I come here twice a week. The staff is so friendly. Welcoming vibes all the time. Some special events are coming for Easter, summer pool events, kid's camp, and many.... The pool is well heated even at the opening time 5:30 in the morning. I love swimming at 5:30 early morning. So quiet, warmly heated, good music. Lifeguard is always here to watch out just in case of emergency. Group classes are great for both outdoor and indoor. Awesome!! I reached out the Executive Director Jesse Pazdernik several times at the time of the incident requesting incidents reports and got nowhere which is why I have filed separate complaints separately. There should be a separate page for the before/after school program which is different from their other childcare for members and also their gym facilities. My child came home with multiple bruises that no one could explain and I know for certain did not happen at home or school. I can't show all of the pictures of the bruises due to the location on his body. This was not the only issue but the one that I obviously immediately removed my child from their care over. Please note that my child has been at the YMCA before at this location with different staff and at another location. The current staff is the issue and should be changed so no other children are abandoned or injured. Contact Social Services to review all the complaints about this facility before enrolling your child. There are other options in LB that are safer and affordable. read more

I am a long time member of the Los Altos Family YMCA. I rarely used my membership until I am met Sean, a personal trainer at the YMCA. A month before the COVID Feb 2020 lockdown, I hired Sean, to help me lose weight and get into shape. (Spoiler alert I have lost 30 plus pounds with Sean's help!) It was hard that first month. Sean was very patient in helping me get the right form and encouraging me even though I was barely lifting 5 pound weights. Then COVID hit and the gyms closed. Sean, on his own time, would text me and encourage me to keep eating right and to do cardio. Once the gyms were allowed to reopen outside I started training once again with Sean. I increased my weights and went from 2 days to 3 days a week. As of today I have been training with Sean for 1 year and 3 months (but who is counting). I am now doing more advanced weight training that includes squats and deadlifting. I would highly recommend the YMCA and Sean for anyone who is looking to get into shape but doesn't know where to start and/or feels intimidated about going to a gym or lifting weights. read more

My 3 year old daughter Julissa took swimming classes here last month and had the best teacher. Jesse was very patient with the kids, made sure each kid had their turn, and made learning how to swim fun. Julissa still asks to return to her swimming classes. We had to take a break because of other family commitments and she unfortunately missed her last 2 classes because of getting sick (back to school germs ugh right) but we will for sure be back and we hope Jesse is still there when we do. Hello Community! I have two classes that I absolutely love! Body Blast with Jade on Monday evenings, and Pop Pilates with Sam on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Both classes are a great head-to-toe workout that get me moving in ways that I would never own my own. I've been doing both for about a year now so it's fun to see familiar faces each week. Great ymca has a lot here . For being a smaller ymca there a lot of action going on here. Pool is smaller but nice temperature at all times. When useing this gym you have to bring your own lock for the lockers.. showers are open floor is always wet so be careful. The gym has lot of machines to choose from and you can get a good workout outta here. There camps are really awesome I see a lot of people take there kids here seems too me that is a good thing..staff are friendly and very helpful. read more

I've been taking the early morning spin classes and they're a great workout. All the instructors will kick your butt in different ways. I burned a ton of calories in Dave's class. Jade's class is very energy because she's usually on her 2nd cup of coffee by the time class starts. Marina will make you feel the burn with a lot of hills and occasionally surprise squats. Sam will challenge your arms and shoulders with weights; also see her for Pilates if you want to strengthen muscles you didn't know you had. read more

But this is what i know: - REALLY friendly staff - 1st time you meet them they feel like family - newly equipped gym with 4 treadmills, ellipticals, recumbant bikes, regular bikes - all with heart monitors. TV's available - tune in with your FM headphones. Weight machines. - 4 lane outdoor pool - 25 yds. - Clean locker rooms with showers. - A variety of classes for adults and kids. Membership fees are very reasonable. Conveniently located near CSULB. 12/27/2007 - ok so i've now also found the Lakewood YMCA. It is much bigger; has an 8 lane pool, raquetball courts, several work out rooms, full size indoor basketball / gym. Also clean; friendly staff. Much more expensive that Los Altos. read more

My review isn't for the entire facility, but for their swim program. We enrolled our pre-schooler in the swimming class at the Los Altos YMCA. The swim instructors/life guards there all seem to be college aged young people who get distracted easily and do no approach their part time jobs with any sense of professionalism. They are more interested in socializing than teaching 4-5 year olds to swim. Teaching, in and of itself, requires patience and motivation that most young people don't have as of yet, especially for a minimum salary. And teaching young children to develop a particular skill set even requires more competency and desire on the instructor's part. We didn't see that at the Los Altos YMCA, and we weren't the only family that noticed that it was missing. I don't necessarily blame the instructors; I know they have a difficult job, and they are young and perhaps inexperienced with certain things. I do, however, blame whomever is in charge of hiring and supervising them, and allowing their lack of effort to be displayed in full view of watchful parents. Bottom line, the facility itself seems small and basic. I don't know about their other programs. But if you intend on joining this YMCA with the intent on having them teach your young one how to swim, from my experience, I DO NOT recommend this particular YMCA. read more

Lately I've been growing dissatisfied with the Y. The rates went up. Their holiday hours were brutal. But more importantly, the gym is inadequately equipped for serious training. There are many services at the YMCA from child care, to swimming, to classes, to lots of equipment to personal training. This is a "gem". The personal training staff (my trainer is Sean Marlowe) is highly qualified in all aspects of training, they mix up the workouts so they are different and interesting, explain the various exercises and how they affect your body, and most importantly they customize the training program to the individual. The staff is customer-focused, professional and pricing is reasonable. I have been at this YMCA for approximately 8 years, and prior to that time at other gyms for 30 years including YMCA San Mateo, CA. Personal training here is the best I have experienced. read more

I love the Los Altos YMCA for so Many reasons; great early spin classes, a clean gym with new equipment, a knowledgeable staff that is always happy to answer questions, terrific children's dance classes and so much more! But at the very top of my list right now, is the children's swim classes! My 4 year old really struggled with getting comfortable in the water, to the point that I was about to give up. I wish I had read the reviews before joining the Los Altos YMCA. We'd been members of LA Fitness for a few years, but recently decided a more family-oriented gym would better accommodate us and our 4 year old grandson. The pool appears clean. There are a couple of lanes for lap swim and an area for free play. The water temperature is not too hot, not too cold. The weight room is clean. The machines are in decent repair. There is usually a cardio machine available, so the wait (if there is one) is not too long. Two of the 3 classes posted on the website schedule have been cancelled till further notice. I learned this through hit or miss as the otherwise very friendly desk staff were not aware that the class I was going to (when I asked which room it was in) was "no longer." Both times, both classes. I spoke with the person responsible for this (we eventually found her working out on a life cycle -- evidently she did not let the other employees know where she was going to be). I received a "bring a friend for free" email and replied to it to alert them that the class schedule link was still inaccurate. I had to laugh when the "sender" responded and explained he was no longer the membership director. It's been almost 3 months and the website schedule is still unchanged and inaccurate. I really miss LA Fitness, especially the Bodyworks classes. A photo of my before and after body would serve as a perfect testament as to how the Los Altos YMCA is lacking. Needless to say, we are looking for another family-friendly gym, with an accurate schedule and with classes I like. read more

This is the first gym I have ever been able to go to consistently and still love it every time. The child care team rocks. The classes are the best. The front desk team knows our whole family by name. Most of the lifeguards do too. The swim lessons have been great for my 3 year old. Mostly I love the familial culture of support. I haven't experienced the typical gym culture of comparison and judgement that I associate with many gyms. read more

This gym is ok. There is a lot of parents that go there to workout. The hours kinda suck closing at 8:30pm and closed on holidays. That is tough for a busy working college student. The staff are friendly, even the creepy janitor guy who stares at the girls. I went to this place for like 3 years for the student rate. But when they raised it, I was out. I've been a member at this YMCA location for a few months now and I love it! The staff is incredibly friendly and goes out of their way to make sure you enjoy your membership. I especially love the FREE kids club. My two kids love going and the leaders are always great with the kids. The gym is always clean and I've never had to wait for equipment! Ugh! This place is close to my home and I really wanted a family pass (I have 3 kids) but I will not leave my child there again! I signed my 4yr old up for the summer swimmer camp 9am-4pm. On the first day for pick up - they couldn't find him! After I asked several times if he was accounted for on the return from the park the response was "trust me, we are freaking out as much as you are!" The next day I spoke with the site director regarding my concerns, she responded with, "maybe you spoke to the wrong counselor, someone who maybe didn't know your child or where he was". I asked at least 5 counselors that day, they all said everyone has returned from the park. At pick up on the 2nd and third day they finally checked our ID's to see who we were. You can casually stroll in and walk out with a kid. THEY NEED TO CHECK ID'S EVERYDAY! AND IF THEY SEE AN ADULT, ASK THEM WHO THEY ARE AND HELP THEM FIND WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR. On the 4th day I decided to watch my child swim for the morning class. They had 5 counselors to about 30 kids line up for swim. They kids stood there for 30 MINUTES! waiting to go swimming. At one point the kids were left alone, 3 kids went to the back of the line,1 put his hands around another kids neck and pinned him against the fence. I will not bring my child back to this place. I left 3 messages for the supervisor to call me (secretary took notes on what I called for) regarding some concerns on safety issues, THEY NEVER CALLED ME BACK. read more

Friendly staff, clean interior, large locker rooms, and large (non-private) showers. I took my preschooler here for swimming lessons (and liked it better than the other Y we went to previously). The people teaching the lessons are more calm and patient and there is a good ratio of male vs. female teachers. Apparently, the teachers all work together well, too. When the male swim instructor noticed that my daughter was having a hard time with him, he had a female instructor come over to see if that would help get her in the pool (he didn't realize that it was the POOL and not him that had her not wanting to get in - lol). It didn't work, but I do appreciate the fact that he tried. Also, from the first class on, he remembered her name every week. I was amazed by that. On first glance, prices seemed steep for swimming lessons here, but after searching around, I found that this is one of the least expensive places for my little one to take group lessons....and since she is scared of the pool and doesn't want to get in, that's a good thing that it's cheap! Small parking lot, but there is a lot of parking on the north side of the bldg and in the park in the back of the bldg. I'm not a member so I am not sure about the prices for everything else, but prices for swimming lessons are a good deal. read more

Our elementary school uses the YMCA P.L.A.Y. program for PE. I wanted to share that my son (5th grader) has been raving about how fun PE has been lately. He is really enjoying their version of Capture the Flag. I hope they continue to think of creative ways to get the kids to be active and move their bodies. I love this Y. It's very much like a family and I come to connect with my friends just as much as I come to get my sweat on!! I like to take classes personally, boot camp, spin and Zumba are my faves. My kids take swim lessons there, we buy are Christmas trees there- we are all in! Kids club is amazing and all the workers are so patient and caring and Sarah just pretty much rocks all around and since she pretty much lives there- she knows everyone and is very helpful. i am extremely happy with the ymca, the staff cares for the kids and the communication is excellent my daughter was there since she was in kindergarten all the way to 7th grade, now my son is there too he is in kindergarten. The director is constantly looking for ideas to keep kids entertain and at the same time they spend time on reading and they help the kids with their homework. During the summer every week is a theme week they based their actives accordingly with the theme, and they go on field trips, different parks and different beaches and they have a main field trip like knotts. They also provide transportation picking up and dropping off to school in the area...I highly recommend this place i feel that my kid is safe when i am at work read more

Do not trust them with your children. They dropped my 5 year old off in front of the school. They did not walk her to class like procedures state, they forgot to pick her up and when my husband called to check on her, she wasn't even there. As he was calling, the school called to let us know she was still at school. She could have wandered off, or much much worse. An hour and a half after they finally picked her up she was taken back but not fed lunch. I called my mom to go get her because she was closer than me, and they didn't even ask her to sign her out or check her ID to see if she was allowed to pick her up. So many procedures were not followed and that is just asking for more problems. After I was able to get there the director stated he was only made aware an hour before, and I still never received a phone call from them telling me what happened. The lack of communication is unacceptable. He was only able to say that there was a mix up and that they were sorry. Unfortunately, sorry isn't enough, and we won't continue to risk my daughter's safety and well-being. read more
