This place is amazing! Our dog went in knowing very little commands and had terrible leash anxiety but after his training, he is doing so much better. We enrolled our dog Piko in the immersive training program, and have been coming to twice-weekly sessions for upkeep since then. We were so lucky to have Josh as a trainer to work with our mischevous pup. He's enthusiastic and knows dogs really well, and his guidance is much appreciated. We did the immersion program with added behavioral. They did learn a lot , but still have behavioral problems a bit. It's a lot of work on our end as well. I was hoping after spending the kind of money I did that they would have been a lot better. When I take them in for follow up classes they act up like they were before. I wanted to take just a minute to share a review of the great team at Sit Means Sit of San Antonio. Our dog, JD, a 3.5 yr old male German Shepherd and myself, have been working with Kendall and Josh at the Broadway location since early September. The development and improvement that JD has achieved since Sept '24 has absolutely amazed us. He started out with both Dog and People Aggression and has pretty much left all of that behind him now after attending weekly classes and learning to work thru those things. Enrolling Jake at SMS was one of the best decisions I've made for him so far! I found SMS on Google/Yelp and stopped by the Broadway facility on a whim. After asking a few questions, Austin wanted to meet Jake and welcomed us in. Although Jake is very obedient he really struggled with meeting people and other dogs. Austin was very transparent, genuine, and encouraging and reassured us that SMS could help build Jake's confidence. He encouraged us to start muzzle conditioning and four weeks later we dropped him off for his first day camp. Taz took the time to introduce herself to Jake and quickly gained his trust. I was amazed and left with my heart at ease. Next we met Josh who has an undeniable passion for dog training. His cool calm approach and ability to lead and control Jake was really impressive and again we left feeling more and more hopeful. Later we met Caitlyn who really helped teach me how to communicate with Jake, keep him engaged, and gave me a better understanding how to juggle the leash and e-collar remote. Next we met Kendall who continued to help us work on Jake's impulse control, going through doors, and leash pulling. She also helped teach Jake how to get himself into my Jeep without me lifting him. On each of these days Robert showed up bright and early to happily receive Jake, check on our progress, and make note of any issues we were having that we'd like the trainers to focus on that day. Jake was always so happy to go with Robert that he stopped looking back for me when I'd leave. Clearly Jake's confidence grew with each visit. Brittney who had heard of a highly reactive dog enrolling met Jake one day and couldn't believe he was the dog that she heard about. She said "Jake... from State Farm? This Jake? No way!" This amazing staff continues to impress me with their training techniques, patience for dogs/people, and compassion for all dogs without judgement. They've really taken great care of my boy. In group classes the team has been very intentional to keep everyone safe, comfortable, and having fun! Even if Jake struggles with a new task or gets too talkative in class I consider it all a huge WIN because just two months ago I could not imagine Jake being in the same room with strangers and dogs and yet he's doing amazing! Hershey is a rescue we got three months ago. He is a big lover boy but was not well-trained. We tried to train him on our own but realized we needed help from some professionals. He is strong and could almost pull us to the ground when he saw another dog or a vehicle. After doing quite a bit of research we chose Sit Means Sit. We were very reluctant to train using an e-collar but after meeting with Lisa and understanding it is not used for punishment we were more comfortable. We have a large 100 lb+ black mouth cur named Maui. He had fear aggression where we tried to board him he wouldn't let anyone touch him and at the vet he has to be sedated. In 2021, i thought that my people/dog aggressive blue heeler was unfixable and possessed the potential fate of being put down. It is now Jan 3, 2023 and I am truly so happy with SMS. My consultation was late December 2021 with Austin at the Broadway location. I explained to him my concerns and goals and he was very enthusiastic about Bojack's potential with the program. Austin had me test the e-collar for my own reassurance as an owner. (test was on fatty area of the palm). I never had doubts about using this sort of training tool, especially with a dog like Bojack which I knew needed something more than just a "good boy! here's a pat on the head". Bojack did the 6 day course where he attended a daycare-like setting at the Broadway facility 3 days for 2 weeks. (He was muzzled for each class which I fully supported). After every class, I would get a lesson on what Bojack learned such as how to use the e-collar and the basic commands that follow with it, (heel, place, sit, down, stay, come). Bojack already knew these commands from a previous program he did but I was mostly looking forward to the years' worth of group classes that are included in the price. (these group classes were the absolute selling point for me. I was very dedicated to Bojack's progress). Bo's first group class was Jan 27, 2022. It has been almost an entire year and I truly can't believe the progress he has made with SMS. In these past 12 months, Bo has truly mastered most of the commands and exercises that we do during group class. Bojack has now been accepted into the brand new Advanced II class that will consist of weekly field trips for higher-skilled exercises and a more challenging environment. This is all credited towards the amazing trainers he has seen throughout the year: Patricia and Mike throughout the year, Zach for the last half of the year and Isaac for these past couple weeks. (also a big thank you to all the trainees/newer employees that help run the facility). I am not going to lie, Bojack still has reactivity issues, but I have accepted and so should you, (if you are a severely reactive dog owner), that these behaviors will likely not go away due to many unique reasons. BUT, what you CAN do is learn how to be proactive. Proactivity and consistency is the key for owning dogs like these. You can't expect to drop a couple grand on SMS, not attend any group classes and then expect a cured dog. Those group classes are absolutely vital to you and your dog's training abilities. Being consistent is so important, I can't stress that enough. With the dedication I put into Bo and SMS for the past 12 months, I can now take Bo to any crowded place and feel confident in his ability to execute an excellent heel walk while walking by distractions amongst other commands. Almost a year ago now, I got my corgi-beagle mix, Julep. While I love her dearly, she is so stubborn and has no will to listen. This gave me a lot of anxiety, especially in off leash situations. Last August, I came to Sit Means Sit to ease my anxiety, and it's worked! Julep and I did a couple of private lessons. I worked with Mike and Erin a few times, and they were really great to work with! They understand how confusing it can be, both for the dog and myself, so they take their time and seek to explain things in different ways. If something didn't work or wasn't clicking, there was always a different way to approach it. After our private lessons, we went to group classes. We haven't been to as many as I want to due to my work schedule, but every time we go, I feel that Julep gets better, especially around distractions. The trainers really look to help with whatever you're having problems with at home, which is great! I haven't met a trainer I didn't feel helped me and my dog. I was nervous coming in that I wouldn't be able to afford this. However, they offered a payment plan that was manageable for me, a college student on a budget. I fostered Kazi from ACS back in July, although he is very sweet, but because he was a street dog, he wasn't easy to walk (he pulls me), he wasn't easy around other dogs and very destructive. I never had a pet before so I don't have the experience to make him adoptable. So I decided to look for a training place to train him and teach me. Sit means Sit (SMS) had the highest review on Yelp and of course, nothing but the best for Kazi. After the initial call, the lady asked me few times if I'm ok with the fee since it is higher than most other places and Kazi is a foster, I do appreciate that concerns though. I had 5 private sessions with Krystal (I'm hoping to attend the group sessions soon), and she KNOWS her stuff. I learned a lot from her. Kazi went from peeing on the floor and whining around Devin (Krystal's dog) on our first meeting a month ago, to be able to run with Kazi in the park last week, that was a HUGE improvement. Now, of course, don't expect SMS to have the magic stick and make your dog behave overnight, it takes a lot of work and Kazi still have a lot of work to do, as am I. We have two pooches. Our nearly 2-year-old Dalmatian "Oliver" is a loving affectionate bully. Strong willed and single minded. Loves to play. Our other is a 3-year-old lab mix "Raymond": anxious, skittish, easily aroused. Both love to play and bark. Before Sit Means Sit, we had tried Gentle Leader leashes, facial leashes, and a couple of books. None worked for more than a week or two. The results from SMS were obvious and rather quick. Within days, we had dogs that were happy but more compliant, obedient, and cooperative. Krystal and Karis initially recommended a two-week board-and-train with Oliver. However, my wife stuck with the curriculum and one week later he had improved significantly. We are now six weeks into the curriculum and can walk our dogs in the neighborhood or local parks with slack in the leash, wagging tails, and them paying little attention to little kids or other dogs. Please note that this is quite expensive and not a small undertaking. My wife is a homemaker and has dedicated the better part of her life to training our dogs since starting SMS. Your results will not be as good if you only train them for one or two hours per day. It is labor intensive. But in the end, it's like having kids. You get out what you put in. We have a hound dog that's a huge puller (to the point where my husband can only walk him) and extremely vocal when he sees other dogs. That behavior was tolerable when we had a house with a yard but since moving to Texas we live in an apartment and it needed to change. After reading reviews on yelp we decided to try this program but we were very skeptical. Starting from day 1 we saw a HUGE change for the better. We have been so grateful for sit means sit ever since. We can now walk Barry on a leash, he listens to us and waits for our command. And he's only been in training for a month! Karis and Leslie were wonderful - they were both patient, knowledgeable, and committed, and my standard poodle (who had some separation anxiety and self-confidence issues) took to them almost immediately. They not only helped me to understand where my pup's occasional behavioral problems came from, they gave me actionable strategies to overcome the problems. They didn't train my dog; they trained me, and enabled me to work with my dog. I have a progressive, incurable neurological disease, and Karis and Leslie took that fact into account without allowing it to be the focal point of our interaction.
