FYI, we haven't even been at the beach since covid. So, yeah... first time in the water in a while and learning how to surf. With great instructors anything is possible and it is never too late to learn something new. In the water they made sure we were safe and guided us thoroughly. My wife was able to stand on the board on her first wave. It was really fun. I needed more help and they were always there to coach us right along. Fantastic experience with Mike!…read more I booked some time for me (A somewhat experienced surfer with years of rust who had fallen out of shape) and my buddy (Brand new to surfing but in great shape. Mike was great. Met us with board and wetsuits and met each of us at our level. He was very hands on and out there in the water with us the whole time. We met by the bathrooms of El Porto by lifeguard station 12 and picked up our wetsuits from their cars. From there, we headed towards a less crowded portion of the water by the rocks, and did a quick yoga flow before going into the basics of how to pop up and hold the board. After the lesson, we got assigned our boards and went off into the water. I think both instructors tried to spread their attention as evenly as possible. I was able to stand up multiple times and surf some one-foot waves (go me!). The time flew by, and once it was over, we brought the surfboards back to their cars. They'll take Venmo for tips. I would suggest wearing your flip flops to the beach since the ground was really hot, and also bringing a water bottle for post-surf. There's paid parking available in the lot although the meters seem to be broken since I still got a ticket even though my parking should've been valid. Otherwise there's very limited street parking. You can leave your valuables in the instructor's car. You can book private lessons on the website or small group lessons as well. Definitely book the lesson - it's a great workout and you'll have so much fun!

Jaz and his crew were excellent surf instructors to my two daughters and wife! Even though we won't be ready for the waves of the North Shore anytime soon, these guys are an excellent school! We had Dave and Bryce as our instructors and these guys knew how to teach some rookies from Colorado. The experience with Banzai was one of the biggest highlights of our vacation! We've used Kayaks on the Water three times at this point, once for a kayak, and twice for a paddle…read moreboard rental for my wife. For the paddle boards, they work with Stand Up Rentals. The processes are easy, though parking in the area can be rough. Come early! The kayak rental was very affordable at $12 per hour per person. Prices have increased, though, so now it costs $14 per hour per person. The first time you rent a paddle board, it costs about $50 for the hour, and you must complete the orientation. However, with subsequent visits, you get a discount for being in the system, which turns out to be about $26 per hour. The rental equipment is of decent quality and what you would expect over years of daily use. The staff has been friendly with us, and it's great to get out on the water. You launch right there off the beach into the canals! There are restrooms available right on site, as well as outdoor showers to rinse off all the sand on your legs when you're finished. For the convenience, we definitely recommend Kayaks on the Water! Fair warning, though, it can take over an hour to complete the loop for the average paddler.

We had all watched the video already so we were checked in and on the water in under 10 minutes. It's bearing the end of moon jelly season but we were still able to see some and even touch one or two. It's very neat to see them out in the wild, they are beautiful creatures. The water on the canals was fairly calm and it was an easy kayak route. We had a great time!
