We come to sit, talk, share stories, our personal experiences and of course sip a fabulous beverage. I'm seeing this more and more as I visit fabulous coffee places.. Konditori, Villager, Bakeri, Hidden Grounds, and now Velvette Brew. First, the space: light, airy and I can imagine with their big windows, a sun soaked place on a sunny day. There are plenty of seats: tables and high top tables. Their menu offers a bit of everything from soup, sandwiches, quiche and pastries. There is a nice option of beverages hot/cold. Today, was a bit damp so I ordered a hot chai with bite size checkerboard cookies to dip. The barista was very pleasant and I found a seat while waiting for my chai. I see a lot of patrons working in laptops, some meeting up to talk and sip and even the barista chatted with a local patron. Love it! My chai was piping hot and absolutely delicious. The chai was frothy, rich, the black tea leaves infused with cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, sweetener, and milk. I savored every sip and complimented the barista. It is always great to find a new coffee place. I expect to be a loyal local at Velvette Brew. They also host music events and have a collaboration with Cry Baby Ice Cream. It is located in the heart of Park Slope. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Velvette Brew 279 5th Avenue B63 to 3rd and 5th or R to Union Street, 10 minute walk.

Of note, the bathroom door does not lock but did not notice any accidental intrusions during the few hours I was there. I ordered a strawberry cheesecake danish, a macaroon and a latte. All reasonably priced for the area I think. Service was fine, nothing exceptional. My order came out correct and tasted as expected. The Farm Fresh Battenkill Whipped Cream? Delectable, fluffy, and has ruined all other whipped cream for me. I can't explain how much better it was with the whipped cream. It was sweet, buttery, and rich; unlike most other whipped creams I've had. My only con (and this is somewhat beyond their control) was it did get quite chaotic with people's pets and kids' strollers that were taking up the sidewalk making it hard for others to pass or to peacefully continue our conversation. There are a handful of little tables and bar stools, it can get a bit crowded and isn't ideal for large groups, but if you go at the right time (maybe a rainy Sunday afternoon) to get some work done or catch up with a friend, you'll likely be able to find a spot. I would come back for a coffee but tried the breakfast bun, solid yet a little pricey. It was tasty--egg was nicely runny, spicy mayo was a good call, avocado was a tad underripe. It's inspiring me to get brioche rolls and pickled onions and make the darn thing at home, then come back to Aura to enjoy the lovely atmosphere with a specialty brew. My friend and I got the maple latte and a chai latte. I ordered the chai (10oz) for $4.50, but was charged $5. I confirmed with the staff that the board menu lists $5 for a 16oz -- so I expected the larger size, but got the smaller one without it being made clear. Prices are reasonable otherwise, but the size labeling was misleading. The chai was a bit watery, but the maple latte was solid! Still a good, convenient stop for a caffeine fix when you're in the area.
