We arrived in Kauai a few nights ago. We booked a midsize SUV. When I checked in with Chioban (sp?). She was super friendly and welcoming and check-in was super quick without hassles. I asked for leather seats since I have a condition where I have pain with sitting if the seats are not tilted upward and solid like a leather seat. There were only upholstery seats when I went outside to look so I came back inside to talk to Chiobhan. She went and found a leather seated car that had just been returned and said it'll take 15 minutes to clean which we were fine with. When the Mazda CX-50 car came out, we got in and took off but after about a mile or two, I was having pain because the seat was not very good and didn't tilt upward. So we turned around and went back in the parking lot and I was greeted by Alan and told him I'm having pain and I'm willing to upgrade for a better car. As I was heading back to the office, I saw a higher model Mazda CX-90 AWD and sat inside it and it was really nice and the leather seats were more firm and tilted back like I needed. I took a picture of the license plate and told them this is the one I wanted. They said no problem but I need to pay an upgrade for you and I said I'm happy to. Both Chiobhan and Alan we're super friendly and no nonsense and were quick to respond and take care of business with a high-level of customer service and in a very timely manner. I drove away very happy with how I was treated and with the car. Now I'm driving around with a beautiful and comfortable higher level Mazda SUV. I just need to remember next time to order a crossover or premium SUV. read more

I visited Alamo Rent A Car in Līhuʻe, Kauaʻi, Hawaii [3276 Hoolimalima Pl] on Monday, 01/19/26, in the late afternoon. This branch is conveniently located onsite at the Līhuʻe Airport. Upon arrival, I accessed the complimentary airport shuttle to Alamo and then proceeded to the check-in counter. To reduce wait time, I selected the Accelerated Check-In option during my initial booking and provided my information in advance. Because of this, I was able to go straight to the Alamo vehicle lot to pick up the white Jeep Wrangler. I would also like to note the high level of hospitality and friendliness from all of the staff members, from check-in to the exit booth. I even had the opportunity to interact with the manager, Tobias. I had a question regarding adjusting the steering wheel, and he was extremely pleasant and helpful. I rented two standard size cars from Alamo. One for the week of 4/11 (HNL) and another for the week of 4/18 (LIH). The first one (a Hyundai Sonata) was in decent condition and of an expected size. The second one was not what I consider to be a standard size. It was a Hyundai Elantra - which in all car references is a compact car. I believe Alamo charged me for a standard size car and gave me a compact. It was also stained throughout the interior and had numerous body damages (I have pictures taken when I received it) several shown here. When we arrived there was a wait for cars which was a bummer, BUT I'm giving 5 stars due to the oustanding customer service of how it was handled. Because of the wait they gave us a discount without even asking. Because it was thru Costco, they had to mail us a check. Gili, the manager, was fantastic about making sure the check was processed and put through. Booked Alamo through Costco and was completely satisfied with the experience. Checking in and car return was quick and easy. We booked a Pacifica Minivan and it was definitely a good choice for a family of five. The one we had seamlessly connected to my gps map so getting around the Island was easy. TIP: when you pickup your car they will tell you to select any of the model cars in a given row. DO not just take the first one in line because you think they are all the same. We did, and when we already packed it with the suitcases we noticed the car was pretty beat up inside and out and smelled like cat piss. So, I got out and picked another mini van (same model different color) and it was definitely a more upscale trim. Everying inside was clearly newer and a better dashboard. I recently visited Kauai for my honeymoon and ended up booking our rental car through Alamo. Let me rewind a bit and explain how I got there. Originally, I had booked with Dollar Thrifty, but after reading the reviews, I quickly decided to cancel that reservation and switch to Alamo Lihue because of the much better feedback. I am so glad I made that decision. Once we arrived, the process was incredibly smooth. We checked in, gave them our name, and were told we could choose any vehicle from our selected row. We ended up picking a 2025 Mazda CX-30, and it treated us wonderfully throughout the entire week. I also want to give a huge shoutout to the staff at both check-in and return. We just used Alamo on Oahu. We picked up our vehicle 15 mins early. According to Alamo Customer Service Rep, This ended up VOIDING our contract rate. It didn't matter that I returned it a bit early either. I was charged $150 more!! The Rep stated they had a grace period , which we were WELL within. AT NO POINT did ANYONE state that by picking up our rental 15 mins early we would be voiding our contract. We were NEVER given the option of waiting the 15 mins or agreeing to the EXTRA charges. read more

The Alamo company is not set up well for the island. So if you have a problem, the tow truck drivers are not going respond because Alamo will not paying what the rate is. I had a situation I needed to get into the car but could not, I called them, but their main line is not on the island it's in the the states, they were trying to reach out to a tow truck driver and telling them they'll pay them $27 to open this car all the tow truck drivers ignored it. Finally I called the tow truck driver and they said, "oh we heard about you that company is only going to spend 27 bucks for us to open it. There's no way we're gonna waste our time opening a car for that amount" Alamo never checked up on me, the app came back, saying we can try something tomorrow. I was already stranded so tomorrow's not going to work for me. They never asked did we get it solved. When I returned the car, they showed a $75 fee. I said no one showed up so how am I paying the $75 fee and so they just removed it. I tried to challenge to see if they would pay for the tow truck driver, but they denied it saying they refunded me the $75 which they never charged. I felt like they could pay me the $75 since I did all the work for them. It cost me about $130. If you're going to Kauai use a different service you might want to try some of the locals because they are on the island and they can come help you if you do get in a jam. This would also support their economy more than a corporation who probably doesn't really care about the island anyway. read more

Rented an suv. Trunk locked during trip and wouldn't open. Next day the battery died. The car seat i rented was so flimsy and wobbly. Terrible experience for my family. With getting in early and in a line of 15 people, I really thought that this would be a bad experience. Especially since only 2 people were at the counter. It was NOT a bad wait or check out! As soon as we got up to the counter, within 10 or 15 minutes, a friendly, professional woman took care of us quickly & efficiently without tacking on an additional fee for picking up our car 3 hours early. She was one of four people (2 more came out to help - probably after seeing the line) helping us and everyone in the long line. One woman took care of Alamo customers and 3 others took care of Enterprise renters, like us. So the line moved quickly. We went out to the lot, and we chose an intermediate vehicle - a Nissan Altima. It only had a few dings, but according to a paper we were given, it was okay. No need to report them. We were on our way in record time! We will definitely come back here when we visit Kauai! Oh, and our driver from the airport to Alamo was incredible! After reading reviews of the local car rental branches, I knew which ones to avoid :) Alamo had great pricing when booking in advance (Plan Ahead Car Rental Specials) and so I got what I felt was a pretty good deal at a highly rated car rental agency. I signed up for the Skip the Counter option for picking up the car. It was relatively simple and quick. We had minimal staff interaction in the pickup, but everyone was very nice and professional. When we arrived there weren't tons of cars in our range to choose from (about 3 and one couple ran over to claim one even before they had gotten checked in). Another of the available cars was fairly outdated and even when we checked it out, it didn't seem to have bluetooth or Apple Car Play options (which wouldn't work for us with the Guide Along app we planned to use), so we settled on the only other car that remained which was a Chevy Trax and it turned out to work out with the 4WD. The car was in good condition inside and out, and served us well for the days we were in Kauai. Dropping off the car was even quicker and easier than picking it up. We just got flagged through, someone took a look over the car and then signed off that we were good. The shuttle to and from the airport was also very quick and easy and we didn't wait around long for it both when arriving and leaving. Overall I was very pleased with my experience with Alamo from start to finish and would happily rent with them again in Kauai (and elsewhere). read more

I pointed at what looked like mid size (because there were still bigger SUV's then the midsize ones I was pointing at), but I was told that they were in fact mid size but they were premium so it would be a higher fee? When I turned 25 years old I was eager to celebrate that last major milestone of being an adult, being able to rent a car and drive it. How did I decide to celebrate it? I came to the Hawaiian Islands to do some field work on rocks I had studied in Honolulu as well as come to Kauai to do some field work exploring rocks that may be similar in nature to those I studied in Honolulu. So if I was coming to Kauai and needed to drive around the Island for multiple days I needed a means of transportation. I looked into a number of rental car companies and a number of rental car options. There was just one car I had really wanted to drive, a Jeep Wrangler. Alamo came highly recommended and they had Jeep Wrangler rental car options. I thought I had reserved the 2-door Jeep Wrangler, but when I went to pick it up I got the 4-door Jeep Wrangler for the reservation price. I was soooooo excited! I named the car Higgs after the elementary particle called the Higgs Boson in particle physics. Why? Because the Higgs is sturdy. I had a blast, the car drove smooth and I had no issues with its operation. Picking up and dropping off the car was a breeze, workers were kind and good spirited in their interactions, and there were no hidden expenses. I have had less than stellar experiences with Alamo in other places. On Kauai, Alamo was the way to go! I had read about super long lines to rent a car in Lihue, so I checked in online. Using the online check in process was easy. I had to wait a short while for the shuttle, so I figured they were busy. When I got to the Alamo desk, I was the only customer in the building. Everyone was helpful, and I got great car advice from the guys at the kiosk. The car was great (AC could have been just a bit more frosty), and we were pleased with our choice. The return was easy, and the shuttle had us to the airport in just a few minutes. Great all the way around! read more

Second I seen a group of young boys they look like there still in high school sitting in the cars smoking vapes, and looks like there was an older lady with them smoking to. Like really? Alamo I taught there are rules that have to be followed? and guideline's that have to be met. I just hope they fixed this situation because its very unprofessional that they let there works do that. Rented through Costco Travel and the best price was with Enterprise. Booked this reservation back in May of 2021 for a rental in February 2022. Yes, I plan ahead especially with the crazy increase in vehicle rental prices these days. I wanted to lock down a decent price. Like I said, I booked Enterprise but because of Covid affecting everything having to do with travel to the islands, Enterprise & National were consolidated with Alamo during our visit. So I you were booked with either of those 3 companies, the shuttle bus from the airport will take you to the Alamo rental building. After landing in LIH, collect your baggage at the carousel and walk across to the next sidewalk/curb and that is where the rental car company shuttles will pick you up. If you know LIH at all, you would know that the rental car companies are all on one street just past the airport parking that is across from the terminal. It's a short walk but there isnt a direct path there so it's probably easiest to take the 5 minute shuttle over... especially if you have sizable luggage with you. I had an intermediate SUV booked and was given my choice along a whole row of SUVs. I chose the GMC Terrain. I've had this vehicle as a rental on Kauai before and I really liked it. It wasnt bad on gas, it drove good in the rain and it has an AWD option. We had it for 2 weeks last time and this time we had it for 8 days. The folks at Alamo were friendly & kind. From the uncle that drove the shuttle bus with his Kauai fun facts, to the young Filipino gentleman at the rental counter who got me in and out of there quick to the ladies outside who guided me to my vehicle of choice and finally the nice Hawaiian lady at the gate. I appreciated them being efficient and for showing me aloha. We will be back again in a few months and if the price is right, could rent with Alamo/Enterprise again... Mahalos! Returning the vehicle was just as easy... Only reason it's not 5 stars is because of the elevated pricing on rental cars these days. read more

This Alamo is located near the airport and an Alamo shuttle picked us up within 2 minutes. It was very fast with little waiting. When we got into the rental desk area, there was a long line of customers. The staff used as many customer reps as they could to help the line go down faster. That was much appreciated. We waited about 20-25 minutes and we were helped with a great Jeep 4x4 rental for the week. 4x4s are highly recommended if you are going to Poli Hale beach near the Napoli coast or driving in rugged areas like the old sugar cane road. Otherwise, I suggest you rent a sedan. It's got iPhone media players and other features the Jeep does not. The week cost us about $300 for 8 days. I am a Hertz loyal member , but when I went to rent a car for Hawaii, Alamo came up 300$ cheaper than my Hertz. I was very nervous because the price was so good I thought there might be hidden fees and I'd be taken advantage of. When I arrived the line was short my attendant Retha was amazing. There was a slight snafu, but she got her manager's approval to fix a charge quickly and with a smile. We were down for a Tahoe but they upgraded us at no cost to a Jeep Grand Wagoneer . It was an amazing ride . It held us and the grandkids and the snorkeling stuff, lunches , and all the accessories. We loved the car ! They treated us so well. Upon returning Chantal checked us in quickly and with a smile , even enquiring about our vacation. I forgot the man who drove us back to the airport Saturday morning but he was friendly and pleasant also. I am impressed with this location and their staff. We had had an issue with a prior rental that was never really resolved to our satisfaction when we departed on our last visit, so I mentioned this to Gillie the depo manager when we were checking in during our latest trip. Not only did she personally take care of me, but she took care of the matter with Aloha and completely turned me in to an Alamo fan. We rent from Alamo every time we come to Kauai, and I appreciate the fact that they appreciate our loyalty, and we will definitely rent from them again given our recent great experience. Outstanding customer service! We went through Costco on a package deal that included an Alamo rental car. Our flight was delayed 2 hours from Seattle and we assumed we would get our rental in the morning because of the flight arrival after midnight. To our amazement they stayed open because they knew the flight was delayed. Thanks to the great staff working on the night of February 2nd! We really appreciate it. Based on someone elses review, I joined the Alamo Insiders and in a two minute chat with customer service, I was able to get a lower rate than the third party website I had already booked through AND my real reason for joining, I was able to skip the line by doing all the counter work online with my account. Rental car lines are notoriously long at LIH in my experience. Last time, I spent an hour and a half in line, and another hour and a half waiting for my car (different agency not Alamo.) That astonishingly good customer service experience in the online chat just might have made me a long time Alamo customer. read more

Rented a "mid size" and we got a Nissan Sentra with almost 50K miles on it. It drove fine enough to get us to the hotel and around town but what a piece of crap, esp since it was $60/day. Beware of renting from this place. They tried to pin us for the numerous dings and scratches. Luckily, my partner took pics before we left. The checkout lady was very accusatory and when I pushed back she got really rude. I'll never do Alamo again, thanks to this experience. read more

Yikes! The cars are very dirty. Ours had dirt foot prints on the center console, sand, sun screen, spilled coffee, and rust. The cars are quite beat up. The staff just gives one word answers and won't engage. Oh well, at least we got a car! read more
