Well, now I am super sad I will never be rich because Aura Head Spa was quite the indulgent experience, which I loved every single moment of. My family got me a gift card to Aura Head Spa for my birthday, and I am SO glad they did! To be honest, I was a bit nervous with some of these reviews, but maybe they've since gotten all the kinks out of their business because I had a wonderful time here. The lobby area is very cute and the check-in process was super easy with the very lovely front desk ladies. Gabby came to get me. I put on their robe, put my belongings in a locker, and headed downstairs for my 50 minute classic head spa with an added curl relief service. Gabby told me that it is a shared space downstairs so that we will be whispering when talking. I didn't mind this at all, and it did not take away from my experience. When I laid down on the table she put a warming mask on my eyes, which was glorious and began the whole process. She worked on my scalp the most - massaging, gentle scraping, using one of the vibration machines (sorry, don't know what they are called), and the water fall halo. All of it was AMAZING. I felt so relaxed and just entirely in the moment. The mini shoulder massage and facial were fantastic as well! As others have said, I wish it could have gone on and on! Afterwards, I went up to their blow dry bar and did my hair for the day. Even that was a lovely experience in and of itself. It was just the perfect me time I needed. Thank you Aura Head Spa. Also, pro tip - I was going to wear sweatpants, but decided last minute to wear jeans. I should have stuck with my gut and wore sweatpants because obviously you leave your pants on. I've been wanting to try a head spa forever. My girlfriends and I decided to make a girls day out of it. We made reservations ahead of time, which is important because they were pretty booked for that day. You could either park in the parking garage nearby metered parking or there's some two hour parking spots nearby as well There's a small little area where you get changed before going downstairs for the head spa If you are the type of person who likes to have your head and hair played with, I highly recommend coming here. The only downfall is I never wanted it to end. They scrub your hair, scrape your hair wash your hair. It all feels so good. I would say the only downfall is it is a little bit pricey for the service. I bought my wife a package here for Mother's Day for around $350. It included a head spa treatment and a full-body scratch. She wasn't able to use it until yesterday, and when she arrived, they told her she had to pay an additional $25 because their prices had gone up. I don't think that's right. We paid for the package in full when we purchased it, so the price should have been honored. A price increase after the fact shouldn't be the customer's responsibility. Unfortunately, this left a bad impression, and we won't be coming back. Came here for a signature head span with a friend who was in from out of town and wanted to try a scalp service . This was 75'mins for $200. They examine your scalp before and after and show you what your scalp looks like. The service is nice to experience and very relaxing. This service includes them drying your hair for the most part but no blow out or styling. You can stay to finish up and use their products and hair dryer . Jocelyn was amazing! She was attentive and I was completely relaxed. She checked in on pressure and water temperature. I opted for the basic treatment and it was well worth it. I appreciated the explanation of what to expect prior. I loved having a locker to put my things, the robe and tote offered, and the availability of products and blow dryers to use post treatment. It's very clean and welcoming. The only downside is the only privacy is a curtain between the tables. It wasn't a deal breaker or a huge issue since I was there with a group and you're obviously not exposed or anything, but I did read others found it disruptive for their experience and I can see how it could be problematic. First time at a head spa and wow -- such a treat. Aura Head Spa offers a calming experience from the moment you walk in. You're given a cozy wraparound robe and anti-slip socks, then gently guided downstairs to a serene treatment room where you're tucked in under plush, heavy blankets that make you feel completely safe and relaxed. I chose the lavender aromatherapy add-on, which was wonderful -- the scent was waved gently near my face multiple times throughout the treatment. The head massage itself involved a variety of techniques, but the highlight for me was a mechanical tool (I didn't see it because my eyes were closed) that felt absolutely incredible. The water jets that surround your head are also incredibly soothing. A couple of small notes: I wish the practitioner had asked about the water temperature proactively -- I mentioned it was a bit cool for me, and she adjusted it right away, which made a big difference. Also, the only downside to the otherwise luxurious setup was that the bedding smelled slightly mildewy. It didn't ruin the experience, but it stood out in an otherwise great service. Finally made it to the always booked Aura Head Spa. I was on the waitlist and able to get in for their classic 50 minute experience. I had a 10 a.m appointment and arrived at 9:45 a.m. They weren't open yet so I waited outside. Here's a outline of the experienced: Overall Concept is great but staff here needs more training. For spas, customers shouldn't wait outside. That being said, there's no waiting area. This is a small place. They didn't have any info on what to expect. Negatives No private rooms. Curtains divide the 2 areas. That's fine but the woman in the next space talked loudly for the first 15 minutes. I was tempted to ask for a refund. I couldn't relax, she was that loud. They need to post signs telling people to not speak. If you have concerns, perhaps put in email or speak quietly, don't converse with the person giving you your experience. The person giving me my experience got water in my ear. The experience was under 50 minutes so I didn't feel I got what I paid for. Positives Once the woman next to me stopped talking, it was relaxing. The neck massage was fantastic, almost better than the shampooing part. You can blow dry your hair. (Not style it but you can leave with dry hair.) I didn't feel rushed when blowing out my hair. The guy that handled the POS and the woman that did my services today were beyond kind!!! The scalp massage and the shoulder and neck massage felt amazing. I enjoyed my facial and noticed softer skin. A 75 minute head spa treatment... I can't even remember all the great things that were done to my head. So much attention to detail down to the moisturizer she applied to my lips. I felt truly pampered for many parts of my session . I would love to give them 5 stars but I think there's definitely room to grow. I want to be transparent and say that I think if you happen to be black and happen to have natural type 4 hair (I'm 4/a-4/b), prepare to do your own detangling. If you have silk presses or relaxers or locks or braids, your session will probably go flawlessly. Me however, with my pre-detangled twist out stood no chance. I got the signature treatment because I wanted the best they had to offer and I wanted to repair some tension alopecia I developed at the front of my hair. I saw on one of their IG posts that they said they're trained to deal with type 4 hair types. You never know what to expect but I went in optimistic. I've been wanting to try a head spa for a few years now and was thrilled NJ finally opened one. There are some I follow on IG where you can get your hair silk pressed, a lace front or other styles after your spa treatment. This one doesn't do styling but that wouldn't be a problem if their detangling and blow drying was on point. Ok so as kind as they are, I'd be remised if I didn't give my honest opinion and say: If you have type 4 hair, you're going to need to detangle your hair after your appointment. I detangled my whole head yesterday in preparation to get it done today and now I have to detangle it again post the appointment.. I wanted to see how detangling went without my intervention (I had a tangle teaser in my bag for styling post service that I almost told her to use but I wanted to see if they really know what they're doing with all hair types.) My roots are not detangled at all. She held the ends of my hair and combed through them with either a brush or a comb. I didn't see what she used, but we didn't get to my roots at all. The ends could use work, too. I was on my back thinking that maybe with all the treatments that it's probably coming out better than it was feeling, but it wasn't. She sectioned very big sections and worked through it very quickly. Looking back, there definitely wasn't enough conditioner in my hair. She was so thorough in all of my treatments that I think it was lack of knowledge and not a poor work ethic that resulted in the turn out. The blow dry at the end had no sectioning at all and there was no brushing while blow drying. Hence the picture of me looking like Marge Simpson..lol. My hair felt a little dry, but once I sprayed some water from the spray bottle I bought with me and added some of their leave in spray, it softened up. I tipped my stylist and was honest with the guy that checked me out when he asked for honest feedback. He mentioned they'd work on it and that they're trained to do 4b/4c hair but not all type 4 hair types are the same. Well neither are all type 3, 2, or 1 hair types but when people apply themselves, they learn to work with all tresses. Just saying.. I think they would do well to incorporate deep conditioning and sectioning and using a brush when blowing through natural type 4 hair. And just overall applying themselves in learning how to do all hair. If I can detangle my hair, certainly a licensed stylist should be able to. I shouldn't always have to go to people who look like me for proper service. And again, they were super kind and I loved 96% of my experience. But to go through a whole spa experience and have to spend five minutes, laying my hair down so I can walk out of the treatment area unembarrassed, and having to come home and detangle my hair after spending $200 + tip..enough said. I hope they don't take this the wrong way. I just don't want coily haired women going in blindly. I would totally go back AFTER having had a silk press. Or even if you go in with natural type 4 hair, you might have to instruct them a little. Disappointing to have to do that but it is what it is. While I do think the ambiance and the girl who completed my head spa were lovely, I feel the actual service left a lot to be desired. I don't mean any disrespect, but when the menu reads "scalp massage," I expected something a little more than the vibrating scalp massager, even if the massage was hands-on briefly. When choosing my massage, I picked one that allowed for extra massage time, only to find out the scalp massage portion was still extremely brief. I am confused what exactly happened there! I walked out feeling relaxed, but feeling like the session was incomplete and unfulfilled. While they have a good concept, I think techniques need to change and are a little lacking. On top of that, my friend purchased the signature spa, only to realize they completely left out the Hydrodhara, which really disappointed her. I had a 50-minute head spa treatment, where they ask for your preferences in scent, water temperature, and massage pressure, which is a nice touch. However, there were a couple of things that didn't quite meet my expectations. The shampoo left my hair tangled and frizzy, even after using their recommended after care products. The waterfall was lovely, but I was hoping for a massage similar to what I receive at the salon, where they really work the scalp, making it an experience I never want to end. This treatment felt more focused on relaxation and tranquility. I expected at least 30 minutes of deeper kneading and pressure. Overall, it was a lovely experience but not quite what I anticipated. Let's just say I feel terrible I asked my husband for a $200 gift card to this place for the "signature" experience after watching so many videos online of this type of spa treatment. Firstly, the place is tiny, with only two tables set up that are separated from each other and the waiting/check out area only by nailed together 2x4s and a curtain rod. The towel dress that they gave me barely Velcro'd shut because it was covered in someone else's hair. My therapist (who I selected because her name was all over the Google reviews) rattled through all of the things that would be done in the beginning and then never mentioned it again. They put on a paper eye mask (which was warming(?)... a very weird sensation) so I never knew what was coming. First it was something hot, then something icy, then something massaging, then something vibrating, on and on. It was like literal torture laying there not knowing what was happening next. Towards the end she was definitely on her phone or something because she was just sitting there while something dripped on me and I told her it was tickling me and she knocked over a whole rack of something which was so loud and jarring. The facial took all of 2 mins it was basically washing your face with cleanser, 15 seconds of a jade roller/gua sha and then some kind of moisturizer- again I have no idea what it even was because she didn't tell me. Then at the end she blow dried my hair IN THE SINK while I was laying there. Without even sectioning it off, using a brush, etc. just aimlessly waving the blow dryer around on my hair as it tangled into knots. I walked out of there with my hair feeling somehow extremely greasy but also very frizzy at the same time. I couldn't wait to put my hair up and run out of there. I had the classic 75 minute massage. While it was nice, it was a flat experience for $175. The technician was thorough, spoke as if from a script. She spoke in a rush, and during the actual treatment never said a word other than lie face flat, and flip over. I also felt she was rushed during my service as she was a bit rough with her turning my head and such, unspa like. She said follow me upstairs and then in a rushed tone again said I could blow out my hair, where to put my used towel wrap and such and offered me water which I said yes to. I was amused it was in a small paper cup. I couldn't tell you products she used, or speak about the treatment. I think this establishment has promise if they work on training their personnel better, and make it more personal and not have a feel of an assembly line. The actual environment is dark, cave like. It was very clean. Curtains separate stations. No private rooms. This is not a plus for the price tag. I made 2 appointments for myself and my best friend for her birthday. I ordered the Classic Head spa for 75 minutes. It was very easy to order on-line. We arrived to a very warm inviting lobby area. The 2 gentleman at the desk were extremely friendly, kind and answered every question I had. Then our massage therapists came and took us to the changing room. Which was very nice. My therapist was Mimi. Who was one of the best I've ever had and I was a massage therapist myself. She explained absolutely everything that she will be doing before we went downstairs for our services. All I have to say is Mimi definitely knows her job and I felt absolutely amazing after my service. The only way I can explain the head massage was when Mimi was massaging I felt like I had knots on my head and she removed every single one. The basic facial, neck and shoulders massage was amazing. I honestly don't have anything bad to say. If anyone takes this review and go ask for Mimi YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. For my first time going it was an excellent experience. They give you a robe that is intended for someone who is very thin and don't have any other sizes, so you are forced to walk through the room and down a flight of stairs unable to fully close your robe. However the person at the front desk is so uninterested we booked two 75 minute services and yes WE were 5 min late so taking time off for us being late is OUR fault however we were 5 min late and then waited another 10 minutes while our rooms were prepared and our therapists came out to get us so our service started over 15 min late and when I commented on our service being cut almost 20 min short he said well you were late and I said yes but we were 5 minutes late he said oh well and that was it. What an experience! Had a sisters day and both received the signature service. We both walked out loving and raving about how good it was. So relaxing and again its an experience you must have. The staff was professional, they explained everything in detail and they are good at what they do! I was so relaxed and calm and loving all the pampering. I will most definitely be going back and adding a head spa as part of my self care. The location is super cute and such a vibe. I read a few reviews that spoke about how everyone is separated by curtains and not actual private rooms but honestly it doesn't take away from the service or experience at all. Before you head in you are advised its a quiet space and too please only whisper if you need to speak. The room was full when me and my sister went and all I heard was the music playing and water running. Everyone was there for the same reason peace and relaxation so the fact that there is only curtains makes no difference.
