It's actually not all that nice so I don't get the 4 and 5 star reviews but to each their own. This area was once a ferry landing that served the citizens of Williamsburg before it became part of Brooklyn. it was called the 19th century Grand Street Ferry. It transported goods and passengers across the East River to Manhattan. There is a relic of an old smokestack from a long gone molasses plant that used to be here anchoring the park.

It's utterly gorgeous and it's also located next to Industry and old stuff and it's beautiful. They have rejuvenated the area like crazy, and it is the very definition of gentrification you could say. It's next to the Domino Sugar Factory, and the skyline is dominated by that, and you can also look across to the beautiful Lower Manhattan vista. And of course like others said, get splashed by the toxic (not in a hipster way) East River whenever a boat goes by. I love it and it's one of the best to use but there are so many good ones.

Only downside is the stench that emanates from the wastewater treatment plant nearby (since 1952). FYI, for those interested, you can enter a lottery to tour the wastewater treatment plant! Owl's Head Park has a rich and interesting history. Nonetheless, my daughter wanted to have some friends/family celebrate her birthday here. The park is a decent size park, where a lot of people have set-ups for birthdays. A short distance away, they have a play area for the children to do their thing. If you walk up a bit, you can get some nice anemic photos toward the water, during this part of the season, you may spot a cherry blossom tree, or two. Overall, it's a wonderful family oriented park. I'd say if you have children, a dog, a mate who enjoys walking, a couple friends who want a picnic and/or some quiet time, this park would definitely suit your needs!

When you arrive at the "nature walk", you walk down a long concrete path surrounded by walls with little portholes in them, a kind of nautical theme. Then you arrive at the waterfront to an up-close view of a recycling plant, with stories-high piles of aluminum, steel, iron, etc. on the point across the creek. Behind that is Long Island City, not exactly known for its architecture or beauty. But you're on the water, and there's hardly anyone else there. Not bad for a city of 8.5 million. Then you walk down some more concrete paths to an area with markers by the bushes and trees telling you about them. I'm sure it's prettier other times of year, but in mid-April it wasn't impressive. Then it dumps you out in another industrial zone that takes awhile to loop around and get back to civilization. It was worth doing once.

Acreage is 0.25. It is very accessible via MTA NYC Transit 7 train at Lincoln Avenue- 52nd Street subway station which the plaza is mere feet within station. This triangle plaza is named to honor Vincent Daniels, Jr., a Woodside veteran killed in active duty during World War I. There are several benches for resting. We had the pleasure of seeing NY Classical Presents: Shakespeare In The Park "All's Well That Ends Well" at Battery Park during 4th of July Weekend. NY Classical performed this play throughout several NYC Parks from 6/3/25 - 7/6/25. NY Classical performs what they call in an "Immersive Panoramic Theatre-Style". All's Well That Ends Well started at Castle Clinton in Battery Park, & we followed the cast transition throughout other areas while performing scenes in Battery Park. NY Classical moved around Battery Park 3x's before returning to Castle Clinton to end the play. While we moved w/ the cast, people had the option to get comfortable, spread out their blankets or to unfold their chairs to sit, but then before you know it....Time to get up again for the next scene-lol. It really kept me on my toes and I found it to be unique, humorous, interesting & entertaining. Costumes, the NY Classical Cast & their acting was fantastic. nyclassical.org @nyclassical Battery Park has so much gorgeous space to walk around in, it is close to public transportation (several trains) and there is an eatery on the premises as well as multiple local vendors that sell food & souvenirs. It is serviced mainly by the Whitehall St- South Ferry MTA station, allowing visitors (including my wife and me) to arrive via subway, and then connect to the ferry for a Statue of Liberty visit. The site was originally named 'The Battery' around 1683 by the Dutch, to signify the battery of cannons put in the area for maritime protection. It later became commonly known as Battery Park. In 2015, the NYC parks commission formally reinstated the formal name of 'The Battery' to the 25-acre park, to honor the original name. Castle Clinton was opened in the park as an entertainment venue in 1824, then converted into the nation's primary immigration receiving station on 1855 (until 1890, when Ellis Island took over). It later was used as the site of the NYC Aquarium (1896 - 1941). Today, it is the place to board the ferry to go over to Liberty and Ellis Islands, and thus has many visitors passing through it. Entrance into the fort requires passing through security (x-ray and body scanners). Learnt later that that the historical building is a National Monument, dedicated in 1950, and the park rangers offer free guided tours.
