I was hesitant to rent from this location (through the enterprise app) because of the VERY low rating here on yelp, but decided to go through with it anyway in lieu of not many other options in our price range. We needed to have an SUV to drive from where we live here in San Francisco down to where I grew up in San Diego, and after booking the rental through the enterprise app, we came to collect the "premium compact suv" which we'd chosen because the price difference from a "standard" to a "premium" was almost negligible. I was very surprised by how incredibly clean and spacious the lobby was, and then the real 5-star interaction began.. We were assisted by Blake, who was incredibly helpful in our specific situation.. which was: I had a LARGE framed photo that was a Christmas gift for my father and needed that to fit within the trunk of whatever car we were going to rent.. Blake pulled out a BMW X2 for us, which was just a sportier version of the normal SUV (slightly more expensive car to buy) and we realized after checking the trunk that the frame likely would not fit in the trunk, so without hesitation, Blake offered the larger BMW X1 without any price change, no hassle, just did some vehicular Tetris in the Sixt lot and viola, we had a vehicle with enough room for our large cargo! I can't say why so many other people had difficult experiences here, but MY experience with this establishment was incredibly positive and very easy. Likely due in large part to Blake, who was beyond helpful and incredibly personable as well. This last part doesn't really pertain to this location but I might as well include it for anyone else doing the same thing: we rented one way, and dropped the car off at the airport in San Diego to fly back. The drop off took less than 2 minutes and couldn't have been easier. No paperwork, no fuss, just handed over the key (with a full tank of gas, of course), unloaded our luggage, signed a screen, and we're on our way to departures. I'd absolutely use this location again, and with some luck, maybe I'd have Blake helping us again! Perhaps it was using Expedia as the intermediary to rent the car, or perhaps it was Blake helping us with our rental, but this experience was 10/10. Hands down. And I'd like to think I'm very objective when reviewing. Downside?: parking at this location is street-only, which was not an issue for us, as we are SF natives and are very used to finding street parking but it might be stressful for our-of-towners? That's the only downside I could think of. The cost of rentals is what it is.. I can't comment on whether it was really expensive or not because the price of your rental depends largely on many factors. Time of year, type of car, insurance, etc etc. it was fine for us, but, everyone has different situations and I reserved the rental a month in advance. Overall: fantastic experience. read more

Upon return, they claimed that we were responsible for the damage. We will be filing a complaint with HQ about this branch. I had the most horrible experience with Sixt in San Francisco. They overcharged my card almost $600 for a rental that was supposed to be $140 for one day. They also took my $200 deposit, so I was already out a lot of money before I even realized what they did. When I went back in to talk to them, they admitted they made a huge mistake. They said they would credit me back over $300, plus give me a $50 credit for the trouble. They even told me the crazy gas charge -- $180 for gas -- was way too high and they would fix it. After all that, guess what? They only credited me $51. That's it. After promising me hundreds back. Then I called customer service hoping someone would fix it, and the lady on the phone was extremely rude. Didn't help, didn't care, nothing. Sixt is honestly one of the worst places I've ever rented from. I would tell anyone: RUN. Find ANY other rental company besides them. And to make things worse, when I first went there, the employees were trying to do shady stuff. They literally told my husband before that if he gave them an extra $50 on the side, they'd "hook him up" with a better car. That's fraud. That's the type of people they have working in there. Sixt has almost no interaction with the customer. They photograph the vehicle on the way out and upon return. They sent me a picture that supposedly showed damage to the vehicle but the damage wasn't clear and it was 3 weeks after my return. There is no number to call and you cannot speak to anyone. Sixt Rent a Car gets 1 star from me for a completely unfair and stressful experience. After our rental, we returned the car and did a full walk-around inspection with a Sixt employee, who carefully checked the entire vehicle inside and out. He then signed the return document and wrote "No new damages were detected." To protect ourselves, we also took a detailed, time-stamped video of the whole car (interior and exterior, with close-ups) at drop-off, clearly showing there was no damage. Despite all of that, we later received a letter from Sixt claiming we had damaged the car and trying to hold us financially responsible. It feels like they're ignoring their own employee's signed report and our clear video evidence. This has turned what should have been a simple rental into a frustrating dispute. It's hard enough paying for damages someone else did, and then it really stings when you have to pay for a rental car while your car is getting repaired. It's tempting to go down to SFO and get a cheap rental. But I don't have a lot of time and I need convenience. Not only is this location so easy, it's got a gas station across the street to fill up. But most importantly it has caring and kind staff. They are sweet, empathetic, try to get you a good deal, and make it as smooth as possible. I will absolutely come back. One of the worst and unethical companies to deal with. My son was exited to rent a car to drive home for the holidays. When he got to the place, the quote they gave him over the phone was for an electrical car only. He has no experience with an electrical car and they offered no information. Needless to say, his battery was low after driving for 3 hours- took him 2 hours to find a charging station that worked and another 2 to wait for a station to be freed up. He returned the car the same day and took a flight home. The rental place charged him an extra $150 because he returned the car in San Francisco where he got it rather than San Diego. I plan to file a complaint with the BBB. Oh and to top it off- their customer service is all overseas and they are nit helpful at all. read more

Worst rental car experience we've had and we travel constantly. Had a blown tire in Italy and the Sixt roadside assistance did not speak English. We finally had to arrange for our own tow truck and tire repair costing $1000. Sixt then made us drive to Rome and exchange the car since they claimed the repair was not authorized by them. We rented a car, paid the deposit and insurance that's supposed to cover flats. We got a flat because the tire had a slow leak tear when we had picked up the car and we didn't know until we woke up in the morning after arriving at our destination to a flat tire. They had told us they'd bring us a new car and trade us out for the other car when we got the insurance, but that is was not the case. I had a narrow escape when my car reservation with these guys did not go through. I have rented cars with a debit card plus deposit from many other companies before. Turns out this place will only let you rent from them if you bring your utility bill and home rental lease. Of course I did not have these with me and (on reflection) would not see a need to give these documents to this shoddy scammy outlet. Whilst I was in the office I witnessed several folks returning vehicles - the staff (who were also concurrently and, thus, ineffectively running the desk/reservations) were filming the returns with their phones and claiming damages incurred to nearly all! I caught a ride to SFO and rented a Hertz with my debit card and zero problems or any need to provide my utility bill (FFS)! Plus - the Hertz rental cost ONE THIRD of the daily rate that "SHITZ/SIXT" were going to charge me. If I could give zero stars I would. This place has the world's worst customer service reps working there. Both times I have rented from here, the car I want turns out to be unavailable and the equivalent is NEVER the equivalent (ex; this past time I rented an SUV and they gave me a huge VAN). Also, billing was a problem both times. I was overcharged both times and charged a fueling fee both times even though I always refueled and took photos of the full gas tank upon dropping it off. I should have read some of the reviews and gone with a more reputable car rental company beforehand but to sum it up, they are very shady and will try to upsell you constantly. Like others, when we arrived after having had the reservation and car booked, they told us that our car was not available. They then told us that none of the similar cars could be driven by someone under 25yrs old (which is so strange because they didn't mention that anywhere during the booking). We were aware that there would be a young drivers fee as there typically is, but it doesn't make sense that all of the cars just simply weren't available if you were under 25. Then, the woman helping us tried to act as if she was doing us a favor by saying that we could upgrade and that she would even use her personal friends and family discount. It felt a little manipulative. When we were paying the difference, she kept pushing for different upcharges like insurance even though we already got the insurance when booking. read more

I've never had any problems renting with Sixt until I used this location. I rented a bmw IX ev for one month for a really good price! The pickup was smooth and easy, and throughout the whole duration of the rental no problems at all. Things started up when I returned the car. There was no available associates to assist me with the drop off in the parking lot, usually at the airport someone is there to view the car briefly and confirm the drop off and email you the receipt. I went inside and there was a line of people with only one associate at the counter, I quickly asked her if I need to wait in line to drop off. She said no and hand me the keys and your good to go! So I gave her the keys and left. A day or two goes past and I'm getting an email from Sixt saying the car is past due and to return it now. This is when i realized they still haven't sent me an email with my return recipet. Strange so I just respond to the email that I've already returned the vehicle with the date and time that I dropped it off. As the days move forward I'm hit with more emails about the past due until it gets to the point that they are saying if I don't return the car by xx/xx date that they will have to notify the authorities that the car was stolen. I'm also getting calls to which I answer and explain the situation to the associate. They all stated they will reach out to the branch and it should get sorted out. I also called separately twice to which I can't reach this actual branch but just the customer service line. Finally some 5 days I think after I actually dropped off the car I get an email receipt of the drop off in my email. But now the problem is I've been charged 500$ extra for these extra days! Lol I also can't go over the return recipet because it's written in what looks like German. So I'm out of town at this point and can't go into the location so I keep calling and finally get through to someone who says they're going to sort it out and I should see the funds go back on my credit card in a 3-10 buisness days to which it finally does. But it just doesn't end there because a week or so later I go to rent another car at Sixt in the sfo airport and they tell me I'm on the do not rent list. After calling and asking why they said because I owe this 500$ debt in my account..... Wtf i dont know what goes on in sixts system but they just really yanked me with this rental. It's got to the point where I just wanna pay the 500$ so I can keep renting from Sixt because I like their fleet. But now I can't get through to anyone to even pay the balance they just keep saying someone will reach out to me in 1-3 buisness days and they never do. Called 4 times now so I'm already like thinking this things long already I'm done. So I'm just waiting for the debt to go to collections like they said it would if I don't pay. This place has a 1.03 / 5 star rating from the Better Business Bureau for a reason, and I ended up being forced to file a BBB complaint myself. Sixt gave the car I had booked away and had no similar options and weren't able to transfer my reservation to another location. So they forced me into an upgrade--doubled the price of the original reservation--and were obstinate that due to the size of the location I shouldn't have expected the car I booked to be available. Spoke to Sixt corporate on the phone after and all they did was send a ticket back to the branch. Sixt's customer service told me I would hear back within 24-48 hours. I returned a week later after hearing nothing and was told a note would be left for a manager. An additional week later, I still hadn't received any information so emailed their customer support team. The customer support team uncritically accepted the branch's version of events and denied my refund. They confirmed I should have had no reasonable expectation of them honoring my reservation and then used the contract itself as a reason why I ought not to be refunded--despite the fact I confirmed at the counter at the time I picked up the vehicle I did not agree to the terms of the upgrade any more than I'd agree to pay a cancellation fee for them not honoring my reservation. My experience leads me to believe this branch never intended to honor my reservation and deliberately cornered me into forking out an additional $500. Their customer service team avoided the issue and then chose to falsify what occurred in order to save face. And perusing the Yelp, Google, and BBB reviews leads me to believe this is common practice for Sixt. read more

I rented from SIXT in June. I paid $471 for one week. A week after the car was returned they sent a bill for $723. I went to the company who said there was a monitor with all charges on the screen in front of me. That was not true. There was no monitor anywhere. I contacted my CC company to dispute and the BBB. I also discovered SIXT is being investigated for a class action lawsuit. Don't bother with SIXT. You'll spend the higher prices anyway. Good grief this was a bad one. I showed up to grab the jeep I had reserved online-I needed an awd to head to Tahoe. When I arrived they informed me they had no awd vehicles. Guess I was out of luck. Could they help me find if there was an awd vehicle at another one of their nearby locations? Nope they can't see inventory. Might they help by calling another Sixt location? Nope the locations don't have direct phone lines. Would their 800 number help? Not at all. Transferred twice to an unanswered phone. Surely their app could assist? Nope error message. My only option? I booked a rental car via Expedia from the SIXT first time in Sep 2024. My pick up time was 12pm and was delayed for over 1 h (after 1pm) due to the shortage of the car. I returned the rental car before 11AM (returned over 1 h earlier after10 days of rent). The staff took the car key and told me all set. Later, I found that the SIXT charged me $46.57 for the late return fee. And later, I found another charge of $43.98 for toll fee. The toll fee should be only $14. Upon completing the transaction it said it was confirmed. We got to the airport and went to pick up our car. We then discovered that the Sixt was at Orlando International Airport. Sorry to hear about the previous reviews. My experience was completely different. I called the 888 number last Monday to make a reservation. I went to the Mission location within 30 minutes. The car was ready, each of the staff was very nice and helpful, and I was out of there in about 15 minutes. The car was nice and clean, and the Sixt app already showed the car rental information. Today, I returned the car at that same location, and it was an entirely different team. They were all so courteous and the drop off process was even quicker. Was out of there in 2 minutes! I received the email confirmation about the return within a few minutes. And this was the exact same experience I had with this location a couple years ago. I got 2 Issues with Sixt at the S Van Ness location. Issue #1 I booked the car via Expedia. Pre-paid with $166.69. Toyota Rav 4 or equivalent. When I picked up the car, the agent CHRISTINA gave me a Volvo. I thought they don't have the car so they gave me the upgrade for free. CHRISTINA DID NOT MENTION about the extra cost. I was in a rush to pick up the car for my wife surgery and didn't check the detailed charged when I signed. Issue #2 Before I returned the car, I refilled with full tank across the street. I received the return email with full tank. One week later, I received a final receipt with an extra $157.71 "Fueling". So, my final car rental is now $495.13 instead of $166.69. I believe that they calculate carefully as my deposit limit is $500. I am very angry with this horrible experience. We were robbed (gun pointed at us) at Sixt car rental yet we have not received any clarification nor updates from Sixt to show that they take responsibilities for what happened to their customers at their property. We have been a loyal Sixt customer for years now. This month (October 2021) we rented a BMW X7 in Los Angeles and drove to San Francisco. As always, we would return the car at SFO; but this time the CS rep we talked to said we must return the car at Sixt Car Rental at Mission District, which is known to have the highest crime rate. We arrived around 4:30pm, parked at the lot right beside the entrance door and got off our car, when a dark silver sedan car stopped in the middle of the street, right in front of the entrance gate. 2 young "black" men in grey hoodies and black vest ran out to us and pointed guns on our heads. There were 3 of us -- me, my mom, and my dad. My mom was in the car, my dad opening the trunk when they approached him, while I just got off the right back door of the car. With two guns pointed at him, my dad calmly handed his expensive watch, and the second guy turned to me with his gun, demanding for my little backpack. Thank God, the car behind their car honked (since they were blocking the road) and the two guys dashed back into their car & ran away. More than 6 people (who were inside the car rental) witnessed what happened and the police came soon after. After everyone got questioned and we got our case number, the Sixt branch manager finally said we can return our car at the airport (SFO) since the car needs to go there anyway ... Excuse me? Now you say we can ? As a 24 y.o., I am traumatized by what happened and very disappointed with how Sixt handles this matter. 1) Knowing the area's high crime rate and the frequent robbery that has been happening, why was there not a single security guard or even man at the store? 2) Why make us go to Mission District to return the car, just to allow us to return at the airport later on? 3) Sixt has given us zero updates nor contacted us -- do we have to sue Sixt for them to take responsibility of what happened under their jurisdiction? read more

I usually don't leave Yelp reviews but just wanted to warn you to avoid this branch. I've booked Sixt+ in it, it's a monthly car subscription. I've only needed it for one month. Aside from issues around not accepting my credit card (yes, it's a credit card issued in another country so what?), people working there gave me the first car which had a "Check Engine" light on. I've brought this up and they gave me another car, which smelled like someone has been chain smoking in it. They gave me another car, which was dirty, so finally after changing 2-3 cars, we found the one that was more or less suitable. Okay. Every time I brought this up I felt like they are doing me a favour by switching cars until we find something acceptable that paid money for. Okay finally. But then when I returned the car, I've asked them to unsubscribe me from Sixt+ as I've only needed it for one month. They said they can't do it, I have to do it through the app. I find it very hard to believe they couldn't do it themselves but they guy was helpful in showing me how to do it. Unfortunately, something didn't work and a month later I got charged again for additional two months worth of rental, roughly $1600. Since then, I have been able to get a refund for one month, I am still not even close to getting a refund for the second month. Every time their support service has to reach out to this branch to confirm that I've not indeed been using a car, it takes ages for them to get back. Very disappointing as I've been using Sixt during Covid lockdown and had the best experience ever. Never going back to Sixt, especially at this poorly managed location. Also earlier I used to come to this location and they had coffee, drinks, pleasant environment and music etc. This time it looked more like a public space but without any people, and one of the agents is literally taking garbage out while talking to the client (myself). read more

I rented a car for three months for an extended trip. After one month i got a call saying the reservation expired and they were going to report the car as stolen. I called the number on the reservation which I guess is headquarters and after a long wait they agreed the reservation was three months. I called this location directly several times during business hours, and no one answered - instead I got a weird message saying something like 'due to events, no one can answer your call'. I drove back from my trip and they took my car away saying they couldn't "extend" my rental. Never mind that my three month reservation is completely documented. I feel totally helpless here - I paid upfront for three months. Seems like clear fraud. Not sure exactly if what recourse to take at this point, I guess I need to rent another car from somewhere else, but wow, believe the reviews. Hopefully I can get my money back. read more
