Inexpensive, quality donuts. Amazing service and cute shop! Everyone loved these donuts.

Unfortunately, my last few visits to the Elgin Country Donuts have been pretty disappointing, especially compared with the consistently great experiences I've had at their Crystal Lake location. Freshness has been the biggest issue. On my most recent visit, my beloved apple fritter was so stale it was virtually inedible, and it's not the first time the donuts here have tasted like they'd been sitting around far too long. Fresh donuts should be the bare minimum at a donut shop. Service has been equally ho-hum; slow, indifferent, and not particularly welcoming. The atmosphere follows suit, with messy tables, sticky floors, and a dining area that has felt neglected on multiple visits. It's just not an inviting place to sit down with a coffee and donut. What makes it frustrating is knowing how good Country Donuts can be. The Crystal Lake location consistently delivers fresh donuts, good coffee, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Elgin lately has felt like the polar opposite. I'd love to see this location turn things around, but after several disappointing visits, I can't chalk it up to an off day anymore. read more

Solidly good donuts in Elgin. An institution. I highly recommend the strawberry frosted (so sweet) and the double chocolate (cakey and rich). Quick service. Very affordable prices. I will be back for more donuts and to try out the breakfast service. read more

The dozen doesn't fill the box like the country donuts in Crystal Lake does. This is the small version of country donuts Crystal Lake. Totally different owner so he must be a really small owner because he makes really small donuts. I noticed the baker is really small. So maybe that's why. They don't taste great either. They taste like three days old. I keep trying it because they're close, but I think this was the last time for real. The people there are pretty rude too. Stopped by this donut shop after eating at a nearby restuarant. They also have a drive thru but I enjoy going inside donut shops to see. It is a cute place that looks like an old school diner. It is popular, we waited our turn to purchase donuts. I got an old fashioned and a apple cinnamon one. They are decently priced and I enjoyed the texture of the donuts. The workers were helpful and moved as quickly as they could to keep the line and drive thru moving. read more

All day long I just wanted a good fried donut but the universe seemed to be conspiring to keep any and all delectable doughs out of my reach. My plans to stop by 4 different spots were thwarted again and again by early Sunday closing times and even a permanent closure. I had just about resigned myself to sadly going to Dunkin' after pulling up to my last option, a pricey but good specialty Korean donut shop in St. Charles, only to find that they were already sold out for the day. I'd come so far. I had to try at least one more search. And that's when a beacon of red hope lit up on my Yelp map screen. "Country Donuts." Just a 15 minute drive away in Elgin. It was not only well-reviewed but supposedly open 24 hours! It sounded too good to be true. Could it really be or was it just some kind of mirage caused by donut deprivation? I had been burned too many times this day so I called ahead to double-check they were in fact a real establishment and was overjoyed when a lovely voice assured me that they were in fact open 24 hours and had plenty of donuts still available past 5pm on a Sunday. I made the drive over and there was my saving grace tucked away at the end of an unassuming strip mall. I noted a family savoring their order in the truck parked next to me as I pulled in and grew excited. Walking in I was surprised to find a he place had the welcome feel of a cozy diner. And then there just past the register was a generously stocked wall of various donuts glowing in the soft light. Initially was going to just grab 2 or 3 but decided on a whim to go with the dozen when I remembered that I had a family cookout to stop by later. They seemed to be a hit. I cut them into halves so that people could sample more than one and every donut I tasted was great. Looking back I should have just ordered another 12 given that it was only $14! I had several people asking me where I had procured this delicious dozen. The vanilla long john, powdered Bavarian and apple cider flavors were standouts to me. I am so happy to have discovered Country Donuts but also a little scared that I may find myself very soon making many a long drive to satisfy my donut needs. read more

The place was busy on a Saturday morning, but they had plenty of workers behind the counters taking orders. Not only did they have donuts, they also had muffins- (blueberry, chocolate chip, and I believe banana nut) and breakfast sandwiches. I was super excited the other day when our office ordered Country Donuts for coffee and donuts day. I love it when they spend a little more (over Dunkin) and get the good stuff. The donuts are always a hit. They taste fresh, have lots of frosting and sprinkles, and are plenty big. I'm not much of a coffee drinker but others enjoyed the coffee. Best doughnuts around all the suburbs better than Stan doughnuts and Dunkin and many other doughnuts shops. The sugar and honey dip doughnuts are my favorite and I haven't been lucky these past couple times they have been out. They are fresh and very delicious and the cost for a dozen is not bad compared to any other place. The service is always great here and it's clean inside. When I entered Elgin's " Country Donuts ( on a Sunday at 6:30 a.m. ), " I noticed that their doughnuts and muffins were actually glistening with oil or grease. Their doughnut sizes were reduced to the mini doughnuts size sold in grocery stores. Shockingly, the site charged a whopping $ 8.40 for 6 doughnuts. Yet, through no one's fault but my own, armed with all these bad signs, I still purchased 6 doughnuts. I took a bite of the first doughnut and tossed this nauseatingly oil filled, stale tasting mass aside. They're much better than store bought donuts for sure. But They don't have much of a selection compared to other places I go to. They don't have any pecan donuts whenever I go or danishes. I do like their breakfast sandwiches more. Their sausage and chorizo croissant sandwiches smell just as good as they taste! I like that they wrap the sandwiches in foil. I was intrigued by the reviews of this place. Came by for some late night donuts through the drive thru. I was shocked by the rude service, as I asked a question regarding what donuts were available. The lady responded with nothing less than a harsh grunt and a stern voice as I could discern she did not want anything to do with my question even though it was my first time! Once I ordered the lady commanded that I pull up to the window. As I drove up, I was greeted with an unhappy look on her face for whatever reason. Maybe it was because it was 1:30am? Tried country donuts for the first time. It reminded me a lot of Dunkin but the donuts are not stale. They actually stay quite fresh. They have a wide variety to pick from. My husband got the Apple fritter - it was large and he was not pleased to share. I got a classic chocolate donut. My parents got the coconut and a strawberry filled donut. Everyone found something that they enjoyed and the prices are reasonable. They also offer coffee and breakfast options. I will be sure to visit whenever I'm in town! read more

The donuts at Country Donuts are tasty. They are open 24 hours so the likelihood of getting a donut that is quite fresh is good. Their vanilla cream and toasted coconut are two of my favorites - light dough and flavorful. The vanilla cream is creamy and not too sweet. The toasted coconut is crunchy and yummy. Enjoy the variety if you stop by. Pro tip: Don't skip the other menu items. They rotate the soups and I like their broccoli cheese when they have it. read more

Wow! A real donut shop! I didn't know these even existed anymore. So many choices, made on site, out of this world taste and SO FRESH! Truly melt in your mouth. A lot of folks were ordering sandwiches while we were there and they have signs saying their chili is the best - going to be hard to try those with the deliciousness of their donuts.
