I am not one to write a bad review--it honestly doesn't feel good--but I felt called to share this experience so future customers can have some potentially valuable input. I came in to get glasses. I was uncertain if I even wanted to try contacts. Yet, in my initial eye exam, unbeknownst to me, I was given a contact exam, which I was charged for. This was not covered by my insurance. I ended up placing a contact order after encouragement from the doctor. It was mailed out to me, as I had moved out of state. I put the contacts in and thought I had switched the eyes, as my left and right eyes had different prescriptions. I discovered that the wrong prescription for my left eye had been sent. Instead of immediately remedying this, I had to mail the order back and then wait for a new order to be shipped. In the meantime, I decided to pay for a Costco membership so I could get glasses for the prescription the doctor had given me. I had asked the receptionist to double-check with the doctor that my order was correct, as I was nervous after receiving the wrong contacts. She emailed me the prescription. I was about to place an order for glasses and drop a pretty penny. The very nice woman working at Costco noticed I put glasses on when she was asking me to look at something. She asked me if my glasses were readers, which they were. She was confused and said the prescription I gave her was only for distance. When she informed me of this, I was equally confused. I need glasses to read. Had she not said something, I would have paid for glasses that could not be refunded--and still not had the glasses I need. So now I have paid for a Costco membership, I've used up the one vision test allotted by my insurance, paid for a contact exam and contacts--and still have no contacts or glasses in hand. My frustration level and confusion at how both orders were wrong was boiling over. Site for Sore Eyes could have done quite a few things to make this right. They could have rushed a reorder of contacts for me. They could have offered to cover a new eye exam, as I certainly don't trust that the "new" prescription I received via email is correct. How could I? I understand that mistakes happen. But this just feels negligent. I hope others have a better experience, but this was mine. read more

The owner here is such a nice person. He really took the time to listen to me about my concerns and showed how he cares to have a welcoming environment at the store. Originally I had my first appointment canceled at the Tracy location, but he made amends for the issue and I'm extremely happy with how he handled things. The employees were also very nice and accommodating, especially Nancy! The optometrist filling in was very helpful and really good at her job. Went to have my eyes examined by an optometrist who visits the location on selected days. I needed the prescription for a pair of Rudy Project glasses not sold by this business. My insurance paid for my eye exam. When trying to use my prescription outside of the business, I noticed the pupil distance was not on the prescription. The owner asked if I was buying glasses there. I explained I was not and then I was informed the pupil distance numbers would cost me an another $25. Ridiculous business practice. Just go to Costco and get your prescription and get your glasses. I had a great experience with Site for Sore Eyes! They were extremely responsive and helpful every time I called. Rahil helped me schedule my appointment both visits and she was so patient finding an appointment that worked with my crazy schedule. She was very personable. When I went into the office for my appointments, she gave me many tips and recommendations for contact brands and purchasing. I really appreciated that because I am new to contacts and could use all the help I could get! The doctor was very knowledgeable and quick. He allowed me to compare two contacts and choose the one I preferred which was very helpful. I ended up going with the Acuvue Oasys instead of the Bausch and Lomb Ultra. I have gone to Site for Sore Eyes in San Ramon for quite a few years, back to when that location was called Sterling Optical. It may have been a different ownership then. No problem with the eye exams themselves (that's why two stars instead of just one) but their pricing and prescription expiration dates have been a bit shady (no pun intended). I called recently to make an appointment for an eye exam and prescriptions, and to my surprise was told that there would be one charge for the prescription only. If there was an examination for glaucoma, macular degeneration, or cataracts that would be an additional charge. In the past, both the prescriptions as well as an exam for any eye problems like the above would all be covered by one price. No other Site for Sore Eyes shop that I know of has two separate charges. I talked to two people at the San Ramon location and was told that is their current policy. Good thing I checked on this before going there. Now I won't be going there. I happened to look at previous prescriptions they wrote, back in 2018. Two different prescriptions were only good for one year. They are usually supposed to be for two years. A one year expiration means you have to get your prescription filled quicker, or do an additional exam at least a year earlier. I also looked at a previous estimate they had given me for lenses. Their price included charges for polycarbonate, anti-reflection, scratch resistance and ultraviolet protection. I checked with a different Site for Sore Eyes shops and was told that if I got polycarbonate lenses, I wouldn't need additional scratch resistance and ultraviolet protection. IT was already built into the polycarbonate. I verified this from more than one source. So the San Ramon shop was going to charge for two additional items that wern't necessary. I have noticed in other reviews that there were similar complaints of price manipulation and misrepresentations. Building a good reputation for honesty helps to generate customer confidence and return business. The San Ramon location is sorely lacking in this area. One thing is for sure, I'll be going somewhere else for future eye exams. read more

My glasses had broken and I stopped in to see if by chance they could fix them for me. Unfortunately, where the break was they couldn't fix it. The two lovely ladies at the front then proceeded to help me find frames to fit my lenses within the budget I had told them. They were so kind and patient with me until I decided on the perfect pair! After having the MOST horrible experience here in 2018, I keep getting calls every year, one in 2019, 2020, and AGAIN TODAY to schedule an appointment. Every year, I'm still getting calls even though I asked them to NOT contact me ever again and remove me from their list because I will not be coming back here. If the manager is reading this, please stop harassing me. Initial review: This office has the worst customer service and has staff members that do not care about patients. After trying on 3 sets of trials for my contacts, Dr. Carcamo finally finalized my prescription on 4/24/18 (First all, I never saw this doctor during any of my previous appointments, so it was strange that I am suddenly seeing a new doctor, but I just wanted to be done with this place). The moment I got home, I noticed the prescription the doctor finalized was DIFFERENT than the recent trials that I wore. I called the office the next day and one of the staff members stated that the finalized prescription was a combination of all trials. If this was the case, how come I was not informed of this at my final appointment? The doctor clearly stated that it was based on my last trial set, not a combination. Then the staff member proceeds to tell me that the doctor actually prescribed TWO contact prescriptions for me. I was very confused since the 10+ years I have worn contacts have never resulted in this. I asked the staff member to explain this to me and she stated "Doctors can prescribe two prescriptions allowing the patient to have a preference to choose which one they want. Pick the one that feels better to you." Are you f***ing kidding me? What complete BS. I have never heard of this before and when I called the office again to explain to them that I am uncomfortable in choosing which prescription is better for me (I never went to optometry school) and that I don't know what actually feels better since both prescriptions are the same brand, the staff member quickly stated the first prescription. She did not check with the doctor and clearly wanted to rush me off the phone. It was completely unprofessional. After several days, I called back demanding to speak with a manager. I wanted to speak with Chris since based on the yelp reviews, it seemed like he was the business owner. I got transferred two times and was sent to talk to a person named Diana, the doctor's assistant. I explained the situation to her, and she would not listen to me. She kept saying that there was only one prescription and would not let me finish explaining my situation. I told her the power of both prescriptions and she finally said "Oh I see it now." No apologies after yelling at me and no apologies about how sorry she was. She was by the far the WORST person I have ever dealt with and she should not work in the healthcare field. She continues to yell at me, not attempting to solve the situation and not admitting that she was wrong the first time. She then HANGS UP ON ME. At this point, I am beyond furious and appalled by the unprofessionalism of this office. She was rude and unprofessional. I called back and asked the doctor to call me. I finally received a call last Friday and he explains to me that there are no such thing as having two prescriptions... I explained to him that I was prescribed two prescriptions and that his staff kept telling me to pick between the two. He told me that the correct one was the prescription he gave me during my last appointment, which wasn't even the correct prescription that staff member told me when I called the first time. Unfortunately, it was time to look for another OD to update my prescription glasses. I decided to check out the San Ramon Site for Sore Eyes. Nancy answered all my questions and explained the various lens options. She seemed very knowledgeable, so I decided to make an appointment. The next day, Dr. Caracamo completed the exam and explained that my vision had changed significantly from the glasses I was wearing. He expressed concern that the proper prescription might be too uncomfortable and made a suggestion which I agreed to try. When I received the glasses that Nancy helped pick out, they were perfect! He answered all my questions. After my appointment, the staff gave me a copy of my prescription even though I didn't ask for one. We're all glasses wearers in my family so it's important for us to find the right lens shop. We've been going to a big name store in the mall but their service has been going downhill so I decided to try Site for Sore Eyes since they're so conveniently located. My husband had such a positive first experience with them a few months ago that I decided to take our son there when he needed new lenses. Had an eye exam here and a contact lens fitting. Everything looked good, and I got my eyeglasses prescription. However, when asked for the contact lens prescription, the incompetent staff kept giving me the wrong prescription. On the first occasion, they mailed it to me, but it was the regular eye prescription. Second occasion - I was ordering contact lens and called the office to have them fax the prescription to the vendor. Office staff refused, despite verifying all my information. Third occasion - stopped by the actual store and waited 1 hour to get a prescription. Apparently, the staff cannot print it out while the doctor is out of the office for lunch. Unlike other providers that I have seen, my prescription was written for one year as well. Save yourself the hassle. There are plenty of other places to get an eye check-up with better service. read more

I would give this place a minus review if I could. First off, Chris is the most shady guy I have ever met. I went in to replace my lens. Just my lens. He took the order and filled the order. he asked for my insurance details and called them and verified the info. He told me he was in my network and did the paperwork. I picked up my glasses and said thank you and left. A month or so later I checked with my insurance and it turns out that he put in a claim for contacts which is a higher $ value. I called and asked what this was, he sheepishly said "wasn't it contact" oops sorry let me fix this. So I checked with my insurance a few weeks later and he made the change but now he claimed lens and frame. So I called and asked what was going and he said that it was frame and lens and I told him it was just lens. He told me I could come in and pick out a frame. I don't need or want a frame. I asked him to cancel the transaction and that I would return the lens. He told me he would give me store credit!!!! I called my insurance and told them that this was fraud and that I did not get frames. They called him and asked and after a few calls (the balls on this guy to deny that it was frame and lens) only to retract later to say..."ohhh yeah it was just lenses". WHAT!!!! I spoke to them and they told me that they would cancel the transaction and that this would be null and void. This was a month ago. Checked with insurance and they still haven't received the refund check. I'll let my insurance work this out but I can't get new lenses until this is resolved. On top of that..... I found out that he was OUT OF NETWORK!!! I didn't see the optometrist so this is strictly wrt the store owner - Chris and his shenanigans. read more

LAME! Don't use the Groupon. Not worth it and it's misleading. Tonight I went there to use my groupon for $150 frame, get one free. sounds like a good deal. Not the case. Well it is, if you want to select from 25 ugly frames for $100 and get $50 of the lense. Super misleading. Plus, The ladies that work there never greeted us, barely made eye contact and had poor communication skills. I felt like I was talking to a school girl in third grade who looks down on the ground while telling you a story. Made me realize going to my real eye doctor was worth every penny. read more
