My son did a week with Skatedogs through the YMCA. He's been skating casually at the local skate park for a couple of years but this was his first set of formal lessons. If I could give a million Yelp Stars, I would to Skatedogs. Coaches were fantastic. Why are the Skatedogs coaches are fantastic? So I have a son and his name is Jaxon. Jaxon is a wildcard because he is on the autism spectrum. On the first day, I really thought he was going to be kicked out of the skateboarding program because he was overly excited and was making disruptive cheerful noises, he wasn't really listening because he was so fascinated by the ramps and his skateboard, and he has a thing of always wanting to go first. I was relieved that coaches were able to handle my Jaxon. They spoke to him in a calm manner and explained to him if he does this and that, it isn't safe and he might get hurt. Coaches were patient. In addition, the coaches were also teaching like 10 other kids in Jaxon's group. I appreciate the coaches' calm and chill temperament. You can tell they just want the kids to learn and have fun. I also appreciate the temperature checks and hand sanitizer at the beginning of class. The coaches at times have to hold your child to demonstrate a move or trick and I was really happy to see that coaches were really strict about sanitizing their hands between each child interaction. My boys have not mastered skateboarding yet but with practice, I think I they will be able to. Tips: - Think of cool and rad skateboarder nicknames for your kid. - Bring a insulated water bottle and a snacks. read more

My 8 year old just did a one week skate camp over the Summer in Arcadia. John, Eric, and Nathan taught the kids of different ages and ability with great knowledge, patience, and fun. All the kids seemed to have a blast. Instructors are great both with knowledge and kids. They have good equipment. I only wish it was available for more than one week. I took my son to the Dew tour and Skatedogs had a set up with Instructors John and Kenny. My kid had very little skill on the skateboard and over the course of one and a half hours he learned 4 or 5 skills and better yet, I watched his confidence grow and his serious face turn to a smile as he got a hint better at each skill. Just had my 5-year old daughter try a private lesson to see if she'll want to sign up for classes Skatedogs is hosting at her elementary school. Adam is a super patient and engaging teacher and really helped my shy girl feel confident by setting small goals she could reach after just a few tries. I was looking for some type of activity to get my daughter off the couch and outside in the sunshine. While skimming through the Long Beach parks & recreation calendar I saw the listing for Skateboarding classes & Camps. I immediately signed her up for the beginners class. The first class she was a little nervous and shy. She's never ever stood on a skateboard before. Adam, the instructor/owner was awesome! He is very encouraging, patient and helpful...but he doesnt hover over his students. He gives them room to breathe and skate. =) My daughter has completed 2 sessions & a camp. Such a great program I can't recommend them enough. The group of coaches that came to Huntington Christian school were awesome. I would watch the last 30 minutes of the sessions while waiting for my son and was really impressed with there coaching and there patience with the kids. I cannot go on about how amazing this camp is. My son is 6 and was his first time riding. By day 2 he was doing ramps without any help. It's such a wonderful experience as a parent to see your child excel in something they have always shown interest in. Our coach was "Shaggy Dog" who had such patience and knowledge- the kids just adored him. We live in South Pasadena so there were two camps closest Long Beach and Arcadia- we chose LB and was worth the hour drive. My son literally pooped out of bed in the am to get on the road to get on a board. I also like that they reward the kids with "bones" this is basically money they can spend at the end of the week in their mobile skate shop. The kids earn these "bones" based on listening, being kind and supportive to the group. Not based on skill or who is the "best" but to who really works as a team member. Showing boarding isn't just a solo sport- They also do Birthday Parties where they come to you with instructors, gear and ramps. You can order personalized T shirts ahead of time for party favors- such a unique and cool idea for a party! My son is already planning his 7th! I do have to note that Adam the owner is one of the loveliest guys- he is also working with South Pasadena now for a location here for classes/ camp for all the LA parents on the Eastside. I feel really grateful to all of Skatedogs for their time this week with my son. My son Joey is 8 years old and wanted to learn how to skateboard. I was reluctant because of safety concerns, but when Joey's school offered Skateboard camp with Skatedogs, we couldn't resist. Boy, was I wrong! Adam and his crew showed up with all the equipment to create an awesome skatepark for the kids. Safety was a top priority, which I loved. Adam's patience, and ability to teach these kids is amazing. Adam is Joey's idol! Joey is able to perform skateboard tricks now, so his confidence is through the roof. Recently, Joey had a birthday, and naturally insisted that Adam and Skatedogs handle his party. The kids had a blast! I could not recommend them highly enough!!! read more

Last summer I enrolled my daughter and son in a week long skate camp with a nice facility in South OC. My kids hated it and learned nothing. Since we paid so much money for the two skateboards, I was determined to see them ride the skateboards at least to the end of our street. I saw an ad for Skatedogs and much to my children's dismay I enrolled them for another week long camp. Today was the 1st day of the camp and my kids absolutely loved it! They were so eager to come home and show us what they learned. They learned more in 3 hours then they did all week at the other camp. My 10 year old daughter already said she wants to do it again next year. Both kids asked us to buy them a ramp...From the hour I watched, the instructors are really good with the kids, everyone got attention, instruction, and encouragement. My son has enjoyed Skatedogs camps and workshops a few times now and loves it. Adam is a really great instructor as he makes the kids feel capable of expanding their skills. I suck at skateboarding, but Adam (the instructor/owner of Skatedogs) doesn't. I was Adam's neighbor for a couple of years, and I can tell you that he runs a great company. He's also one of the nicest guys you'll meet. All of the skating equipment he uses is clean and top-of-the-line. My wife and I have a 3 month old baby boy, and we're hoping Skatedogs is around long enough so he can take lessons! I highly recommend these classes to anyone with kids. I hired Skatedogs for my son's 9th birthday. The owner, Adam, was great to communicate with and answered all my emails quickly. The instructor that came, Nick, was really attentive and good at pushing the kids to try new things, but was also aware of their skill level and supported them every step of the way. The kids had a blast and the parents all commented on how great he was. The party was three days ago and my son is still practicing what Nick taught him each day.
