Clown show of a car rental company. I prepaid for my car but agreed to pay for the gas ahead of time at the counter. I was told it would be $46.90 to prepay the gas. Works for me. I was charged $58.69, about $12 more than I should have been. I left review with the company and expressed my displeasure, and I was emailed the next day by Chloe, a general manager. I sent her proof that I was clearly overcharged and her response to me was that the extra $12 was "tax." First, what? $12 tax on $46? Also, why wasn't the tax included in the charge? Will never do business with this disreputable company again. Also, their cars suck. The car I was in had the most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat in. We recently rented a car from Sixt and upon return, they accused us of causing a 2" scratch on the lower left passenger door, which we did not do. See attached photo.They are trying to charge us $1278 for this tiny scratch. We have contacted 2 "managers" at the airport location and they were no help at all. We refuse to pay and it has now gone to collections. After the fact, I noticed in our paperwork that Sixt acknowleged that there were already 6 very minor issues with the car, most of them were scratches around 2" in length. Flight got in at 11:30pm and I got to the desk right at 12am only to find it closed. I tried to call ahead to make sure someone was at the desk, but there's no local phone number (just a hotline). So I ended up Uber-ing to the hotel and then back the next morning. When returning the car, the attendant claimed that I had damaged the car with a small scratch on the door. When I later checked my pickup paperwork, that scratch was clearly documented as already existing. I tried to call the desk, but was told by the hotline that I couldn't call directly and that the problem was "out of their hands" even at the call center, since claims was already processing a damage claim. I tried emailing the claims department, only to receive a stock email ignoring my documentation and saying that they still expected me to pay them anyway. I'd avoid Sixt at all costs. read more

BEWARE: Hidden Fees and Unfair Damage Claims I want to share a deeply disappointing experience with Sixt so others can avoid what we went through. We recently rented a vehicle from Sixt. There was no walk-around inspection or photo review at pickup or drop-off, both times it was completely dark, and no employee was present. Days later, Sixt contacted us claiming we owe $1,000 for a 5-10 cm scratch they "found" after the fact. We know with absolute certainty that we did not damage the car in any way. The alleged mark is the kind of faint surface scuff that could be buffed out with rubbing compound for under $10, yet Sixt is treating it as major body damage. For context, I've rented exclusively from Hertz for over 20 years and never experienced anything like this. Hertz and other reputable companies conduct transparent inspections and do not charge for small cosmetic scratches. I chose Sixt this time because their rate was lower and while facing a personal move while we are also in a government shutdown and not receiving paychecks, I mistakenly chose what I thought was a more economical option. A decision I now regret completely. The "cheaper" price turned out to come with hidden fees and questionable post-rental charges. Thankfully, my insurance is stepping in to handle the claim. The AmEx team told me they hear frequent complaints from their members about similar issues with Sixt, which says a lot. They said that they use an AI tool to scan for damages and that it is possible that the AI assessment can vary greatly depending on the light and angel of the tool they are using. Hertz doesn't even charge for small scratches or small dents. In short: ·       No inspection or documentation process at pickup or return. ·       Surprise $1,000 damage claim for a superficial scratch. ·       Multiple hidden charges (even for adding a spouse as a second driver). ·       Customer service that feels completely one-sided and unaccountable. I understand Sixt is still building its U.S. presence, but this experience has permanently damaged my trust and I hope by sharing my experience I can shield others from being similarly taken advantage of. I'll be returning to Hertz, where transparency, fairness, and professionalism still mean something. Recommendation: Avoid Sixt unless you want to spend weeks disputing charges for damage you didn't cause. While I've had positive experiences at other Sixt locations in the past, the Albuquerque Airport Sixt fell miserably short. After reserving a compact, I was "upgraded" to a Mini Cooper, as they did not have any economy/compact cars left on the lot. I'm not even sure why they would offer a Mini Cooper at an airport location, as everyone normally arrives with luggage and Mini Cooper's trunk can barely accommodate one medium size suitcase. In a classic bait-and-switch, the desk then offered another "upgrade", albeit for an additional $15/day. Rather than do the right thing and offer a free upgrade because they planned poorly and did not have the car I booked weeks ago, they resorted to quoting fine print of the agreement of what I "actually" booked. The attitude of the woman at the desk only made things worse, as I eventually elected to cancel the reservation altogether. Sixt just lost a previous loyal customer! Do yourself a favor and avoid Sixt and book through the other dozen rental car vendors at ABQ Airport. read more

First of all they didn't have the car we agreed to in the booking. Snow was expected and we wanted all wheel drive. We had to pay for an expensive upgrade to get another model that had all wheel drive. I returned the car and was later informed by email that there were scratches on the bumper. No damage happened to this vehicle while I had it. I usually take careful pictures of a vehicle before I take it out but we were late and I forgot this time. This whole damage thing seems like a scam to me. This was the second time I used Sixt. Had no issues the first time (different city). I will not be using them a third time. HORRIBLE!!!! DO NOT RENT FROM THESE SCAMMERS. Took a chance on this rental company even though we had never heard of them. Prepaid for the rental for our trip that was back in December of last year (about 9 months ago). My husband is meticulous when renting cars. He always circles the vehicle taking pictures of any and all damages. This time was no different. Took pics of various dings and scratches, and uploaded them to their portal. When it comes time to return the car, the lady inspecting the car starts pointing out said damages. We explained that they were already there when we picked the car up and that we had uploaded them to their portal. She tries to say they didn't get them (even though when we uploaded them a confirmation screen came up staying they were successfully uploaded). Fine. We show her the date/time stamped photos from his phone with all of the damages she was trying to claim we made. She says ok, acknowledges that they were there already, and signs off on the car. So we think that's the end of it. Fast forward to this week, my husband runs his credit because we're looking to buy a car. It's significantly lower than it should be. So he gets his credit report, and find out that these absolute FRAUDSTERS claimed we damaged the car anyway, but instead of charging the card they had on file or contacting us in any way, THEY SENT IT TO COLLECTIONS! Nearly $900 in damages, all of which are things we took pictures of and uploaded to their app, brought to their attention both when checking out and returning the car, and that they signed off on. There was no lines for the Sixt car rental when we arrived, that's a first, how fantastic is that. $500 hold on the car until you return the car. The car doesn't look bad, some scratches on the back is all. Lori was nice and helpful too. We returned the car with a full tank today and the guy checking the cars in checked off that it wasn't a full tank and as such we are being charged $150 charge for having a full tank. Not cool. We have been trying to get customer service, but no dice. My husband wanted to go back and track down the guy but I didn't want him to be late and miss our boarding. Make sure you get a picture of your tank showing a full tank and make sure you get something recording that the intake guy / girl indicates your full tank if you have filled it and get their name as well. Where to begin? I will start by saying this is the 2nd and absolutely last time I will get scammed and ripped off by Sixt. The first experience was a rental in Puerto Rico where, long story short, I was triple charged for a car rental. Obviously, a person wouldn't need to rent the same car 3 times on a trip, right? I fought with them for the reimbursement on the 2 extra charges and got nowhere. Ended up paying since they were not willing to budge. They threatened to ruin my credit multiple times. I took this up the ladder as far as I could. No resolution except to pay. August 2021. I should have learned my lesson, but the pricing for our last emergency trip was on point through Expedia. I booked the rental in December 2024. I purchased the insurance through Expedia's app. When we arrived at Sunport, Albuquerque, to pick up the car, all seemed normal. The lady at the desk was nice, but she definitely failed to be informative. I thought it was odd that she kept telling me to buy the highest cost insurance they have. Something seemed off about her pressure there. I thought maybe they would get a spiff or a commission for up sales. Ok, so she never explained anything about doing any sort of inspection or walk around on the vehicle. The car was brand new. 7000 miles ish. She handed me the keys and said, " it's out in the yard over there." And just pointed. I was already annoyed due to the fact that she couldn't even tell me which way to walk. I ended up pushing the panic button on the FOB to find it. Well, I did do a quick glance over the exterior. I noticed some scratches on the driver's side rear bumper. I thought nothing much about this. Seemed like normal wear. We returned the car the next day. I didn't say anything about the scratches. I assumed they knew about them because the person before me had done this or someone else. All of a sudden, I received an email from Sixt. They now are blaming me for the scratches! I wrote several emails explaining the situation and how I am not responsible since I didn't cause the damage. I spoke with a guy in the damage claims department, and I explained everything. I even went as far as asking him to pull up footage from the lot that would show that the damage was already there prior to my rental. He was so rude. Unwilling to listen or assist in any way. He refused to do anything about this. His response was, " you signed saying there was no damage, and you should have done a walk around." I expressed that I was not verbally informed of this. He said, " That is unfortunate for you Sir" I asked him to resend the pictures of the damage. He refused to do so. He said "pay the $733.00 or you will go to collections". I am very frustrated at this point. I paid the invoice but, fully knowing that I did not cause the damage, I decided to try and get some sort of reimbursement from Expedia since I did have their insurance. No response from them either. The whole situation is a setup. I believe the damage occurred in their lot. I believe the lady at the counter on January 8th, 2025, knew about the damage. The way she basically begged me to buy the biggest policy was so odd. Makes sense due to the fact that the previous renter was not held responsible, according to the guy on the phone, and I am 10000% that I did not cause the damage. I am asking and expecting someone higher up to call or respond to this review immediately for some sort of resolution. Even though I paid, that is not an admission of guilt. I did so to avoid having Sixt destroy my 825 credit score. 2 separate insurance policies, and I still had to pay $733.00??? For damage that I did not cause. Come on! I made a reservation with SIXT through Expedia that I had to cancel almost immediately due to miscommunication. SIXT (the national company, not the local one) stole $100 from me for reserving a car for less than a day that I wasn't even supposed to pick up for nearly a month. They lost no money but they lost any future business from me. You can bet I will tell my friends. Why they would rip someone off like this when my cancelled reservation cost them nothing is just bad business. Expedia tried to recover my money for me but were told that SIXT wouldn't give it back. On day two of my rental, I received a notification on the dash that the brakes were faulty and it needed to be brought to a service center immediately. Upon scrolling through old notifications, it looks like there had been warning errors for seemingly multiple days or even weeks, but they were clearly not addressed in between rentals. When I called their service center, I was told that since I was too far away from the rental location, my only recourse was to bring it to an auto body shop myself. I requested a callback from someone else and never received it. Instead, days later a $50 voucher appeared in my inbox. When I returned the rental car at the end of my reservation, with luckily no issues of the brakes failing, I was told by the manager that I would be issued a two day refund. Two months later, I have still not received that refund and was told by the company that since they issued me a $50 voucher, I was no longer eligible for a refund. Of note, I did not ask for a voucher and haven't used it. Renter beware. They could in theory give you a car with faulty brakes and do nothing about it. And then when they try to make things right with you and promise you a refund, they will lie about that too. read more

She gave us a variety of car options even during the holiday ski season. Sonia checked the car in upon return and was quick, cheerful, helpful and did the check in thoroughly. I had a last minute business trip to New Mexico and National Rental who is always my first choice for car rentals was unfortunately sold out. I walked to the Sixt counter and the customer service was absolutely wonderful. The rep was kind and personable. She had two cars left, I reserved one and I went to the parking lot. When I got to the parking lot I was given the most beat up rental I've ever had. I mean dings and scratches galore. The sun cover was hanging on one side by a thread as well. The car had about 37,000 miles on it. Biggest issues: 1. They send an email which in the fine print states that you are to document the damage before you leave the facility. I didn't see the email until I got to my hotel several hours later. 2. When I dropped off the car I requested a printed receipt for expense purposes and they can't print a receipt. You are forced to receive an email which I was told would arrive within the hour. I called the next day, but was directed back to the website which didn't recognize my reservation number so I waited. The receipt arrived today....2 weeks later. Would NOT recommend. Will NOT return. read more

Two days after getting home I received an email saying, "they missed a 10 cm dent, no paint damage" and will be following up to evaluate a statement for me. I rented a BMW 5 on 6/8/24. When I retrieved the car (alone), I noticed several scratches and chips on all the rims. When I was leaving the lot, I told the attendant at the gate and she told me not to worry about it. Feeling uneasy about this, I pulled over to take photos and contacted SIXT via email about the preexisting damage. On 6/10/24, I returned the vehicle. I did a walk around with an employee and also told her what had happened when I picked up the car. She said not to worry about it, the car is in good condition, and had me sign that it was returned fine. Today, 6/19/24, I receive an email about damage to the rims and that I may be potentially charged. They asked to explain the situation, which was previously done when I rented the car. I emailed back and attached photos and email correspondence. I am waiting to hear back from them. According to their Facebook page, there are tons of people experiencing the same thing and it seems this company is trying to blame people for damages they did not cause, and after the fact. This seems to be a scam at this company. *Update- After filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General in my state, I have received an email stating I am not responsible. DO NOT do business with this horrendous company. The BBB has received over 600 complaints in the last 12 months about them. read more

Worst car rental experience possible. We got robbed in Sixt parking lot in Florence Italy. We came to get married and got to the airport rental car terminal. Sixt had our van right out front. We dropped our bags in the van and locked it. We walked back to the counter to notate some scratches on the van. We never even put the key in the ignition. When we came out two minutes later the window was broken and my wife's purse was gone. It had our wedding rings, other expensive jewelry, passports, wallets and a bunch of other belongings in it. It happened in Sixt's lot right in front of their office in the spot they had the van parked and did absolutely nothing about it. A few days later we got a letter from them saying this has never happened before. The lot was well lit and there were people around. Maybe an inside job, can't be sure but what is sure is I am done with Sixt. Rented a BMW 2 series for a weeklong road trip from Denver and returned to the ABQ location. While the $410 one-way fee seemed expensive, every other rental company was sold out for our dates, so we went with Sixt because they didn't appear to be overbooking reservations like H*rtz and Av*s were doing. Happy to report that our entire experience was smooth. Returning the car at 9pm, we were met with an attentive staffer who inspected the car and sent us our way in under 10 minutes. Later in the evening we realized that we left some personal belongings in the car, and the next day the staffers at the counter were friendly and helpful, especially the manager Daniel who went above and beyond to track down our stuff. This was our first experience with Sixt in the U.S. and we would not hesitate to recommend the company to our friends and family. read more

The time due for my car for the two day rental was 10 pm. I turned mine in after 9, but well before 10. I left the keys in the drop box. A few days later, SIXT charged me for an extra day of use for the car. I emailed them back, clarifying that nobody was there to receive it, so I dropped the keys (as instructed) in the black drop key box. Nobody read the email, they charged me anyway. Days later, they wrote me back, asking for EVIDENCE that I'd turned the car in on-time, completely questioning me as a customer. I gave them an Uber receipt from my hotel to the airport the next day, as the car rental place was so close to my hotel, I walked back that night and took an $8 uber instead of paying $50 for another day of rental car for a 6 am flight. SIXT said that uber receipt was no good as evidence, and me sending that should be completely unnecessary, as I'm not in charge of SIXT's accounting for cars turned in on time. Someone didn't do their job. I called SIXT, waited on hold a long time. Spoke with customer service. After a long conversation, he said the charge would be removed within 24 hours and that I would receive a call from the ABQ Sixt office within 24 hour to make amends on top of removing the charge. SIXT never called. SIXT never removed the charge. I had to call my credit card company to have it removed. These people are unprofessional and not too friendly. You never blame the customer when you fail to do your own job. Checking the turned in car keys on the hour isn't my job, it's offensive as a customer to be questioned when you did everything right. This place is a legit scam. I've never had issues renting at different places from the airport car rental place before. This was an entirely draining experience. PLEASE DONT RENT A CAR FROM HERE. This is my experience. My husband is out of town for work for the 4th of July weekend. He rented a car for me through Expedia. He paid the full cost up front on the credit card rather than having me pay when I get there. The car was scheduled for pick up at 6:30p after I got off of work. I was able to get out earlier and tried to contact them to see if I could pick up early. Their phone is an automated system and you can't speak to a live agent whatsoever. You get hung up on after going through the choices. They say to visit the website and then hang up. This is incredibly frustrating. I contacted Expedia to see if I could do it though them but they said Sixt would not allow changes to the reservation. Okay fine. I waited till 6:30 to go pick up the car. I was denied because I didn't have a credit card. I told them we had already paid online and that I did not have access to my husbands credit card because he was out of town. I was basically told I was SOL. I went home and was able to find 2 more credit cards. A master card with my maiden name and a Visa card. I show up and am told that they can't take the master card with the maiden name. I present the visa and they can't take that either. I swear it felt like the guy at the front was hired just to deny people!! I was so upset. I've already Ubered 3 times to get this resolved!! There's no working with you, nothing. Absolutely terrible customer service. I contacted Expedia to see if we could cancel without penalty because at this point I've tried every available method and it's not being accepted. Expedia was not able to refund me or remove the penalty fee. How is that fair business?? They told me I had to contact Sixt directly, but the problem is how do I do that when their system is automated??? This place is a scam. No one at counter when I arrived. Waited for 10 minutes while I tried calling THEIR ONLY NUMBER... 1-888. Agent finally came out looking like she just woke up. No online access so she was essentially in the dark as to my rental. She noted my frustration as I was on a timeline to pick up the car and proceed to my appointments so she upgraded my car. Nice BMW X5 . I received a call the next day from a friendly manager who needed my credit card data. He helped me upgrade my coverage as there are NO SPARE TIRES. He informed me that a new tire would be $1200 !!! So I got the full coverage. Return was quick and the team was respectful. My major issue is upon return there is ..........NO RECEIPT!! So I spent this afternoon calling a 1-888 number which is not local NOR is it a clear connection. Agents sound like they are breaking in and out. I called 3 times with NO LUCK.
