This is a good place for a birthday party. My daughter had a birthday party at United Skates, and I thought it was a pretty good experience, but I didn't like how disorganized the skate rentals were, and the metal detector at the entrance was a bit intimidating. This fall, we have been to two birthday parties at SkateWorld, and I think they were significantly superior to the party at United Skates. Better neighborhood (no metal detector), easy skate rentals, easier check in. Food was similarly bad (looking - I didn't taste), but there were more options to order if you wanted something other than pizza (they had wings, sandwich platters, etc.). If my daughter decides on a skating party in the future, we'll be coming to SkateWorld rather than returning to United Skates. My only concern is the parking situation. There's no problem for the Sunday parties, but on a Saturday, there really isn't enough parking for the venue capacity. read more

A very fun activity for whole family. The place is recently renovated with new carpet and paint. Staff are very polite and friendly! The instructor session is at very good time on Saturdays and Coach Joe is awesome instructor! The public sessions are long enough to get kids tired and adults take break in between skate runs. The reason for the one stat review; lack of up keep lack of care and poor employee attitude. Our experience was so bad my six year old daughter who loves roller skating asked me to never take her to this location again. I brought game tokens just to find out half the games were out of service and 2 of the five 'operable' games kept malfunctioning. The carpets have definitely seen better days, and I wish it wasn't a step down into the rink, but it was nice that they have a bench like seating area on the rink along the wall. It's a good spot for parents to watch or new skaters to take a break. They had a theme day for summer, which was fun for the kiddos. There was a camp there and several other families, but not insanely busy. the arcade is relatively small, and I never went into the laser tag area or the bath rooms. Food: We really didn't order food, just a drink. It did look like a typical roller rink/bowling/arcade type food. The service was quick, and they had a good amount of options. Service: Across all areas, everyone was super helpful and really kind. I had no complaints. Price: 11 for skating and 5 for rentals, plus 5 for a step-up device for new learners. It was not terrible, we participated in the theme, so our skate rentals were free. So I'd keep an eye out for specials being run. We definitely had a great time. For the past 10+ years we have made it our goal to skate in each state! We love to JAM, slow walk, and couple dance skate on Adult Skate Night. I soon realized there is a skating rink open nearby. If you can't think of anything else to do Skating is definitely an option! I haven't skated here because it's all about my kids when I'm here, but I'm not opposed to having an adult outing here. I'm not going to rate the food because I only buy the snacks for the kids but those types of snacks aren't up my alley. Watch the little boppers that serve drinks...either I make them nervous or they can't count, but they could gyp you on the correct size drink if you don't pay attention. Skateworld is a great place to bring bored kids especially when it's too hot out for them to do anything else. It's also a great place for Birthday parties. Reasonably priced and you get skating, laser tag and goodie bags for the kids. The Westchase schools are always giving out free skate passes to honor roll kids so we try to use them when we can, but the price point isn't too bad. There's a live DJ who plays decent music. The DJ also does the normal skate games. I grew up living for the skating rink at Hickman Airforce Base in Hawaii all through elementary school so I'm all for the kids having the same experience. I didn't notice any snowball rounds (couple skating only). Oh the days of hoping a cute boy would take your hand and snowball with you! First of all, do not come here if you are LGBTQ+, there is too much judgement and uneasy looks. You are also treated differently. Specifically, the employee with the long hair and goatee was obnoxiously rude. He was stern with us for no reason and when he went to put our laser tag gear on, he was grabbing us and putting his hands on our body. He used excessive force to put the gear on my family and was touching our waists. That made me extremely uncomfortable, and it was extremely inappropriate. He didn't even ask before he did so, didn't even tell any of us what he was going to. He treated all of us like a rag dolll. He was making rude remarks to my family and I about everything, was not friendly or willing to help, and rudely told us to throw our gear on the floor when done like we knew. My kids love this place and there is normally a good deal on admission. We have been a few times and the staff has always been friendly, place was clean and concession food decently priced. I guess this place has really turned around from prior years and I think it may be because it's new management. They have trainers for kids learning how to skate for an extra charge and skate rentals are included with admission. read more

Extremely rude security guards who is unprofessional. My friends and I came to the ADULT skate night on Saturday and were not welcomed upon arrival. Each time I come to skate world, this particular security guard (heavier set male) always has an issue. The first example was when my friends and I came with all of our IDs, one friend had a picture, and he yelled at us because of this when no other establishment has an issue with a picture or an ID. Let me start by stating that I am 30 years old. I have not roller skated, nor have I had the desire to roller skate, since I was in middle school. When some girl friends invited me to Skateworld, I was nervous. I HAD A BLAST. Walking into Skateworld took me back in time. I thought that maybe roller rinks would be updated since I was a kid. Nope - it was just as I remembered it. Private party rooms, greasy kid foods and soda fountains, cool roller skater kids. The works. Skateworld was an inexpensive night and they played pretty good music, too. Roller skating, I suppose, is like riding a bike as all the moves came flowing back into my memory as I raced around the rink. I will be back - maybe for a couples skate. read more

The upside: nostalgic, popular and safe place for simply skating. Choice of traditional skates or inline skates. "Skate Mates" are helpful "walkers on wheels" for beginner skaters as is the small practice skating floor. Clean and well staffed. The downside: Games are generally broken or out of order. Probability of machines eating your tokens is high. Speaking of eating, snack bar has few options, and none of them good for you. Place is fairly rundown and old. Kind of expensive. I spent $40 for the three of us to skate including a couple of skate mates at $5 a piece. When i first arrived I was in line for such a long time, only one person working on Easter weekend putting bands on everyone's wrist and filling out liability forms, it took forever to get into the place and i lost 30 minutes of the 3 hr skate waiting in line. The parking lot was kind of sketchy, no security from what i could see? Once i got in, I picked a locker to lock my personal things up in, cell phone, wallet, keys, shoes etc..the price was 50 cents for my locker, but when i needed something in my locker, i had to put another 50 cents in my locker, so each time i needed to go into my locker for something through out the night, it was a 50 cent charge? I was like you're kidding me!! I cannot believe the money grabbers these people are, where do kids get that kind of money to be putting into a locker for a 3 hr skate let a lone adults. I'm a 59 yr old female, i chose Skate World in Tampa last night to skate at b/c I had checked out their website before going and it was Easter Weekend 2018, so I decided to go, even though it was quite far from where i live in St Petersburg Fl, reason I chose this rink to go to in Tampa was on their website it stated it was family night, skating from 7:30 till 10:30 pm, and the reason i ventured this far was they said it was 80's night, music from the 80's all night long,I was excited to roller skate to 80s music like the good ol days! once i got their they were playing young kids music, rap, music not familiar to me at all? terrible! when i questioned the DJ asking him why they were not playing any 80's music, he said "oh that was a typo on the website, we played 80's music last night, but ill try and get some out tonight" I was quite upset about this, he played a few 80.s songs but not what i expected at all. I found the place very dirty through out, the bathrooms were gross, no toilet paper in the stall, no mirrors at all? unsanitary! The floor all in front of the food area is so greasy skating up towards the counter, I almost fell several times, like they haven't washed it in years! My wheels were full of grease going back onto the wooden floor! Most of the kids are not supervised whatsoever! i had a huge 16 yr old guy dart right at me from the boards and knock me over, thankfully I'm a good skater and managed to prevent myself from falling on my head and only bruises, no broken bones, I read on the website its $3 dollars cheaper if you have your own skates, once i got their they said it was $10 charge, I said well i have my own skates, and the guy said that doesn't matter, tonight everyone on Easter weekend pays the same charge to get in, whether you have your own skates or not? The floor on the one end was really rough, like someone had done a really bad repair job, and never fixed properly, dangerous! All and all this place is not a place i would ever choose to frequent again, very disappointing and run by all young kids, the manager, dj.s, young kid referee, I couldn't find one adult manager that i could speak to while there on Saturday night? This is the sister rink to United Skates in Tampa, they both need to be overhauled with new management!! read more

One of my favorite activities is to go roller skating. Skate World has very friendly staff and a large skate floor. There are lockers you can use for 50 cents to put away your belongings which come in handy as you can't keep an eye on your stuff while skating. It was VERY hot however, they turned on the fan halfway through the skate session and I know skating is a physical activity, but I don't know I felt like it was way hotter than other places I've skated at. This place had really horrible service we had to wait at least 5 minutes to get in and get water.

There were no size seven women's skates. Though we had come two days before and there were, we went today and there were non. The girl at the counter first said they never had any. Then she said they were just out. In the end she led with the plain lie of "the size sevens are unisex." The size sevens the girl handed me were clearly men's sized. So not only did they not have adequate sizes for all genders, but they also lied about it three times. And in the end there weren't any apologies from the girl at the skate counter. read more

Awful!!! The staff of 12 year olds are SO rude. My son had the skate buddy thing and one of them came and took it from him because he didn't have a band for it. We were with a birthday party and they PAID for them; the kids were sharing. The girl still took it and said I had to pay for one of my own and get a band. OK!! No.... Then when it came time to cash in tickets they let him stand there for 10 minutes before sending him to the back of the line to wait. He had maybe 25 tickets. He wanted 1 jolly rancher and some trinket toy. He waited another 15 minutes behind kids who had at least 150 tickets and didn't know what they wanted. Nice. Thanks. Broken games. Terrible skates. My daughter got a coupon from a party she went to that stated free admission for her and a friend and includes friday and saturday night. but the coupon could not be used for skates. The admission for friday night is $10 and includes skates if she uses the coupon she will still have to pay $10 for skates.. Wow really.. so the coupon is not good on friday nights like it says .
