After I asked about it, the bartender mentioned it wasn't a traditional au poivre and came back with some coarse black pepper after asking to sprinkled on top. For clarity, au poivre literally means "with pepper" -- the classic French preparation features a steak crusted in cracked peppercorns, seared, and finished with a brown Cognac-and-peppercorn reduction made from the pan drippings. Nowhere should a simple Alfredo-style cream sauce be called "au poivre." For the upcharge, I was expecting authenticity and depth of flavor, not a misrepresentation. The service was friendly and the atmosphere pleasant, but my first visit also had issues -- my wife actually found a piece of plastic from a salad bag in her salad. Mistakes happen, but after two visits, it's hard to overlook the lack of attention to detail.

There was little attentiveness to our table throughout the meal, and it took an unusually long time just to receive the bill at the end.
