Now called "Sixth and Main The Salon and Spa," is absolutely wonderful. Their new building is so light and airy and inviting. I've been going to Hope for about 6 months now and couldn't be happier. She always listens and knows exactly what to do even when I tell her to do whatever to my hair. She always amazes me and I always leave feeling beautiful. I'm planning on getting my nails done at some point there, but I see regulars in there every time I go to get my hair done. So, that's a good sign! Highly recommend! China Blue has been my one and only hair salon for the last two years. The salon is always spotlessly clean and the staff is always professional. I always know that I'm going to be treated well when I come here. Yvette is my hair tech, and she can handle anything. I came in two years ago having never had my hair professionally colored and highlighted before and I was terrified. Yvette carefully explained the process to me and answered all of my questions. For months afterward, I received compliments on my hair. Seriously. I have dark brown hair and she placed blonde and red highlights in it that were just stunning. I was so very pleased. Then, I changed things up on her and went back to all brown with a red wash. No problem. My hair, again, looked great and totally natural. Just recently, I changed things up on her again and asked for a more edgy look. We went light black with bright red highlights. Boom. Done. And my hair looks GREAT. I've never been so pleased with a hair tech for so long in all of my life. Yvette is also a specialist in make-up and has given me a couple of tips over the years that have made a huge improvement in bringing out my eyes. What a difference! Jessica Dalton has been doing my hair for 2 years now. Not only does she do an amazing job, she is an amazing person to talk to for 2+ hours. Jessica always does what I ask, but will sometimes make suggestions that are more flattering for me. My hair is healthier now, despite my constant highlighting, than it's ever been. Yvette cancelled the appointment that I made to get my make up done for my wedding. I scheduled it at least 2 months ago. I only found out when I had one of my bridesmaid's call to confirm the appointment 4 days before my wedding. I am completely devasted! I have spent thousands of dollars on a single day, only to have the final piece not come together. This incident demonstrates a lack of professionalism, common sense, and sensitivity. Rebel Walker..... HUGE NO!!!!!! Awful!!!! I was Highly disappointed after reading good reviews about her and I had asked for her specifically. She completely messed up my hair! This was the worst experience that I have ever had at a salon!!!!!! Super cuts would have honestly been better!!!! I went in for a full set of blond highlights.... Specifically I told her that I wanted to "go as light as we can". My hair is a medium brown (not that dark already). Everything went seemingly fine until shampooing when she put some nasty goopy product in my hair and did not thoroughly rinse it out. Then once she took off the towel, my hair was orange & brassy! When I asked her about it, she said over time it would lighten up to be more blond. Then she barely blow dried my hair then scorched it with a flat iron, I literally saw her steaming my hair until it was limp and lifeless and orange! Then she decides to trim a half inch off the bottom so now I basically have a bob!! And now I have little shreds of hair stuck all over because of the nasty goop that she didn't rinse out and because she trimmed my hair while it was dry after she flat ironed it!!! WTH?! Finally, She finishes off by giving me a hard time because I want to pay with my debit card saying that she forgot her cellphone with her card reader. I tell her that's all I have to pay with, so she brings me to the front and when they ask her how much, she has to walk all the way back to her station to "check her own prices"? and then tells them to charge me $150.00!!!!!! What?!!! I was shocked to say the least! It was awful! Absolutely awful! Never again will I ever go back to China Blue! It's very sad and unfortunate. read more

I have thought a lot about this review and whether or not i should write it. However, i gave the salon and stylist an opportunity to make the situation better and it seems my hair is in the wrong. I came in about a week and a half ago to have my hair highlighted (partial) and cut by Eden. My appointment was at 4:30pm and i arrived at 4:15pm. Eden wasn't there yet so i waited. When she got there we went to her station and talked a little about what i wanted. She told me she was going to go go get me a cape and before i knew it she wasnt back yet but was mixing the color for my highlights. I had said blonde but hadnt had the opportunity to tell her i didnt want it honey or golden. I wanted it platinum. So when she came back i told her i was sorry she had mixed the color already but i wanted to make sure it was light and bright and not honey or golden. She said yup thats what i did. Well about 3 hours in she is finally done putting foils in my hair for a partial highlight. I wait maybe 10 minutes under the dryer and she goes and washes my hair out. When we get back to the chair i can tell the highlights arent light even but give her the benefit of the doubt and let her continue. Maybe once its dry itll look different. Well she cuts it. I remind her that i need my hair super thinned out (i have A LOT) of hair. She says no problem. She cuts and styles my hair (without any heat protectant or anything, pretty sure the last thing she had in my hair was shampoo) and tells me she knows its not light enough but it will take a couple more times to get it the color i want. Mind you my natural color is a dirty blonde. By this time it is 8:15pm i thought id be home to make dinner and now i havent eaten dinner and im 7.5 months pregnant. I leave thinking ok its not too bad i probably just need to style it myself. Well it was that bad. I pulled my hair up into a ponytail and its not thinner at all its lighter in weight because she cut 8 inches or more off but the bulkiness is still present. In addition when i pull my hair up the highlights on both sides of my head are noticeably lighter than on the top. The top barely looks like it was touched and all is golden/honey not platinum. I gave it a week. Washed and styled my hair multiple times and im still unhappy. I called the salon to ask what can be done and was told the owner would call me back. Well the owner didnt call me back Eden did. Fine, no problem probably means she rents her station. Well Eden basically said the color difference is because i have more bulk on my crown. What?! Your going to blame my hair? That she could thin it out and put 10 more foils on top but anything more and she would have to charge me. Are you serious? I spent almost 4 hours of my life here and $125 of my money and thats it? Im not asking for a new style or anything that i didnt initially ask for. No you cant touch my hair again. Specially when you think its my hairs fault that the color isnt right. In addition the texture of my hair is completely ruined. Im not sure what or why but its not soft anymore its really rough. Oh and the cut is super choppy. I have a section of hair that is 4 inches long and i dont have bangs. Im extremely disappointed and expected more from a reputable business. read more

I was given a gift certificate for a massage from my kids, the salon had changed my appointments 3 different times and when I finally confirmed an appointment and arrived, I was not impressed at all with the receptionist, very rude and snobbish as the other viewer wrote. I spent 15 mins in the waiting area being ignored and decided to leave. Getting a refund from the manager was a chore in itself. I would not go back, this is not to say the hair stylist there are not good but for massage or relaxation I would say save your money. I have heard Yvette the hair dresser is good and does a good job although I think she no longer works here. read more

I did not what to expect, but I was tired of trying to convey what I want to hairstylists, only to have them ignore me or misunderstand. This was my first time at China Blue, and I am glad that the stylist I got was Rebel. She was very meticulous and got to know my hair and what it wants to do before we even got started. She is very open to changing things along the way, and offered to cut my bangs for free when they get so long that I'm tempted to cut them myself! When I moved to San Diego 5 years ago, I struggled to find a hair stylist that did great color and cut and who was consistent. Look no further! ALICIA ROSSEN at China Blue is THE BEST. I am very picky, and I am here to tell you she does great hair!!!!! I drive 45 minutes every 8 weeks from Pacific Beach to to get my hair done by her. Always love my highlights and cut. She is always on time and you are in and out in no time (2 hours for cut and full head of highlights)! She charges a very reasonable price for her work. The area of Ramona is cute and quaint, so I do not mind the lovely drive up- it is so pretty. read more

Really have had an amazing experience every time that I come here. Everyone's super friendly and always does an amazing job. It's expensive but no more than any other salon- and at least they do it well. It's clean inside and very professional. I feel the person at the front desk was a little snobbish, she made me feel a little uncomfortable. I wasn't cheap with the tip (i always give 15% to hairdressers and that's a big tip) and I didn't complain about the price, but she wasn't super friendly and really didn't seem to care I was there. But the hairdresser was so nice and made good conversation even though I can tend to be quiet. read more

I always go to Virgie, but I went to someone else one when she was gone and they did a great job too. All of these stylists are talented and clearly experienced. I have going to China Blue to see Whitney White for many many years. I always enjoy going in to the salon which is nice, and welcoming. When I moved "down the hill," to Carlsbad I was wondering if I would make the hour trek up to see Whitney. It was such a dilemma because she is so great. I always walked out of the salon happy, and I had never been to anyone better. The first year I looked on yelp for a more local hair stylist. I know I am really picky, but surely in an upscale town like Carlsbad, I could find a good hairstylist!! WELL! I went to one, then another, then another!! Ok - I'm driving up to see Whitney just this once...my hair is a mess!! In the next hunt I asked anyone I could, who they used in the Carlsbad area. The problem was I really never saw anyone with great hair! However, I tried a few more! No luck!!! My daughter, who is the modern day Rapunzel, said "mom, let's just up to Ramona to see Whitney! It's not worth the money you have spent on other stylist's who didn't even do a good job! Besides, I don't trust anyone else!" That was it - I threw in the towel!
