    Bryce and Hunter

Just wanna give a huge shout out to Bryce and Hunter. They help to entertain the kids and teach them how to skate, while also making sure everyone is safe. They had my nieces and nephew spellbound with their jokes, funny tricks, and magnetic personalities. They are a huge asset to your organization. Because of these two- we will definitely be back!

So amazing to have an outdoor ice skating rink right in Pt. Loma - wish it could be a roller rink year round!

I've bought season's passes for myself and the girls to go skating at Fantasy on Ice every year for the past 5-6 years, and it is now one of their favorite holiday tradition. This year, it's moved from Horton Plaza downtown to beautiful Liberty Station! What's not to love about ice skating? Outside? In San Diego! Because it's San Diego, yes, it's going to be warm. Yes, the ice may melt, and there might be puddles. Not all the time. Sometimes, the ice is very solid. In any event, my kids think this is part of the appeal. All the proceeds go to Rady Children's Hospital, which is great. And generally when I bring a bunch of kids, many of which have barely or never skated before, the staff on the ice are so nice and encouraging in trying to teach them how to skate. The details: Open daily Nov. 18 - Jan. 3, 2016, 10am-10 pm. Cost: $14/adults, $12 kids 12 and under; includes skate rental (and these are nice skates). Or, you can skate unlimited times for $40 (good deal if you plan to skate more than twice). Or, if you're really proactive, Circle Buzz (like Groupon for kids' stuff) has a 1/2 off season pass deal every year for just $20. You have until 11/18/15 to get in on that this year. See you on the ice!

I've ice skated a dozen or so times over the years. The skate rentals at this place are the worst I've ever used. It was a waste of $70.

I never learned to skate as a child. I went to Skateworld with friends about seven years ago, but…read morenever continued to practice. Recently, two of my friends found out that I wanted to learn, so we all went out on a Sunday evening. Sundays, Skateworld closes at 8:30. We arrived at 6:30 which gave us plenty of time. Open skate and skate rental costs $25 per person. It felt a bit steep to me, but I realize that they don't make money on much else so it's really not bad. They offer lockers at a price. There is free filtered water. It was a bit odd when my friends brought me a gift bag with knee pads, that they said no gift bags of any kind were allowed. It seemed odd as I thought children had roller skating birthday parties at places like this. At least they let us take out the knee pads and carry in the empty bag. Anyway, the space wasn't too crowded on Sunday, so it was easy to practice. I also rented one of those little wheeled walkers so I didn't fall all over the place. I was a bit bummed to learn that they didn't offer lessons, outside of their monthly "academy". I would have loved to drop in for a single session. All in all, it was a pretty good time. I would return to skate again.

Got a text from them advertising a Sensory Friendly skate day on Sunday 10am-noon. I'm not sure I…read morewould call it Sensory Friendly. Yes, they play the music quietly and the lights are kept on, but there's so many screaming children with Skate Mates going in all directions that it gets overwhelming. I know they have a similar lunch skate times that are adult only at 10am-noon, but that's during the work day.

Instead, I did a bit of digging and decided to book a room for the night through the Hilton website. The promo came with 4 tickets to the Holiday by the Bay event, which I thought was worth it for $150 with room and 4 tickets. But the price is different depending on when you go... I did mine on Thanksgiving day. Overnight parking is $35, or $20 if you are only going to the event. Keep in mind, most of the activities and attractions cost extra. Each ticket is $3, and they vary between 2 or 3 tickets ($6 or $9). Likes: - Very festive and lovely. - Lots of space. - Location is perfect right by the bay/waters. Views are incredible. - Unlimited slide rides. - Light show syncronized with music. - "Snow" - Selections of food/snacks/drinks So-so: - Did the stocking decorating which was fun, 3 tickets = $9 - Did the cookie decorating, was alright. Giant cookie, but 3 tickets = $9 - Kids did the ice bumper car - 2 tickets = $6. Too expensive for a ride that only lasted 2 minutes? - Son did the reindeer (bull) ride, too weak. All in all, we went on a night where it was almost empty. I would recommend they do a flat $28 fee which includes a wristband to try any and all rides unlimited. The stocking and cookie should just be 1 ticket, but limit the number of patch decorations to two instead of six. They can also consider adding a few more local art/craft shops from local vendors, similar to Christmas markets in Europe... Just a thought if anyone from Hilton is reading this. Nevertheless, we really enjoyed the experience, loved the views, and the great holiday kickoff. I may even consider having this be a Thanksgiving tradition.
