No hard push to buy insurance or gas refuel. No drama. We had a choice of SUVs to select from. Did a walk around of the vehicle. Drove to the exit gate. The agent scanned the QR code. Provided a map of the island and driving tips. Even gave us a restaurant suggestion. Upon rental car return a week later, the agent did a walk around; checked the gas gauge; issued an email receipt. The selection is not necessaily the best, but the vehicles are relatively nice and gets me between points A and B. I'll be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect when the line to pick up our rental was 10 deep, but surprisingly, the line moved fast, and we were provided with excellent and friendly service. Once we got the the rental car, the car was clean, had a full tank of gas, and we were off for a long weekend of adventuring. The staff was SO friendly and the process was quick and painless! I checked in online the day before my reservation. When we landed in Kauai, we took a shuttle to enterprise, which was not busy at all, no line. I showed the representative my drivers license and he told me to pick any car, the keys were inside, and we were on our way! When dropping off the car, we were running late so I had to extend the drop off time online but even that was very simple and painless. When we returned the car, the staff was so friendly and sweet. They did a walk around and checked the gas, she showed me the final receipt and the total was the same as my estimate so I was happy about that. I have been an Enterprise customer for years, and have always gotten very well maintained, and clean rental vehicles, and the customer service is always been very good. The shuttle bus driver was very funny, nice informative, and got me excited to start my 2 week vacation on Kaua'i. The minute I walk into the building, step up to the rental counter I am greeted by a gum chewing lady with an absolute scowl on her face. No greeting at all!! Just started grilling me about we're are you staying how long will you be here. I have rented a lot of cars and never been treated that way. This person needs a job detailing cars outside in the 90 degree heat, not as a customer service representative, do better!!! Not a great way to start out your vacation. We then went to select our vehicle from the row of cars in our rental class, we checked out five before we found one that wasn't completely trashed/dirty/nasty. This car we selected out of 5 was still a piece of trash, we had to drive with the windows down, just to keep the windshield from fogging up, the headlights were so dim you can barely see the road in the dark, the air conditioner made a horrible clicking noise the whole time we had the vehicle. Connected to Assistance who attempted to troubleshoot over phone. Attempts were unsuccessful. 2:53 and 3:06 pm links sent by e-mail to share location. First one did not come through. Second one did. Text message instructions and link given with instructions to contact Uber (via provided link) ~4:15 pm Tow driver arrived to haul away Van. Link for Uber accessed. 4:22 pm. Uber not available. Called Roadside Assistance. Informed Uber does not drive to area without address. Lady assisting me informed me of Uber policy and that she was contacting a TAXI for us. I asked her for an estimated time of arrival and said she could not provide one. 5:01 pm Called Roadside Assistance. There is none on Island of Kauai and advised to call police to be transported to a business location to access Lyft or Uber services. Meanwhile, Hanalei Initiative Van (non-profit, driver = Nancy) picked us up and transported the 4 of us to Big Save Market in Hanalei. 6;05 pm Called Roadside Assistance. Uber and Lyft contacted. No drivers available for both. 6:35 pm Roadside Assistance Called. Communicated that we were on our own to get transportation to Lihue Airport Enterprise. Relative called for a 2+ hour round trip from Lihue to Hanalei and back. ~8:50 pm (6 hours from initial call). Arrived at Enterprise Lihue location. Details of what transpired provided to manager. We recently returned from Kauai for a week and decided to rent from Enterprise. Avis is usually my first choice and I decide to switch it up. Overall friendly service, but my gosh DO NOT be late with your rental. Their lead customer rep is aggressive. Not only did I receive an email, I got blast with 4 calls in less then 12 hours. It was an overkill. And when I responded to the aggressive intact, i didn't get a response. If you rent from them, make sure to be on time (because you work for Enterprise), and Pump your gas. I did not choose Enterprise, it was provided through the insurance of the person who rear-ended my car. We had the rental for four days while our car was being repaired. Everything went wrong with this because of communication issues between Enterprise office in Lihue and their office at the airport. No invoice, no receipts were given when we returned the vehicle. We found we were charged in error and did not get our deposit back when we received our bank statement. It took a few phone calls to the customer service, and a nasty review to get the corporate office attention. Easy experience for me! Rental car rates post-COVID have increased dramatically but luckily I was able to secure an excellent rate through an employee benefits program. I can't speak to the value/cost in comparison to other car rental rates. Budget Car Rental works out of the same office so when you go to the car rental area at the airport, you can board the Budget shuttle to get to the rental office (it's very close). Team members were friendly and helpful. Very easy checkout and return. There were a few people in front of me at check-in and the line moved very quickly. At checkout, you just pull up into a line of cars and the agent walks around for a quick inspection, records mileage/gas, scans something and you're done. Upon return, since it's so close to the terminal, I dropped off the family with the luggage at the airport terminal curb and then made the short drive to the car rental to do the return. I do feel like the car interior wasn't as new as I was expecting for a newer rental car. We had a minivan with less than 20,000 miles on it. Not deducting any stars for that since I imagine it's difficult to keep a HI car rental looking crisp and new with the tropical weather and adventuring in nature/beaches. It wasn't dirty, just not as in what I would consider newer condition. Oh and for those who are renting minivans from this location: I believe they list Chrysler Pacifica or similar. By the time we got to the lot there were only Dodge Caravans available. So, you'll most likely getting a Pacifica or a Caravan. read more

We recently returned from Kauai for a week, when we rented from Enterprise via Expedia. Enterprise is usually my first choice on the mainland, but this was my first time with them in Hawaii. Once I got off the plane I immediately headed out to the car rental shuttle while my wife went to wait for our luggage. There were only 3 customers on the shuttle bus. Upon arrival to the car rental office, there were a few agents in the office, and two other customers who had already been helped. This office location handled 3 major rental company brands, with Enterprise being the smallest of the 3, and obviously more recently added. I immediately walked up to the first agent, with no waiting. The young lady who helped me was very nice, professional and efficient. I rejected their insurance as always, when I told her I have coverage via my CC, and she said "no problem". After signing all of the paperwork, she said to go to the front line of vehicles and choose any car from that line. I immediately noticed that they did not have the "Standard" size Ford Edge we had reserved (and that price paid), but only 4 of the larger sized SUV's and the rest were Minivans in that line. I then asked an attendant outside to confirm that I could take any car in that line, as they don't have what I reserved. She looked at my paperwork and said that all of the smaller vehicles are sold out, so I received a free upgrade to any vehicle in that front line. I selected the nicest and cleanest of them, a new-ish Ford Explorer Limited 4x4 fully loaded SUV, nearly perfect condition, and I thought I just won the car rental lottery for the week! The initial price to rent this "top of the line" Explorer (an $80k car) would have rented for 2 to 3 times what I paid for a standard car. I walked around to inspect it, and it did not any damage to the pearl white paint, and it was clean and ready to go! On most previous trips to the Islands, the cars we have rented from the other companies are typically mid-size SUVs, and they usually come wet or dirty as they only wash but do not dry their cars. I never really thought about it during past trips, but Enterprise seems to care more about their customer service and their fleet as compared to other major companies. This location is conveniently located about five minutes from the airport and about five minutes from most gas stations, including Costco and Texaco. In addition, they offer a shuttle service to and from the airport, with great, friendly staff. Check in was easy at the kiosk. From there, we were escorted to our reserved vehicle. The associate who helped us was no pressure and super helpful when it came to questions about the island. The return was also super easy, and took all of five minutes. Staff gave us no issue at all. LIked: 1) People were very friendly and they are quite efficient. 2) Didn't vibe that they were sneaky, or no upsale either which is refreshing. 3) Car was fine, handled well, clean but seemed to use a lot of gasoline. Didn't like: 1) Rental car prices are very high. Not just Enterprise but value wise, it is so much higher than pre-Covid. 2) I never got my original receipt upon rental (I should have asked for hard copy) and I had to call on phone twice to get it emailed (it never did initially). 3) We rented a premium car but our ONLY choice was a small SUV. I didn't really want an SUV but the choice was rather slim.. 4) We got the car at 7/8 but returned it full, wasn't sure if they indicated that as it wasn't on the receipt we were emailed so didn't take a chance. They didn't offer any credit for the extra gas to us, but this is quite a minor point and it doesn't affect my review at all. read more

We usually rent a car from Enterprise when we need a car. Their service is consistent and good so far everywhere in the US for us. Lihue Enterprise, you take a Shuttle to the office to pick up a car and return the car to the office, get a shuttle back to the airport. Operation has been pretty smooth and efficient. More like 3.5 stars. Not rounding up because of the ginormous bird poop (about the size of the grapefruit) on the window that greeted me upon entering the mini van. Anyway, we grabbed our luggage and exited the the airport, to check in at the Enterprise window. The Enterprise mini bus took us to the office where we sat around and waited for a long time. There was 1 person greeting/checking in (again) and 2 people bringing the cars up and signing off the paperwork. We waited for a good 25 minutes before we were called to our mini van. The inside of our mini van was really dirty. I guess they don't vacuum or wash the outside before sending it out with the next family. Generally speaking, the staff had that "Aloha spirit," and thanked us for our patience. Bringing back the car was easy. Just dropped it off, they handed us the receipt, and we hopped on the Enterprise mini bus to the airport. read more

Another great rental experience at the Lihue Airport Enterprise. The shuttle arrived at the pickup within 5 minutes or so. The driver was friendly. Once dropped off at the location, we were checked in quickly and taken to our rental - an SVU which was clean and new (2018). We had been hoping for something with a sunroof, but apparently there was nothing available.. no biggie. The car worked great all week. Drop off was a breeze. We opted not to fuel up and pay the fee, which I would not recommend as it is quite a bit more expensive than fueling up yourself. On another note. Recently Hawaiian Airlines partnered with another car rental company offering deals to Hawaiian Airlines members. We were tempted by this deal and had considered changing over for future rentals. However, we were so impressed with Enterprise and their decision to cut their discounts offered to NRA members, that we have decided to stay. Marc was very good but the manager, Angela Bimbo, was terrible. She refused to allow us to use a discount we received from a prior rental issue. Enterprise had assured us this discount was good at any location, but she was flippant and told us she couldn't do anything about it. Whether Enterprise is a franchise or not is not the customer's problem; they as a company need to make good on their promises, especially when it comes to reimbursing for a customer quality problem. All Angela is concerned about at the end of the day is her branch's PnL - she doesn't care about customer service or quality.
