I never learned to skate as a child. I went to Skateworld with friends about seven years ago, but never continued to practice. Recently, two of my friends found out that I wanted to learn, so we all went out on a Sunday evening. Sundays, Skateworld closes at 8:30. We arrived at 6:30 which gave us plenty of time. Open skate and skate rental costs $25 per person. It felt a bit steep to me, but I realize that they don't make money on much else so it's really not bad. They offer lockers at a price. There is free filtered water. It was a bit odd when my friends brought me a gift bag with knee pads, that they said no gift bags of any kind were allowed. It seemed odd as I thought children had roller skating birthday parties at places like this. At least they let us take out the knee pads and carry in the empty bag. Anyway, the space wasn't too crowded on Sunday, so it was easy to practice. I also rented one of those little wheeled walkers so I didn't fall all over the place. I was a bit bummed to learn that they didn't offer lessons, outside of their monthly "academy". I would have loved to drop in for a single session. All in all, it was a pretty good time. Got a text from them advertising a Sensory Friendly skate day on Sunday 10am-noon. I'm not sure I would call it Sensory Friendly. Yes, they play the music quietly and the lights are kept on, but there's so many screaming children with Skate Mates going in all directions that it gets overwhelming. I know they have a similar lunch skate times that are adult only at 10am-noon, but that's during the work day. read more

I come from a school in Oceanside and they did a field trip here. It was good I liked the retro vibe there from the late 80 to the 90. But one thing is that the food is very expensive so I recommend that you bring your own food. The skating area is pretty big and they also so have the helpers for beginners from last year they were 5$ for the whole time you're there. read more

Listen I give this 5 stars because I have skated here for 40 years now! I have skated all over the world, but please I cannot for the life of me figure out why skate world in San Diego being the only indoor rink has the worst music in all the lands across all the lands. The young white girl that gets on the DJ stand is the absolute worst!!!!!! She makes me wanna skate back up and get my money back every time the music is the worst there the absolute worst what's up with the DJs and the culture like it sucks to skate there on adult nights I expect so much more from this roller skating rink and it's a constant letdown sucks to spend money there, but I'm always gonna support you from a very concerned, loyal longtime skater. My friends and I used to come here often, so it's disappointing to see how much things have changed. Since George is no longer working here, the overall experience has gone downhill. The pizzas don't taste as good as they used to, and the customer service is noticeably lacking. it was clear the location was understaffed and poorly managed. In the past, service felt efficient and welcoming, but now it feels rushed and unorganized. The difference is noticeable, and not in a good way. This used to be a go-to spot for us, but unfortunately, it no longer lives up to the standard it once had. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and makes improvements. read more

Please ignore all Karen reviews below. There's always gonna be people who feel entitled and complain about everything instead of enjoying life in the moment. This place is great, so much family fun. Remember it's a family fun environment and if you don't like kids skating then maybe you should go skate on your public sidewalk by yourself and stop complaining. If you were a good skater and actually love skating then you would appreciate seeing everyone learn. The adults that come here are also very nice and help the kids and make sure not hurt anyone while skating. Also lots of teens still learning. Everyone has their own journey and it's a place for every one of all ages and levels. The girls who work here work very hard and maintain composure under pressure. April hosted my daughter's 7th birthday party and was super kind and professional. She has integrity and great bedside manner. I hope she can be promoted to management someday she is well deserving of the position. She is a hustler and great with kids and always keeps a smile on her face. I'm extremely grateful for all her hard work. The DJ played so many cool songs reminded me of when I was a kid and also played some new songs that everyone loves. Love for both the old school and new school. They also got a bunch of new claw machines in the back with some cool prizes. Won my daughter a SpongeBob plushy. My whole family came out and all my daughters school friends. Everyone left super happy and I never seen that many smiles on peoples faces during a birthday party. I guess this is our new skate spot. Ever since Roller Skate Land closed in the early 2000s, I've been yearning to find another roller skating place. This place has the decor, the music, but it is missing the vibe of what made roller rinks great back in the 90s and early 2000s. Wish they played more music from that era, but their music choice, nonetheless, is actually pretty good. The only reason why I gave it a 4 stars was because of all the kids. They have no sense of self awareness or survival skills and would fall right in front of you and you got to be quick to avoid them. They're always falling that I even believe a group of them fell just like dominoes. I'm definitely coming back here though. It is kinda far for me, about a 20 minute drive but if it's once a month, I believe it is worth it. read more

Such a fun place to spend any day, night, or occasion here. Came here a couple of times before and parking is always a nightmare. There used to be a parking lot behind the venue but it was roped off last time I went. The parking in the plaza is limited as well as street parking. You can park in the adjacent lot that's for the grocery store but it's subject to being towed. There's a waiver you need to sign before you can pay and skate. It basically says if you get harmed it's not their fault. The waiver is valid for a year. The skates runs a bit smaller than your shoe size. I'm a 11.5 in Nikes and went with a 10. There are no half sizes. 10 was snugged but it makes me feel like I have better control than the 11. There are a few places to sit and out on your skates. Next to the registration desk there are a few arcade style games and there's the food court. Prices are okay and has a lot of candy and pretzels and pizza. Think bowling alley type food. There's also a store in case you want to buy your own skates or gear etc The rink is wood floor. It's an oval shape. Way less than the size of a football field. If you're an okay skater, you can probably do a lap in about 90 seconds to 2 minutes. It goes counterclockwise. The outter area of the rink is for the less skilled and the inner circle is for faster, skilled, and people who generally like to do tricks but it's not mutually exclusive. Music is the best part. They always have bangers on. I went on a Saturday night and it was mostly rnb and pop. The other time I went on a Friday night and it was adults only. It was more of a mixture of rap, rnb, pop, and some punk. Interaction with staff is limited but they are chill and cool. There are bathrooms in the side of the building past the food court. Men's are on the right. Women on the left. There are no gender neutral ones. As the music plays there are strobing light and it's low lit. read more

I feel Skateworld is wonderful, I joined up to skate twice a week for Adults and loving it. I signed up my husband and granddaughter up for lessons in November and unfortunately we where to busy to attend, so they extended the classes for me The place is very clean and staff are so nice. read more

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for a birthday party. It was busy, but not too crowded. There were still plenty of tables and space. The place doesn't seem very modern, unless 90s is the theme they're going for. As a geriatric millennial, it was nostalgic for me considering I haven't been to a skate rink in forever. Anyways.. the skates for rent seemed to be in decent condition. They had plenty of those walker things for new skaters, but all short ones.. I think it'd be cool if they had some adult size ones too. There's a few arcade games for alternative entertainment, but not many. Also a small snack stand available. Staff was nice and the place was clean. It was warmer weather, and the had huge fans blowing for a bit more circulation. read more

23-Mar-2024 We've been going to Skateworld for about a month now and we are very pleased with our experience. When we first went we thought we would just go once; but it was so nice, and our boys had so much fun, that we purchased a monthly membership. It's only $15 a month per person and it includes skate rental. We think it's worth it. When you go you can also enjoy their delicious pizza and/or movie theater nachos. If you are a member you get a discount when you purchase snacks. The bathrooms are clean and the lighting is good. The music is great and they play a variety every time we go. My family is very pleased with our experience with Skateworld. We visited 8 times in the last month and each time had been just as fun as the other. From the security, to the person at the counter to the concession stand the staff are all nice people. If you want to have a good time skating go to Skateworld! Came here a while back with a friend and her kids and it was a lot of fun. They had guard things for beginners to use so they don't fall but it's really only for children since they were so low. The good: - The skates worked decently - The rink was well maintained - Not too expensive, given the current inflation in the economy - Nice retro feel, aesthetic, and music (they played POWERLINE of all things, yes from the GOOFY MOVIE, good lord, that made the day alone) - Neat events for kids, variety of skating things going on The bad: - The arcade machines are basically pointless/an afterthought - It is fairly warm in there, not scorching hot, but not super cool either - You'd think in the last 30 years they would have figured out a way to clean skates on the inside without your socks smelling like rancid butthole after wearing them And speaking of rancid butthole... The horrific: The men's bathroom was CLEAN, but the sewer main or something had blown open, covered by an orange cone. The smell was unbearable, like someone dumped an entire tanker full of piss and poop all over a room, then let it rot for a few months. I had to use the john with my shirt over my face to mask the smell and even that wasn't enough. Someone came into the bathroom while I was doing my dump in my shit-stall, and within seconds of them walking in, the (what I assume to be) little boy screamed "what the fuck?!", which was in response to what I assume was the nuclear waste level smell. I imagine many other people would be unable to bear the smell and would have to just hold their own waste in, unable to defecate or urinate, which would ruin many a day if it happened. I've been going to this skating rink for over 10 years, I actually celebrated my 15 birthday party here with friends & family. I'm currently 25 & got a membership a little after July 2025. I'm writing this review because after all this time, they have made my customer service feel unappreciated. The membership I was paying for cost $55 dollars a month. One month, I hadn't transferred funds from my savings to my checking account therefore my membership wasn't paid for. In trying to renew, I went online to renew it & ended up paying for an entire separate adult membership. How?, if my name & info was the same. Beats me...So, I was being charge $110 a month for a membership I was the only one using. Trying to settle this, thinking they'd put their best efforts in helping a loyal customer, they said because other people have multiple memberships under one name that they would not honor the over charges. Mind you, they are able to see who's scanned their barcode & on record it will only show one being scanned each month. This was all discussed in the same process of me trying to cancel my membership all together because I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant & medically can no longer skate. They failed to answer my calls to cancel & in being continuously charged I left a voicemail & was finally acknowledged by email where my attempt to resolve these issues took place. On top of the lack of safety during adult night skating sessions (one of my friends broke their wrist, the other broke their ankle), the lack of up to date music, etc. I'm just giving you a heads up to be careful spending your money here. The only reason this place is still in business is because it's the only in door roller skating rink in San Diego. I paid a visit to this rink during the Tuesday 10:00am-12:00Pm session for 18+ since I wasn't interested in getting clotheslined by errant kids with those SkateMate walker things. It was a good session...the locals were friendly and the music was good. The rental skates were as nasty and uncontrollable as can be expected, so I cut my skating short and watched my friend skate instead. The facility is clean, the staff friendly, and the floor was smooth. The place was stuffy; it would definitely benefit from better air circulation. The skate shop was well-stocked with skate brands such as Riedell, Moxi, Jackson Ultima and Impala in both adult and kid sizes, along with accessories and pads. There is a second location in Pacific Beach if this location doesn't have what you want. That's the good...now onto the bad about the place Why so many steps in a roller rink? The step down onto the floor is bad enough; too easy for a beginner or a returning skater like myself to lose their balance and eat it even before they skate. Fortunately, I found a low wall to hang onto while I entered the floor. The parking is non-existent. There is none immediately next to the building that isn't a tow-away zone. Park in the shopping center next door (enter by Yum Yum donuts). Parking is also available by the Linda Vista branch library at the rear of the rink. Lock your car. Looking forward to returning, but not until I get some skates of my own because rentals are a fall waiting to happen. read more

I attended an adult night at Skateworld and had a fabulous time! We seamlessly filled out our waivers and the adult night entry was priced fair. The rink itself is wood floor which is any skater's dream, but it is a little bit smaller than expected. Nonetheless, there's so much talent at this rink on adult nights that you will be learning new moves at every corner! What I absolutely loved the most was the DJ! He was playing all of the best skate jams to really get into every possible skate set out there. It's easy to get lost in the music here and fully immerse yourself! read more

"Sign a waiver" but your kid could slip and fall on steps. Why do they have steps anywhere in this facility???? I totally understand if you're having us all sign waivers IF your facility is perfectly safe with ramps everywhere. Everyone will slip & fall, but at least it's in areas where you break your fall. Where there are stairs, you can't exactly break your fall. You can certainly break your spine. And THAT is why I'm at urgent care right this minute with my son in a lot of back pain. Our new favorite hang out! My 8 year old just started roller skating and this place is helping us learn in safe environment. They rent skate mates for beginners. My daughter now wants to do it without the skate mate. The only recommendation I have for ownership - would be to incorporate a "beginner only time frame". Some super advanced skaters will skate around extremely fast & collide with the beginners who are putting around. It's quite overwhelming for newbies. I just think a reserved time for beginners and advanced skaters would be so nice. read more

We had a blast! I never found the assigned parking lot, we happened to get lucky and park right in front by the entrance. Getting your tickets online is a breeze and makes entry fast and simple. You can bring your own skates or rent them there. They have assistive skate devices for kids to use for rent, my kid loved having something to help her skate. We went on a weekend, it was packed. Masks are not required. They have a snack bar, mostly junk food. They have limited tables first come first serve, we never got a table but we were fine with sitting on the sides of the rink. The actual rink is a standard size and fills up with skaters quickly. They offer different skating experiences online. They have a small skate store inside where you can purchase skates and such. They have lockers as well. Bathrooms were not the cleanest. We plan on returning! read more
