Only writing this review to balance the other reviews that are obviously valid, but don't represent the entire business. A business that rents hundreds of cars, and gets 3-4 bad reviews is still doing something right. Arrived at LIH, got on the shuttle (no wait, lucky) got to their compound, car was already parked outside. Spoke to Michelle...she was truly, truly amazing. She was welcoming, warm, and extremely polite. It was a delight working with her, and her giving some tips I haven't heard of being on Kauai. My only criticism was that the car was definitely not cleaned well enough for my liking. I suppose that's do to turnover... but that will be taken to account. Return of the vehicle was smooth. Uncle on Thursday night was very polite and super funny to talk to. Just great customer service from arrival to departure. I will use SIXT again on Kauai should the same deal pop up for me! read more

Stay away from Sixt. Period. This location pressured me into buying their insurance despite having full coverage with my own car insurance that includes rental coverage. After I returned the car, the staff cleared it during the walk-around. No issues. No mention of damage. Then I disputed the insurance charge and got it refunded. Two days later, I receive an email claiming there's damage to the vehicle. I called to discuss it. The damage department won't speak to customers--apparently that's their policy. When I questioned how suspicious that sounded, the rep laughed and hung up on me. Called back and got a different rep who said the first one left no notes. Now I'm fighting with this company over damage I didn't cause, with no way to actually resolve it. Stay away from this company. Look on Google and see what people say about sixt. Just like everyone else. Having significant problems with a reported damage post rental. Confirmed rental receipt shows no new damage. Called office and they had no idea why I was getting a claim yet the photos came from them. Provided no help in resolving this and requested I go through central claims. Central claims is open 4 hours a day from 10 AM to 2 PM EST. That is 5 AM to 9 AM Hawaii Time before any manager even gets there. They say after those hours they communicate via email. Yet, I've emailed multiple times with no response. They said they are backlogged on emails.... I've supplied all of this and their own system shows no return damage. Yet they are still trying to do this claim against me. In addition they will not call a branch at all. Now they are trying to extort me for almost $2,000 with the same template type visuals others have reported. Stay away from this place at all cost. Sadly this is a fraudulent company. I never write reviews but feel this is necessary to warn others from being scammed. Upon arrival at Sixt I was greeted by a friendly staff and upgraded to a BMW 228i. After a nice chat with the woman at the front desk she warned me to check the car out thoroughly and report anything no matter how small before driving away. I did a full walk around of the car but could not find any defects, I am a car guy and very detail orientated when it comes to cars but the car was truly in great shape. During the course of the rental I treated it like I would one of my own cars and parked at the back of lots as I always do to avoid door dings as best as possible. Upon drop off I was greeted by a staff member as I pulled into the drop off lane, and she informed me she was going to do the damage inspection and asked if I would like to walk around with her to inspect the car myself. I said yes and did the full walk around with her and neither her nor I could find a single scratch or dent on the car. She told me that the car "looked perfect" and that she was marking the return form on her iPad as "no damage". She then had me give my signature on her iPad as a confirmation of my drop off and there being no damage in the inspection, which marked the end of my Sixt rental. 5 days after my drop off I received an email from Sixt claiming a 2-4" scratch on the rear fender and a repair bill for $1863.33. with a photo of a small singular scratch they claimed was down to the primer. While the scratch was minimal, it was not present when I dropped off the car. There was an appeal process in the email which I went through and explained that the car had been damage inspected by their employee at the end of my rental and that it was deemed as having no damage which I signed off on. Sixt replied that they denied my appeal and that I was found liable and that I needed to pay otherwise I would be sent to collections, and I received a call threatening collections from Sixt within a few days of this. After several failed calls to the Kauai Sixt office (which is not possible to get through to) I ended up getting help from the Sixt call center and the employee was able to source a copy of the signed inspection at drop off. The woman in the call center said this would be able to reverse the charges but that I would have to take it up with their claims department in order to do this, which she gave me the number for. She also said that on the specific BMW I rented that Sixt had claimed there was damage to multiple doors, the front and rear bumper, the interior, and basically the entire car, none of which was present during my rental. The saga came to a close after a call to the Sixt claims department who before I could even explain the entire situation, told me that Sixt Kauai had falsely attributed damage to my rental by submitting damage to the BMW multiple days after my rental had ended and attributing it to me. Within a minute of being on the phone he told me they would be cancelling the damage claim immediately and sent me an email showing a cleared out balance for the claim. They told me that there was no explanation as to why they had proceeded to charge me (for over $1800) for damage that occurred after my rental had ended. The entire call took about 3 minutes. The man at the claims department in so many words told me that they are looking in to Sixt Kauai closely, and did not dispute my question as to whether this constituted felony insurance fraud being that the charge was over the dollar threshold, and insinuated that this type of practice may be common from their location. For the Sixt Kauai management: Please quit scamming people before the Better Business Bureau shuts you down. The Sixt employees who I interacted treated me with Aloha and were a reminder of how much I had missed living on Kauai. There are many great people there that are relying on you for a job, not to mention the visitors who are excited to experience the beauty of Kauai. Sixt charged me a $32. toll when I rented from them in Chicago, 2 months ago. I paid my toll road fee online, and sent Sixt my receipt. However, they won't reimburse me, despite repeated phone calls and emails. Every response from them is the same, "we have not been able to fully resolve your request, we are working on it." See that tiny scratch? It caused Sixt to lose a longtime and loyal customer. Well, I am not-so-happy to join the other reviewers here who have had similar experiences with misleading damage claims. Sixt leaves the consumer to self-walk the car and report any damage before leaving the lot which I did - and was advised by the desk clerk to report any dings/dents/scratches larger than a golf ball. I walked the car before leaving, saw no visible damage (the car was NOT clean, having recently rained so the lower portion of the car white car was muddy and dirty from splashes created from the rain) - however, when I returned the car after having it parked on our resort property for 8-days and being the only driver, the clerk at the return drive found a small scratch in the plastic bumper at the left-front of the vehicle. She told me not to worry about it at all..........only to receive a demand for $1800 for payment to repair it 3 weeks later. I have been a LONGTIME and LOYAL Sixt Client for over a decade....renting exclusively from them for each of my annual Kauai vacations and using them abroad in other cities I travel to as well. NO MORE. ***Sixt, you have lost a loyal customer for the misleading assurances from your clerk at the return driveway, for your lack of consumer-focused care in placing the burden on your CUSTOMER to self-assess any damage (let alone on cars that are masked in dirt to hide the damage in question), and for the complete inability to reach a human being to discuss this at your site location or via your 800 number!*** This egregious behavior will results in thousands of dollars of lost revenue from me personally, and I will be certain to share my experience with my friends, family, clients, or anyone I hear who may be interested in renting from you in the future to safeguard them from making the same mistake I did. When we arrived in Lihue I was disappointed to realize that SIXT is NOT located at the airport. I immediately was concerned wondering how I was supposed to get to the rental location. However, a Shuttle arrived right away to take us and the employee was very professional and helpful! When I arrived the lady checking me in was so friendly and welcoming! She gave us waters and candy for our kids. Our Jeep was great and there were no issues. Returning was incredibly easy and the man helping us again, so kind and professional. The shuttles are very regular and frequent so the waiting is minimal and if anything it's more convenient. I'd definitely use them again! read more

I declines the insurance, something I always do since I have good insurance that would cover in case of an accident. I didn't realize that meant no customer service. We had a flat in North Shore on the way to the airport in an area with no phone service. 5 adults, 2 small kids, got a ride up to where we could call.. They said they would pick up but as far as our transportation goes, we were on our own.. NO assistance in recommending anyone. We were stressed. Found a taxi that could handle us paid a fortune, almost missed the flight. Just got a bill for the flat and the tow $1037.83 I can't believe they want me to pay for the flat tire, it's bad enough they left us strained. These guys are just the best, especially Aimee! She was super kind and even though I bought a lower category rental, she upgraded me to a convertible! She was super easy and very friendly and went the extra mile, gave me some great tips for fresh fish, too! And even though she did offer the extra insurance; as soon as I said no thanks as I have the Chase Reserve card, she did not try to upsell anything to me. This is great customer service and exactly what one can expect, Sixt is much better than all the other rentals! So absolutely recommend it! Don't listen to the complainers here writing negative, when I had an accident a few years back even that was easy to solve with the Chase card, Sixt was super nice and immediately switched the car out for me. read more

Have rented with Sixt many times! Had wonderful experiences every time, in many states. Lihue was the exception. We left LAX after 2 delayed flights. I got updates from Sixt, saying they were monitoring our flight. We arrived at Lihue, and were first off the plane, I told my husband to go get on shuttle because it stopped at 10:30. My assumption was since they were monitoring our flight, they would know when we landed. He got to shuttle area only to be told my other rental company, they were already gone, and it wasn't even 10:30. He tried calling all the numbers we could find. No answer from anyone. We got our luggage and had to UBER over at a cost of $39 for about 1 1/2 miles. Arrived and was told by security officer at Sixt, they had left 5 min prior. So we Uber'd to our hotel at another $110. Called once we woke up, and got a representative, not the actual Sixt in Lihue. I asked to have the rental delivered to me, because they don't have shuttle or stay open until we arrived. (Don't send texts or emails saying you are monitoring, if you really aren't doing that) gives people false hope! The representative told me they would not deliver to me. I asked to cancel the car, because after both ways of an UBER it would cost me almost what the whole rental would end up being. They told me they would not cancel the reservation. I asked to speak to someone in Lihue, and they said they don't have a number there? Hmmm how would we be able to call for shuttle then or any problems? I am so very disappointed in Sixt. I have sung their praises for years and also referred my traveling friends their way. They ended up charging us for whole thing. I rented a car from Avis at our hotel for the day we needed one, I will be telling our friends NOT to use Sixt, and will not be using them myself. Just beware if you use them on Kauai. I have to admit I was terrified after reading the reviews that we were going to get left with a big repair bill without cause. However, they didn't allow me to change my plan without a big penalty. Surprisingly, one of the most positive car rental experiences in recent memory. They had exactly the car I rented ready for me at pickup. I was in and out in no time. Staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Shuttle bus a little bit slow. Had to wait a bit longer than expected to get to the airport. Rental offices immaculate. Clean bathroom. A bit of a sticker shock at the gas station, even for a California used to paying high prices. The surprise year, the size of the gas tank on the Jeep. We rented a car and were charged for fuel at the end of the trip after we filled up the car within three miles of where the drop off was. To make matters worse they claimed that we damaged the car which did not happen. Within a couple of days of letting us know that they found a scratch. They informed us that there was more damage found. On top of this the person that told us about the damage, David Anderson the subrogation specialist refuses to answer our emails asking about the appeal process. He seems to think that strong arming customers into paying for something they didn't do is acceptable. Crooks! Crooks! Crooks! Just like many people on yelp, Sixt accused me of new damage (it was present at pick up) to my rental after I returned it. The car was a silver Jeep Compass with damage to the back passenger side. The damage was covered by paint. When I returned the car, the person who checked my car pointed out the damage which I showed pictures to prove it was present at pick up. She was agreeable that the damage was present at pick up. A day later, Sixt emailed stating new damage was found on the car which was the same damage I was questioned. The damage was present at pick up but even if it wasn't, you can't blame me for damages AFTER I returned the car. Once it's out of my hands, anything that happens to it is not my responsibility. Sixt doesn't have that many cars on their lot. The same employees check in the cars everyday so I'm sure they know about all the damages on their cars. They just play dumb just in case they get someone careless or new to renting who didn't take pictures and videos of their rental before driving off. We were in a jam, the Alamo car rental place screwed us over. So we reserved one online with SIXT, as we were right down the street. This occurred after I contacted the Hawai'ian and California attorneys general, the Offices of Consumer Protection, the Federal Trade Commission and escalated the case to the office of their COO. If you choose to rent from this location, take great photos of the whole car to protect yourself. ---------------------------------------------- I had an incredibly frustrating experience with Sixt in Kauai that I feel compelled to share. I rented a car from November 20-25, 2024, and after returning it, I was hit with a $508.75 charge for a scratch they claimed occurred during my rental. However, I had taken detailed photos and videos of the car on November 20 before driving it, and these clearly show the exact same scratch existed before my rental. I submitted this evidence to Sixt on November 27, and they acknowledged receipt, yet they continue to pursue this baseless claim. To make matters worse, when I picked up the car, I was explicitly told by their representative, Tabitha, that an inspection wasn't necessary. This lack of diligence on their part has led to an unjust and avoidable situation. I expected better from a company of this size. Their poor process and disregard for evidence have not only wasted my time but caused unnecessary stress. If you're renting from Sixt, I strongly recommend documenting everything and preparing for potential disputes. I thought my issue was maybe an honest error but as I read these reviews others claim very similar issue. I returned car and there was no damage. attendant checked car and fuel while we were there and said all is good. 3 days later I get an email claiming a less than 9 cm scratch on rear bumper and they wanted to charge me almost a $1000. i had not seen the emails until recently, fortunately my receipt showed it was checked in with zero damage. Customer service agent initially said it was with collections already, but did address it and closed the case. The crazy thing was I took pictures of vehicle before I rented, and the roof was covered in scratches from panels being removed and thrown in the back of the jeep. Not sure if Sixt is franchised or Corporate but this needs to be reported. Unrelated when I picked up reserved Jeep, they did not have it and gave me the Jeep Gladiator which has an open bed which is useless on an island that rains as much as Kauai. They told me to come back the next day and they would exchange, they would have plenty of jeeps. Of course when I got back they said they had none available, but eventually found one. I wont be renting from Sixt in Kauai for sure. Probably will avoid them altogether. I had family member who was renting in October but they cancelled after this garbage. What a disappointing experience in paradise! I will never use this company again. I am being charged $900 for a supposed scratch on a door yet there was absolutely no damage to the vehicle during my rental period. Furthermore, there was no walkthrough or documentation conducted by the company prior to my possession of the car. When I dropped off the vehicle in Lihue, the employee explicitly mentioned, "you will see an email from me about the damage, but do not be alarmed." This statement, combined with the lack of initial documentation, raises serious concerns about the legitimacy of the damage claim. How unethical and predatory. The car was in terrible shape and had scratches and dings all over it. Had I known the company was so unethical, I would have demanded a thorough walkthrough when we arrived at 10pm after traveling for over 19 hours. We used this SIXT Rent A Car while on a recent vacation from LA to Kauai. Pick up from the airport to transfer to the office was pretty prompt, fuss-free and friendly. It only too a few minutes to make the journey. When we got to the rental location, the person who helped us, Tabitha, was absolutely superb and went above and beyond to help and answer any and all questions we had. She gave us all the information we needed and offered extras/upgrades but was not pushy at all. We felt fully informed of all our options. On top of the great service with the vehicle and explaining everything to do with the rental car itself (which we were also very happy with), she gave us some great local tips and suggestions in line with our personal requirements over and above what was available normally - they genuinely greatly enhanced our entire vacation. This service alone guaranteed we will be coming to SIXT first when we return to Kauai. Drop off was a breeze too and the team were super pleasant to deal with. This is the best service we have ever received from a car rental firm or staff member of ANY rental company. THIS is how it is done. Tabitha is a first class employee and a real asset to SIXT. Not only were we delighted with the service (and the price!) but her service made us change our previous perception of the company completely. A+ read more

The people who worked there were very friendly. They told us to take pictures of the car before we left, which we did. When we returned the car, they didn't check the car, they just said that's all we needed to do. We saw no damage on the car. Once we were home, we received a notice with a fuzzy picture that you couldn't really see and a note saying there was a gouge on the inside of the car and a bill for $650 for the repairs. Since we were already home, we couldn't check for the validity. There was no way we could have made that gouge. It all appears to be a scam. I will be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau. read more

Sixt is a total scam. Make sure before you leave in the car that you take a video walking around the entire vehicle to document existing damage. Adding pictures thru their check in app does nothing and you will most likely never see them again. They will still try and pin damage on you in attempt to get more money. They tried sending me an invoice for thousands of dollars of damage that we didnt do hoping I would just pay it. But the second I called and told them I had video of the car they dropped the charges without even seeing the video or pictures. In fact the customer service rep even claimed he saw my pictures even tho I had never sent them in. He couldn't get off the phone fast enough. Don't fall for their scams and protect yourself with videos and pictures before you leave. read more
