A fun, no frills bowling alley! I had no idea this place existed until we were invited to a birthday party here. It's located on the SDSU campus, a great place for college students to hang out. There is no food available for sale in the bowling alley, but there is a restaurant next door, and you can go in and out, which is probably why they do it this way. I likely would have purchased something if there was something at the alley, but I didn't and felt like that was lost opportunity for the bowling alley to make more money. It's nice though that the bowling alley isn't a money grab. What I also loved about this place is that they don't have an arcade, which we all know definitely is a money grab that we have to budget for when taking kids to any other bowling establishment. They instead have pool tables, air hockey, ping pong, and a TV that can hook up to your Nintendo switch. It's nice that we can just enjoy a few games of bowling and then spend some mostly screen free time with friends. There is paid, 1 hour validated parking at the Trader Joe's nearby. we came here for off peak time bowling. Parking was on campus and we parked near the trader joes and hopped over. It's a strange feeling to go into a bowling alley on college grounds. Once we stepped in, it felt like we weren't even in a college campus! The facility is well kept and also quite new. The lanes are comfortable and spacious. Great place to take your kids during the summer (kids bowl free) and it has available lanes but I would suggest you call ahead to make sure that there is space available. Great price for three dollars on shoe rental and additional games after the two free games are pretty cheap. There is also air hockey and game rentals and many things to do there. This is an easy 5 star review! The staff and their dedication to service is top notch! It's been a busy year, so I dropped the ball on advanced bday planning for my daughter. I called last Wednesday to make a lane reservation for today, 10/29. Once I realized the offered party packages (includes lane rental, shoe rental, pizzas and sodas), I quickly upgraded to make my life easier... The contract was emailed to me within minutes and promptly returned. The day of the party, everyone arrived pretty much on time. The staff was welcoming, accommodating and attentive - they checked everyone in upon arrival and provided shoes as requested. Socks are offered for an additional charge as well. We last went to this bowling alley pre-pandemic, so it was amazing to see how much they've taken care pf the place - it's pristine! After a morning of touring SDSU and lunch in the Student Union, I took my kids bowling! Aztec Lanes is once again participating in the Kids Bowl Free program. Basically kids 12 and under can BOWL FREE EVERY DAY in the summer. You still pay for rental shoes but there are no lane fees. They also have family plans for a similar deal for adult family members and kids who are older 13 and up, which is what I signed up for this year. Keep in mind this deal is only during the summer. Check to see if your local bowling alley participates and sign up with my referral link: https://www.kidsbowlfree.com/referral.php?code=bniaog The bathrooms are family-friendly, intended for a single person (or a parent with a kid or two) and are large enough to fit a stroller if need be. Most importantly they were clean when I visited. I should note they had one dedicated staff person literally cleaning the alley from end to end almost the entire time we were here. If all 12 lanes are in use, you can just signup for the waitlist at the front. They take your mobile number and text you a link to a website to see your place in line and text you when your lane is ready. Like most bowling alleys, the house balls are beat up. And this place is no exception. The lightweight balls for kids have seen better days and most won't roll evenly down the lanes. We had two 9 pounders and they couldn't roll straight no matter how much my kids tried. They do have plastic kids ramps that are perfect for younger kids who can't quit toss a bowling ball safely. And of course they have optional lane bumpers to ensure no kid gets a gutter ball. Unlike most bowling alleys, Aztec Lanes does not have a snack shop. Snacks and drinks are available from one of several vending machines. I imagine that you might be able to bring food purchased in the Student Union inside, but I'm not sure. As my kids get older they've come to realize that Daddy is boring and bowling is not as fun for them as it is nostalgic for me, especially on the campus of my alma mater. I will keep bowling in the summers with my girls until the time comes when they are old enough to leave the house on their own. The best place to bowl! I took my cousins here to hangout and bowl a few games. In the future, I will hold a bowling party because the rates are amazing and it's so easy to make a reservation. The staff was very quick and kind in our email exchanges. Since the bowling alley is not huge, there are not that many lanes so I highly suggest you make a reservation. And it's not likely that you can come early for your reservation because the lanes will likely be filled up. It's a popular place! But because it's smaller, the staff are super responsive and quick to repair your lane when something goes wrong with the machinery. Get your parking validated for one hour by the staff. read more

This is a great place to go bowling in the SDSU area. They only have a 12 lanes so the wait can be a bit long however. I went there around 3pm on a Monday and the wait time was around 30 minutes. But the wait is justified by the pricing rate to bowl. As a sdsu student, you are able to get two free games a day when you provide your student ID. And any extra games you want to play are only $1. If you are a sdsu alumni, the price is $4 per game and any one else is only $5 per game. Shoes are $3. The bowling lanes can sometimes break down and get stuck, but the staff are quick to fix your issue. There is also a waiting area that has pool and ping pong for you to play while you wait. Great option for cheap bowling, especially for students. read more

This place is awesome! Only real downside is that parking is not right in front - you have to park at Trader Joe's where you have to pay. It can only be validated for a free 45 min - past that you have to pay. The lanes are pretty cheap though, with each game being $5/ per person per game (non student). They also have other games like air hockey or table tennis that you can pay by the hour for ($6/hour). Great space to hang out if you have some time to kill! Definitely not somewhere to go and expect to be able to play in 10 minutes because it can get quite busy from the students. We waited about an hour for a lane on a Monday night. read more

Aztec lanes is the cleanest bowling alley in SD! It's super clean, fun lighting, friendly staff and they play great music! It's in a way more convenient location than Viejas for a lot of San Diegans. I have one piece of feedback, it would be really great to have a student discount for non SDSU students! A lot of students in the area still bowl here but 5 dollars per game per person is really expensive for bowling. The two of us students playing three games each came to nearly 40 dollars! Some of the best bowling lanes my wife and I have ever played on! We stumbled upon here with our friends while visiting SD and we had such a fun time. The lanes are extremely well-kept and we were able to do glow bowling on a Saturday night. Bowling balls were color-coded and marked with their weight, a much appreciated touch compared to most other alleys I've gone to over the years. I haven't been to the new Aztec Lanes since graduating college. We decided to take our daughter's there, but ran into a bit of bad luck on our end. We called ahead to check wait times, and at the time it was only 30 mins. They have an online system that you can reserve a lane, time and amount of people bowling so you don't run into our issue. You can't make a reservation the same day, so its a matter of chance. Our luck wasn't so good that day. When we got there, the wait changed to 1:30-2:00 hours. We decided not to wait and bowl, but we will plan ahead the next time. Great looking facility. 12 lanes, 3-4 pool tables, table tennis. There is a side lounge to watch bowling and hang out. I came here today to play pool with my teenage son. It's hard to find a place to play pool with someone under 21. It's $5 an hour to play. We managed to play three games in an hour. (Obviously we're not very good.) The area where the tables are is clean with plenty of places to sit. There are a few vending machines with water, soda and snacks. I believe you can bring food in from one of the restaurants near by. The pool tables, cues and balls were all in good shape. They had plenty of chalk. We were lucky enough to find parking on the street...no meter and no parking permit required. Probably because school is not in session. I would definitely come back here to play pool and maybe even try some bowling. read more

I purchased a groupon for the bowling alley since my cousins had never been bowling before and we had fun! The bowling alley is not super huge but it is on San Diego State University's property so it is smaller and cheaper for the students to bowl. There are probably like 10 lanes, and they have vending machines and pool tables as well that you can rent for a fee. The bowling balls, alley, shoes, and bathrooms were all very clean (I have been to some really gross bowling alleys! haha) I would recommend them and go again without a doubt!! read more

I'm not exactly an avid bowler to be completely honest and I do use a child's ball because of my carpal tunnel, but I've been here a few times recently and I have to say it's actually pretty nice. The three of us have had some good times here and laughed pretty hard at my lack of coordination and general bowling handicap. It's safe to say that despite a lack of gutter balls, I still manage to somehow get the low score if they don't let me cross the line and cheat. Enough about my awesomeness in athletics. Aztec Lanes was not on campus when I was a student, which probably explains why it has that new car smell. It's located on the first floor of the Conrad Prebys Student Union building. The prices are pretty reasonable for non students, they also offer a small discount for lifetime alumni members and other 'affiliates' like: active duty military members, College View Estates members, Extended Studies students. ARC members bowl for free, except for the shoe rental. They have table tennis, aka ping pong and pool tables and Xbox One available for rent as well. We didn't come to game, but I did estimate they had at least a dozen game titles available. The pool tables were fairly busy every time we came, as you'd expect on a university campus. You can also reserve your lane in advance with at least 48 hours notice. There's no food here, and don't quote me on this but I think what I was told was that you can bring in food from next door and maybe the other places in the student union. I mostly just remember seeing people with pizza though. I've mostly just been here after dinner, so it's never been a problem for us. They do have the bumpers for kids and I think they offer a kids free bowling event during the summer that I read about. One last thing, it's SDSU and there's no such thing as free parking here. Be prepared to pay for it and if you actually think you're going to get lucky enough to get away with not paying, well enjoy your parking ticket, chump, because those guys have nothing better to do than troll the lots day and night looking for sad saps too cheap to pay the dollar an hour or whatever it is after validation.. read more

Solid place to bowl. I was super bummed when my old favorite alley closed down, so v happy to have found this place. Staff is friendly and will work you into the mix for a lane even when they are busy, just be nice to them and theyll be nice to you! We went to Aztect Lanes last night and it was amazing. The groupon deal was a steal . It was a little tough to find as its inside the SDSU campus and we were not familiar with it. We ended parking near KPBS and walking about 5 mins to Aztec Lanes. It's in the building with Starbucks and lots of other eateries. I came to Aztec Lanes with high expectations based on the reviews but overall I was disappointed. The interior of the place was really nice, definitely the best bowling alley interior I've ever seen. It is spacious, the lanes are pretty new, and the seating area at the lanes is very nice. It's also brighter and cleaner than most bowling alleys and I like that. And the balls are newer, clearly labeled by weight, and organized by weight. It's a very good atmosphere. 5 stars for that. The major issue is that the lanes and scoring were continually malfunctioning. First we had to move lanes during our first game because one lane kept turning off and they couldn't figure out how to fix it. Then there were repeated scoring and pinsetting errors: eight pins down and it scored as a gutter ball, eight pins down and it scored as a strike, seven pins down and the pinsetter took one pin away and scored it as eight pins, and on and on and on. I've never seen anything like this at a bowling alley and it was particularly surprising considering how new the equipment is. This really took away from the experience. 1 star for that. Other negatives to this alley: There is no food served inside, but that's not a big deal because there are plenty of eating establishments nearby and they allow you to bring in food. As a visitor (not an SDSU student), the price for games is higher than at most alleys, but not by much. A definite disadvantage over other bowling alleys is that parking is really expensive. SDSU even charges on weekends (UCSD does not). This isn't relevant for SDSU students living on campus, but if you are a visitor that is a big minus. You can also take the Trolley, but that can also be inconvenient unless you live near a Trolley station along the route. Overall, 2 stars seems right. Fix the machines and it would be 4-5 stars. read more

This spot is a close 1st place in my book comparing it to Brunswick Bowling. The ONLY downside is that in order to get here, you'll have to pay for parking if you're not a student but these bowling lanes are welcome to everyone! The staff was nice and friendly, obviously all of them are college students and since it's near campus it will always have that student vibe to it. Price wise it was very comparable to other places, but one of the many things I like about this spot is that if you want to play pool it's only around $5 an hour or so, pretty cheap! While waiting for our lanes we decided to play some pool to pass the time. The pool tables was clean as well as their pool cues, so no problems here! It was finally our turn to have a lane so we got our bowling shoes on and our balls ready to go. I'm pretty picky about bowling lanes if they're oiled or maintained nicely and this one was above my expectations! Our throws had nice spins and we had an awesome experience here, no complaints in my book besides the parking. If you're an arc member here you'll get even more discounts on bowling prices as well! Not only is it sponcored by Brunswick itself, so all the balls are various waights like a standard alley but they have many hand sizes for each weight!
