The employees here clearly love dogs. No matter who the employee is, when we go to drop our dog off they get really excited to see our dog. He, in turn, gets excited to see them. We love that Best Friends Fur Ever will take care of grooming needs while we are away. If possible, they will trim nails, bathe them and express their anal glands. As someone who has worked here and QUIT:…read more Employees were expected to handle large numbers of dogs under extremely stressful conditions, and I witnessed dogs being roughly handled and verbally mistreated. Dogs were called names (bitches) and spoken to in ways that I found completely unacceptable for a business whose entire reputation is supposed to revolve around caring for animals. When I was first hired, the staff did not give me the required safety and training video. From my experience, there was no apparent urgency to make sure I actually received or completed the training before being put to work. It came across to me as pure, unadulterated laziness and negligence. The treatment of employees was just as disturbing. We were not allowed to sit down, even during long periods of physically exhausting work. I eventually passed out on the concrete floor in the large-dog section. When I fell, my eyeglasses went into my face so hard that they left a visible indentation and caused bleeding. One of the moments that really shocked me was when I specifically asked what I was supposed to do if dogs got into a fight. I expected a clear answer or established safety procedure, especially in a workplace responsible for supervising groups of dogs. Instead, the response I received was essentially, "Shit, I don't know." That was extremely concerning to me. When you're responsible for multiple dogs in an environment where fights can happen, employees should know exactly what protocol to follow before an emergency occurs. Being met with "I don't know" when asking a basic safety question made me question how prepared the staff actually were to handle a serious incident. The incident was visible on camera, and a coworker's mother witnessed what happened through the camera footage. Despite the seriousness of what happened, I received no meaningful assistance. Instead, when I regained consciousness and attempted to get out of the pen on my own, the dogs got out. Rather than checking whether I was injured or making sure I was okay after literally passing out and hitting my face, the focus was on the dogs having "escaped." I was then told to take a ten-minute "break." The entire response made me feel as though they believed I was exaggerating or faking what had happened rather than dealing with an actual medical incident. The owner's retarded son was present during the incident and, in my experience, did nothing to assist me. There were also serious concerns about the way people were treated. I personally experienced and witnessed behavior that I considered racially insensitive and discriminatory, and I found the owner's conduct toward certain people deeply bigoted and unacceptable. These are not the values I would expect from a workplace or a business serving the public. I would strongly encourage anyone considering employment here or dropping off your animals, to ask detailed questions about employee and pet safety, breaks, incident procedures, and how both employees and animals are treated when nobody is watching. Additionally, Neil (if currently employed at this location) is in desperate need of some proper oral hygiene. Perhaps a trip to the orthodontist, or the use of this Listerine (the strongest I could find) that I've attached below. No one should have to deal with that torture in the workplace.

I was given a business card for East Coast Academy of Dog Training. The best recommendation ever. Initially, Paige was unmanageable on a leash. Her fear and anxiety caused her to be hyper reactive to wildlife, sounds, sudden movements. She would not respond to commands and she pulled me wherever she wanted to go. The first time Rob walked into my house, the whole energy changed. Rob has the most wonderful voice. He is soft-spoken. He never raises his voice. He has endless patience. Paige loved him from the first moment. For the first several visits, we worked inside on basic behaviors - come, sit, wait, etc. Paige caught on pretty quickly. So did I! It was as much about me learning as it was Paige. Rob always leaves detailed notes covering the lessons of the day. And consistent practice between visits is paramount. Then we began working on leash training for walks. Rob has given me valuable tools to make walks a positive experience for both Paige and I. We are still a work in progress and, weather permitting, I make a point of walking every day. Paige is so much happier and so much calmer. After 5 visits, I kept telling Rob that I needed more training. In his wonderful, calm way, he said that I didn't need more. The Boyz are spoiled and I have no shame in stating this...*smile*. But they needed to learn manners. I have two large and very strong Standard Poodles - Mr. Brown and Max. They're extremely smart, pretty obedient in the house, but a huge challenge on walks...my poor dog walker. I wanted to be able to take them anywhere without the extended conversations of sit, stay, what are you doing? you know better... etc. At any rate, I'd been following OLK9 Maryland for some time online. I knew that training for two dogs was going to be a budget buster. Thankfully, I was able to take advantage of the "Black Friday" or "Cyber Monday" (can't remember which one it was). I cannot say enough about the great experience I had...the Boyz were happy to see Craig each day which was a HUGE relief for me. I wasted over $1,000 to unknowingly abuse my dog through Off Leash K9. I sought help because my dog…read morewas reactive toward other dogs, loud vehicles, and people. I was desperate to help my dog and myself and Off Leash K9 had good reviews. What these folks didn't tell me was that my dog's reactivity, what I thought was outright aggression, was actually fear - that she was scared of all of these things and trying to protect herself from them. So with the use of the e-collar (really just a shock collar let's be honest), I punished her every time she showed a fear response at Off Leash K-9's direction. This definitely changed her behavior, but rather than helping her feel more comfortable with the things that scared her, we instead punished her for being afraid and taught her to hide her fear responses. I wish I had looked at the science behind dog behavior, because I now know research shows that punishment through things like e-collars, buzz collars, spray bottles, etc. are incredibly counterproductive to changing dog behavior long term and they seriously traumatize the dog. I'm so very grateful to have met a Fear Free trainer who taught me about positive reinforcement. It has improved my relationship with my dog immensely and it has ultimately lead to the sustained behavior change I was looking for. Please do not waste your money on abusive, ignorant training through Off Leash K9.
