Yelp Review 2025 #234: While in New York, I stayed at The Muse. The location is convenient. It's a short walk from Times Square and plenty of restaurants. It's not far from Rockefeller Center, and it's about 15-20 minute walk to Central Park. The rooms are nice, spacious and clean - which is not common in New York. The bathroom is nice too. Everything I needed for a comfortable stay, I got from my room. There's a gym. The staff were helpful especially when I had to leave my luggage after checking out. The only problem was getting an Uber was pretty challenging. There's not an easy/ quicker way to get to LGA/ EWR/ JFK from this hotel. I gave myself 2 hours to get to La Guardia. read more

Nice staff, great location and felt safe. From the moment I walked in and until I left, every staff member was great and helpful. They answered my questions and even got me a taxi to the airport. Location is one block from Duffy Square and close to many Broadway theatres. Yet, far enough away where it was quiet. The only noise that bothered me was when the A/C unit turned on. I appreciated that there is a small bar/restaurant onsite with a limited menu. There are also water filling stations on every floor. My room was clean as were the public areas. Despite some downsides, The Muse New York hotel is otherwise a solid choice for travelers seeking lodging accomodations in mid-town Manhattan, and more specificially near bustling Times Square. Pros: * Location - Walk out the front doors, turn left, and "Boom!" Within 3 minutes, you are literally in the heart of iconic Times Square. Having grown up in NYC, Times Square doesn't hold the novelty for me, but it is cool to stroll through to see all of the lights and sounds of what many tourists consider the "heart of NYC." The Muse is also within a 3-5 minute walk of several subway stations. Out of towners who aren't used to taking public transist may be intimidated, but honestly, for about $3/ride, taking the subway is the BEST option for getting around the five boroughs. TIP: Depending on your length of stay, getting the 7-day pass is the best value for subway transit. But if you prefer, there are also plenty of yellow cabs and all of the major ride sharing services will stop in front of the hotel. * Room - Smallish, but modern, and well appointed; especially the bathroom. There isn't a ton of space to "spread out," but enough to place your suitcase/bag on the luggage rack out of the way. Bed was comfy, and the pillows weren't lumpy. Nice hot shower with good water pressure and also appreciate that there is a small fridge (which is rare) to place fruit and leftover takeout from nearby restaurants. Climate control was also functional and kept the room nice and cool; the unit can get loud. Also like there are lots of USB and other outlets to charge the various electronic devices people travel with. * Amenities - None really to speak of, other than the gym (which was under renovation during my stay; but there was a partner agreement with a nearby hotel to use their fitness center), and a large lounge area - which appears to at one time to have been a full service bar - but now is a large seating area with couches and tables. On the 10th floor behind the elevators, is a water filling station which also has...sparkling water and ice!!! It's the little touches which make a pleasant stay, and I definitely filled up my water bottle (which I always take with me on travel) with crisp bubbling water and tossed in a few wedges of lemon from a nearby bodega. * Staff and Service - All of the staff I interacted with were quite friendly and always attended to any question I had promptly. I also very much appreciate that I was able to securely store my luggage before check-in, and after I checked-out since I had a later flight. Cons: * Location - Because you are so close to Times Square, expect it to be LOUD and I mean, all hours of the day LOUD. You can expect to hear the roar of car engines, blaring sirens from police and ambulance vehicles, people screaming and yelling into the wee hours, and perhaps the most jarring sound to awake you at 3am, a constant sound of the hydraulics of garbage trucks hauling away trash. There also aren't a bunch of afffordable food options, but a search on Yelp will yield some cheaper restaurants. * Price - I was staying on a government per diem, so my rate was below market rate, but expect to shell out between $300 - $400+ /night. Which is about average from mid-town NY. But the big gotcha are ALL OF THE TAXES AND FEES, the most onerous of which is a "destination" or "resort fee." There is a $40/day Destination fee, which I'm still not entirely sure I understand. But this is common with MANY popular tourist destinations. Just realize that even if you get a "good" rate online, I'd call the hotel to ask them what the "FINAL" bill will be once taxes and fees are factored in...cuz you'll be surprised how much it adds. * Room - I already referenced that the room is on the smallish side, but the "CON" here is the walls are thin so expect some noise to bleed over. Everytime my "neighbors" lifted or closed their blinds, opened or closed the coat closet, or coughed loudly...I heard it. Thankfully, they weren't too noisy; and I in kind tried to be respectfully quiet. But just be aware that if you choose to stay here, it's advisable to use your "inside voice." Here's the bottom line. It's gonna cost money to fly into LGA, or JFK; the taxi / ride share is gonna cost about $100+; food is gonna be pricey, and it's gonna be loud. If you want cheaper hotels, fly into Newark and stay out in Jersey. But then you'll also spend 1-2 hours commuting into the city and spend just as much on transist. While there are some significant "CONS," on the whole I still recommend The Muse as one of the better options for lodging in the area. read more

I've stayed here twice now within the last 3 months and both visits were excellent. The staff here is exceptional. Every single person i came in contact with was just great. I truly appreciate little touches, like them remembering my name and saying hello while using my name, just to me means a lot. I opted for an upgrade to the bigger king room and felt the room was very spacious. The bathrooms are beautiful. I love the water fill stations as well. My latte from the restaurant was also delicious! You can't beat the location and honestly I didnt not feel like it was loud at all for being close to Times Square. Visiting from California, my cousins and I stayed at the Muse for five nights and had a wonderful experience. The staff was all very friendly and welcoming. Daniel gave us excellent recommendations and helped guide our trip in the exact direction we wanted to go. The room was great, everything was clean and comfortable. The unique individual stalls in the lobby bathroom were a nice touch too. The biggest reason I'd recommend this hotel is the top-notch hospitality provided by everyone who works there! read more

Second stay and I really love this hotel. It's clean, spacious and in a perfect location for theatre going visitors. It's rare to find two queen beds in Midtown and they are comfortable. The bathroom is by far the largest we have had in Midtown hotels. The shower has fantastic water pressure. I love that. They have a water bottle refilling station by their ice machines too. How this place has transformed since leaving Kimpton and IHG. First, the staff are super welcoming and knowledgeable of local restaurants and attractions. Second, absolutely love how "green" this hotel is from soap and lotion dispensers to real glasses and water dispensers throughout the floors. Gone are the plastic liners in the trash receptacles. Way to go Muse! Combined with your fun location and sizable rooms for NYC, we'll be back. Enjoy! read more

Busy street! Room is comfortable. Very clean and very courteous staff. Very close to Times Square, so might be a tad loud for some. Showers were good, two choices for shower heads. Hot water was plentiful. Again, another hotel without a clock. Just not used to that. Comfortable bed. Nice pillows. Tv was a tad challenging, but, thankfully there was a remote. read more

When I spoke to the desk clerk he told me that the hotel has no recourse because the building next door has permits to start at 630am. Why they put us in a room next to the construction when they knew it would wake us at 620am on a Saturday?!?! If you're going to book here just ask for a room across the building or on floor 6 and up. read more

Located just a few doors down from major Broadway venues. The curb appeal is horrid compared to the quality of the actual hotel - so don't let the (run down) facade dissuade. +Pets stay free. We picked here as I lived in NYC and avoided all the touristy spots when I was here. This place put us close but still a little off the path. Check In process was amazing- Daniel is one of the friendliest and most welcoming folks I have encouraged. (I travel for work and stay in hotels pretty much weekly, service like this is why i frequent places) Had a minor bump during check in- issue with reservation which he assured me that things would be fine and he made sure of that! We ended up in a balcony king room, the "balcony" should be renamed a full patio , we could have hung string lights set up a bar and had a cocktail hour! The room was clean, housekeeping did well. We went out the next am and like clockwork Daniel remembered me by name and greeted me and my partner. There's something to be said for that. In a busy city and the people coming in/out to be remembered. Kudos to the Muse and staff! read more

We knew it was going to be an excellent experience from the moment we approached the front desk. Since we arrived at 11am and check in wasn't typically until 3pm, we assumed we'd need to check our bags, go out sight-seeing for a while, then come back at 3:00 to check into our room. The friendly employee didn't bat an eyelash and went straight into checking us in with no questions. The lobby was nice and quite spacious compared to other NYC hotels we have stayed at. Our room was surprisingly roomy as well. It was very clean and decorated nicely. It was also very quiet, which is key in a city hotel. Our tour company gifted us with a bottle of wine but no glasses, so we left a note for the housekeeping staff and when we got back they had left two wine glasses. The one problem we did run into was with housekeeping letting themselves into our room very early. It was only 8:30am and my husband went for a walk as I showered. With it being that early, we didn't think to put out a do not disturb sign. As I was finishing up in the bathroom, I heard someone in the room and assumed it was my husband, back from his walk. Nope, it was housekeeping. I'm sure they knocked but I didn't hear it behind the closed bathroom door. I think at 8:30am a huge percentage of people are still in their room, either sleeping or getting ready for the day. That unfortunate mishap aside, we very much enjoyed our stay and would return in the future...but will now be more careful about putting out the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. read more

I'm so grateful I can usually always trust Yelp to stear me in the right direction. We looked at various options, but the reviews, affordability and proximity to everything is what sold us. I love that The Muse is tucked just around the corner from the chaos. But close enough that you still feel like you're emersed in the city completely. The room was spacious, clean and we could not hear anything once we shut the door. I was a little nervous of this since I am a pretty light sleeper. The staff is genuinely warm and accommodating. I'm honestly amused though not in a good way by my stay at The Muse Hotel NYC. I paid $952 for two nights in a room specifically booked with a city view. I called twice before arriving to confirm we'd be on a high floor with a view, as this was a special spring break trip for my teenager and me after I recovered from illness. When we arrived, Daniel at the front desk was polite but dismissive. We were placed on the 10th floor in the back of the building. The "city view" was a brick wall and rooftops covered in equipment definitely not what was promised. Despite booking for two guests, we only had one robe. When I asked other guests, they said their room had two on arrival. When I requested a room change, I was flatly told no, no apology, no effort, not even the option to switch the next day. The final straw? I was charged an extra $91 in destination fees, despite being told at check-in that it was only a hold for incidentals. I contacted management and haven't received a response. A truly disappointing experience for what was supposed to be a special trip. --E read more

This hotel came with our Costco travel package, it's located in the Times Square neighborhood which we initially tried to avoid since it's very touristy, but it's off a few blocks away from the craziness and crowd which is perfect because it's a bit more quiet yet very central to be that we have access to all the subway line to get around New York City. If you're hungry in the middle of the night, you can easily walk within minutes to get food and feel safe as there will still be plenty of people out. You loose sense of time as Times Square is still light up and packed at 2 in the morning on a weekday. Hotel room was comfortable, wouldn't be somewhere I book to hang out at to have a staycation, but it was not micro size as some warned about staying in New York, it even had a mini fridge which some hotels I've stayed in LA or Vegas don't even offer. There are no views as the city is jam packed with sky scrapers and buildings blocking any sort of scenery from the room, but that's ok, we're not here to sit inside the hotel and look at views. This is a good choice for a hotel with some style right in the theater district. The lobby is compact and can get crowded during the Kimpton wine hour each evening, but there is a little elbow room around the bar and you can enjoy a nightcap after your show. Service was perfectly fine. I decided to spring for a terrace room and even though it was chilly out, I enjoyed having that space. If you get one of those, you'll also be on one of the higher floors away from the street noise. The terrace is a large space, about the size of the bedroom itself, with two lounge chairs and a table with seating for four more. So you really can have a little party out there. It's fun to get a close-up view of the surrounding buildings and the colorful lights. The bed was quite comfortable and the bathroom is nice enough with a good-sized shower. They appear to have toned down some of the hot pink accents that are on their website photos--my room was mostly black and white with a little pink stitching in the coverlet at the foot of the bed. There's no room service and a fairly limited menu at the bar for dining, but the Pig 'n' Whistle pub is just a couple of doors down and will fill your belly fine. There's also the new Taco Dumbo one block up on 47th St., which is just starting out but has way-cool design, tasty tacos, and a fun create-your-own-margarita menu. The Kimpton Muse is a good spot if you want to be in this location and you want something other than cookie-cutter beige design. It doesn't have a full scope of amenities, but if you don't need that then it's a solid choice. read more

In addition to being a beautiful hotel, the staff is beyond incredible. They went out of their way to help us us from a situation that had nothing to do with the hotel, but they prevented us from being scammed out of hundreds of dollars, without hesitation. The manager made us feel so safe and protected. I had barely explained the situation before the manager told me he would hande it, and sent us to our room. He then called us to make sure we were ok and safe. I will stay here anytime I come back to New York!!!! read more

Had a great stay here! Booked the Kimpton Muse through Hotel Tonight after confirming that the rate was (slightly) discounted. With taxes and fees, it came out to $223 for a Friday night. Reasonable considering the luxury level and the fact that it's about a block from Times Square. The lobby here is beautiful, and the staff were all extremely professional and friendly. The room was also spacious (by Manhattan standards!) and comfortable. From 5pm - 6pm, they had a complimentary wine social hour in the lobby - you could just grab a glass of wine and take it back to your room, if you preferred. The only thing really missing was the lack of complimentary water in the room. Otherwise, a great hotel! read more

Being from NY and dealing with the pandemic and everything going on, I was looking for a little getaway with some city views for relaxation and peace of mind! The views were there, but the peace of mind was NOT. I booked a room with a balcony and could not have been more excited. When we arrived the check in process was fast, since there really was not any other guest checking in. The front desk agent handed me the room key and told me, "You have the biggest balcony in the hotel." This made me even more hype! What can I say about the room itself? It was nice and clean. Now to the balcony, there were two recliner type chairs, but both were filthy and one actually had bird sh*t on it. The table was tiny, so plans of getting food and eating it outdoors on the balcony were erased. The room next door also had a balcony with a better setup! They actually had a high table with chairs! Aside from that, the room next door was having a party and smoking weed non-stop. The smell was going inside my room and they were being extremely rowdy. It shows negligence on their behalf allowing parties on their balconies. It was pretty uncomfortable and I honestly regret spending the extra money on a balcony room. ** My advice would be to just get a regular room. read more

A boutique hotel near Times Square with hip stylish rooms, comfortable furnishings and modern updated bathrooms. I find myself seeking out kimpton hotels more and more in my travel-they are popping up in all the major cities. In fact just a month ago I enjoyed a stay at one in Portland Oregon. On this trip to NY we stayed for 4 nights. What all the kimpton hotels seem to have in common is flair-from the distinctive colorful rooms (very pop-art inspired) to warm welcoming staff and a few special hospitality touches like lobby wine reception at 5 (just don't expect top shelf quality wine). PROS: -cool, artsy rooms-and ours on the 8th floor with two bed was fairly large by NYC standards -large modern bathroom with large double vanity (always nice), cool lighted mirror, shower with rain shower head and a separate shower hand held -fairly quiet and very effective A/C -comfortable bed with linens that were just right-not too heavy and plenty of pillows -lobby wine reception at 5 -great location just a couple of short blocks from Times Square and theatre district -room was very quiet-heard no street noise or neighbors OPPORTUNITIES -I feel their toiletries could be a bit better -upgrade the quality of the wine at the free reception -really low end but heck, it is free -prices-with all the crazy taxes, we paid nearly $500 per night-very pricey Bottom line: I wouldn't hesitate to return given the rooms and prime location. read more

Really took me by surprise Most Kimpton properties or IFG for that matter Are a four star or sometimes three. This particular hotel is not only the best location if your intentions are to be in mid town near the theater district or Times Square in general. But it happens to be one of the best run hotels anywhere that I have run across and I am 74 years old. Everything runs smoothly. Housekeeping is greater then exceptional. Fixtures are just terrific. Very comfy beds, best shower possible. I feel the management is largely and mostly due to the unusually supreme concierge. Daniel Mitchel, he has an instinct what each customer needs and delivers. We asked the lady at the front ( which was nice ) where we can buy water bottles and she told us whenever the bar opens (11 am) it's 7 am and I have to get up and go to a convenient store for water. I stayed at the Muse for a quick trip to see a Broadway show in New York. The checkin process was quick and efficient, the staff is amazing, and the room was spotless. I loved how close the hotel was to Times Square and the theaters but since it's a half block from Broadway, it didn't feel overwhelming in the way some of those other hotels there can be. There are great restaurants next door and the lobby in the hotel was very quiet and a nice place to sit and get some work done. It's priced extremely well for what you get. If you want a chill, elegant, quiet hotel within steps to Times Square, this is the spot. read more

I think "4 star boutique" hotel must mean something different here because this was one of the most boring, bare bones hotel experiences I've had. The room was small and clean and very close to Times Square. That's all. There were 0 amenities, no door person the entire duration of our stay (3 weekend days), no water bottles in room, no room service, bar was closed, no coffee pot in room, no brochures or magazines or hotel info in room, no mini bar or snack options in room, no mini mart in lobby, no concierge service, etc. etc. I would definitely look somewhere else next time I am in town for a 4 star experience. read more

We just returned from NYC after booking this hotel. It is very rundown having once been in the Kimpton Hotel chain, it is sad, smelly and charges a bogus "destination fee" for amenities that don't exist - not even a coffee maker in the room. The staff did nothing for us. DIdn't offer to help with bags or do much more than open the door and we waited for check in as the one staff person was on the phone. The desk is not manned at night, even though you're paying regular hotel prices and the property is marketed as "luxury" or "boutique." It is not. Beware of that destination fee. You do not want to get ripped off, paying above what this room should go for when the hotel is in desperate need of a refresh, having been bought by a group that supposedly turns aging properties around. They haven't done that. They just charge you an extra $45.9 a day. I suggest paying more for a better quality hotel that has real amenities than paying for nothing. I posted a real review on Expedia where I booked and it isn't there among all the 10 star reviews with typos in them. read more

The Muse was such an amazing location to stay. It is less than a hundred feet from time square. When I was dropped off by the Uber, I was dropped off in time square and had to walk a little due to a road closure. But it wasn't far at all. This hotel is such a prime location - you can walk out the door make a right and go towards the Rockefeller or turn left and go towards time square. They allow dogs in the hotel which is nice. We left a trash bag outside our door to take it out with us and a housekeeping coordinator stopped by and asked to take it for us. The front desk is welcoming and very helpful. Except this one front desk employee, we asked for an umbrella as we didn't want to go back up to the 11th floor, she wouldn't provide us with one so we bought one out in the shops. However, everyone else was extremely nice. If I remember, Daniel was great. The beds were extremely comfortable and housekeeping came by to disinfect everyday. The bathroom has two sinks (double queen bed) and two shower head options. The lighting in the bathroom was great, but they added a lighted magnified mirror for makeup as well. I would recommend the Muse over the Marriott. Coming from a huge Marriott Fan. read more

I literally plate hate coming to NY, when I say it's my least place to visit it definitely is. Had to come in town to meet a client and needed a place to lay my head. Decided on this hotel and I'm glad I did. Shoutout to Joseph the front desk for directing me to the hotel in the middle of protests. He stayed on the line with me while the a-wipe police officer refused to let me through the empty street where they weren't protesting where the hotel was. So I appreciate his assistance because I just left philippes and I was tired! Secondly they are dog friendly dior was very happy to be able to eat her food in a dog bowl on a mat provided by the hotel. Lastly, they have everything the benefit of all Kimpton hotels. The only reason they don't get a 5 star is because valet doesn't allow in and outs, the location is good so if you're only going in the city it's fine or only need a one night stay. Update we get back to LA and Dior has flea eggs on her... she's never had fleas in the 3 years I've had her. Which leads me to believe the hotels doggy bed is the cause. I'm Inner Circle with Kimpton but this property does not live up to Kimpton standards. I stayed twice in 2 week period and had issues both times. 1st stay end of April When I arrived my free amenity was wrong so I notified the front desk. They confirmed they'd change it out the next day but they never did over the next 2 days. The room had a broken holder for the toilet paper and the shower drained so slowly I had 3 inches of water while showering. I asked them to fix both and they cleaned the drain but not the toilet paper holder. The elevator made loud noises too. After check out, I called and left 2 voicemails over the course of a week to get a question answered about my bill. No one ever called me back. 2nd stay in early May At check in, I asked about my bill from last stay and the front desk nicely helped me out. When I told them accounting never returned my call, he simply said "they get busy". Too busy to return a call within 1.5 weeks?? when I got to my room, my inner circle amenity was wrong and again I immediately notified the front desk who said they'd bring the right amenity but they never did. The bartenders at lobby bar were very friendly and made a good drink when my wife and I stopped by. I sent an email to The Muse sharing my poor experience and NO ONE has replied to that email either after more than 8 days. read more

Great location! The room was huge compared to other NYC hotels. Very clean and courteous staff. My room faced Times Square, but the room was quiet inside. Great AC and room had a fan (although I traveled with one for white noise). Will definitely stay at The Muse again. read more
