After 14+ hours of travel and an excruciatingly long wait in the rental line at Porto Airport, our adventure with Sixt began--a prelude to what would become a masterclass in frustration. Imagine, if you will, over an hour spent in line, not for a thrilling theme park ride, but to be greeted by a single, overwhelmed employee who treated the rental process with the same enthusiasm one might reserve for watching paint dry.
Upon picking up our chariot, a white Ford Puma, we were met with a display of scratches that seemed to whisper tales of adventures past. However, any attempt to document these noble scars was brushed off with a cavalier, "It's just the usual wear and tear, nothing to fret over." Oh, how naive we were to believe such sweet nothings. Hindsights Red Flag #1
Our shuttle driver, who was the only delightful one of the bunch, doubling as a reluctant magician, conjured the keys from thin air behind the desk of and hurled them in our direction, urging us to embark on our journey without so much as a nod towards a standard inspection ritual. I guess they don't do that here is what we thought, it was here we missed our second cue to flee from this farce. Hindsights Red Flag #2
Upon returning the vehicle--which we treated with the care of a newborn, avoiding even the slightest of blemishes--our friends at Sixt unveiled their pièce de résistance: a high-tech flashlight, capable of uncovering damages invisible to the mere mortal eye. With the flourish of a pen, they transformed our trusty steed into a veteran of demolition derbies, citing three minor scratches as evidence of our supposed negligence.
Despite our protests and recounting of the initial oversight, our concerns were met with a wall of indifference thicker than the plot of a daytime soap opera. Only presented with promises of checking past records, then only to be replaced by a bill so inflated, it threatened to lift off into the stratosphere a few days later.
In the days that followed, our requests for the promised proof were met with the warmth and understanding of a brick wall, our pleas echoing into the void, only to be greeted by a heartless PDF, coldly stating, "don't care, here's your bill."
It is my solemn duty to warn you, dear reader, to arm yourself with the diligence of a detective when dealing with this establishment. Insist on a thorough inspection at the dawn of your rental period, lest you find yourself entangled in their web of deceit, or better yet, avoid these scammers like the plague.
But let me be clear: this Sixt location seems less like a branch of the reputable company we believed it to be and more like a den of scammers wearing the skin of Sixt to lure unsuspecting travelers into their trap. Avoid at all costs, and should you ever cross paths with a white Ford Puma bearing the mark AS-28-VL, remember our tale and don't let them pin these three minor scratches on you also. read more
