I rented a BMW X7 today at about 5:30 pm and drove it from East Boston to Roslindale. Once parked, I attempted to back out of my driveway but the steering was inoperable. The dashboard displayed multiple warning signs. I rented this vehicle using my business account to transport a few colleagues to a training on the North Shore tomorrow. It is now 8:40 pm and I'm still waiting for tow truck details. On the bright side - I was told to Uber back to the airport locating for a replacement which would be reimbursed. The only issue, is that I have to wait for the original vehicle to arrive back and they close at 12. Unacceptable for SIXT to rent a vehicle that clearly already had significant issues. I am extremely angry with Sixt and will never rent from them again. I advise anyone reading this to save yourself the energy and do the same. My disappointing story is not an isolated incident, as there are several other negative reviews with similar stories of customers being scammed with bills for pre-existing damages. I rented a car from Sixt at the Boston Airport last October that was already beat up, poorly maintained, and clearly overdue for service with maintenance lights on when it was handed to me. I reported the existing damage during my rental and was issued a claim number. There is a documented paper trail proving this. Months later, Sixt is now trying to charge me $1500 in repair fees and claiming I never reported the damage. That is completely false and feels like a blatant attempt to shift responsibility for pre-existing damage onto a new customer. Renting out damaged vehicles and then attempting to bill customers afterward is shady business practice. Shame on you, Sixt. If you rent from Sixt, document everything with photographs and be prepared to fight charges that should never be yours. I strongly recommend choosing a different rental company. read more

i'm not sure if they're trying to scam customers or what, but i cannot recommend them. My experience with Sixt started out great and ended up being one of the worst rental car experiences I've ever had. The pickup process was smooth, the vehicle was great, and I was impressed enough that I recommended Sixt to family and friends. Unfortunately, everything went downhill after I returned the car. First, I was charged more than the amount originally quoted. A manager eventually acknowledged the mistake, corrected the charges, and assured me that my $200 security hold would be released. Nearly two months later, I am still trying to get that $200 back. I've made multiple phone calls, sent emails, and spent hours following up. Every time I'm told the same thing: "The hold was released, just wait longer." Yet no one has been able to provide documentation or actually resolve the issue. As if that wasn't frustrating enough, about a month after I returned the vehicle, Sixt started contacting me claiming I had damaged the car. This was shocking because an employee completed a walk-through inspection with me when I returned it and noted no damage. After several more calls and a lot of wasted time, Sixt finally discovered that the damage occurred after my rental period and was caused by another customer. Being wrongly accused of vehicle damage weeks after a documented return inspection is unacceptable. Having a $200 hold remain unresolved for nearly two months despite repeated follow-ups is even worse. I rent cars frequently and have never experienced this level of disorganization, poor communication, and lack of follow-through from a rental company. What began as a great first impression turned into a frustrating and time-consuming ordeal. Unfair and scammers! I hate doing this-making bad reviews, but we are extremely frustrated! We rented the car for 5 days in Boston. We brought the car back in the same condition as we got. After 10 days we received an email stating that we damaged the car (front) and we own them $1300. When we picked up the car it was already little bit damaged in a different way (back) They found little scratch on the front and saying that we did it.. Which is totally wrong! You can see the photo for what they are asking money. And as I mentioned above after 10 days when we left the car. We looked up at Damage Appraisers and they were red flagged for being scammers!! I forgot my backpack in a car I returned and have gone almost a week with no legitimate response, no manager contact and a bot email stating they can't locate my bag. I have pictures of it locked in the car when I returned it and have sent more emails and phone calls than I can count. We had a horrible experience here. The attendant we got our car from was on something and could barely speak. The vehicle we got had a nasty odor of marijuana but we didn't have an opportunity to change the vehicle out. When we returned it we were told we would get a day taken off for the inconvenience but so far nothing has been done. I've called and asked when I will be reimbursed but there is no record of the manager requesting that we get a day taken off. It's cheap and you get what you pay for. read more

While the service experience at Boston Logan Airport and the car itself were pleasant, the communications following the return of the rental car were nothing short of a mess. Upon returning the car, I received a "return receipt" identifying damage to the two right side tires. There was no damage to the car returned. The documentation was dated and stamped prior to the return of the vehicle and the images of the "damaged" car in the claims portal were a different model and color than the car I rented. A week later I received an email receipt for a 9-day rental under the same reservation number as my 2-day rental. And my credit card was charged for a 9-day rental. I sent an email outlining the events and received NO response. At this point I am left to believe this is fraudulent customer abuse. Honestly, I picked these guys because on kayak they showed the best price. Not a good price mind you but a few dollars better than the competition. But I really feel like I got hosed by them because it was super early in the morning. I was half awake and not paying close attention. But essentially I have insurance coverage through my credit card. But in addition to that, I got more coverage through kayak when I made the rental, but then when I was there in line, the gal behind the counter, convinced me that Boston is as "at fault state" which is a bit misleading. Long story short the insurance was more expensive than the car rental itself and by the time all said and done I paid well over $650 for about four days. I really feel hosed. read more

Extremely Disappointed - Unsafe Vehicle, Poor Service, No Resolution I've been a loyal Sixt customer for years, renting both internationally and in the US for my business and vacation travels. Unfortunately, my recent experience was unacceptable. After flying from Italy into JFK, I returned my BMW 7 Series rental in Italy and picked up a BMW X5 from Sixt JFK. While driving overnight to Boston, I noticed the X5 had extremely high mileage, was dirty, beat up, and had severe tire balance issues that caused the entire car to shake dangerously. I immediately reported the issue via the Sixt app and was told in writing to exchange the car at the nearest Sixt location. I drove to the Westin Hotel Sixt in Boston, where I overheard another customer complaining about a broken-down vehicle. When it was my turn, I was told there were no cars available, no upgrades, and they would not honor the exchange request. The manager, who came out with a dismissive attitude, refused to help--even after I showed him the official email instructing me to exchange the vehicle. Instead of helping, they took the car away entirely and left me stranded. I had to rent a taxi to another company just to continue my trip, making me late for critical business meetings and causing serious disruptions to my work. Even though I know Sixt is "too large to fail" and appears to have grown too comfortable in that position, that is no excuse for treating loyal customers this way or ignoring serious safety concerns. To make matters worse, I have yet to receive a single phone call from Sixt about the incident. The only communication I've received has been irrelevant and unhelpful email responses. This was not only poor customer service but a total disregard for my safety and business commitments. People with that kind of attitude should not be in management. I've trusted Sixt for years, but this experience has shaken my confidence in the company. Add to all this: I forgot an item in the vehicle, I drove back with the rental from another company and they were actually cleaning the vehicle to rent to another customer!!! -Attached is the official SIXT email instructing me to exchange the vehicle locally -- which the Boston Westin Hotel location refused to honor -- and a photo of the site manager who delivered that refusal. Sixt emailed me to say I would get 20% off my next rental if I downloaded their app. I did so and no coupon showed up, either in email or on the app. I tried multiple times to use the app and get the discount. No luck. I called their customer service. Was told they could not help on the phone and I needed to email. So I did so. Several days and multiple emails later, they refused to fix the problem and honor the promised discount. They told me 'not their problem' and could only be done through the app. I told them the app wasn't providing the promised discount and they didn't care. Refused to put me in contact with a supervisor to fix the issue. I booked a car for August 2nd at the BOS location, and the so-called manager, Farley (who refused to provide his last name "for security purposes"), denied me a vehicle, claiming my temporary Massachusetts license was invalid. For context, Avis accepted the exact same license without issue. When I presented my international license, still NOTHING. Even when I showed my husband's license, they refused. Then came the most ABSURD excuse I've ever heard: they told me that a Toyota cannot be driven to Canada. This was clearly just a way of AVOIDING honoring the RESERVATION I had already paid THOUSANDS of dollars for. Beware of this company! Rented a car 1 year ago and had a tire blow out on the freeway (hadn't driven off road or hit anything). Did Sixt apologize for the inconvenience and lack of proper maintenance on the vehicle - NO. They sent me a bill saying that I was responsible to pay $800 for tire replacement and towing, since I hadn't taken full protection from them. They have since bothered me constantly and have sent two collection agencies after me. I have rented 100's of cars from other companies over my lifetime and have never seen something like this from a rental company. When my family and I rented three SUVs for the week, we each rented separately. We declined the insurance they offered to us.. In our conversations with the person at the desk, they confirmed back to us that they understood we were declining insurance. But then when they asked for our signature on the contracts, they had added the insurance we all declined. At the end of our trip, we were all separately billed for that insurance charge. To their credit, they refunded all three of us along with giving us a stern warning. This is the most dishonest rental company I have ever dealt with. I rented a car for two days for a total price of $73 (according to the contract I signed at their front desk when I got the car). But I received an invoice for $1084, yes, $1084 because Sixt said I rented the car for 10 days. Thanks God I took pictures when we got the car and when we returned it. We were not even in Boston anymore the day Sixt said we returned the car. We were 2500 miles far away. Then I called Sixt and they agreed to lower the total cost to $216, which is still more than twice what I signed for at the time I rented the car. And this is the second time Sixt ripped me off. Then, it took them 45 minutes to get their system to work to replace that car, after which no apology or explanation was given. HORRIBLE BUSINESS. I got lost walking around key west and received a parking ticket for $132.80. Nbd. Received the bill on 3/14/25 and called the number to pay it. It said to settle by 03/18/25, if paid before then, total due was 94.99. So I followed the instructions and was connected to an automated payment system for Professional Parking Management-the issuer of the invoice. Done, payment confirmed. Then on 03/19/25, Sixt charged my debit account for $132.80 I never spoke with a Sixt representative, never authorized payment to Sixt, and when I paid the parking company directly, I used an entirely different card. I contacted my bank and they created a claim right away and contacted Sixt explaining all of this. Sixt is still emailing me looking for $90! Completely ignoring the fact that I did not authorize that payment bc I already paid it....SHADY AF. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS. read more

DO NOT RENT A SIXT VEHICLE ANYWHERE! There's something seriously wrong with this company. During my rental back in August the windshield just cracked out of nowhere from the side over the driver's view. I reported it immediately via their app and didn't hear anything back, so I reported it again. They never acknowledged my report till I turned the car in and explained what happened to the attendant. They had my card on file for incidentals, so I assumed if they were going to charge me they would do it quickly. They didn't and waited till December 5th (more than 90 days after my rental) to give me an invoice for almost $800 and expected me to pay it within 10 days!! I immediately started emailing them including the documentation I had from first reporting the crack that they neglected to respond to. Again no response for almost a month. All they did was re send the bill to me and then blamed me for trying their different email addresses to get someone's attention. Legally they only have 30 days to charge a renter for any damages! Asked if I wanted a toll transponder at desk. Declined at first, but when I went to get the car downstairs from the desk, another clerk asked me again saying the charge would be $15.99. When I receive my final invoice, I am charged $15.99 A DAY!! I called and had it corrected, or so I thought. A couple weeks later I received an invoice for tolls plus an administrative charge of $31.98. I called to ask why and was told it was because I didn't have a transponder for tolls. I explained i did and the error the clerk made by just stating $15.99 and not $15.99 a day. I was told I could either pay the tolls with the administrative fee or they could charge me for the $15,99 a day fee ( I rented a car for 5 days). Anything to get some kind of fee from you. Your associates made errors and we still pay or risk getting more fees. Bad Business read more

OMG I am seeing all these reviews. I had a great experience, dropped it off no problem. Flight was late so I called and they said 2 hours isn't a big deal. So I get my billy day after and then I get a bill a few days after just finalizing it. Then 2 weeks later they send me a picture of a tiny scratch on the hood. 2 weeks after I dropped it off paid for it and now they want $550. The mark is probably the size of a staple. It is so small that it could have been there before I rented it or even after I rented it and I never even noticed it because it's that small. Photo is listed below and they want $550 for this. This is really a scam and never come near this place. I travel weekly for work for 25 yrs. I rented from SIXT at Westin Hotel, Boston. I returned the car one day early to the parking garage and SIXT attendant. The next 8 days I received emails from SIXT stating the car wasn't returned and the last email said they would contact the police. I spent at least three (3) hours a day trying to reach a person to assist as I was in NYC. I called the Westin Front Desk and the manager went to the SIXT counter to relate to the person to fix this mistake in their system. I spoke to some idiot in Tunisia who said to contact Jose. Rivera @ Sixt. I was disconnected, told supervisors were in board meetings (!), on and on. It really was the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have ever encountered. Finally, Charlie from Roadside Assistance helped me. EIGHT DAYS LATER. Now I received an $85 bill for a $25 toll. THERE ARE NO TOLLS where I drove. AND A $65 SIXT SERVICE FEE. Sixt Management should be ashamed of the policies and lack of personnel training. I was left stranded late on a Friday night in San Diego when the Sixt manager would not rent me the car I had reserved because I had a temporary drivers license. That is what the state of Rhode Island gives you when you have a change of address. It had all the pertinent information on it including my photo. In addition, I had about 15 other forms of identification. That license was sufficient for the TSA and an Alamo car rental in another city, but not at Sixt in San Diego. She said it was Sixt company policy. Since it was over the holiday's none of the other rental companies had a car so, I had to pay for taxis to go everywhere. Sixt needs to change their policy and train employees to use reasonable judgement. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. First they tried to use coercive language when renting me the car asking if I wanted partial protection or cover the whole car when my insurance already covers rentals. Then there was no paperwork, no walk around, or anything other means of noting prior damage on the car when picking up or dropping off. They then tried to claim there was a 1.5in scrape on the front bumper and that it would cost over $900 to repair. When arriving at the Denver International shuttle was waiting got to Sixth and there was a long line barley moving we waited over 30 minutes agent wasn't friendly when returning car we were running late to get to the airport asked the first guy we saw where to return the car and could we get a ride to airport he said the shuttle is over there so he couldn't take us person checking the in we asked her she said hang on and didn't return we went inside nobody's around the manager came out of the bathroom asked him he said the shuttle is outfront no ones in the shuttle we tell everyone we talked to we need to get to the airport finally shuttle driver comes he's farting around like stalling once again let's go we're going to be late 45 minutes later driver was very rude didn't help us with luggage and dropped us off at the wrong door. read more

This review applies only to the SIXT at Toronto airport. It was ridiculous trying to find the SIXT Rent A Car. The instructions were baffling to two people with master degrees. Once we got there (it took at least 40 minutes) we had to wait and the man behind the counter was unbelievably rude. I don't remember encountering such overt rudeness ever! Everything was smooth and easy. Admittedly I had to wait about 15 minutes for a car which they had to clean, but I was 10 minutes early only 20 minutes after they opened. My agent was casual and comfortable, and I have to say the most honest non-salesman experience concerning fees and gas, assuming I wanted to pump myself and recommending the cheaper toll option because I wouldn't need the pricier option. The return was surprisingly easy and quick, just left the key in the car and walked away. Good car too. No complaints, happy to use them again. read more
