It requires the Uber driver to drive all the way around and the up because of the hills. The cost is still cheap, but I do feel bad. The service here is impeccable. Everyone is nice and helpful. The rooms aren't super grand, but that shower room is by far the biggest one I have visited. Love the water pressure and the feeling of the place. The hallway between the rooms is wide and that makes it being noiseless - unless you are on the first floor. Then you have to deal with cars driving by. Hope you don't get those rooms. Unfortunately I did. I ignored most of it since I was dead tired. I was staying here while the national soccer team took the whole third floor so the executive lounge was pushed to the lobby. It's a relaxing area, but no views . The location is close to the wineries and walkable across the bridge to the city. It's not a bad walk if you're okay with inclines. Love the place. The breakfast area is huge. They have an omelette station and they have 5 types of juice, sparkling wine, and sausage, and bread, and bacon, and fresh fruits. They have a good selection for breakfast. I am sure you'll have a good fill up before heading out.

Porto is very hilly so walking up and down streets and stairs all day does a number on your back and legs. There's a spa in the hotel that's included it's a hidden sanctuary a warmed pool, dim lights, soothing music, a Turkish bath type steam room, a sauna and comfortable recliners to lay on. I spent a lot of time in the Turkish bath type steam room, there are a couple of cold water shower heads to cool you off if it gets too hot. I loved that it got that hot that I had to cool myself down a few times. I needed that heat to sooth my sore muscles. Also the water pressure in the hotel is great! The waterfall shower head was just that felt like a waterfall on your head! So lovely. The rooms ore nice and modern. Breakfast was included which was ok. There's a large variety nothing really stood out as very special but the fruits were nice and ripe and there were a bunch of different pastries. To find the spa you need to find elevator 8 and take it to -1 they open at 9am and close at 8pm. I lost track of time and they had to tell me it was closing.

Skip the hilly hike with a scenic cable car ride…read more Teleférico de Gaia is a gondola cable car route down along the hillside of Vila Nova de Gaia from the upper terrace by Dom Luis I Bridge. It features a colourful view of historic Porto across the Douro River. We paid €9 pp for a return ticket for efficiency rather than hiking between these viewpoints after landing & touring historic Porto and walking across the famous bridge. After a walk down a tunnel, the gondola ride-on system from the top is efficient like a ski lift. The ride itself is only around five minutes each way, but those five minutes gives you panoramic views of the Dom Luis I Bridge, the Douro River and Porto hillside neighbourhoods. At the bottom, we found a lively waterfront with music, wine patio, street vendors and Mercado Beira Rio. The ride back from the lower cable car station took much longer due to the lineup heading back in the late afternoon. As we ate dinner, we noticed a few cable cars still operating at sunset past the posted 6pm closing time for the perfect golden hour view across the Douro River. Skip it or hit it? It's worth the view & quick journey but be prepared to lineup at peak rush.

There are also some nice little vendors at the top of the hill by the park where the gondola station is especially a great vendor who was serving some insane delicious lemon gelato from a street cart. You also are a short walk away up top from the bridge that you can take some awesome photos of the city and riverside area. Here's the deal, this will cost you a bunch of Euros so unless you're young and hardy and don't mind a long ass walk or aren't averse paying for a taxi to go up to the top, this is probably a good option if you want to save some energy or time or save any older people or kids in your party from a long walk.
