I recently came here to get my first spray tan ever. I was a little nervous but the lady at the desk helped me through it. First, I will note, I came during the day on a Thursday, and there was only one lady working at the place. It got a little busy and I did have to wait for about 10 minutes. I did the versa booth, (which I believe they only have one of because someone was in there when I arrived, so I did have to wait a little more for that). I told the receptionist I wanted the lightest shade for my very fair skin and she came back with me to show me exactly what I had to do. I was a little nervous because I didn't want to come out looking orange or patchy. The movements that you have to do in the booth itself are a little confusing and the whole spraying process is very quick. There is lotion and cloth shower caps in the room for you to use, as well as a towel that they give you. As for the tan itself, I wasn't that impressed. Maybe I should have gone darker i don't know. So I have been to this location before and I usually come to them when I am going on vacation. They are convenient and literally a 1 min drive from me. I purchased a Groupon And it says " Expires Apr 9, 2019 Eastern Standard Time Must provide 15+ ID to receive services. If 15 - 17 years, must be accompanied by parent and parent must sign waiver. Appointment required. Limit 1 per person. Limit 1 per visit. Valid only for option purchased. Not valid for clients active within the past 6 month(s). All goods or services must be used by the same person." No where does it say you can not use this after having a membership or if you've used a Groupon in the past. I was 8-9 months past so I was able to use the Groupon in my eyes because I was passed the 6 months from being a "client" . I go to use the Groupon and the young lady tells me that they have updated their system and that it will not allow her to accept the Groupon due to I have used one in the past and I've been a member. I asked "then why does it say on the Groupon -. Not valid for clients active within the past 6 month(s) and i am clearly passed the 6 month mark" She says "Idk but our new system won't allow it but I can credit you the amount to a packaged" I said "Fine if that is the case then I will do that then I guess. I asked her - there's no way we can use this voucher I only need it for the 6 days ? It said no where about being a member before , it makes no sense .. I don't get why you guys would put the ". Not valid for clients active within the past 6 month(s)." It makes no sense to me. " She follows by saying "Idk they have changed a lot of things and the system won't allow it... but if I were you "I know I'm not allowed to say this or advertise another company but " I would just go to Beach bum if your only doing this for your vacation. They have where you can buy 5 for one price and they are inexpensive.. she goes by saying she used to work there. I told her " you guys are literally down the block from Me and id much rather go here.. so Can we just do the membership And I'll come in for my 6 days of tanning and cancel the membership before I go on my trip. She then starts putting my card down for on my profile And says "idk why it has level 2 listed twice, let me call my manger And fix it." Then before she calls she says " oh it's the enrollment fee your gonna have to pay the enrollment fee sorry." So makes no sense . I pay $31 and some change for the Groupon. Then I'm told I can't use it but it can be used for credit forwards a membership??? Makes no sense. Then I was will to pay remaining amount money for level 2 after she applied the credit .. but then I was gonna have to pay the enrollment fee too? I said forget it... I'm so over this.. this is such a ordeal.. I'm whyyyy over this. I then get home.. and see that my bank account was charged twice for two separate transactions of $1.00 of a total of $2.00.. which by the way she didn't tell me that would happen. So then I had to drive back to the shop and inquire about it and she's on FaceTime with her manager and the manager says "oh it'll be our back into your account By far the worst experience ever. Not to mention the amount of time wasted! Who recommends you to go to another tan shop, when your already in one? Worst experience ever. read more

My comment is on their unsavory practice and schemes of getting between you and your money. First off, even though I gave a debit card to secure my membership they were offering a salon credit for merchandise if I also provided a cancelled check. Why do they need a debit card AND a cancelled check? And the salon credit was being pushed hard. All I had to do was bring in a cancelled check. Again, why? I guess to have access to my bank account and routing number. I didn't give it to them but this was the first red flag. Then they continually changed member cancellation procedures! First it was ONLY in person, then it was ONLY online with a 30 day notice. The money was always taken from my account @ the 3rd of the month. I should have been good and out of their clutches after December and NOW I see a PENDING withdrawal for a HIGHER unauthorized amount on my debit on JANUARY 1st New Years Day!! Yes, two days earlier than normal and on a national holiday when they are closed, and when the banks are closed and it's difficult to disputes the charge!! Be warned. I came back to add that the membership cancellation is required through their web site because there is no receipt or proof you cancelled. Most web sites will send you an email confirmation of any transaction, they do not. The only proof you would have is if you take a screen shot of the cancellation confirmation window that is generated by their site. read more

I went there on Thursday April 18th. They have a pricing sign posted by the register disclosing that a single session is $10.00. The girl charged me $11.73. When I questioned how it came to $11.73, if a single session is $10.00. She told me it was with tax. ??? Am I stupid??? $10.00 at a tax rate of 6.625% would be $10.67 NOT $11.73. I tried emailing the company and got no response. Rip off company and stupid employees. Either that or they do that 20 times a day, they are pocketing the extra cash they collect. I've been going to this place since it opened . Not once did I have a problem . But I always wondered on how fast they clean the beds . How sanitary it really is , Well 3 wks ago I got ringworm . They don't clean the beds like they should and the stand up , the floor is disgusting . So very disappointing. This place has gone downhill . read more

This place doesn't deserve such bad reviews. Yes, very bad customer service, but who cares. The people who work there are not suppose to be your best friends. You get in and out. Yes, they probably do take your credit card and charge you, but I bet that's corporate making the mistakes, not the location itself. (Tip: do not give your credit card info, pay as you go instead) Speaking of the location, the place is very clean and spacious. I never used their taning beds so I cannot comment. I was certainly out of my comfort zone when entering Sizzle Tans. I had never had a spray tan before and did not know what to expect, especially after reading some of the past reviews. However, after chatting with the staff I began to feel more and more at ease. Similar to my experience with all human interactions, things got better and better the more time we spent together. My spray tan technician made me feel really at ease as she directed me through the choreography from start to finish. I was even able to address some of the negative reviews. It turns out tanning is a tricky process and can take a great deal of preparation as well as after care. I guess you can say it is a pretty sticky situation when it comes to tanning. When I spoke with the owner, he explained that many of the past negative reviews have been taken into account and their ways have been rectified (especially when it comes to the membership frictions.) I am not sure on how my tanning experience and results could possibly be any better so I am going with a full 5 stars on this one. Thank you Sizzle Tans. And I'll see you at the beach! read more

I used to have a membership here for over 2 years then I went to cancel and they refused to let me cancel. Kept charging my card, employees did not know anything ! Said they are not able to ever cancel a membership. Called headquarters and finally after 3 more months they cancelled it but refused to refund me any money. This place is an absolute SCAM! I was told that my membership could be cancelled at any time after 3 months as long as I sent in a request via certified mail (this seamed a little extensive and pointless, but I figured because it was such a good deal it wouldn't be a problem.) 3 months later, I came in to cancel my account only to be told that I couldn't do so for one more month. Conveniently for them, I was also told I would be charged an additional 'new year' fee on top of my regular monthly charge. I asked to see my signed contract because I remember being very thorough when signing up. This is when I became livid- The dates on the contract that I had originally signed had been clearly crossed out and new dates had been written beside it. The staff at this location was extremely unprofessional and told me that they were unsure why someone would tell me that, but basically I was SOL. Not knowing what to do, I went to the next nearest location and begged for help. The manager there actually told me that my account on their computer says that the employee who signed me up made a mistake. She ensured me I would be getting a refund and that I would have to take no further action. One month later, and no refund was given. I called the Sizzle call center and they told me my refund was pending. 5 days after that I called to bug them again for a refund. I was told there was no record of me ever cancelling my account or record of a refund. I do not recommend ANYONE attend this salon. RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL and UNKNOWLEDGEABLE workers. I am hardly ever a complainer and I understand people make mistakes- but there is a huge difference between making a mistake and deliberately scamming customers. I have a huge love/hate for this place. I'm not sure if I should recommend it because I've had billing issues in the past here. By reading other reviews, seems to be a big problem. I was charged for one month twice due to an employee error. Okay, no big deal, we all make mistakes, however, it took over 3 months and over 10 phone calls for them to finally give me the refund. I had to print out my bank statements to prove to them I was charged twice. It seems that the employees are really just not trained very well and management is pretty helpless. I think given more training, the billing issues would go away. Nonetheless, I did enjoy coming here because the beds are really good. It's also the cleanest tanning salon I've ever been to. There's a lot of rooms so you very rarely have to wait. I have since stopped doing UV tanning because of cancer scares. I have since moved on to their spray tanning. I've tried both the Versa spray Booth and the custom spray tanning. The custom spray tanning requires an appointment but is AMAZING. I got such good color and the technician was friendly and helpful. It was my first time getting sprayed by a person, which was a little scary, but they made me feel totally comfortable. I recently tried the Versa booth which didn't give me as good color, but it's also a lot cheaper. I will be back for spray tans when I have an event, or just want to feel good about myself. read more

I've been coming here for a year now and actually really like the place. I hardly ever wait to go in and the beds are always clean. I've never had a problem with the girls at the front desk, they are usually friendly enough and it's a brief interaction. But I went today and the girl was so outwardly rude to me for no reason, I was actually really taken aback by the whole thing. It came out of left field. She didn't try to sell me all sorts of upgrades and she gave me advice as to not burn again since my first time in the bed my backside burned. Two girls working together during the day today? Not sure. But the one standing. The super tall one brunette, volunteered to clean my bed that someone just walked out of. She literally walked in and out. Two seconds I'm not kidding. What did you clean? I'm disgusted. So I poured my Purell all overrrrr, YES I DID and used my towel and water bottle to clean it myself. I pay $65 a month. These girls are trash. I used to love the girls here. And the manager is not personable at all and seems to hate her job. She never remembers anyone's names. Not that it matters, but the old girls that worked here always just typed in our names and said hello and were warm and welcoming. This "manager" is miserable, not clean, and blah. BEWARE!!!! Sign up for three month tan, being charged once a month to tan. Never informed that it had to be cancelled. 6 months later I realize they are still charging me every month and will not refund me money even though I stopped tanning after 3 month commitment. Highly reconsider if you are thinking of tanning here. Came home from college for winter break and signed up for a "ONE month, NON-BINDING" membership the worker told me. Only to find a $200 charge to my credit 3 months later. I was completely unaware that you needed to cancel your membership, and totally mislead by employee. Im not sure if they are aware of the meaning of a "non-binding commitment" but im certain its not that. Also it wouldnt make sense that i signed up for a one month contract that i would need to cancel 30 days in advance. Therefore i would need to cancel the day i signed up...not to mention that when i went to sizzle tans to complain and to see my contract the employee who assisted me that day wrote "NO COMMITMENT" on top of my contract. I would highly suggest not giving them the business it is a complete rip off and to deal with these imbeciles is just an unwanted headache. Save yourself the trouble. read more

This place is a pretty good salon that gets the job done. Most of the employees could be kinder but two employees stood out to me that I think deserve recognition. Lexi is very nice and knowledgeable. Always a pleasure to see her. Tonight I came in and had an issue with my account (I purchased a few upgrades and they expired even though I was told otherwise). Christina was very attentive to me and sympathetic. She also had to take care of other customers while dealing with my situation. She handled all customers including myself extremely well. She greeted and said good night to every customer. She has exceptional customer service skills and its employees like the ones I mentioned who make people come back. So i bought a Groupon for this location in hopes that I would be able to "test" them out before I thought about joining for a membership. Well, the experience has been horrible. The Groupon was either two versa spa tans or one spray tan. I called to set up an appointment for the spray tan and was told that there was no one there to do the spray tan, so I opted to go with the versa spray option because the girl said it worked well. This was not the case. The mist from the spray was so light it barely touched my body and really only tanned my hands. I still gave it a shot because it was my first time using it and thought maybe that's just how it worked. I thought id wake up the next day with color, that also was not the case! So I called back the next day and spoke with a Valerie and explained my disappointment with the VersaSpa and she told me "yeah we've been having problems with the versa spa" !! Really??? Had I known that I would've waited until the spray tan solution came back into stock! I asked Valerie if she could see if I could get the spray tan instead of doing the second versa spa and she said she would need approval from her manager. Ok cool, I understand. Called a few times over the next couple of days since she hadnt called me back only to be told "yeah im still waiting to hear from my supervisor". FINALLY she calls back and says they gave me a CREDIT on my account for the spray tan! Awesome right? NOT! I called a few days later to schedule an appointment that night to be told (by Valerie) that she was booked. Ok- once again- not a problem Ill call back. I call in tonight and Valerie gets on the phone (shes knows my voice now) and says my name! So she booked me an appointment. I go in give my name and the girl at the desk tells me "$45". ???? I said what? Im not suppose to be charged i have a credit. The poor girl didnt know what to do so i AGAIN had to explain my situation. My account wasnt showing any credits!! She reached out to Valerie who didnt get back to her in time so i had to leave!!! The girl who was helping me called me an hour later to update me (which was nice!). Only to be told that the reason she didnt see a credit is because I already used it!!!! WHEN????? I havent been back to your establishment since tonight!!! Apparently it looks like they didnt credit me correctly and has my account looking like i used it! Now i have to call AGAIN and speak to Valerie. Its honestly insane that I have to go through this. I was 5 seconds away from signing up for a monthly membership but canceled as soon as I was told that I had to pay for my credit! How can you sit here and say that I used a credit on my account on the day you told me I couldn't come in because you were booked?? I purchased a groupon for the Totowa location. I walked in and was warmly greeted by the welcoming and super pleasant Jessica Danielle. I haven't tanned in years and she simply was a delight. She explained everything, chose the right amount of time for my skin tone and I was in and out! Too many people take time to complain, instead of taking the time to recognize someone who goes above and beyond! Two thumbs up to Jessica and the Totowa location. Girl at the front desk was so unprofessional when I went to sign up. She was on the phone with one of her friends on speaker the whole time and didn't explain any of the packages to us or the annual fee. When I was charge I was so confused and called and wanted to cancel my memebership. I was told it would be taken care of the the next month. But next month I was charged again and the manger Melissa was no help just kept saying since i didn't talk to her she couldn't help me I've seen such bad customer service and I had to dispute it with my bank read more

I've been going to Sizzle for years now and you can't beat the membership price or tanning beds. Valorie (she might be a manager) is very sweet. She gives helpful advice on which bed to use. Do not even bother signing up for their "3 month" package. I signed up Feb. 10, the manager of the location told me that February WOULD count as my first month. When I came back at the end of April to cancel, they told me I had to continue all the way through May. Basically I paid for the full month of February, March, April, and May. At the end of May I tried to cancel my membership, but apparently there is a new rule in affect that requires 30 days to cancel your membership soooooo now I'm being charged for June as well. I just cancelled my membership because I am finally at the point that I am fed up with forcing myself to keep returning solely for convenience. This is the filthiest tanning salon I have ever experienced. I moved to the area about a year ago, and prior to that always went to a different chain for my tanning needs. Never once in all the years I have been tanning, have I cancelled a membership, but I am so beyond grossed out at this point. Other than the cleanliness issue, the staff is miserable. I am made to feel that I am bothering them by walking in every time. Also, their prices are never consistent. Last week I upgraded to level 3, was told it was $8. This week I came back and asked to upgrade to level 3 again, and was told the price was $11. When asking about the discrepancy, i was told that last week they gave me "happy hour" pricing and they weren't supposed to. I have never heard of happy hour pricing, I just want to pay a consistent price and not constantly wonder what today's charge will be. Needless to say, i won't be returning, and would rather drive an extra 10 minutes to a salon that wants to keep customers. read more

They drained my account of almost $300 (at one time) for back dated charges. without authorization nor phone call, nor letter to my house, nor email, nor nothing. Had the best experience. Walked in and we were greeted by Jen! She took the time to explain everything to us and answered all my daughters questions since she had never been tanning before. Everything was clean and neat. The choices you have are fantastic. I have never waited any longer than 6 minutes! We now enjoy paying monthly (which is definitely the cheapest way) and the hours are perfect because we can go whenever we want! Thanks Jen..... You are the best!! read more
