My family and I recently went to Six Flags America for a day of fun. Upon arriving at the park, the line to enter the main gates was quite disorganized and haphazard. However, we eventually entered and proceeded to the water park area since it was such a hot day. We were met with another extreme line of people waiting to have their passes scanned to enter the water area. People were very confused to learn that their entry to the amusement park no longer includes entry to the water park, so it caused us to have to wait for quite some time to enter; this was very inconvenient. Once we were finally inside the water park area, the kids enjoyed the pool and water slides. Throughout our time there, I noticed that many of the food stalls were closed which also caused extreme lines when attempting to buy something like a beverage, food, or snack. I know that lines should be expected when visiting popular parks, but it seemed a little extreme at times. We did eventually end up with pizza; it was okay. I did come across some very friendly staff while there which was appreciated. I do plan to revisit the park since we are season pass holders, but I hope that my next experience is a little better. read more

I've been trying for 2 days to speak with someone in customer service. I'm thinking of buying a 2021 season pass, but I have a few questions before I purchase. Sadly, nobody is connecting with me via online chat; no one is answering the phone; no one has responded to any of my emails, and nobody has returned my voice message. Every time I go through the automated system to get to guest relations, I get an answering machine. One thing I'd like to know is: what are the dates that season pass holders can bring a friend for free? And how often do season pass holders get those free vouchers? read more

Photo-ops: there's always a reliably great photo op right on the main street at the moment you enter from the main entrance, e.g., cast of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, etc. or a pair of coffins for Fright Fest. Besides that, you always can find some dressed-up costume character going around and you would just randomly bump into one of them for a photo op. (Adult) Roller coasters: the Batwing - 5/5 my absolute favorite because it's a lying down as if your flying coaster! the Joker's jinx - 5/5 the swirling, loops! the Superman - 5/5 fast with tall drop! the Fireball - 5/5 loved the vertical 360 loop/spins! the Voodoo drop - 4/5 too short of a ride! the Roar, the Wild one - 3/5 old school wooden coasters are very bumpy and NOT comfortable the Mind Eraser -1/5 they placed VR goggles on us for the ride, which were not properly placed on me, became loosened during the ride and forced me to hold onto it throughout... in the end it even scratched my nose and made me bleed Water park: In total, there's about 9 water slides (with and without floatation tubes), but often there will be a couple not in order or out of service. the Tornado and the Half-pipe are the newer and more unique style of water rides that aren't the generic "go down the tube/slide" The older slides/tubes should be better maintained or at the very least cleaned up because you can see the green grime from the algae/lichen building on the them - which is definitely not a pleasant nor welcoming sight. the killer/crazy drop of the Bonzai Pipelines - dreadfully scary - personally, one of the most intimidating rides of all time for me because once you step inside the tube, you stand there and they seal the door and in seconds the ground below you disappears and you drop from like 4 stories. Fright fest: Twisted Fairy Tales 3D haunted house - longest wait/line because it is the most unique/distinct and most popular. The 3D effects were pretty cool. Voodoo curse - this one definitely caught me off guard and creepy awesome way Terror Toy shop, Haunting of Hall Manor, Aftermath - though they tried, these didn't leave much of an impression * I liked how there were all these "scary" clowns taunting patrons in Gotham city (very befitting) Food: as everyone already knows, the food here is expensive and taste/quality is not what the people come for. Filling a hungry/empty stomach is essentially all that is needed for the folks looking for thrill rides. Parking: $20 for general parking is ridiculous!!! read more

The price is good considering you get water attractions and land in one location . Not too big so you don't get exhausted from walking. The water park was way too crowded for a random Tuesday I'm not sure what day would be a good day to enjoy the water park. The ride lines were a breeze because everyone was in the water. I kinda wish the kids part of the park would have a water section in it for the little ones or at least a splash zone. She loved the kids pool in the Waterpark tho it was so many adults taking up the seats and older kids that were just occupying the space and too big for the kiddie pool. With the amount of people it still must've been a slow day for them most of the game stands were closed and some of the snack areas. Parking was very good and easy. The kids working at the park get a 2stars they weren't friendly at all and would serve patrons out of order in line... that was very frustrating. I wouldn't buy a season pass too many people. The price gouging is incredible here. You won't pay less than $75, because parking is $35. You might as well get the season pass, but why you would want to do this twice in a season, I don't know. The food is ridiculously expensive even for a place like this. The lines for rides were not bad, but the lines for food were ridiculous even though there were only a couple of families ahead of us. And you have to get a meal for $20, which is supposed to include a snack, but they didn't have any snacks at the place we were at. Today was our second time visiting, we paid $50 for 2 tickets and $40 parking. We lasted 30 minutes in the park. Most rides were closed. Our toddler didn't get to ride any rides which was more our fault as we underestimated his height and he didn't meet the 36 inches. What a terrible theme park. Probably the worst within the Six Flags brand. My friend and I decided to come to this one as oppose to our home one, Great Adventure. Big huge mistake. A lot of things were closed the entire day, or kept shutting down. Stores, food places and rides were closed! Mind eraser seemed like a cool coaster. Too bad I'll never know! Every time my friend and I waited on the line and it was almost our turn, the ride got stuck and had to shut down. Batwing also seemed awesome. I'll never know. It's closed for the season! How in the world?! Okay. As far as thrill rides, that leaves ROAR, Joker's Jinx, Ragin' Cajun and Superman. ROAR, terrible. So bad I don't even remember it. Joker's Jinx was okay. I'd give it about a 7/0. Ragin Cajun interesting concept. Lots of hard twists though, but about a 8/10. Superman....the best rollarcoaster at this park. Great high drops and loops. Everything else terrible. Also, whenever my friend and I wanted something or needed help, EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE would say, "it's my first day..." That got annoying after 20 minutes. Oh. How could I forget. You want popcorn? The popcorn stand didn't have any. Ice cream? None of that either. Ice in your drink? Nope, sorry! A lot of the registers weren't working either. If you come here more then 1 time this season then it is definitely worth buying a season pass because I believe a normal day ticket is $30 and if you go twice that's $60 but a season pass is $49.99 which covers the cost of going twice but you can go however many times you want for the season but the only bad thing about this place is that the food is very expensive and the lines for food get very long. I like Six Flags. It's an amusement park and offers some fun to the DMV, instead of driving an hour or two away for something else. There are downsides like the fact that Babysitters Club runs the park and there can be long lines, but get a season pass and come during off peak times. If you really want a quick thrill, grab a flash pass to bypass the foolishness and be on the first car of a ride. They offer Freighfest and now Holiday in the Park-- both are great for season pass holders! read more

Just felt disappointed... I grew up with Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL. Starting with positives: The unlimited food/drink add on. I thought it was really worth the price if you're there the whole day. Employees were helpful and kind throughout the day! Lastly, the Superman ride was very very cool as well. Negatives: For the unlimited meal deal, you aren't able to trade a meal for a snack. I wanted to get the Rita's Italian Ice, I had a meal available and wanted to get a dessert but I couldn't because it wasn't a snack(maybe add the option of a meal OR a snack) There was a small amount of thrill rides. Rides were constantly breaking down. Roar broke down just as I arrived then when it opened and I got to ride it, we all got stuck and closed again. Firebird closed once or twice. ALL WATER RIDES outside of Hurricane Harbor were closed... Huge areas are just empty with the remains of old rides; along with areas closed off for renovations... Flash passes times were inaccurate. I waited 12 minutes for Superman and when I got there, there was no wait so why did it tell me to wait 12 minutes?? Some Hurricane Harbor rides were closed. RipQurl Blaster broke down and had to get maintenance. The water on the tuber rides were FREEZING(at least RipQurl Blast, Tornado, and Paradise Plunge/Reef Runner). Uncomfortably cold. My friend's child was with us, they were shivering and ice cold to the touch. Although, the Lazy River and Hurricane Bay were GREAT refreshing temps! I paid $40 for parking and $90 for flash pass + ticket; $130 for what I experienced was not worth it. It was my first time getting a flash pass as well. My family and I wanted a fun getaway for today. The amusement park and water park are filthy dirty with bees flying uncontrollably around individuals attending the park. It was so bad at the waterpark. I had to buy a cabana for $368 to get away from the swarming bees. The park needs to be cleaned. The smell of trash were everywhere. I spent $700 for a family of 4. In the cabana, I was not given ice and had to ask for the TV to be turned on. This took a while. This was a waist of money. The bathrooms were horrible early in the morning. We got to the park about 11 am and it was in disarray. this means no one cleaned the day prior. I will be filing a complaint with corporate office. The young kids working there seemed very annoyed, with an attitude. read more

The people in the front in yellow shirts scream at guest goers as they enter. When I say scream, I mean like scream scream. Nasty, angry, and hostile. Extremely off putting. I was charged 6.50 for a CUP OF WATER!! And it tasted like tap. Some of the rides aren't accommodating for plus size people when they easily could of had longer seat belts... and I'm not even that large. I've never cried at an amusement park in my life before. The bathrooms were FILTHY with mold in the toilets and feces all over, it hadn't been clean in a long time. MORE than a day. Don't know why all the alcohol was closed down when it was 12pm and 90 degrees out... a frozen drink would have made the experience better. read more

We made the decision to go to Six Flags America as part of a Washington DC trip with our kids. This was a bad decision! First, when you walk in the park, you are met with a lot of buildings that are not kept up and pretty run down. We had a question about our food pass, so we asked three different people and no one could help us or point us in the right direction to get answers. A few of the rides were closed. Also when we paid $175 to get into the park, we find out that you have to pay extra to ride the go carts. The food area in the water park was very understaffed. I had to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes to get refreshments. Very disappointed and probably won't be back. There are other theme parks where we have had a much better time! read more

This place has such potential. It has good foods a decent amount of rides and is close to DC. However literally every ride is breaking down every 15 minutes. I am currently writing this as I wait for the jockers jinx to reopen after being temporarily closed. I have been here since 11 and it is currently 4 and I have only been on 2 rides. I went from Batman to firebird to Batman to Superman and around 20 minutes in the all have broken down and it took around 15 minutes to fix. It would be fine if this happened once or to just one ride but this is every ride and I'm not sure how safe this place is. Six flags needs to fix their rides to operate properly without issue. I grew up going to Six Flags Magic Mountain, and so always had lots of fun on the roller coasters there. After moving to VA, I didn't realize there was one so close to me! ~only 40min. Wanted to do something with my young kids so I came with some friends and their kids to Six Flags America. It was Jan 2nd 2021 and the park was still in the Holiday mode. Tickets were reasonable at $25 and even though the park was not operating at full capacity it was still fun for the kids and I had fun riding the big coasters that were open. I really liked the reindeers flight (best one IMO), firebird, Bourbon Street Fireball (made me laugh a lot). The kids liked the tea cups and small roller coaster in the looney tunes section. All in all it was fun, the food wasn't great but can't expect much. The park did seem on the older side and Sylvester pounce and bounce ride broke right before the kids were about to get on. I would like to come back in the summer and try the other roller coasters once open COVID protocols were masks and they disinfected the rides as well as sit people by party. read more

What can I say--this is a quintessential American theme park (it'll always be Wild World to me! Heh), so expect awesome roller coasters, outlandish food prices (except liquor--the frozen mixed drinks are actually reasonable and generous in terms of alcohol; remember to tip your server!), and a sticky, fun-filled day. Season passes or ongoing memberships are what make this place a good deal, even if you only visit once a season (otherwise, the parking fees are a gip). The live shows, dance routines, and Halloween spooks are hokey but fun (what do you want--the performers are local teens). It's a good time and a fun place. Go on a slow day of the week (Wednesdays) and you will basically have zero-wait lines for the rides. read more

National roller coaster day! I went there when they open at 10:30, finished 10 rides ASAP, and received a special prize cup of all you can drink soft drinks for the first 100ppl who has completed the mission. I was No.94 and almost missed the chance because the superman ride had an issue. I waited there almost 1 hour. I waited for most tides only 10-15mnts tho. It seems they often have issues because of the 3D mask. So we could not use. After 10 rides, my brain was spinning and I felt dizzy. To chill out, I went to the water park. But it was extra noisy. No relaxation. But I'm so satisfied to complete the mission with amazing mates:) Rides: They are not new but good enough. Some of them were shaky and made me worry. Also some of them were too smelly because of many ppl's sweat! Price: Good. My friend have VIP passes and can bring one guest a few times a year. So I didn't pay this time. FYI: beer $7-20 Size: Smaller than Busch Garden in Williamsburg. Maybe as Kings of Dominion. Food: You should not expect healthy ones. I ate brisket and chips. Too much BBQ sauce. I was too hungry to complain then. Customer service: Not good. Some cashiers were super slow because they were joking around. Some staffs did not know about the roller coaster event. Y'all are sleeping on 6 flags! I was there 3.28.21 and I had a wonderful time. They have at least 7 big coasters. I really liked that the lines were small (only waited once!) and the employees were really nice. I docked a point for food. Food is insane here. I paid almost $7 for a bottle of water. Are there better amusement parks than Six Flags America? Yes, plenty. But for your money, experience, location, Six Flags deserves 4 stars. My family has bought season passes for over 15 years. We usually purchase the passes in the fall when Six Flags gives discounts. This past September we paid $59.99 per Gold pass, which includes free parking, normally $20 per visit, early entry to the park and early entry to the water park. I just looked up the price for a season Gold pass at today's pricing $129, $81.99 for a regular season pass. A day pass, one day entry is $59.99. I love the free parking! Not having to worry if I have cash on me for parking is a plus! I've read previous reviews and while I do understand some of their complaints, to me, they are minor. I've never had a bad experience. Yes, lines can be long. But like most amusement parks, you have to get there early. The water park, has something for young and old. A pool for toddlers and babies, a fun interactive water feature for the toddlers to 7/8 year olds. A lazy river, you can just get in your float and float. With some fun splashing going on. The wave pool is fun for all ages. So many water rides for the adventures. There's a kiddie park, and adult rides throughout the park. Superman is my favorite. In the fall, there is Hallowscream. Trails, rides, scary fun houses, men and women dressed up jumping out to scare you. In the winter, there's Winter Wonderland. So for $59 a person, yes Six Flags America is definitely worth it! read more

I pre-purchased our season passes during the sale, and all we had to do was print it out and head straight to the gate. This process took a while, and we had no issues with getting our friends in for the Bring A Friend promotion. I think the season passes, plus the dining plan is an amazing deal. Now, the last time I came to this Six Flags was 17 years ago. I remember standing in line for hours and riding BatWing. Unfortunately, when I visited the park this past weekend, BatWing was closed for the season. I'm definitely a fan of this park and can't wait to ride all of the coasters again, but there were some cons: 1) Line jumping 2) The bees 3) Ride operators seemed to take their sweet time. Although I understand they are exhausted and want to make sure people are safely strapped, but it seemed like they were dragging their feet on purpose. Pros: 1) Friendly staff and Security 2) Plenty of food options We also tried out the Kid Swap on the Joker ride, but the attendants didn't really understand what was going on. They kept trying to measure our children's height, which is a plus for safety! I also want to mention that we went during Fright Night, which means that after 6:00 PM, people in costume like to scare guests and things of that nature. My tiny issue with that is the way the crowd reacts and runs/stampedes through the park. Overall, it was a great trip and I look forward to many trips in the future. read more

This was literally the most pathetic experience of my amusement park adventures. The way the fright fest is advertised online it appears that what you're buying gets to entry into the park and to the fright fest. NOPE. There was an entire line in customer service of people screaming at the agents behind the desk were only one was working and the rest of them were fighting with themselves behind the glass. The freight fest itself was pathetic all of the decorations had fallen over and no one picked them up there was a big blown up cat with big sharp claws and all you could see was his booty sticking at you because he was on his side all the pumpkins had fallen over to their side bc nobody cares who works there. Overall there is a sense of misery with every single employee you working there. My husband begged not to be the one to go inside and buy a bottle of water because he said it was simply too depressing. The entire facility is infested with bees that swarm your children and your face even if you have no food or drink in your hands. If you go to a restaurant they literally climb all over the drink pourspouts and up inside the ice machine. The food is absolutely atrocious I paid $15 for a mini pizza that tasted Like to 7-Eleven Man could significantly improve it if he made it. The candy in the grabbing machines is so old that it's melted onto the plastic and completely inedible so when you pay the fee for your child grab candy it just goes into the trashcan. There was one ride that seemed awesome for my five-year-old and he enjoyed riding the car however the gas pedal was too difficult for him to push so I had to push the gas pedal. Yeah, it gets better there's an indoor play fun center with balls none of the ball launchers work they're all jammed and don't work in the children will come up to you and say don't bother that one doesn't work. So then poor unsuspecting parents try to rescue the entire waste of a day by taking their children to the carnival game section oh joy. It clearly can get worse. The carnival ride games don't actually function. But they wait until you've already paid and straightened your credit card to tell you this so they basically just hand your child a tiny consolation prize and they don't get to play. So then the adults think to themselves I'll get an alcoholic drink to make this whole waste of money experience more tolerable no, besides the bees crawling all over the drink spouts and inside your cup, the alcohol doesn't actually taste like hard alcohol it taste like something worse than Boones Hill Farm poured into the daiquiri mix. The icing on the cake is that about hour and a half into attempting to make this work my five-year-old said can we please just go home! EPIC. read more

It only looks like the swings from the ground! Not only does the thing spin you fast but has the nerve to bring you down half way to take you back up. I recently went with a few friends and was slightly disappointed by how rough some of the rides are. Don't get me wrong- I definitely had a fun time but I was surprised by how uncomfortable I felt on many of the rides. Not sure if it's just the fact that I've aged a few yrs since I last rode rollercoasters or if the rides are rlly old. If you're going with an older age group like I did and are looking for more thrilling rides, then it might be more worth your time and money to make a trip to King's Dominion or Busch Gardens instead. read more

So today I decide to bring my kids and my niece to the water park since it's insanely hot outside. I just signed up for their most expensive membership the Diamond Elite membership. All I wanted to do was sunbathe while the children go on the various water slides and play and there is a special section for diamond elite members. I was turned away and told that I was not allowed in because I did not make reservations the day prior. Lol I did not even know I was coming to six flags as this was an impromptu decision. But the area was nearly empty and to spite paying for the diamond elite membership and having the proper identification for verification the worker would not let me go sit down and sunbathe. You get choice between hamburger or chicken strips and everyone has to get the same thing. Your 8 drinks have to be all at once. You have to do a deposit and won't get your money back if you don't clean up the cabana. So what is my $300 for if all you did was bring me chicken strips? Pool is disgusting food wrappers and ppls lip gloss were floating around in the wave pool. Saw a guy with an open wound on his leg and none of the lifeguards said anything. Everything is OLD and dirty. Don't even get me started on the condition of the bathrooms pee everywhere. Park is just super old n outdated with not a lot of rides. The park is ran with teenagers who are quiet n you can barley hear or just rude. One lifeguard was sitting on a tub just sitting there n ppl had to ask if they can go down the ride? Park was not crowded when we arrived at Noon opening. Rides were okay, most are aged. Best one was Harley Quinn's Spinsanity, and we rode every coaster. Park has a huge yellow jackets bug problem - swarming at trash cans and tables, made it impossible to sit and eat anything, seemed very unsafe and an issue the park could take care of if they want to. OK. Here goes. First time for this middle ager going to a national chain type amusement park, and was so very confused as to the process here. But I survived, and during a HEATWAVE, no less. Front parking lot with cutesy Looney Tunes names for the aisles (don't bother, this lot is full) there is a lot further out back- the plain, No-Names lot. Massive lines of people, so we stood in line for who knows how long in the sun with them. Finally got up to the front, and was told that you FIRST have to go stand in the (other) massive line of people at the yellow house to buy your tickets. Who knows how long we waited in THAT line, and hey, that pink shirt lady was right in front of us...how is she at the cashier window already? Oh yeah...there are only TWO cashiers at the ticket house. So after you buy your tickets, you go BACK to the long lines in the front (for your airport-screener-type bag check.) When you finally get in the gate after HOURS in the blazing hot sun, all you want is a cold drink and a nap. Heck, even condensation from an A.C. unit or drips from a rusty tailpipe sound good at this point. Where are the drinks? Hmmm. We walked around and finally found a little food cart. Got a 20 oz. bottle of lemonade (almost $6) which my daughter and I split (thank God, I only have ONE kid.) I passed on gifts and souvenirs (I paid enough for tickets and lemonade.) Rides: some stuff you'd see at a county fair (the pirate boat) but they had a neat Duesenberg ride on a track, a little Road Runner Roller Coaster, a carousel, the new Firebird (they wouldn't let us go because my daughter was too short) so we did the wooden coaster (Roar?) instead. Costume Looney Tunes characters do photo op's and there are scheduled musical skits with them. There are not enough restrooms, there are long lines and floor is wet (?!) with puddles I guess from people changing out of wet clothes from being in the water features. It's a basic amusement park but the staff definitely needs training on how to provide efficient customer service. The poorly trained staff detract from the pleasure of visiting an amusement park close to home. I think I'd rather go to an amusement park further away and have a peaceful experience than have to deal with the drama of shoulder shrugs in response to a question, disappearing workers, and unnecessarily long lines due to inefficiency. read more

First off, it's not as good as Kings Dominion, but it's closer, so it's the only option. Good luck talking to anyone on the phone if you need help. Their menu is impossible to deal with and every button you press just leads you to an automated message telling you to check the website. If I wanted to try navigating the website, I wouldn't be calling. I'm looking forward to finishing the year so my membership expires and I can be done with 6 flags. read more
