We have been so thrilled with our experiences at Sit Means Sit in Firestone. We have attended about 8 puppy playtimes, 10 group classes and the 5 day board and train with additional boarding days. We have a mini Goldendoodle named Bo - our first small dog. When we started, he was a puppy through and through (roughly 14 weeks old). He loved puppy play time and it was a great way for socialization with other dogs of all sizes/breeds (he was only 8lbs) and other humans (young and old). The trainers are on site, answering and asking questions. While there, we saw a difference in the behavior of the puppies that were in the classes/training program. Owners seemed much more in control than we felt, and we started asking questions and everyone affirmed the programs and facility. We made the decision to put Bo in the 5 night stay and train program. It's expensive - would it be worth it? We had to discuss it greatly but decided we had, hopefully 10-12+ years with Bo, and having him well trained would allow a much more peaceful co-existence, help us to feel comfortable with him around other people/dogs, and we were excited to receive the tools to tap into all that he was capable of achieving. While he was at "sleep-away camp" as we called it, we received daily updates through "report card" and pics. When we picked him up, we basically received an entirely different dog. We said that first night "it feels like our baby grew up in a week!". Don't get me wrong, he's still a fun playful puppy, but we now have the tools, in equipment and training, to guide him to appropriate behavior, keep him from unsafe situations and watch as his intellect connects and he does really smart things! (To note - he was not potty trained when we dropped him off. We've only have had 1 accident in the month since we picked him up!) Trainers Carolyn and Sandy are wonderful and love on our Bo whenever he is around - continuing to help us refine the skills he (and we) are learning. He gets so excited when we pull into the parking lot and he sees his human and dog friends waiting for class or play time. We have attended as many group classes as we can (6 mo included in the stay and train program). It's a wonderful group (15-25 dogs) of various breeds and training levels. It's so encouraging to see where we are heading with consistent time and training by watching the interaction of other dogs and owners. I have heard some wonder about, or critique, the training collars used. They are not "shock" collars - the signal sent feels like a tens unit vibration - designed not to hurt the dog but to get their attention. If you have a puppy - don't hesitate to start training early! We are so glad we did. Was it expensive? Yes. Has it been worth it? Most definitely! Highly recommend! read more

Training excellent. Boarding questionable. Thus the reason for 3 stars In January we left our 6 month old puppy for a week of training and continued with follow up in group classes for the next 6 months. all went well. During the past 6 months we boarded her approximately 4 times. During the last boarding we were told she was injured chasing a ball. We were informed 5 days after the incident occurred and told that she bit the inside of her cheek when going for the ball and began to bleed profusely. The groomer took our girl to the vet where she had stitches put in and put on meds. We throw the ball to our girl 100 times a day. Upon check up the vet said injury was definitely not caused by chasing a ball. It was most likely a dog bite as there was a puncture just below her left eye As well as stitches in her gums. We asked to see video of what happened and were informed that there were no videos available. We are profoundly disappointed in the lack of communication regarding our pets injury. We placed trust in this business and feel as though they fell short read more

EDIT: I created a review on their FB page and it was immediately deleted. Instead of addressing the issue they chose to delete. The state investigation is still pending along with the civil suit. Be warned fur parents! Please pet owners think twice before sending your babies here! My good friend sent her extremely healthy bulldog to their faculty, made certain they understood bulldogs cannot be in extreme heat. Why they even had to reiterate this at an animal boarding facility is still beyond me. Guess what, while my friend and her family were on vacation they got horrific news that their boy Bud passed! Nothing but excuses, hidden video, and lies have come from the franchise owner. The police state the only thing that can be done is compensation for the price they paid for Bud. Money is not going to fix this! They have yet receive a heart felt apology, alas nothing but excuses as to why they don't know what happen. They waited over 20 minutes before taking Bud to a vet. Neglect happens at this facility with zero accountability. Folks like this are not about the animals more so about the dollars... greed will be there demise read more

Sandy, Christie, and the rest of her team are great. Our dogs definitely needed some training to be more inclusive in the family. Problem behavior such as barking (at people, dogs, the air), not listening, and not being able to walk on a leash we're becoming a real issue. Especially since we live in an HOA community. We picked the Bachelor's Degree Program and they have since completed it. There is good progress shown in behavior and listening skills. We will see how it goes as we learn to train the dogs and the dogs learn to listen to us. I feel we are off to a good start though. read more

Without Sit Means Sit one of my dogs would be completely out of control. He has leash aggression and weighs 90 lbs. He is a Rottweiler which for some people is an automatic watch out sign. With Sit Means Sit I have learned how to handle him in a way other dogs (and at times people) and Mickey (Rottie) are safe. and he is able to be the family dog and protector we got him to be. At SMS I have learned how to have a true relationship with my dog and give them options that allow for a more enjoyable setting in our home for those who absolutely love dogs and those who do not. SMS is our dogs second home. We trust them completely to lovely care for our fur babies when we are out-of-town. When we have been out-of-town (as their busyness allows) we receive photos and videos. Sandy (the owner) along with all other staff have given amazing patience, kindness and awesome advice to me for the past 5 years. We brought our 2 puppies to Sit Means Sit completely overwhelmed and terrified we wouldn't be able to raise 2 puppies at the same time (which was a bad idea, but we were committed.) After their initial boarding training and few days at home with us they are COMPLETELY different puppers. I trained my White German Shepherd with a local dog academy and a big-box petstore trainer for over a year. I followed the programs, attended the classes and trained with my dog regularly at home. I was still not seeing measurable results and had a dog that was routinely jumping up, nipping and generally doing whatever he wanted. Training was becoming more frustrating than rewarding, and the behavioral problems with the dog were a significant issue. I was not eager to join another school when I had already paid for lifetime group lessons and additional one-on-one training with the academy and the pet store, but the problems with the dog were too significant for me to just stick with the same failed approach to training. I found SMS by searching the internet for the best dog trainers in Denver and went in for a consultation. They did an evaluation and a training session, and the results were profound. I was able to control the jumping and biting after one session and within a couple of weeks I had a dog that would stay for an extended period of time and respond to a number of other commands. I had been working with the other trainers on this for over a year, and had seen no improvement at all. One of the things I like most about SMS is that they put a lot of effort into the group lessons. The focus is not about getting your dog to a certain benchmark and then asking for more money or sending you off to train on your own. One of their group classes is geared towards advanced training and I have been amazed at what I have been able to teach my dog is those sessions. The agility training, obstacle courses and advanced dog handling techniques have been great for building confidence in my dog and strengthening our bond. One of the other schools I had attended offered advanced training for additional per-lesson fees, but this has all been included with SMS training. I started my training with the SMS in Westminster and then transferred to the Longmont/Firestone location when I moved to Northern Colorado. Sit Means Sit was the best thing I could have done for my dog. For years I have been unable to enjoy my dog, especially when my dog took me for a walk when I wanted to spend quality time with him. As a result, he stayed in the house or backyard, never leaving because he would not take any directions as the world revolved around him. Several friends and family members took their dogs to this training with amazing results. I thought I would give it a try as I did want to enjoy my dog and up to this point in his young life, there was not a lot of enjoyment going on. After two weeks of training - WOW!! My dog is in a great place now, fun to be around and I can take my dog for a walk now and lead him instead of he leading me!! I take my dog out at least once a day and as I am getting my exercise and enjoyment, my dog is getting the same, right by my side, not wanting to stray off even when a rabbit runs by!! This has been the most worthwhile investment I have made since obtaining my Weimaraner four years ago. After two weeks of being home since the training concluded, my dog is now walking with me off-leash (something I never envisioned). The staff was absolutely amazing and Carolyn is the best!! Came to Sit Means Sit after a horrible experience with another local trainer. I'm not sure what I expected - just wanted to be able to manage my extra strong, extra excitable, extra nutty Shepherd/Pit rescue. Started with the 2 week board and train, then onto private sessions since my dog wasn't ready for group classes. After much patience, the folks at Sit Means Sit have gotten Finn and I to a point where we can join one of the group classes. I am thoroughly overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness and caring both Finn and I have been shown. Everyone has been wonderful and have helped me as much as my dog. I'm looking forward to a long relationship of continued training for my nutty boy. Exactly one year ago we brought home Bear a 4 month old black lab who although was crate trained and mostly house broken was poorly socialized. After 2 weeks we considered returning him to the breeder. Instead we decided to give Sit Means Sit one last shot at training Bear. The transformation was amazing. Mind you this was our third lab so we weren't rookie's. He was always very friendly but out of control. Now a year later he is so well behaved we can't believe it. Sandy Brady is what you would call a professional's professional. From the minute you enter her facility, it's obvious to see that you are working with the best. The facility is the nicest I have ever seen.. clean, state of the art training tools, and tons of room for your dog(s) to learn/play. Having just moved to Boulder, Sandy took the time to answer all my questions, evaluate my dog, and give me pointers to be a better handler. Although my German Shepherd has had extensive training in the past, Sandy's understanding of dogs is truly second to none. You will learn something new at every lesson and Sandy will personally help you if you need extra attention. While the people who work here are very nice and patient with the animals, my dog just did not take well to their training technique of shocking the dog every time you give a command. There really wasn't any direction on 'how' to train besides just constantly shock them and say the word. I took my dog to daycare at a different facility and he has flourished and is so well behaved without ever using a shock collar. I called and tried to get some of my money back from Sit Means Sit since I have a year-long program I paid for, but they said that the paperwork I signed in the beginning says no refunds of any kind once training begins. This is a good policy for the company, but how are owners supposed to know if the training works without trying it first. Also, their pricing is extremely high for the packages they offer, but with so many good reviews I had thought it would be money well spent - I was very wrong. read more
