Freshness has been the biggest issue. On my most recent visit, my beloved apple fritter was so stale it was virtually inedible, and it's not the first time the donuts here have tasted like they'd been sitting around far too long. Fresh donuts should be the bare minimum at a donut shop. Service has been equally ho-hum; slow, indifferent, and not particularly welcoming. The atmosphere follows suit, with messy tables, sticky floors, and a dining area that has felt neglected on multiple visits. It's just not an inviting place to sit down with a coffee and donut. What makes it frustrating is knowing how good Country Donuts can be. The Crystal Lake location consistently delivers fresh donuts, good coffee, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Elgin lately has felt like the polar opposite. I'd love to see this location turn things around, but after several disappointing visits, I can't chalk it up to an off day anymore.
