If you know what to expect, this park is great! If you come expecting a real six flags you will be disappointed. This is not a coaster haven, this is a park that is the perfect size for the community it is in. The waterpark is great, some of the rides are great, and the lines aren't bad. I love going to theme parks it's simply a summer necessity. However this is one of my favorites especially because of its location. I am very close so it is convenient for me and my friends to just stop by. The staff is great here and the water park temperature is always terrific! Family friendly, great for small children and elementary age children. Lots of rides for the whole family to enjoy together. Waterpark is inside it and it has a wave pool and lots of water play areas for the kids to enjoy. Bathrooms were very clean because there was always someone in there cleaning it all the time. The price for tickets are a little high, but they're definitely lower than the Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ. Before you purchase them online through the Six Flags website, call your hotel and ask them if they offer a cheaper deal. Ours did and we didn't know that. We went to the Great Escape first and then checked in our Lake George hotel in the evening and that's when we found out we could have got them for 9 or 10 dollars lesser than what we paid for them through the Six Flags website. It's pretty clean. The lines aren't terrible. The admission cost is very reasonable. That said, it is definitely a second-rate park, but worth the cost of admission. We were disappointed that one of the signature rides was closed for half the season, and another had ridiculously slow lines (we gave up twice). Bring your own food, though. It's more expensive to eat at Great Escape than at Walt Disney World. Though the signs warn against line jumping, it's never enforced, partly because how lean-staffed it is. It's interesting how many Eastern European staff they have. That combination probably keeps it affordable. read more

I went to the Great Escape for the first time last weekend and really enjoyed myself! There was a good amount of parking available and the day my friend and I went there weren't a ton of people in the park. Lines weren't too bad and the rollercoasters were fun! This was the first time I'd ever gone on an upside down coaster! The food options were lacking, especially for me as I'm a vegetarian. We got some Papa Johns pizza that was old and soggy and left me not feeling too good afterwards. Overall, it was pretty fun and I look forward to going back next year. read more

We ended up getting a season pass deal during Halloween. It was pretty reasonable. The passes include parking. I also bought the gold meal plan. To me, getting free drinks, lunch, dinner and a snack at any Six Flags makes it well worth it. You need to set your expectations right. It's a small theme park in the Adirondack Park. They make money by selling you things. It makes my daughter and her friends happy when we go and they ride all day long. The water park is a great way to cool off. For me, it's little more than gas to get there with the passes and meal plan. I'm pretty happy with that. read more

So disappointed in the changes. No cash. Only cards! The food is limited and you have order on a phone in some of the spots. Water bottles are 6.00 each!! No napkins, no straws, no lids for other drinks, no paper towels in the bathrooms, 90 degrees outside and we get to be sticky if anything spills. Seats are very limited thru out the park. Really has gone down down down. Buildings closed all over, accommodations really are horrible! And the people with a extra pass are just making some lines an hour long for others. They just keep getting on first in packs of 5 or 7, how can all have an extra 1 ride pass??? Sorry, but sucky place. read more

DISCLAIMER: FOOD REVIEW ONLY So my 6 year old wanted to check this place out and I was totally wiling. I first went on line to check out some reviews since this particular Six Flags is really small. Didn't to go to some creepy, local carnival. It looked okay but everyone was saying how the food is really pricey AND they don't let you bring any food items into the park. If the park isn't going to provide decent food options, they have to let folks bring in whatever they want! I get that Six Flags want to make money, they should but come on! Frozen chicken fingers and frozen pizzas are best you can do?!? And then to nickel and dime me to death about extra toppings because you don't have what I want?!? Everthing was processed, pre-packaged and simply warmed up in a fryer, microwave or oven. Nothing fresh except the salads. Yes, it's somewhat typical of an amusement park but to charge that $11 for a friggin handful of dry ass chicken tenders is insane! I'll bet folks would pay more for better quality and fresher ingredients. Come on dudes, it's 2015! Everyone is upping menus and food quality everywhere! Get with the program and give the people what they want. You can still make money, just market it well and they will come! Just use buzz words like "organic", "farm to table", "range free", etc and you'll be fine (as along as you back it up). Okay rides if you don't mind waiting forever for nothing. While waiting in line prepare to be harassed and touched by various children with no adult supervision. They also have these fast pass like tickets where you can skip the line however what they don't tell you is that those people can take whatever seat they want and you have to keep waiting and waiting until someone decides they don't want to sit in the lane you are in, so avoid the front or back. Just saying I don't think it's worth the $75 you have to spend on tickets plus the $20 on parking and outrageous prices on food. read more

Great Escape is hard to rate objectively. While I was growing up, it was really the only game in town and in a lot of ways, it still is. As far as Adirondack summer escapes go, this one's just OK... Maybe it can be re-branded "OK Escape"? Lines move quickly, but the payoff is slight, with most rides lasting only about a minute. The majority of the park's footprint is devoted to money traps and bland food kiosks designed to milk your pennies with inflated prices. It's definitely possible to get your money's worth out of this place but it will take more than one visit with a multiple entry pass, a reused refillable flat rate drink cup and a lot of restraint. For a one-shot, the price trumps the thrills. read more

Do not get any hats as prizes for playing the games!!!! Maybe this is common knowledge, but it never crossed my mind that the hats would be crawling with lice. At guest services they were nice enough, but so clueless as to try to offer us replacement hats at first instead of just giving us our money back. Now I have to pick through my kids' hair for hours to make sure their dirty hats didn't infest us. BEWARE for Yourself & Loved ones SAFETY! We Took our 5 yr old grandson on vacation here to celebrate his upcoming 6th birthday. We were staying at the lodge. On 7/16/19 he was on the Spruce's Wilderness Bus, sitting in the front seat. I noticed he was crying. Thank you, caring couple who ran up to me to let me know he was crying because he had gotten hurt, as he waved to us they saw his hand was hit a board! I asked the ride operator repeatedly to stop the ride he was hurt. She just looked at me. Now I am shouting for her to stop the ride. My husband physically had to enter the ride from the exit, it was only then that she stopped the ride. I asked her where to get 1st aid. No response from her. My husband got my grandson off and we started looking for help. Thank you to the gentleman working at a booth for calling to get us help! He actually called twice, as for it was taking a long time. The EMT arrived. He started checking my grandson knee? They was blood on his wrist and bruising on his forearm! He had to be told to put an ice pack on the bruising and clean the wound and bandage it. My husband told EMT to get his supervisor. She arrived and asked if him(EMT) if he had done the SOP for this incident. No he hadn't, she had to explain every procedure on what do. Even how to fill out the incident rpt. We were assured someone would contact us and that incident report would be forwarded that afternoon as we requested. SIX FLAGS you need to make sure your employees know how to do their jobs!! Especially all your EMTs! The safety of our children, and all of your visitors should be your up most priority! We left the park and went back to our room at the lodge. We stopped at the front desk to let them know what happened, and wanted to talk to someone in management. She said okay her director was there. A man came out, wrong person. He informed us the Safety Director was there and he would get her. We waited in lobby, he came out and informed us that the Safety Director had called our room and left a message. Went to our room there had been a call but No message was left! Called front desk to get the number. I called back and left message after message to call me back. We spent the rest of the day in the room. I continued calling hoping she would answer! I was an emotional wreck. My husband went to the desk and asked to speak to someone with authority. He was told that they had given the message to that person already, and they should be in touch. I finally left the room. The clerk that we had talked to earlier walked by and asked me if her director had been in contact with us? I told her no and asked for the managers name in which she replied she couldn't give it to me. Now I'm in tears, people around me inquired what was wrong. I told them them what happened, and how we were being ignored. Given the advice to call the police so there would be a record, since we did not receive an incident report. My husband also had been given the same advice earlier in the day, I told him no,I had faith in Six Flags and thought they would do their due diligence, someone would contact us. I am not a person to cause a scene but after being told that I couldn't have the name of the director on duty. I went back to the room. Told my husband to go call the police. He went down to the front desk and asked to call the police, clerk went in back and lo and behold who comes out a director who never contacted us. Now wanting to talk-Unfortunately It took having to call the police. We filed a report with the police. My grandson was complaining about his arm. I went to the front desk and asked where the nearest medical location was. A woman at the desk asked if I was the grandmother, I told her yes. She proceed to tell me that she was the Safety Director,( the one I had been calling all afternoon) and that she was home giving her child a bath when they called her back into work. I was flabbergasted that she would even say that to me. My grandson was injured. You are the Safety Director and ignored me for hours! Maybe if you had done your job, they wouldn't have had to call you back into work. I told her there was no message and I had left her numerous messages. We left the next morning, no one asked how My grandson was. I was handed our bill for a very expensive vacation that turned out to be a nightmare!!! Not the birthday celebration for my grandson we had planned. My grandson was hurt and very upset, me an emotional wreck! Thankfully we found a wonderful motel in the area! I have tried to numerous times to get in touch with the Safety Director, and also have left message, after message! As of today 8/13/19 I still haven't received the incident report, nor has anyone contacted me! read more

With a little intervention, the experience they provide here could be so much better. The park itself is fine IMO, a good variety of rides, a good layout, priced about what you would expect for a theme park like this. Staying at the lodge is a decent deal ($280 all in for a night stay which includes access to the main 2 parks and the smaller indoor park in the lodge). What kills the experience is the rampant mismanagement, especially when it comes to wait times. There is clearly no one who is paying any attention to this, and spending a 90 degree day at the park and having to wait in line for close to an hour for every ride isn't fun for anyone. While waiting in line is to be expected at a theme park, the lengthy waits are entirely preventable for most of the attractions, especially the water rides. On at least 3 of the rides the main cause of the slow lines was that there were not enough rafts. The previous riders will have cleared the slide but the next group would have to wait a minute or more for the raft to make its way back up the conveyor belt. How can they not have more than 2 rafts per slide? They also rarely seem to marry groups to fill empty slots and send rides off with empty seats as opposed to taking a second to find a party that could fill the empty seats which also slows down the line. On 2 of the slides where there were multiple slides at the top, some were not being used as they said they didn't have anyone to attend to the slides. In all of the above cases it just seems that there isn't anyone responsible for ensuring the park is running smoothly. Disney or Universal Studios will service many, many times the volume of people per ride than this location does, yet they manage to keep wait times down, and the experience is so much better because of it. IMO, with more focus on the guest's experience this could be a much more fun place to visit. Lastly, while I expect that them park food is going to be overpriced and poor quality, and 6 flags lives up to that, charging $6 for a 20oz bottle of water goes beyond the typical gauging that I expect from theme parks. read more

This amusement park used to be Storytown, U.S.A., and the rides that I went on, are the Comet, and the merry-go-round. It also has a section that has a floating bridge to walk on, and lots of gift shops to go into. There is also a live band performing polkas, and waltzes. The pink whale is also existing. read more

Overpriced? Yes Theme park is just ok same with the Water Park. But if you have any issues with the service or staff, good luck trying to get a response. You can email a complaint and the confirmation says it could take up to a week to get a response, but usually quicker. I have still never received a response from them. I have now read similar assessments on other sites reviews of them. There are many entertainment alternatives out there that have far better customer focus. Unless you are local and have few choices, you should travel a different direction to spend your hard earned money. read more

Great little park for sure. Doesn't have the super big boy thrill rides, but definitely has enough decent thrill rides. We didnt do the water park, so i can't comment on that. But for a smaller version of great adventure, this place is great. Very clean. Only reason why it's not 5 stars is because the rides are on the short side. I get why it is that way. Other than that, we can't wait to go back. We went on a monday, and basically had no wait time whatsoever on any ride. 10 minutes the most at sasquatch. Great escape is a perfect name for this place. It was ok. Took an hour to buy tickets, 2 people working the ticket booth in the middle of summer. Not good. $20.99 for a refillable cup? Are you crazy?? Some of the ride operators were nice, most couldn't be bothered. The food is way overpriced and not that good. Speaking of food, all the food kiosks had 1 person working. Lines were super long for food. I rented a cabana for the day, it was ok. My issue here was I was told I could get into the cabana at 10:30... oh no, 12:00 when the water park opens. Water park is only open to 5, such a waste. The lines move way too slow for having multiple operators at each ride. If you are going be prepared to spend hundreds of dollars for a day. The rides weren't bad, but pay the extra money for the Fast Pass so you don't have to wait on line. Yea, the other guests give you dirty looks and complain, but you should have paid the extra money to skip the lines. Overall, I would not go back. It was way overpriced for what you get.... so disappointing honestly. I gave it 2 stars because my son loved the rides, he's a roller coaster junkie. read more

This park is great for what it is, which is a place for families with kids. My kids loved the water park, there were plenty of rides they were big enough to ride, and because it is geared towards families, there were no marauding hordes of drunken 20 year olds causing problems. I was thrilled to find the Bobsleds, which was my favorite ride at Great Adventure, back in the mid 80s had been transplanted here. I was also thrilled that my kids liked it as much as I did. We came during heroes week, and thought it was very cool that Six Flags takes such good care of law enforcement, civil servants and military. Over all,we had a great time and I would definitely recommend it to families with kids up to their mid teens or so. read more

I agree with many of the other reviews on how expensive it is. The worst are the food prices and they can make things especially tight for a family. If you can get past that, I feel like the park is pretty fun for any age. Part of the the park is Loony Toon themed, which is great for younger kids. They also have roller coasters and other rides, which are great for teens to adults. Their water park, Splash Water Kingdom, is pretty fun. Also, great for all ages, they have a wave pool, water slides, "water playgrounds", and a lazy river (my favorite). The park may have gone slightly downhill since Six Flags bought it, but I'd still recommend it. read more

Luckily I got $40 tickets for my son and I on Groupon. Once we entered the gate we went to Timber Town. My son wanted to ride the Mine train. He was one inch too tall. In order to ride he would need to bring someone else under 54". Meanwhile it was 10am and we were the only ones there. My son is 8 and doesn't like thrill rides . And he is too big for kiddie rides. So we spent most of our time in the wave pool which closed every 30min. I could have saved a lot of money and spent the day at the hotel pool. I reiterate what everyone else says. This place is a money grabbing ripoff. I felt like I was at a Yankees game without the excitement. Places like this just make me realize how great Disney world really is. read more

Great Escape is a small Six Flags park in Queensbury, New York, and is often ranked at the bottom of the Six Flags List. In my personal opinion though, I'd say this park is fine. It has a decent atmosphere, good staff, and short wait times. My only problem though is that the rides are really outdated and not well maintained. A lot of the rides here are either bad or mediocre. The few exceptions though, include Comet (a classic, airtime filled wooden coaster), An indoor Scrambler named Blizzard, and a Drop tower named Sasquatch. The other problem with the rides is that are poorly run. Steamin Demon is a terrible coaster with lots of head banging throughout. Also, rides tend to break down often. When I went in June of 2017, only half of the coasters were open all day. Really hope this park does something great in the future, but honestly, I don't think it will ever happen because it's Six Flags, who pays attention into the larger, more well-known parks. Other than that though, I'd say Great Escape is an alright park for families, but not a place worth driving more than a few hours to get to. read more

This park charges six flags prices even though the park itself is tiny. 7$ for a small slice a pizza! Not a whole lot to do after a few hours for the kids. Rides were boring and service was terrible. Staff working there weren't friendly at all and were more interested in talking amongst themselves then serving us. My biggest grip was that after we waited out a 2 1/2 hour rain storm and the weather had just cleared up that's when they decided to announce that they were closing the park two hours early. Nearly every review here mentions the expense. Indeed, Great Escape is not cheap for any size family. Me? I'm wondering where the money goes. You'll find this park not far from Lake George, one of America's most beautiful lakes. Great Escape would seem the perfect attraction for a family vacation to the Adirondacks. But the park is older and shows the years. Adults pay $54 for admission (kids $44); so I would expect better upkeep of the property. There are parts of "Storytown" (it's original name) that are much as it was when I was a child 40 years ago. But, many of the buildings show wear and tear; and the grounds need better caretaking. To be fair, what's not going into Six Flag's pocket, has been sunk into updated rides. It's a good variety for kids young and old. We loved "The Plunge", and the many choices of roller coasters. My 4 year old loved "TimberTown" -- the section of the park for the youngest kids. She hit every single ride. And the actors at the Storytime Theatre really put their heart into it and involved the kids. My daughter made it on stage and loved all of the attention. Certainly, both my kids wore a smile all day long. It wasn't hard to find park staff, who were very courteous. Nearly all working at Great Escape put real effort into it and put focus on the kids. But, wow the food was horrible. We spent $41 for lunch. Fine. But,we're talking hospital cafeteria grade. Certainly, this is a problem is a problem that management should remedy. I'm also saddened that in a region as rich in history as this one, Great Escape couldn't honor local heritage and show off some of its character. Alas, you could put this amusement park nearly anywhere. Luckily, you can find that charm and character not too far outside the gates of the park. Save the treats for after you leave Great Escape and make your way to "Martha's" for soft Ice Cream -- just a quarter mile from the park entrance. (Look for the big chicken.) This is another one of those places that we can't skip whenever we holiday in LG. Our kids look forward to it all year. Some of our favorite rides are the funnel water slide, the rough-river ride, the diving show, the boomerang, the Sasquatch, and the log water-rollercoaster. The extreme supper nova, which they added in 2014 is much smaller than it looks on the picture! But it is still a nice ride. The lines for the rides are usually not too bad. I would say they are about 10-15 minutes on average which is much better than at some of the other theme-parks like Disney. Normally, at the end of the day, just before closing, the kids can pick a favorite ride and just do it as many times as they want because there is no line at all. Our kids must have done the Sasquatch about 7 times before we headed home. One of the gripes I have about this place is that they do not allow you to bring in food. And they really check your bag when you go in. The food inside is not very good or healthy and what we've been doing is to park at one of the close-by parking spots and going outside of the park to eat our lunch in parking lot (bring a picnic blanket because the grass is itchy!). We also never do any of the things that cost extra money like the slingshot or the arcades because it is an expensive day. The only exception is the quarters we spend on shooting water on the people in the rough water and log roller coaster. This is great fun. Just make sure you can run away fast before the people you got wet get off the ride :-) read more

This park was terrible. I knew not to expect Six Flags New Jersey or New England but a lot of rides were closed and the employees couldn't care less about the people in the park. It's dirty and I wouldn't recommend this park to anyone till it gets some TLC. Don't spend the money unless you already have a season pass and have some time to kill. We spent roughly $200 on tix for four people and $20 for parking and a good deal of the rides weren't operating. In addition today was VERY warm and again a great deal of the water slides weren't open. Spending $220 just to get in the door and then drinks and snacks etc EVERYTHING should be up and running. Membership customer service stinks-I joined last summer for myself & 3 grandkids. We never got an actual membership card-just basic day use type. Trying to get anyone locally, 800 # or online is impossible. I even wrote a letter & sent it via snail mail requesting to get new actual badges & no one ever got back to me (still to this day-over 7 weeks later) While at the park, staff was clueless was included in my membership (such as discounts, bypassing long line etc.) I bought dipping dots while one child was on a ride & when I went to buy dipping dots for that child I was told NO discount, since ONLY 1 discount @ day. Seems like staff not trained at park policies. I brought some guests one day for the $9.99 special. I could NOT get them online-after many attempts. When I went to he park that day-I was told to wait in member's line, then they had us all move to regular line-then back to membership line/ window.
