I hesitated for a moment because there were a few bad reviews about the check in process. All of these turned out to be nonsense! I had a phenomenal experience here. The room felt like a private apartment and was immaculately clean and well taken care of by my room attendant Sabrina. I especially enjoyed a full size deep soaking tub and the constant hot water and supplies. Bed was comfortable and room temperature controlled, and I had the first night of decent sleep in the last month. I must say I was disappointed in the Japanese restaurant on the roof, which is trendy does not have very comfortable seating in spite of a real attempt. We moved up to the roof because the man restaurant who's entirely too noisy to have any conversation at all.And is much cooler during a very hot week. They have an amazing braised beef/ miso soup, but I much preferred the sushi on the same street at another Japanese restaurant. This hotel is located in one of the most prime areas in Manhattan with the Jazz Mall drectly across the street, which has something for everyone from H&M to Hugo Boss, one of the best Whole Foods I have ever been in. Easy access to buses, trains and connection to Amtrak and airports as needed. I hope so hard to point out the staff in this hotel.For excellent and highly attentive and knowledgeable. Nothing really notable about the staff, they checked me in and that's about it. Not that I'm expecting over the top hospitality in NYC but it was lackluster. It's extremely dark when you get in so it takes a second for your eyes to adjust. Room was in the smaller side and the AC unit was extremely loud. Like then up the volume on your alarm to the highest volume because I slept through mine a couple times (luckily it was a personal trip!) The look on their faces said it all. I visited this hotel to pick up friends and was shocked by the conditions. The property is poorly maintained, remarkably dirty, and the rooms are tiny and claustrophobic. It feels less like a hotel and more like a converted tenement building. Beyond the lack of cleanliness, the 'amenity' pricing is a joke--$75 for a small bottle of vodka is daylight robbery. My friends were so uncomfortable they checked out after just one night. We had a great time at 6 Columbus hotel! It is so convenient to Central Park. We got an early check-in for $20, and a late check out for 120 which allowed us to leave at 3 PM. The room was fantastic! It was one of the larger rooms that you will see in New York City for the prize. It had a sitting room in a separate bedroom with a king bed. The sitting room had a pullout sofa which my daughter said was comfortable. There were two TVs in the room one in the bedroom and one in the sitting room. The bathroom was tiled and large. Adjacent is a sushi restaurant that serves American style breakfast. I would definitely stay here again. The mini bar was stocked with premium liquors and champagne. read more

This is probably the largest NYC hotel room I have ever stayed in. Usually NYC rooms are teeny tiny; this one was spacious and beautiful! The bed was very comfortable, the room was stocked with snacks, beverages, and... even condoms! Everything was ridiculously expensive, however, but that is to be expected. There were NOT enough outlets in this room and they were in strange places. The stick to close the curtain broke which made it a little difficult to close the curtains all the way, but I made it work. It was incredibly warm in the room but once I figured out the thermostat, it was fine. The shower was really nice; nice products, and the water pressure was fabulous. My only complaint is that while I was still laying in bed at 9:30-10am, housekeeping knocked and then immediately walked in! I suppose that was my fault for not putting the "do not disturb" on the door, but she didn't even give me a chance to verbally answer her. I'm just glad I was under the covers and not naked or in the shower! Good location to Lincoln Center (8 minute walk), and shops at Columbus Circle. read more

This just became our new spot any time we visit NYC! First off, the entire staff is AWESOME. Everyone is so helpful and friendly. Second, you can't beat the location. It's a 2 minute walk to Central Park, the bar next door (All & Sundry) is fantastic, and it's easy and quick to get just about anywhere whether you're walking, taking an uber, or subway. Also, the hotel bar is really nice and so is the upstairs dining area, although we didn't order food this time (just drinks). Lastly, the rooms are a decent size, way more modern than most hotels, and very clean. And no, we didn't just get lucky - we actually extended our stay and got a new room the last day and it was even better than the first. Overall we are so grateful we found this place and can't wait to come back! read more

Will never stay here again. For ~$460/a night, this hotel was unacceptable: The A/C unit was ineffective and never reached anything close to the desired temperature of 68 degrees at night. The bed had no mattress protector or fitted sheet - only a flat sheet that was loosely sitting on top of the mattress, which was wildly discolored/stained and clearly FAR too old. There was a duvet cover but no blanket, which made getting comfortable at night difficult with the A/C working so poorly. I woke up sweating no fewer than 5 times each night. Housekeeping came through fairly early and did not knock or announce their presence before opening our door. I have stayed in much nicer Holiday Inn Express rooms. I just wrapped my first stay here and although the location is great the building and rooms are super problematic. My first room had water leaking from the ceiling in the bathroom with the drywall falling onto the floor. They moved me to another room after I had to insist and that room was by the garbage and had a bright light shining through the window without a black out curtain that could completely close. When I asked for a late checkout (just one hour) on top of all that they said not possible. For the money there are better places to stay so take my advice and stay elsewhere. read more

Things I look for in a hotel: cleanliness, a good place to rest, quiet and any novelty. This room was large, clean and had everything we needed. A cute room. The bed and pillows were not great- very thin pillows and what seemed like a hard, older spring mattress with no top sheet. It was not quiet. The doors slam and the street is loud (hello-NYC!). But the novelty of the location FOR ME made up any issue with the bed and noise. You could see the trees of central park, a subway station and the line for the bagel place from our room ! A bar is attached. A bar and restaurant are next door. Broad Nosh bagels is two doors down. Starbucks is on the other side. Pizza around the block. One block to Central park. Just a great location. I was nervous about the price (it seemed low) but I am glad we stayed there and I would absolutely stay there again. 2 stars=clean 1 star= novelty I would not normally give another star (noise and bed) but the location was too good so I adjust to 2 stars for novelty. read more

Upon checkin, they greeted us, grabbed our luggage, showed us the check-in desk, and helped load our luggage into our room. They said that they gave us a "complimentary upgrade" from the original room we booked. (Always ask for that!) BUT upon further review, this room was not an upgrade. Not sure why I asked, after all! Super small. Not the most comfortable mattress. Thankfully there were no bed bugs, and no blood stains on sheets. The staff was helpful the entire stay. And they even brought an extra sheet when it seemed there was only a fitted sheet on the bed and not a flat one. They are attentive. My phone receiver didn't work as I dialed housekeeping, but I figured out the speaker function on the in-room phone worked. They're helpful. And while the room that we weren't in except to sleep, was very small, I like to consider NYC rooms a lot like dorm rooms- small, compact, leaving quite a bit to be desired but it's because you're here to tour NYC and not make it your new house or apartment! I appreciate the windows and window ledges in the room- good storage. Lobby is nice with sofas, although small, has lots of seating. Also-- this place is very hospitable, willing to bring me hot/boiling water each morning for my tea, all complimentary. This was a big plus! (And earns them a 4th star, in my opinion)! Let me also add that we found this on a 3rd party website for a steep discounted rate, and it seemed to be worth it! If you don't prefer to stay in Times Square, this is a good place to stay. This boutique hotel is excellent on location, great on comfort and on service. The drawbacks of this hotel are that the water pressure is almost too high, the elevators are a bit odd (one is roughly 3x5 feet) and the view we had was of a tube of brick walls with windows, nothing else. It did have a rooftop sitting area but no real views to speak of since the neighboring buildings are quite a bit taller. Like I said, the location is excellent, the room was comfortable and the employees were amazing but for the price paid, I am quite certain I could find a better deal. Came here for a trip to see my dad. I always stay at a hotel close by to his house so that if he needs anything I am there. So I had not stayed here before and wanted to try it. I got the Deluxe room and it was about $230 a night. This was a good price considering it was Memorial Day weekend and the hotel selections In Manhattan go quickly. The convenience of this location to the subway, Starbucks is next door, the grocery store and CVS are all in walking distance. The rooms have microwaves and mini fridges in them. I would stay here again. Cons: The door doesn't have anything to keep sound out so you can hear people walking up and down the hallway. And you can hear conversations clearly. Checkout is at 12pm but best believe housekeeping is knocking at the door at 9am asking when you are checking out. read more

Currently here now! Ok, the location is just AMAZING and the price is alright. So this must be causing some pretty generous reviews. The room is small and has double beds (which are really full size mattresses) and hard to share. Here is my challenge: the room is SO VERY humid!! It is somewhere between a 70-85% humidity. I have tried turning the A/C to 64° to reduce it and left it all day: no good. Just cold and humid. You know that feeling when you are sticky and uncomfortable whilst cold and unable to cover yourself? Also, the A/C is so loud!!! It's like a blower above your head. So, I called front desk and they were dismissive literally responding, "we have never heard anyone else make that complaint.". Ok... next day I call again and ask someone to come feel it inside. Someone comes an hour later and says, "it feels cool.". I say, can I feel another room for comparison? They reply yes. That was 2 hours ago.. it is almost 9PM. I know humidity, I lived in Florida. The next day I spoke to a manager who seemed appalled and said he had another room for us later that afternoon of day 3. No call, no note, no concern whatsoever. Look, I know location and money matter... but this may not be worth the discomfort. In the attached image you will see the trim of my son's bed had a staple sticking out of the torn off trim. Yes, this is the ledge of the bed. As I am writing this a chunk of the cabinet fell off. You can't make this stuff up. read more

I reached out to them via the hotels.com app to get the mini bar issue resolved. They took days to respond to each message, and acted like I was lying about the charge. In the theater, when a seat offers an obstructed or somehow imperfect view of the stage, it comes with a discount -- or at least an apology. These are the last-resort seats, the seats you sell when you have absolutely nothing else to sell. My "Queen Superior" room at 6 Columbus -- "among the city's best luxury accommodations" -- offered pretty much the most obstructed, soul-crushing view of imaginable, through a window splattered with pigeon crap and flecked with feathers. And definitely no discount or apology. So, just don't look out the window, right? Well, unfortunately, the sewer-dark view highlighted my gloomy room's closet dimensions and monastic furnishings, which mostly amounted to a lumpy mattress on a slippery wooden platform and an outsized minibar stocked like an airport duty-free shop (don't worry, the hotel takes a $200 security deposit at check-in, so if you accidentally eat the giant bag of knockoff M&Ms, you're covered). Chair? Fuhgeddaboutit. Just sit on your damned mattress platform, tourist. Upsides? The place seemed clean (though housekeeping was by request only) and the bathroom tile was pretty. The front desk staff wasn't unfriendly, and really, the location is terrific. By the end of my stay, the pigeons in my airshaft, with their relentless cooing, cooing, cooing, all day and all night, felt like filthy little pets, even though I know they really just wanted that bag of knockoff M&Ms. I won't be back, 6 Columbus, but I'll always remember how good it felt to check out. read more

Great location, tiny rooms, decent price. All in, including tax, it was $280 for a very small room, queen bed, no view. And when I say no view, the window faces a brick wall. That being said, you're 1 block from the park; literally cross the street and you're there. A room in a hotel 40 feet closer, where you can see the par is going to cost you 2x if not more. They used to have valet, but now you need to find your own parking. Icon Parking is 1/2 block away on the same street, but they're going to charge you $75 a night to keep your car there. Honestly, you have to bite the bullet and cough up the $75 because, even if you find a cheaper lot, it won't be much cheaper, and you'll end up walking all over the place or taking a bus to save $15 bucks. If you plan on going to the park during the day then going out at night & you're just looking for a decent place to come home to late at night and you are willing to sacrifice a few luxuries to keep the room price reasonable, this is your stay. read more

No frills hotel that charges you extra! I checked in for a 3 day stay, booked with Orbitz and with the understanding that I needed to provide a credit card at check in (as per usual with hotels) but I was not informed of an upfront security deposit charge in the amount of $200. I was told at check-in I would receive the full amount back assuming no damage to the room or purchases/services charged to the room during my stay. I did not request room service or daily cleaning (to avoid charges) and I did not drink any of the drinks or eat any of the food already in the room on arrival. The room itself was awkward, no outlets near the bed, just one four panel outlet underneath the desk with half of the four outlets covered blocked by an immovable desk. This was a business trip and so this was particularly a pain point for me. Prior to check out, I cleaned the room myself and stacked the towels on the desk space and consolidated all of the garbage into one little area in two bags, to make things easier for the custodial staff and again to avoid any charges. At checkout, I'm told I'm being charged a $30 daily service fee. What services am I being charged for? Front desk staff could not tell me if this was a separate charge or deducted from the $200 security deposit. Is this purposeful opacity or frank stupidity? Strongly advise against booking with this hotel. I certainly will be avoiding in the future. read more

We got to stay at the hotel compliments of someone else (a company I was working with) and we were very pleased with the accommodations. It is a tight room but what isn't in NY. Even with a couple of us sharing the room, we never had to dance to get around each other. Compared to the dark hallways, the room had a great window and lighting. Our room had two queen beds (or were they doubles?!) but they were comfy and the accommodations were clean! The bathroom was smart and I should have photographed it but they had a makeup towel - that isn't white. How smart is that?! They had all sorts of treats in the room that people can help themselves too (for a fee). We also made our way to the roof bar and would have lingered longer but we had a larger group than they could fit last minute. But it was relaxing, you could order drinks or food and there were plenty of comfortable options for seating. I really wanted to see one of their suites so maybe next time I'm in town... #makesmewander read more

Alright let's get the positive out of the way: the location is great. Either through walking or public transportation, you will be able to access several different parts of the city in minutes. Unfortunately, the pros end there, I have a bunch of cons to discuss. The rooms are small...really small! So small that if you open the door, you will remain in the line of sight unless you enter the bathroom and close the door. Aside from the already cluttered desk table, there is no place to park your stuff. The nightstands were quite small as well. Due to the pandemic, room cleanings are understandably restricted. With that in mind, it makes one wonder why the room only sported one small garbage can. It became too easy for trash to pile up. There was a hairdryer, but no iron/ironing board to be found. The bathroom was just as flawed. Again, no real place to put your stuff aside from a thin glass shelf over the toilet, and a deep space under the window. The issue with the window space is that it got easily wet. I will admit that I am a fan of high-water pressure showers, but the pressure in this shower was dialed up to 100. Almost as if you were under a waterfall. The pillows were FLAT, I mean the pillows had no give at all. This made falling asleep more difficult than it had to be. Sleep would still be hard because of the noise level. You will enjoy the constant symphony of slamming doors and talking guests inside your room. But it took a while to understand why doors were slamming: the doors do not self close. You may think they do, but you really need to pull the door in hard to make sure your room is secure. Finally, and most curiously...there was a random unopened water bottle placed on one of the nightstands. This brand of water wasn't listed with the priced Voss water and other room snacks. So, was this left by the previous occupant or what? Either way, this hotel didn't get the job done. read more

After reading the reviews on this hotel I realize how low maintenance I am compared to the other guests. You get what you pay for. This hotel is in a great location with a subway stop across from the hotel. Additionally there is a adjacent Starbucks. The staff was very friendly during the check in & check out process. I took full advantage of the complementary WiFi in the lobby. There are two elevators and while they are small, I never once rode the elevator with another guest during my 3 night stay. The hallways are tight and narrow as described, but you are also in an old building. Call it NYC charm. If you want something new, go stay in a generic corporate hotel. The key pad on the door was nice, not having to insert a card every time. I had a deluxe king room. It was spacious. At first glance the room looks pristine, but you can soon tell it's **about that time** for a renovation. There was a fully stocked mini bar and refrigerator. The carpet had a nice pattern, but was worn where you get out of bed. This was when I noticed it's time to repaint the walls and maybe new furniture. The mattress slides and the lampshade was ready for a replacement. How the overhead light fixture shade was bent, I couldn't tell you! The water pressure was a FORCE, so either I had a great room or this concern was fixed. The fittings and accessories are Waterworks. You can hear the room next to you turn on their shower. Again, nothing crazy. It's just the art of NYC. I booked on Hotels Tonight but was made aware if I booked via the hotel directly and advised the cost on Hotels Tonight , they would honor it. The best part about this hotel is the prime location. It's near Central Park and conveniently across the street from the train and world class restaurants like Per Se and Masa. We liked our room and the hotel. We had 3 issues. Our biggest issue consisted of the pillow density. You can stack all of the pillows on top of each other, but as soon as you lay down you're essentially laying flat on the mattress with no head support. Folding it doesn't make it better. If they brought 10 more pillows I'm not sure if it would've made a difference. The second issue was how understaffed the front desk was. There was always a line. That being said, everyone we interacted with was incredibly friendly and charismatic. Perhaps, they just need an extra person or two. The last issue was the giant roach that run into the elevator. I don't really hold that against the hotel. I've lived in NY most of my life and understand that the Plaza likely has roaches too. They're everywhere. I wouldn't stay here again solely for the pillow issue. I'm not very picky with pillows and mattresses, but these pillows were extremely disappointing. read more

Absolutely superb. I stayed in the Columbus Suite here. The room was absolutely impeccable - it was clean, logically and beautifully designed, and simply felt comfortable. Unlike many, many other NYC hotels in the area, the rooms were well-cleaned, there weren't obvious corners cut, and staff were impressively polite and responsive. Even better, the hotel has free passes to Equinox (across the street)! It's frankly really hard to express how rare places like this are in NYC - staying here was a genuine pleasure, and I cannot recommend it enough. read more

I understand that hotels jack up their prices for the holidays. I also understand that last minute reservations are also more expensive. That said, I booked a king sized room about 10 days out (for a funeral) at just under $650/nt. I really don't have anything positive to say about this hotel or our experience. While there was a sticker to seal the door indicating that it was "sanitized", we still found trash under the nightstands and under the main dresser. There really isn't any technology in the room, other than a TV. There are no USB connectors to charge your devices, so make sure you bring a wall plug to charge all your devices. The hallways are very dark and very narrow. There are padded walls in the elevator, and dark fuzzy felt in the hallways. I'm 5' tall and could stretch my arms out and touch both sides of the walls. Overall, the hotel was very, very dark. On the morning we were to check out, the ceiling started to leak (heavily) over the toilet, which made using the toilet before the long drive to the airport extremely challenging. This place is only worth $150/nt. At $650/nt I expected a whole hellva lot more! The only positive is that it's one block from west central park, and there is a Starbucks right next door. I would only recommend to stay here if every other place is sold out and your only other option is the Trump Tower. read more
