My work place had rented Skateland out like they do every year so that the scholars can go skating. This year was different due to there being water coming on the skate floor so they had to put cones in that area so no one would go over there and fall. The customer service was great. Despite us having a very large group. The food and drinks were reasonably priced and it was delicious. I had got an icee and a slice of pizza. The atmosphere of the facility was okay especially since they kept us entertained. read more

This place has looked the exact same inside and out since I was 8. The only change is you have to pay for lockers lol (which like...doesn't make sense since it looks how it does). After living on the west side for 20+ years, I finally got to check this place out when my kids were invited to an event here. The staff who greeted us were friendly and told us how to get our skates and where to go. Seemed safe enough to us - they had good control on who was coming and going. I thought the place looked great inside - especially the locally themed mural work around the rink. The sound system and lighting were good, and we also enjoyed the pizza we ordered. Took my boys (7 and 12) here per my oldest's bday request. Had never been but we were so happy we came. Opened at noon, got there at 12:30 and it wasn't very crowded at all which was really nice for us. Had to wait like 10 mins for someone to help us at skate rentals but that was really the only hiccup. Got skate mates for my kids which they used and by the end did not need anymore. Music during the time we went was kid friendly and energetic. I brought my rollerblades bc I don't roller skate and my inner 90s preteen self was in heaven. It was sooooooo fun. The whole vibe was great and fun. Ordered garlic bread, souvenir cups (free refills day of purchase) and a slice of pizza. Not bad prices. Best part was when Bluey came out for about three songs. It's your typical indoor roller rink from the 90s that has failed to thrive in a part of town that hasn't received gentrification. It's not the safest vibe, my husband was weary and I was taken aback by the roller rink's metal detector However, if that doesn't phase you, then you can enjoy it as the rink is large and the food seemed pretty yummy! We came here because my daughters dance coach hosted a skating party for the girls. I'll be honest we were off to a rocky start because of the young lady checking people in. Even though one of my daughters was on the team she did not want to skate. The lady said it was $3 to enter so I was thinking my total would be about $8 at the most with tax. Well apparently if you are under the age of 18 whether you are skating or not you HAVE to pay a skating fee. Luckily for me (or them) not too sure yet (lol) we just used her paid for slot for her to get in. My youngest daughter had a GREAT time and loved when Malifiscent came out! It was such a surprise because we were not expecting it. Whomever played her stayed in character the entire time and even passed out goody bags. It was cute because she used her staff and glared at the kids while delivering them. Needless to say my 5 year old was in heaven. Whomever the skating referee (not sure their actual title name) was on duty that night was amazing!!! My 5 yr old was terrified to skate, but didn't want me out there. Everytime she came around to the space where there wasn't a wall; he always showed up, took her hand and would either take her to the middle or back to the other side so she could hold the wall. It was thoughtful and such a nice gesture im not even sure he knew the impact he was making. read more

Paid big bucks for bday party. Host was missing in action. Had to take pitchers to counter for refills myself. Everytime I wanted/needed anything i had to look for her, she never told me her name-if she had name tag on, I didn't notice it. Didn't get pizza until party was almost over. Didn't get party favor bag for guests as stated in package. When asked about token card, she said she put on table, which she did, but I didn't know it was there. Asked for ice water, she came back and said I needed to pay per manager, sister talked to him-got that free. Asked for plates for cake, she said they were on table, they were not. They did assign new host, but it was too late, party was almost over and damage was done. She was super nice though. Women's restroom was super gross, toilet paper in one stall with urine all over floor with toilet paper mixed in at beginning and end of party and no paper towels. The kids had a good time, because they are kids, but I would never pay over 400 bucks for a party there again. read more

4.10.21 Saturday 3:30-6:30 time frame This was our first time to skate land. Leaving a 4 star review. Would be five star with just a few tweaks. Parking lot seemed busy when we first pulled up.. a few people were waiting outside to check in and pay still. Upon entering you pay and get a wrist band. Then you go through a brief security check which I was surprised at first but happy about it as it definitely adds a level of safety. Even though the parking lot was full.. the inside of the facility did not feel busy or cramped at all. There was never a time I couldn't find a place to sit nor did I have a hard time getting around the facility. Nice looking facility. I feel it was clean as needed and was really well maintained in my opinion. I've seen a review or two about the skate floor.. I think it felt great and looked great really. I prefer a skate floor to not be "new" because I like the look of use and history. Nice paint scheme and newer looking carpet. Masks mandate is still in effect. And the DJ regularly reminded us using the loud speaker between a songs. We didn't eat or drink anything as we planned to eat afterwords. There were large industrial sized fans keeping a good amount of air moving. Music was pretty good and upbeat. Hip hop, r&b, movie sound tracks, oldies, and a few top hits. A bit loud but only by the speakers. Didn't bother me a any. We will definitely be back again. We've only been skating since January 31, 2021 so we are trying to get the feel of different rinks in the area. Met some nice people and lots of families enjoying their time. The reason for a mediocre rating is because this place hasn't changed since I went as in middle school and that was well over 15 years ago. Carpet was the same. same lockers, which many didn't even work. It brought back some childhood memories. Was this place always this expensive, or has it always been this much?!?!?! I feel like they have their set crowds on their set days so they aren't concerned with getting new people in the building, let alone new things within the building. When we were getting our skates, we told the guy our shoe size and he gave us skates. When we got allllll the way to the back where the restrooms where (because that's where we found functioning lockers). Our skates were huge. When we went to return them we told the guy we needed new sizes, we asked if the skates were all mens sizes, and he responded yes, so PLEASE someone help me understand why this man gave us women men sized skates when we told him our normal woman sizes?!?! We did have a good time. It def showed that we hadn't skated in 5 plus years. Age got to us. I would love to return again, but would hate to pay that price again. read more

Once you get past the metal detectors and the bag search it's a nice big rink. Too many littles crashing with those skate gates that never taught anyone how to skate. They need to limit the number of PVC pipe death traps they allow on floor. Need to do a better job asking those that do not know how to skate to stay in the center. Dangerous. This is the place where you can be a kid again. Even though I don't get to do it all the time, I love skating. I forgot how exhausting it can truly be trying to skate AND avoid running into random kids falling everywhere and in my case, a random kid pushing his walker right out in front of me. (Just rude!!) Anyway, the facility could definitely use a sprucing up. The skating floor really needs to be smoothed back out. I think that's what contributed to most people continuously falling. If you're not careful (especially since lighting is dim) you will hit a bump and trip. The rest of the place is typical; you got the area where you get your skates, mini arcade section, lockers, and concession. I went with a church event on this occasion and that concession was packed. I always go to Skateland for their adult roller skating session on Thursday nights and have a great time. This time I wanted to experience their Friday night family skate from 7-10 PM. I was greeted at the front door and was surprise admission was only $2.00! I had my own skates and didn't have to have to pay for skate rental. When I came in, I noticed two birthdays parties and different levels of skaters on the floor.The DJ and the floor guards made sure that everyone followed the rules: No food, no candy, no running, no skating in the wrong direction, ect. They had to continue to remind skaters not to sit on the back walls. They also had to continue enforced the rule that no one without skates are allowed on the floor. It was good to see kids having the time of their life at the rink. The DJ also played a game with the kids which consisted of them coming to a stop and sitting on ground as soon as the music stopped. I quickly excluded myself because once I hit the ground, I'm not coming back up! The skate floor was clean and free of debris. The only thing I didn't like was the sound system. It was horrible! I hope that management really fixes it soon. But overall good experience. read more

Full metal detector and then they went through my bad and used a wand thing to scan me. I get a bit of security but this is above and beyond. I was invited for a group event with kids starting at age 6+. It sounded like a good idea. It didn't take long for me to wish there were more options in our fair city. It took forever to get through the door in 4 degree temps. By the time we got inside all areas were 'spoken for' and we opted for a locker. Hint * you can't open it once you lock it, so keep what you really need with you. There must've been at least 5 birthday parties going on, congesting all throughways and the entire rink with little kids and wheels 'walkers' ($5 a pop, btw). Not an easy skate for someone such as myself, who obviously has spent a year or two too many off of wheels. As a group, we paid one admission to include skates, a slice of pizza & a drink. I stood in line for 45 minutes to get to the front of the line, as did everyone else. They seriously lost major points for their lack of efficiency. Why have two registers and not take advantage of them?! If I go again, and I imagine I will at some point considering it's the only skating rink left in town, I'll plan on eating before I get there & bringing my own water bottles / snacks in a backpack! Been going to this rink for years. Seems as if the management has given up on a prosperous business and isn't trying to gain a new clientele. Since my first time going, nothing has changed. No updates whatsoever. Lockers. Bathrooms. Concession area. NOTHING. My kids seem to like it so I still take them from time to time. This time was a catastrophe. There was a child's birthday party and some adults started to fight. Loud arguing and cursing all over the sitting area. Security eventually got involved and escorted a woman out. Children were crying, other adults you can tell felt uneasy about the situation. It's just sad that you can't have clean family fun without being subjected to the ignorance of some people. read more

The crowd was very friendly & had a great time skating to some nice old school music on the adult Thursday night session, but don't like it enough to put up with the inconveniences. I have to drive across town for this. There needs to be some serious improvements for me to come on a regular basis. 1.) They don't open the door until after 9:00, session is supposed to start at 9:00. 2.) The parking lot is cramped. I could hardly get my car out of the lot because they let people park on the ends of the aisle where it makes it almost impossible to squeeze through, plus it's hard to back out because the spaces are too close. 3.) The session is offered at the most inconvenient time for people who work regular jobs. 4.) It's also expensive, $13.00 + credit card fee that they don't mention on their website. Also, no one uses the new lockers because that's an additional $5.00. I think this business could be run a lot better if they would give better deals and put more money into updating their business. They seem to not care because they have a loyal following and don't have to make any real changes to stay in business. Also, the later it got, the more inappropriate the music got, so you might want to leave by 12 midnight! In spite of all this, there are some really great skaters here, so for that reason alone, it's worth a visit! The vibe is off the charts! read more

Went to Skateland tonight for the "skater things" party. Where was it? Lol There was like four balloons, 2 photo ops ( which was the same picture) No "stranger things" music. That was the whole reason we went. My daughter was the only one dressed for the occasion and there was no "best dressed". I'm not sure who was in charge, but this could have been one amazing party. We will not be going back unfortunately. Shame too. It's almost like a "clique" rink. Prolly the same people every weekend. Hopefully they will wise up and get someone in there that knows what they are doing. Also, the free waffle bar they advertised in the emails, nope, you have to purchase the waffle. 3.00 for one eggo. Lol I'm only giving two stars because the kids in there working were super nice and helpful. But taking away stars because the party they advertised, well, let's just say chuckie cheese puts on a better party. Lol 50.00 just to be let down. Not sure what to do on a Friday night? Seven words: All You Can Cram Family Pizza Jam. For only $8, Skateland offers all-you-can-stuff-your-face-with pizza and sody-pop and a way to work it off: three hours of rollerskating around piles of kiddos on a wooden roller rink! I did have a pretty great time here, despite the bad music, mediocre pizza and the fact that the diet coke was served in child-sized thimbles (i had to keep going back to re-fuel for my hundreds of trips around the rink). Whatever your skate level, you won't feel out of place at Skateland. I'm not sure what skate rentals cost since I brought my own. Overall, I'd say this is a great deal of entertainment if you can find your way here--it's hidden behind a bunch of stores and storage facilities near 38th Street and 465 and my Google map gave me bunk directions. I would give Skateland four stars if they would play better music, serve yummier pizza and offer adult-sized cups to the adults (or maybe two out of three), but I know I'm not the target demographic for this one. I usually visit on Saturday mornings. Today we decided to go at 4pm. It was jammed packed with kids who couldn't control their bodies as they attempted to skate around the rink. I'm not the best skater so I decide to sit with my 7 month old as my husband & kids enjoyed themselves. Unfortunately, a group of women got into a altercation and many children had to witness foul language. Security could of done a better job. They took too long to approach the woman that was threatening the other woman's life. Then she somehow came back in after being told to leave. My family enjoyed themselves. So just know this your urban rink in town. That's the expectation... With that said, it's a four. Now, ya'll gotta figure $2 Tuesday out with the lines outside the door. Like, no really. It's usually due to having one easier open during a day of the week. Other than that, the music is always great. Overall the place is clean. I just wish that they would do a little upkeep into the women's bathroom such as replace the doors add some wastebaskets for sanitary items etc. Staff isn't that friendly but they are efficient. Parents - a new policy for 2016 is you can no longer drop your 18 old or younger child at the rink by themselves. They must have a parent or chaperone. All adults have to sign a waiver at the door. Lockers for $0.75. I would highly recommend joining their email listserv and their Facebook group to receive notices on discounts, deals and special events. Lastly they are not open every day so make sure to check the website for their schedule. Also if you call they change the voicemail daily to let you know what's happening. My goodness. Talk about childhood memories! I had the opportunity to go to Skateland because I bought tickets to support the Arsenal Tech Wrestling Team. This was such an awesome way to support the team and also have a lot of fun doing so. There were lots of people at the rink (even though it was a Sunday) so at first it was a little hard navigating through the crowds of people. The line was a bit long walking into the rink. I really appreciated how the rink committed to safety and communicated the rules several times. This was good and kept people (even me) from not breaking the rules. They had little walkers with wheels for the smaller kids just learning how to skate - adorable! There were skate sizes for my little one, even though she hated having them on. I don't think she liked the sensation of skating - We probably need to wait another year or so when she has mastered walking ;) We will be returning to this rink and absolutely loved the music, safety, and facilities! Came here for a B'day party for little kids (early afternoon on a Saturday) and the atmosphere was more fun. The music was definitely better - think Radio Disney style: Listenable, current, and upbeat, without the unnecessary double entendres. No crowd whatsoever. Not sure if this is because of the shady area, or just the time of day. This place is probably scarier during the day because you can clearly see how bad the neighborhood and parking lot is. Pizza here is good considering it's just frozen food service style pizza they put through their oven. The prizes for the games are quite terrible. Limited arcade, but fun stuff for the kids, Ski Ball, etc. The tripods for the kids to learn balance are a rip off for $5. They are so cheap and become a crutch after too long. Not to mention it slows them down. It's better to let 'em fall. The floor is noticeably in need of a wax, even though it is smooth and even. Ok. So all in all it was nothing too special. Music. Skating. Kids. My boyfriend and I thought we'd try to switch up the cardio routine and go skating. Problem 1. The line to get in took FOR-EV-ER. Everyone has to fill out a little card with their skating experience and contact info. I get it. Liability and legal stuff but there needs to be a more efficient way of doing this. Problem 2. The lockers. Yea. Just don't bring along anything that you can't put in your pockets. 75 cents later I realized my first option didn't work and it honestly didn't look like the other ones did either. Problem 3. The walkers all the kids use to help them skate. I mean of course this place is filled with kids. Rightly so. But the walkers their parents rent for $5 are in the way. Kids fall every two seconds. It's worst than Indianapolis potholes trying to navigate around them. Problem 4. The music. I listen to current hip hop. I'm aware of "what the kids listen to now a days." The music just was not entertaining get the crowd involved type of music. I felt like the "DJ" (a kid playing iTunes tracks) just played the songs he felt like listening too while he text messaged on the job. Anyway. Again. Not a bad experience. I'll do it again. I booked my son's birthday party for Saturday11/13/21, and when I got there I was greeted at the door with great hospitality! My hosts name was Aliyah and she was awesome. She was very polite and professional. She made sure we were comfortable and even gave some of the parents extra chairs to sit in. Our pizza was hot and fresh!!! Aliyah was very attentive to the party and checked on us often. My son was so excited and says this was the best birthday ever! This is the biggest rink we have visited in the Indy area as far as actual skating floor is concerned. There are some rough edges on the actual floor, but it's definitely not the worst I've skated on. This is also the only rink we have visited that has a live DJ. We visited on a Sunday afternoon, and they played hip hop & R&B music exclusively. I don't think it was the clean version, either. I didn't mind because my son is older. However, something to keep in mind if you're sensitive to that kind of thing. There was a security guard who checked my purse on the way in for firearms and/or knives. I was surprised by this. It was very busy and a veritable "mine field" of little kids learning to skate. This doesn't bother me really since I'm able to navigate around them, but there's really no rhyme or reason to skating here (example: slower skaters to the inside, etc). They stop the music periodically to read the "rules", but nobody really follows them. There aren't supposed to be backwards skaters on the floor during all skate or people stopped on the floor, but nobody enforces it. 95% of the skaters here were little kids just learning, but there were some pretty Incredible skaters dancing and spinning all around. They were really fun to watch. We didn't use the concessions except to buy bottled water (at $2.50 a bottle). Admission was also the most of all the rinks we have visited at $9 each. We didn't rent skates, so I'm not sure how much rental is. Skateland also seems to have the most extended hours of any rink we have visited. There's an adult skate on Thurs nights that we might give a try. The things that would make this place a 5 star review are as follows: - the skating floor itself is HUGE and is wood and not concrete, but it has many rough spots, especially on the corners where the wood isn't smooth. The actual wood surface has a good finish and isn't too slick - the bathrooms were adequate and clean enough, but kinda janky and gross in an old way - it was a little hot in there, though they did have some large industrial fans, which we really appreciated. After several visits, we have learned that it is VERY humid at Skateland - it was really crowded on a Sunday afternoon. I mean, good for them for having lots of business, but it was one of the most crowded skating floors I've seen. Keep that in mind if you're learning and need a slower rink - the music was waaaaay too loud. They could have turned it down 30% (after several visits, it's always this loud and the lyrics are always explicit, even during family skate times) read more

Not only were there drugs on the floor, what looked like cocaine bags, the employees were rude and very inconsiderate. I will NEVER go there again and I advise everyone else not to as well. Terrible skating place, all around. The parking lot of tons of people in it just milling around. Lots of broken glass and such. The staff said barely two words to us, and the concessions weren't open all night. Drink machines are $2, which are standard price when you go to an AMUSEMENT PARK of value, not a hole in the wall. We made the mistake of going on adult night, which is their code for people to attend that are expert skaters. I can get around fine especially after I take a few practice laps, but these people are expert skaters and enjoy showing off. After it got a little busier, I was asked to stay in the middle since I was a "beginner" and keep the outside wall open for advanced people. There wasn't any signage indicating this, and I couldn't understand why they would want slower people in the middle since the majority of the skaters were in the middle, and there wasn't any wall to grab onto if you were going to try to stop or fall. Plus, you have to cross across the rink traffic to get into the middle. I've never skated anywhere that asked newbs to go into the middle - they always stuck to the outside wall. It would be OK if they designated that area just for newbs, but even in the area I was supposed to be, I was getting run into and clipped by fast skaters, many of whom were skating backwards and not looking where they were going. Otherwise, it's a pretty standard shit hole of a skating rink - dirty, old, worn, broken lockers, and disgusting bathrooms: pretty much what I expect when I go rollerskating. For that, I would have given this place 3 stars. But making me skate in the center of the rink without designating it as the area for beginners made me rage. My advice: go somewhere in a safer area. If you must go here, don't go on adult night unless you own your own skates. read more

SHORT REVIEW: Admittedly, I haven't ever been to the ultra-hip, smooth ATL-style skating rinks, so this place is the full breadth of my experience, and it's not all that bad. Go and have a good time when the kiddies aren't there. LONG REVIEW: There! Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let me expound on that and tell you why. - FACILITY: Skateland seems like the usual mix of ingredients lending themselves to a location able to be called a skating rink:. a large oval, wooden floor. lots of music. "food." and yeah, well, kids. When you arrive, leave as many unneeded items on your persons as you can in your car (preferably your trunk, because that's just smart anywhere you go), because their lockers aren't that great at their only job: locking. From the time you're outside the establishment you should be able to begin formulating some presumptions about what you're getting ready to get into. And I don't mean that in a negative way...just you should expect bright colors, grimy floors, unkempt bathrooms, tchotchkes, and lots of distractions, on top of your skating cardio routine. You'll have to fill out a Liability Waiver before you even step into the space, so prepare for that necessary evil. Once you're in, - SKATES: If you can help it, like bowling shoes, I'd bring my own skates. You don't have to, of course, as they definitely disinfect their wares after each and every wear. But for the germaphobes among us, you just might want to come prepared with your own wheels. - MUSIC: They play a variety of tunes in this place, largely dependent on the age of the crowd and the person pushing the "Play" button. Nevertheless, I'm sure you'll find a mix of adrenaline-pumping music to sweat to and smooth tunes to cruise to here. Overall, I don't mind it. If you're used to nice things and places, I think you should be more than fine enjoying your time here. Just go on a Sunday night when the kids aren't allowed, and go in with an open mind and empty pockets; everyone's just there to have a good time and....you guessed it, skate. read more
