Yelp doesn't have half stars, so this is more a 2.5/5. Can I just say, it is difficult to find a hotel with double beds in NYC lol they only had one floor of double beds. My go-to hotels ran out of double beds so I found availability with Hotel 48Lex The good: - the staff is by far the best part of this hotel. The front desk staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Very polite. They do do housekeeping every single day. I forgot to put my tag on the door and someone came in and made the beds, changed the trash. In all my traveling post-COVID restrictions, usually housekeeping doesn't come every day. I asked for more washcloths and they were there within 15 minutes. - VERY great location. Near the 6, Grand Central station, many cool restaurants, and cabs were plentiful. - Sheets smelled clean and the mattress was great. - Good shower pressure. A little convoluted but get the job done. - I've noticed more hotels going away from irons and towards steamers. I was annoyed until I saw how good the steamer worked. However, even though many hotels are adopting these, they aren't building in places to hang the clothes to steam them. The Bad - for a hotel that brags about luxury, it needs serious upgrades. The vents were dirty, seams on the wallpaper were coming up. Rust on the bottom of the shower. A weirdly placed picture that must've been covering something up. - the shower design is terrible. There's nothing separating the bathroom floor from the shower floor so water gets everywhere. Also, there's clear signs of rust because of the poor design. - the food voucher system is weird. You should be able to combine the vouchers if you have more than one occupant. read more

Visited: November 2025 I stayed at Hotel 48 Lex during a quick trip to New York and honestly, it did exactly what I needed it to do. The lobby is super small, literally a hallway with a desk right by the elevator, so don't expect anything grand when you walk in. But the price made me smile! I paid a little over $200 for a room that normally sits around $400 a night, which is rare for NYC. My room was on the 14th floor with views that felt very "Welcome to New York," and that alone made the stay worth it. The staff was friendly throughout my visit and the room itself was clean, comfortable, and quiet. I also loved the convenience of the in-house restaurant. I grabbed avocado toast, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and fruit in the morning before heading out -- super easy and really good. Overall, nothing fancy, but a solid, comfortable stay and definitely worth it for the price and location. read more

While our room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel is in a great location, there were some issues with the "fine print" or the "resort costs" associated with this hotel. When brought to management's attention, the woman we spoke with was not at all customer service oriented and her attitude was less than professional. The gentleman we spoke to at check in and saw multiple times throughout our stay was very kind and professional. So, when booking and before paying, PLEASE take the time to read the fine print. We were 2 couples and booked 2 separate rooms, but for us both, only 1 breakfast voucher for each day was provided as part of the resort fees. There was a robe in the bathroom, but again, only one. One room was not provided with soap and was said to be a suite and was paid extra for, but it was not the room described when booking and paying for. The free Wi FI did not work the entire time, 1 elevator was out for a time, and the wine happy hour from 5-7pm offered 2 cheap wines, and nothing else for those who don't drink wine-all part of those obligatory "resort fees." The hotel did allow us to check our bags both before and after our check in/out times which was extremely helpful, and quite possibly could be worth these additional fees and charges to the room, but that's for each to decide ( but leaving our bags was not negotiated before our arrival and most NYC hotels will do this for no fee). The actual lobby is sparse, but they do have a nice lounge area to sit in on the second floor. They also have water refilling stations on room floors-not sure about all. We stayed 4 nights and even though the location was spot on, this hotel did not meet our expectations. The room was not clean and we had to ask the second day for the floor to be cleaned. The coffee was not refilled and we had to request refills each day. The curtains did not close effectively, and the lighting was not good. Umbrellas unavailable when we had rain. Free breakfast was not as free as they made it clear to the two of us (wife and I) that only "one plate" was complementary. Wi-fi was continuously going out over the 4 days. This place has a sweet place in my heart! Comfortable bed, water stations so don't have to pay $262873983 for a bottle of water and really awesome staff! Recently celebrated my husbands birthday and they sent up a bottle of wine which was awesome! Despite the chaos outside, windows were very sound proof and as a light sleeper, didn't hear a peep. We stayed here because my work had a deal with this hotel and we could stay for cheaper than other hotels nearby. The location was good. Easy access to subways. The room was huge by New York standards. Two queen beds plus a couch and we had plenty of room for all our stuff. Bathroom was nice. We were on a low floor given the cheap rate and I was concerned about noise but we just blasted white noise at night and it was fine. There was a nice lounge on the 2nd floor. It's a shame I can't give this hotel more than two stars, and they were very close to getting all 5 if it weren't for the absolute disaster upon checkout. First off, the hotel is great for a low key, clean, spacious but dark room and a weekend away in NYC. The area that it's in is cleaner than other areas of the city, and the glass was thick enough to block out most of the city sounds. The floors only have 4-5 rooms per floor, and it was quiet for me, but my gf claimed to hear loud bangs by the linen closet around 1:30am and noises that woke her and her parents up in the room down the hall. Not great there. The bed was super comfortable, I slept like a rock and enjoyed the king size. The shower took awhile to heatup as other reviews have stated. But the room was spacious, but a little dark and dreary, needs more lights. The big problem is the catch, the bait and switch, the "priviledge fee" that comes down on you at the end of your stay. The people that work there will smile through there teeth and treat you like fake hotel customer service, but when something goes awry they become downright awful. First, the "breakfast credit" where they claim to give you $30 free for breakfast. It's a lie. It's included in this "priviledge fee" so whether you get breakfast or not you're still paying for it. Also the "free" wine and cheese and other amenities that are "included" are in that fee as well. So if you don't use them, it doesn't matter, you're paying for it. Such a shame. Such terrible customer service. This hotel is another cash grab on the way out. If it wasn't for that, the stay would have been perfect. Stay somewhere else, this place will rob you. read more

Disorganized hotel. Find somewhere else to stay. I came to this hotel twice. Once for business trip for a night, the other time for a complimentary free night. On my business trip, everything was normal until one day. The housekeeper came in without permission when placed the do not disturb sign on the door. When I got back, room was somewhat tidied. I knew someone came in as the bed was made poor, towels were missing, and my clothes were moved. I mentioned to staff about my dissatisfaction during my stay and they passed the note to their manager, Abel. Abel didn't reach out to me before my leave, so I asked the staff to provide his contact info. In the end he offered a gift certificate for a free night. I had to call in to redeem the free night. Abel wasn't available and I was told only Abel could set up the booking with gift certificates. I contacted him via email but no reply. I waited a week to call again and a staff was able to set it up for me. For my final stay on Jan 6, it was for one night. I couldn't imagine anything could go wrong. I checked in early to drop off my belongings and returned late at night. When I returned, I realized the thermostat wasn't functioning properly and the garbage bin was full (presumably from the last guest). I didn't bother to deal with it as it was late at night. I told the staff the following morning when I checked out. They said a manager will reach out to me to address the issue but none did. read more

It was a really nice boutique hotel on Lexington Avenue. It was clean and comfy and I would definitely recommend it.

Unfortunately I don't have pictures of the hotel itself, only the cute Cognac eatery attached. My stay at the hotel was pleasant, aside from the room being set at 75 degrees for the duration of my stay (no need for the duvet HA) The room itself was clean and had a microwave, fridge, and dishwasher. Complimentary water bottles or bottles for purchase (sparkling or still) My only issue was the carpet in the rooms..... They have some sort of weird film/ feel to them. Maybe it's just me, but I recommend bringing a pair of socks. read more

The housekeeping manager admitted she wasn't even in the room and couldn't name a single reason for the charges, yet still refused to remove the charges I had a very disappointing experience at Hotel 48 Lex. I rented the penthouse suite and initially planned to extend my stay. The front desk assured me that I had until 12:00 noon to decide. At 11:45, I went downstairs to extend, but was suddenly told I could not because of "too many guests" and because the United Nations was in the building. On top of that, after checkout, I discovered an additional $576 charge labeled as an "excessive cleaning fee." When I called the hotel, I was told I needed to speak with the housekeeping manager she was not in they would leave her a message and she wouldn't call me back in the morning . She did not return my call, so two days later I had to reach out again. When I finally spoke with her, she was extremely unprofessional and admitted she was not even present in the room. She could not name a single issue with the condition of the room, which I had left spotless. Took out the garbage the bed was still made fresh towels still in bathroom wiped all countertops the room had absolutely nothing whatsoever wrong with itInstead, she claimed I had extra people there and implied she could have charged me even more. This is unacceptable. A guest should never be charged hundreds of dollars in fees without a valid reason, let alone be treated rudely when asking for clarification. I was left with an unfair bill, no accountability from management, and an overall terrible impression of this property. For anyone considering staying here, be very cautious. The way I was treated -- paying top dollar for a penthouse suite only to be hit with unexplained charges -- shows that this hotel does not value its guests or operate professionally. read more

Nice hotel. Staff is pleasant and helpful. Room is clean. I upgraded my 5 night stay to an Executive King Salon room for the extra space and glad I did. Perfect for 1 person, could handle 2 people if you don't mind being cozy. Loved the bathroom. A nice, quiet respite. The negatives aren't too bad. Sometimes you have to ask for things as housekeeping may forget to give you coffee supplies or a breakfast menu. The menu is important in order to have a little breakfast delivered to your room in the morning. You pick the time, the little something and a drink. Leave your choices on your door the night before. No safe in my room nor a luggage rack. I ended up using a side table to put my luggage on. Great natural light, but I wish there was more lights in the room when it was later. Two of my lights didn't work at all. You may also have to play with the curtains if they don't close all the way. One evening I did go to the reception but nothing was happening - no drinks or snacks - so I never went again. I liked the mini fridge and microwave in the room. Used the coffee maker. Weird that there were no glasses, silverware or plates, though there is room for them. Location is nice. Near Grand Central, a bus line to Times Square and other attractions. This is a quiet area near major businesses and other hotels. The Lexington and Intercontinental across the street. Not sure if I would stay here again, but I had a pleasant time and the price was right. And room was a good size by New York standards without the high price. read more

Had a staycation here for a friend's birthday. It was the perfect spot for us to have a low-key celebration (pre-Covid). Right from the beginning the staff were very welcoming - we even got an arrival cocktail at reception. The festivities continued as upon arrival to the room we found a complimentary bottle of bubbles for my friend's bday. We also enjoyed the hotel's wine and cheese hour (free!) and mixed with some other guests. Our room had a large balcony, a nice lounge area and a separate bedroom. Large by nyc standards. To finish off the great stay, we had a lovely breakfast in the morning. Lots of choice for all tastes. Would happily stay again and recommend to visitors to the city! read more

I have to give Destiny at the front desk a shout out, thank you for the bottle of wine that you sent to our room for my wifes birthday! Walking into the lobby and making a left to the small front desk was a quick transaction. We checked in, was given keys and said breakfast on the 2nd floor opens early. Enjoy your stay! And we sure did! The Nespresso coffee maker in the room was a nice touch as well as the large bathroom and king size bed. This hotel is also located in a nice area and another bonus is the subway, which is not too far away. We went to dinner in the Flatiron district, saw a Broadway show and since it was a nice night, we walked back across town to the hotel. The next morning, we woke up and went downstairs for a nice continental breakfast. The 2nd floor is is a large, private and welcoming space. It's a quiet place to start your day. If you're looking for eggs, there are hard boiled eggs available. Our only issue, it took a while for the hot water to get hot. The shower and the shower fixtures are new, I guess they need to work on replacing the hot water heater. I must say the TVs are like 37 inch TVs so they are very tiny considering today and when you compare them to other hotels in the area. We were looking forward to staying at Hotel 48LEX New York. Unfortunately when I twisted my ankle we had to postpone our trip. We called immediately on the cancellation date and was informed that because we got through 1 hour 27 min past the 4:00 cancellation cutoff time (watch your time zones) we would be charged for a night's stay. Two reservation specialists mentioned they have never known another hotel acting this way for such a small time difference. The hotel's actions seem very short sighted in a world where customer caring means so much. Well Hotel 48 made choosing a hotel easier for when we do get there. We won't be rescheduling with them....neither will our family, friends and their extended network. Update- I am happy to say, the manager, Abel, cared enough to settled our issue. This used to be my favorite place to stay when I visited my NYC office. It has changed ownerships a couple of times since its inception and things have deteriorated. I booked a room with 2 double beds with my son via Orbitz. I've emailed the hotel to confirm my reservation and let them know we would be arriving after midnight. We were informed that we got "upgraded" to a master suite when we arrived. However, upon entering the room the reason for the upgrade became clear. There was only one bed and it was a queen bed (actually it looked more like a full size). I went back to the front desk and was informed that the reservation I made was for a single bed. The hotel staff then told me that's what they received from Orbitz after I showed him my confirmed reservation on my phone. In addition, I was told there was no more double bed rooms available for the night. Being after 1Am I just wanted to go to bed and not wanting to make a fuss so I asked for a rollaway. After nearly an hour and an additional call to the front desk we were told that there was no more rollaway to the found in the entire hotel. My son ended up sleeping on the loveseat sofa because he stayed up later. After a 45 minute call with Orbitz the next morning, I was told that the hotel overbooked and gave away our room. Not sure who was telling the truth. It was an disappointing and frustrating experience. read more

This place is top notch! We stayed here for a few days while in the area. The rooms are clean and just enough space. They offer a complimentary happy hour on the weekends. Yes, please! They also offer a complimentary breakfast that is delivered to your room. They give you a menu of a few breakfast items to pick from each night. You leave it outside your room, and they magically bring coffee and breakfast at the time you specify. I wasn't a total fan of my breakfast, but my husband liked his. We also really appreciated the coffee first thing in the morning. The staff was friendly and helpful. We did have an issue with the shower and then sent someone over immediately to assist. The hotel is nice, but the resort/facility fee is a scam. I'm so sick of being cheated. They charge $57/day for an additional fee and pretend to throw in extras like a $25 credit at the restaurant, only they have a separate menu you have to choose from which has higher prices. None of it is opt out. This puts pressure on the employees who can't do anything about the situation and on the customers forced to pay these fees. To management, stop cheating and stealing! I know you stay in hotels and I know you don't like being stolen from either. Stop it. Just make the price the price. read more

Hotel is decent in a good location walking distance from some great restaurants, Rockefeller center, Times Square, and Central Park. There isn't much of a lobby - just big enough for a check in desk and a walkway out of the hotel. The good: the wine "hour" (which is actually two hours each night 5-7pm) was the highlight for us. This was the best complementary wine function at any hotel we've stayed at. The room where wine is served is a decent size and usually had plenty of places to sit regardless of when we arrived. There were only two wine choices (a white and a red) but the wine was good and free. The server who poured our wine most of the nights we visited was amazing. Her name was Lady. She didn't speak much English, but made up for it with a bubbly personality, excellent attentiveness, and was beyond friendly. She is a gem! I would return to this hotel just because of this experience! Also good, we were renting two rooms and made a request about a week before our trip to get the two rooms on the same floor. They did one better and the two rooms were right next to each other which worked out nicely. Could be better: We stayed in a Queen bed suite that had a number of maintenance issues that should not be present in a $350+/night hotel. The sliding bathroom door was off its track (at the bottom of the door), the sofa bed was broken (we made it work, but it was missing a bolt/nut that made it more difficult to extend), the remote for the main TV didn't work, and the main sliding door that closed off the bedroom only closed about 90% without having to push really hard. Housekeeping was also just ok. It took two days for them to replace our used Nespresso pods. We had three of us in our party, but the only had two towels. We ran out of toilet paper and had to borrow from another room (my mom's room who was staying next door). We had to write a note to get enough towels and toilet paper. There's also an automatic dishwasher in the room, but the hotel doesn't provide dishwasher soap. It would have been nice to be able to use this thing to wash our wine glasses. Had it not been for the preventable maintenance issues this would have been a four star hotel experience for us. I'm rating three stars because these types of issues are easily preventable by occasionally checking the room for problems and proactively fixing. Note: we did not raise these issues to the hotel so I can't comment on if or how fast they would have addressed. The issues were not significant enough for me to take an unknown amount of my time to raise these issues which would have taken time away from more important things we wanted to do during our limited time in NYC. read more

The location is fantastic, the rooms are very nice, clean, comfortable (I am an admitted hotel snob) , the shower was heavenly with full bottles of Malin & Goetz products, and the bathroom spacious! What really stood out here was the service. Every point of contact was met with friendliness and hospitality, which feels like such a rare occurence in this weird post-pandemic era!! We would stay here again in a heartbeat! They have the most comfortable beds and pillows! They also have free wine 5-7pm and a $25 credit for the $57 daily amenity fee. The customer service was great. Rachel at the front desk was very helpful, as was Anthony (I think he was the manager?) we dined at the French restaurant and it was excellent! Loved that chicken salad. Advertised as a 4 star hotel, but I didn't find much about it that screamed above 3 stars. The free breakfast is laughable; mostly breads and some yogurt. I went only to get coffee, which was decent. There was a noise from what sounded like constantly running water all night, but we couldn't figure out where it was coming from. The lobby is almost nonexistent and not always staffed. I do like how you have to have a key to enter the lobby though. The room was just okay, floor to ceiling windows was cool and despite our room overlooking Lexington Ave, it was quite quiet. The hotel restaurant is really good, so 4 stars for that. I wouldn't stay again, but the location is a few blocks from Grand Central so it is convenient. I just expect more for my money. read more

The only reason I booked a room here was for the balcony and I loved being able to get fresh air after rolling out of bed, but was disappointed in the overall maintenance/cleanliness of the hotel. For example, the balcony was huge but so were the weeds growing in the planter (no actual plants/flowers) and all the furniture/walls inside the room were visibly damaged/stained (not just regular wear and tear; pieces were broken off). You can tell that they're slowly working on repairing things, but a deep clean of all the rooms (and removal/replacement of damaged furniture/wallpaper) would do wonders in the short term to improve the overall quality. Bed was on the harder side but sheets/pillows were clean and fresh; TV and remote didn't work. I wanted to order room service but the phone in the room didn't work either so I had to call the restaurant from my cell phone to get the room service number (I wrote it down so hopefully they didn't throw that out ). I made sure I ordered breakfast bc I knew I was being charged for it (the scramble was good). read more

I usually don't leave reviews but I was really not happy with my stay or experience at 48lex. I checked in after a delayed flight at 1am and could not wait to go to sleep. At 330am the hotel room alarm clock went off. I guess it was previously set and never "reset" or was turned off after last guest? By the time I turned on the lights , found it, and figured out how to make it stop -- I was wide awake and couldn't go back to sleep. In the morning I told the front desk and she said "ok I'll make a note". No apology or recognition for this situation. Then I checked out- and confirmed that there would be no additional charges. She confirmed "yes, no additional charges". I left. And then received an email receipt along with a charge for $58 for "house fee". Also I should note- the bath towels and bath robe were dirty with make up. Absolutely awful service and experience. Would absolutely not recommend. read more

Overall this hotel has the potential to offer a four star experience, however the few hiccups I experienced during my stay caused the three star rating. The location of the hotel is great. You are one short Uber ride away from New York's top attractions. There is a friendly doorman here and a restaurant connected to this hotel. We did not get a chance to try the restaurant, but the food looked good. The lobby of this hotel is pretty small. However, that is to be expected in New York. It is small but has plenty of charm. We arrived to the hotel at about 1:00pm. We were told their checkin is 3:00pm and no rooms were available. They took my cell phone number and said I would get a text/call when the room was ready. They even offered to let us leave our bags, so we figured we would take the opportunity to explore New York while we waited. Hiccup #1. After hours of exploring we realized we never got a text or call. We decided to just go back to the hotel around 5:00pm and when we checked the room was ready. I let the person who checked us in know we were never notified and they apologized. Good thing we were in no rush to get into our room! We get to the room and the room itself is beautiful and SPACIOUS! However we find hiccup #2 and #3 in the room. Hiccup #2 Our sliding bathroom door would not stay closed. We had to put a shoe, yes I said a shoe, in the bottom crack of the door to keep it closed while occupied. Obviously, everyone wants privacy while they handle their "business", so this was a big inconvenience. Hiccup #3 The complimentary robe in the bathroom was soiled with what I presume to be makeup stains all over the collar and arm. That really grossed us out! It made us question if the room had been properly cleaned. When I called to let them know they just nonchalantly said they would send another one up. No apologies or anything. After that happened we had to inspect every inch of the towels and linen to feel comfortable. There is no coming back from hiccup #3. Once we saw that I was completely turned off from this hotel! Quite hotel. Mainly surrounded by office buildings . The location is nice but they have this odd "facility" fee. This will not be in your initial bill when you book but added on. So whatever your quote add around 68 per night. Essentially this is an additional fee in exchange for a 25 dollar credit at the hotel restaurant. Of course most items cost well over that. You get breakfast, which is nice. But I tried to use my credit one night and the restaurant was closed early. I think three stars for the place. With the hidden fee being a major deterrent. Check in was quick and smooth and the hotel room was clean. However, prior to check out, my husband and I went to eat at their restaurant and upon walk in, there was no host to greet us and sit us down. A waiter walked past us and said hello which is when we asked if we can sit anywhere and he said yes. We sat down and waited for a waiter to approach us with the menu. A waiter came, served us water and left. Again, we still had not received the menus. A different waiter proceeded to come our way with a group of people and sat them down with menus. We then asked him nicely if we can have a menu since we were waiting there longer than the group. The waiter quickly became rude and loud and stated "well you guys just sat there on your own which is why you don't have a menu" We did not expect that type of response as we already asked if we can sit anywhere and someone already served us water, we were just waiting on the menus. All he had to do was bring us a menu but I told him if you don't have customer service then we don't need to eat here and he said okay goodbye. I wish I would've got his name tag to specifically put his name down but overall they need a better format system and nicer workers. Well. Was double charged but eventually was reimbursed for it. But because of that, received a room upgrade and a bottle of Champagne! The room was gorgeous! The view, the bed. I loved it. The location was extremely convenient being in midtown and made everything easy to get to. Staff helped with my issue after being charged twice so at least they were helpful and made up for their mistake. Comfortable and clean, would stay again in a heartbeat! Highly recommend. Good location, within walking distance to landmarks. The staff is friendly and the bistro has fresh food.
