Shafiaq Khouli and his SK Concrete team built on our back yard a 14' x 14' SPA niche including a 12' x 12' x 5" reinforced concrete pad, foundation, drainage, three sides surrounding half high retaining walls and embedded SPA electrical wiring conduit. They also installed footing drain (French drain) on the back retaining wall, backfilled with the usual gravel, crushed stone and covered the outside of the walls with installed paneled stone veneer. They also did the initial former structure demolition, debris hauling and the requested earth moving and other necessary small retaining walls reassembly. It sounds like an easy simple job but, believe me, it got complicated quite soon. Along the construction way, I was able to interact with the crew and bounce ideas and corrections which were followed to my customer satisfaction, resulting in more than a very acceptable final product. When the inevitable, beyond his control, the one odd crew helper misbehavior occurred on the job, this contractor immediately corrected it, got on top of the problem and smoothly and quickly we had no more of an issue here. He also facilitated for me the customer to bring my own tile / stone wall-caps products and installer guys, which ended doing a beautiful job we're very proud of. Pricing fair, not inexpensive. Job done acceptable, with your own (the customer) continuous supervision and being able to stop working crew's irreparable mistakes before they happened, however, the final product came out well built and functional as we imagined and expected, we are grateful for that. Some clarifications: -Equipment was stored on my property last job. Paying 2 man hours of labor for daily pick up of equipment that is already on project site makes no sense to me. -My agreed upon labor rates never included travel time. -SK concrete wanted to do second project without a written contract initially. When pressed by me to have a written contract, he initiated a different one than I had agreed upon. It is for these reasons I write this yelp review. I had hoped I had found a consistent, reliable concrete contractor who practices his or her trade using written agreed upon contracts in a timely manner for my present and future projects. Great experience from beginning to end. The crew showed up on the day and time we agreed to do a walkthrough of the project. There were two spots where he said his crew could do the work, but said it would be really easy for me to do in a couple hours to save some money. Which I really appreciated him not up selling me. Then I received the bid the next day. After we went into contract his team showed up and started the work. It was started on Monday and pouring concrete on Saturday. They were great to work with and respected our house. What I especially appreciated was the care they took to ensure nothing around the house was damaged. SK Concrete is the best contractor that I have ever used. The owner stayed in touch throughout the whole project and is very knowledgeable. First, they removed a long old cinder-block retaining wall - fence. Then they build a new retaining wall + wood fence on top. That included removing a massive amount of old vines. This project required a bobcat to jackhammer out the old wall. The workers were technically capable, including use of rebar, cement, french drains and much more. Everything is well built and looks great. What makes SK Concrete superior is more than skills. All the employees were hard-working, friendly, clearly explained each step, and responded to my requests. The employees worked continuously to finish the job, except for holidays. There were no delays. (Unlike some contractors which may start a job, then go work on other projects.) Small concrete repair for my pool deck. I repaired the drain. I was told to lower the drain before they came to do the job. I did. They arrived to do the job. After 30 minutes they left for 2 hours. They came back & said they needed to lower the drain. I said whatever you think is best. They cut the drain this time. After the concrete was finished I noticed the drain was too low. Spoke to the owner, very rude. He said they were no responsible for the drain even though they cut it. I would not recommend this company. That is not true !! They did not leave to get materials! They had to go to a another job. The materials were already onsite, they left one worker to move 25 90# bags by himself. We did offer them to sit in the shade to eat their lunch. It wasn't until I was at eye level in the pool that I noticed the drain was too low. You cut the drain! I asked if I needed to put in a piece of rebar to hold the drain level. They said no, they would make sure it was level when they finished the concrete. See photo. Also, at least 2 edges are cracking after 2 days! See photos of how my other drains look & how this drain looks, the edge will definitely chip off soon. The existing drains look like a professional company finished them. The new concrete isn't level with the existing slab. I offered to get a second opinion, if he was wrong, he pays to replace, if I am wrong I will leave it alone. Also, he said my $1350 didn't mean anything to him! I work hard for my money! DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! THEY OBVIOUSLY NEVER DO ANYTHING WRONG! read more
