couple of weeks later I called for an update and was told they could not put sunglass lens in my frame and that I needed to buy different frames. I did have some issues with their billing department that got on my last good nerve, and some of the people who work in billing are not as polite as they should be considering they work in customer care. However, the staff who actually work in the eye center itself are sincerely friendly and make each visit there less onerous than your typical doctors visit. They even made a note in my chart of the phonetic pronunciation of my name. I didn't realize how nice it would be to have my name pronounced correctly until everyone was saying it the right way. It's a small thing, but it says a lot about how they view patient interactions. I also love the philanthropic work they do, partially because it takes a certain type of person to want to work at a place that gives back. Are they perfect? No. Nobody is. Would I recommend them? Definitely yes. Though I do have to note that they are expensive for routine eye exams. The glasses I bought there are the most expensive pair I have every bought in my 40+ years of wearing glasses, but they also fit the best and it was worth the extra money to work with opticians who actually know what they're doing. read more

Several reasons. For starters, they never answered their phone or returned my call, I had to actually drive there to see if my glasses were ready. They were NOT which was very annoying. Since it was the second time they had to be prepared, the measurements were off the first time. For what I had to pay for these glasses, this service was absolutely unacceptable! read more

The cost is higher than most Eye Centers that I have been to before, however they are very nice and courteous. It seems they have made new procedures that are not covered by insurance which made my out of pocket around 300.00 it hard when you're on a fixed income. read more

I got LASIK about six months ago at the Medical Eye Center. Its been great up till around December that my eyes begun to feel lots of pressure. During the LASIK process I was told that if I have any concerns about my sight I could come in for free post visits for a year (which for the price of LASIK made it seem great). I went down, was told I have dry eyes and I'd need treatment with artificial tears. Ended up getting billed for the visit despite never having dry eyes prior to LASIK. When I called customer service, I was told that I'd have to pay for the bill because I was given an exam. The only thing covered by the free visits has nothing to do with exams or treatments for the side effects to LASIK! read more

The staff at Medical Eye Center is the absolute best. I have had multiple procedures over the p six years and the quality of care I have received is top notch. Most recently Dr. Lemley performed a procedure for my retinal tear. He understood my concerns and took time to address them. Twice during post surgery recovery he called me at home to check on me. I would recommend Medical Eye Center to anyone and specifically Dr. Lemley for any procedure involving the retina. read more

My experience from the day before, day of and day after my lasik surgery was excellent. The facility is very clean and well organized. A particular opthalmic technician (not sure if this is her job title) named Allyson thouroughly explained everything every eye exam she performed to me the day prior of my procedure. She was very professional and friendly. Thank you allyson. Dr. John Welling was my surgeon. He explained the whole process of the lasik surgery because I was a little nervous. During the surgery, he was very vocal about what will happen next step by step. He has a great sense of humor and was still very professional. Thank you Dr. Welling for fixing my eye sight. You are a number. So many patient's. Long waits. Inexperienced, high turnover staff. First MD never remembered me from one visit to the next-for years, gave poor explanations. Switched MDs much better, excellent, but surgery was a very negative experience. Had anesthesia problems and no one returned my calls for a week. Was marginalized, dismissed and ignored. Horrible experience. So typical of todays HC Medicine $$$$$. There are many other options in the valle. read more

I had an appointment today that I had to wait a month for. Made all the arrangements to get there from out of town and checked in 10 minutes early. Sat in the waiting room for 1hr & 15 minutes. We went to ask how much longer and OOPS they said they forgot to check me in. So missed work, out $10 for gas plus wasted my time and the time of the person that drove me. Horrible experience! I was there for nearly 2 hours, moving around from room to room for an eye exam. Yea the place looks like it's high tech, but the staff aren't. I got stuck with someone in training, who had me read a chart, in room #1) and his approach made me feel very uncomfortable. The prescription I received from the doctor was clearly wrong, so I returned to have my old prescription renewed. They have no consideration for your time, they keep you waiting, yet rush through their exam. read more

Start with the good. The doctors staff are an amazing group of people, very kind, caring and helpful. The bad. The doctors are self aggrandizing with videos of themselves in Africa giving free eye care to the poor in that country. You can't get away from the videos, they are everywhere! The Ugly. They will charge more for services than any other office I've been to including offices in California and Idaho. The prices are sky high and most of the patients are on fixed incomes. I would love to videos of them working on poor Americans for free but that is not going to happen. They will leave a senior without good vision before giving a break on pricing. This is wrong on so many levels. I will pass on this place in the future and go to California stay in a nice hotel, eat out and still spend less than seeing anyone here. read more

This place is a joke!!! I went there hoping for a professional eye Dr that would help me and be professional and I was wrong!! The communication is horrible and the billing is even worse. Also they treat their patients so rudely!! DO NOT GO HEAR UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED POORLY. To make matters worse is their CEO teach classes on how to be professional. I think they need to go back and teach their employees. I had cataracts and astigmatisms in both eyes, couldn't see with glasses or without. Referred by nurse anesthetist, Cheryl Marquart, I went to Medical Eye Clinic - 1333 Barnett Rd, Medford, Oregon. Met Dr Jorizzo for first time. Amazing place. Amazing Doctor, Amazing staff. I am humbled and so very grateful. Highly recommend this place to everyone. Dr Jorizzo and all staff are exceptional. These doctors and staff also travel to third world countries to help the poorest of the poor - the hearts and compassion are beyond measure. Staff is like family - so good, kind and welcoming. Very busy eye center so appointments can be a ways out, but top notch medical staff. Customer service is always excellent, facilities are beautiful and clean. I have used them for contacts, and glasses as well as surgery. They fit my contracts perfectly after failure at other doctors to get the prescription correct. Highly recommended. I'm 37 and I've had awful vision my entire life. I've been wearing glasses since about 6, and contact lenses since 8 when the glasses wouldn't fit under the catchers mask for baseball. I've been thinking about LASIK for a number of years for some reason never got serious about having the procedure done. I'm a avid back country rifle and archery hunter and during elk and deer season, I often spend long hours behind spotting scopes or binoculars. My eyes would get dry with contacts and glasses weren't an option due to the distance between my eye and the eyecup on the optics. I had to carry a pair of glasses in case I lost a contact in the back county and always worried about some vision issue while being miles from civilization. A friend mentioned LASIK about a year ago and I started doing research. I called the Medical Eye Center and spoke with Denise. Super friendly, very informative and patient as I asked all kinds of questions. We scheduled the surgery for December 18th and started the protocol of no glasses, visits to my local eye doctor and dilation. The entire experience at Medical Eye Center was fantastic. The efficiency of the pre-op appointment on the 17th to the surgery on the 18th and the post-op on the 19th was great. A truly amazing experience to lay on the table with vision of 20/400 and about 10 minutes later, sit up and be able to read signs in the laser room. My post-op exam the next day revealed my vision was beginning to settle on 20/15. I have no idea why I waited so long. If your considering having LASIK performed, don't go anywhere else. read more

This review is solely focused on the optical department within the Eye Center, offering their selection of glasses for purchase. I tried to locate a separate business entity for them specifically, to write a review specific to them, but couldn't find one. It appears that they are a part of the larger Eye Center Group. Now that that is out of the way.....The Pros first. Very nice facility, very nice check in, and a nice optical tech who seemed knowledgeable. My only dissatisfaction with them came from what appears to be extremely inflated prices. I say "appears to be", because I suppose that there's a chance that they are carrying an uber-luxury version of Oakley and Ray Ban Sunglasses that no one else in the Rogue Valley carries. So I'll give them that benefit of a doubt. But short of that, assuming that's not the case, their prices are absolutely ridiculously high. Example....I had a pair of Oakley frames quoted out, fitted with prescription lenses. To make it the most cost effective, the Optical tech recommended using "in house" made lenses, as opposed to Oakley proprietary lenses. He explained that with industry standards being so prevalent, the quality is very similar. I said sure. The quote came in at over $620. I asked, "Ray Bans" in the same price point....he said yes. I left. Do a Google search. I did after leaving their store. Oakley's own web-site has them in the $130 to $150 range. Costco has Oakley's for $99. As for the lenses....most "in house" lenses are between $140 to $170. You add that up, and it's a far cry from the huge price point that was quoted. In conclusion, I went to America's Best Contact and Lenses on Biddle. They had a huge selection of Ray Ban and Nike Sunglasses. Also had Oakley glass frames, that could be outfitted with Tinted lenses. I ended up with a sweet pair of Ray Ban Sunglasses with Coppertone Polarized prescription tinted lenses installed, for $319. I don't mind spending money....but I don't like over-spending money. read more
