Another local coffee shop that I had on my list to try. I ordered their maple latte (hot and with almond milk) and grabbed DANK banana bread loaf. Prices were pretty average for the area. My total was $11 something. The latte was $5 and the loaf was $6. I enjoyed my maple latte. I have never had a maple flavored latte until today. I asked the baristas if it was already sweet or needed any sugar? They told me that it's pretty sweet by itself. No need for any more sugar. They were correct. But it wasn't so sweet where it was unappetizing. It was just right. For me, I got more of a tangy feel in my mouth rather than sweet... like when you eat syrup on its own; not on a pancake or waffle (if this makes sense). The espresso mixed in just right. No burnt taste. So I appreciated the well-made latte that I received today. The DANK loaf was heavy in that I couldn't finish it all in one sitting. It was great! A plus for me is that it is vegan. The DANK brand is a vegan one. It was a great addition to my maple latte. The cafe has plenty of space for people to sit and even hang around for a conversation or to do work. Sit & Wonder is located right on Washington ave near the Brooklyn museum. The coffee shop felt very homey once I entered and was instantly greeted. I ordered a small coffee (wish it was a bit hotter, especially since it was such a cold day) and found a spot to do some work inside. There were lots of plugs and I liked that the seats are high to the countertop. There's beautiful art all throughout the cafe including the bathroom. It's a cruel joke to promise a muffaletta to a girl missing NOLA, only to turn around and serve a VEGAN VERSION that's SO GOOD that it's making me sit in this cafe and question my life choices. Clearly I've done something right if life brought me on the path to stumble upon this little gem. And it was only $8. At first I questioned if I should take it home and add meat to it. But NAY! No indoor seating as of now but they have a small covered outdoor backyard with 2-3 small tables and a larger table in the middle, so I snagged a smaller one with two friends. The folks working behind the counter were friendly and chill, making the experience a pretty relaxed affair (as coffeeshop lounging should be). Pretty standard menu featuring your usual espresso drinks + some specialty lattes including the maple and almond latte. And bonus: they make their own almond milk! They have a few breakfast sandwiches and fresh baked pastries on their menu (muffins, croissants, pain au chocolate, etc). I tried the chocolate croissant and it was tasty & fresh. This was the second time I've been to Sit & Wonder, and just like my first time, my experience was great! I first stumbled on this coffee shop on my way back from a dentist appointment. There isn't a ton of indoor seating, but I've never had too much of an issue finding a seat. The staff is friendly and quick to make orders. When I came in with friends they noticed us starting to sit down and asked if we wanted our drinks in mugs instead of paper cups - which was so nice of them! Came here with two friends and my nephew. This place is nice, with an amicable barista who was serving alone on the weekend. They run out of baked goods pretty quickly, but did have small snacks. They claim they do have gluten free and vegan bakery items on a regular basis. Had an iced coffee with almond milk, which was probably the best iced coffee I've ever had. Per the barista, they make their own almond milk which is crafted to compliment Stumptown Hair Bender which they use to make their cold brew. The cafe has a backyard where some people were sitting, enjoying coffee and on computers. Could be a nice WFH or study space. The people out there today seemed irritated that my friends and I were speaking to each other. There are no "quiet please" signs or capacity limits due to COVID for the outdoor space, but the other customers were definitely giving the stink eye. I first tried Stumptown Coffee when I was in Seattle and was pretty impressed. It seems, however, that although I heard rumour about two years ago that this or that coffee shop carried Stumptown, it wasn't that easy to find, though I could be wrong. Then, I move out of New York and came back to find that it's been distributed fairly well to coffee shops and even restaurants. You'd think it's not so special anymore, but screw that! Them folks know how to roast a bean. That said, even when you start with the right beans, you're not necessarily going to have a cup of the same quality as you will find at a Stumptown coffee house. I'm happy to report that at Sit and Wonder, you do! The baristas prepare each cup with care and the result is a perfectly smooth latté. I normally don't order lattés, but when trying a place for the first time, I find that it's a good test and less of a risk than my usual Americano. Besides the coffee, Sit & Wonder has the perfect environment to...you guessed it...sit & wonder, or sip & wonder, or sit & sip, or sip & read or sip & be on your laptop (plenty of outlets, too). I adore this small light-filled cafe with outstanding, inexpensive coffee. It's a great place to read and work, though perhaps not comfortably so for a lengthy period of time. However, I find the design of the space puzzling. The table against the wall and near the bar is tight, as it is barely long enough to fit an average-sized laptop. Some additional seating along the bar is right in front of the bathroom, which faces the seating in the back, and thus results in an unwanted parade of users coming and going for the customers trying to work in the back. A particularly garrulous barista, whose loud, high-pitched prattling, along with the similarly sonorous, eclectic music, was hard to tune out and thus detracted from the experience. Outdoor seating is available behind the cafe. A limited selection of pastries, some of which, including the scones, are made in-house, is available. I like that self-serve water is provided. Wanted to get their homemade blueberry scone, but they didn't have any available yet. Instead, settled on the Cheddar Chive Scone ($3ish) and a Large Maple Latte ($4ish). Scone is okay, dulled flavor in such a big pastry (should have opted to add butter/jam). Maple latte has big maple-ish taste and provided a moderate kick. My go-to spot when I want quality coffee on the run. One day I may actually "sit and wonder" there, but the tables are usually all taken when I go there anyway. I like the chill vibe, stumptown coffee, and the blood orange donuts from Dough that they sometimes have.
