I had my puppy groomed here last weekend and could not be more unhappy. They did not listen to anything I asked, and shaved my puppies face where I can see the skin. Besides that, it took over 5 hours and was incredibly expensive. The person who works there is extremely pushy and always trying to sell you something. The one thing I bought there was facial wipes for my dog....they were expensive and when I got home they were all dried out...probably bc they were sitting on the shelf for months! I understand fur grows back, but my once adorable puppy now looks like a monkey. NEVER going back. read more

I wish I could give ZERO stars!Customer service is horrible here. How can I book an appointment 8 weeks in advance to be told TWO days before they can't accommodate me? I work in customer service and I would NEVER talk to a customer the way these people do. I will never bring my pets to this place EVER again! I love this place and they have great grooming rates. However they recently have stopped taking credit cards for grooming and are now cash only. To be honest this makes me hesitant to come back here for grooming. read more

My first experience was amazing. Even tho I only went in to cut my dogs nails it was great. I have two chihuahuas and one of them is crazy if she doesn't know you or like you she'll bark and even try to bite if you get too close. The man that cut her nails was super professional as well as the other staff he wasn't afraid and she let him carry her and mind you she's definitely not an easy dog to get I even warned the man she'll need to use a muzzle or something so she wouldn't bite him, he used a cone but at the end he said "she's crazy?" I said yes she really is with strangers and he said "well she was very well behaved she's so sweet" I was in complete shock, but it's true what they say animals can sense things they know when you're not going to harm them. Extremely happy with my experience here. I took Mydnight, one of 3 cats as a trial. Mean I know, and I'm new to the area. But they were very accommodating. Very concerned with not only my pets experience but mine. I ended up taking my other 2 cats the week after. I had noproblem with scheduling. I was actually late 10 minutes. When they say cash only I think it's because of the fees associated with credit cards but I wasn't too concerned. I'll definitely take my gremlins back in a few months to upkeep their lack of fur. I decided to bring my puppy here to be groomed based on the reviews I saw here on yelp. I researched a bunch of other places but there was always 1 review in which a person was verynupset & Skillman Pets didn't get a bad review. The owner is very nice & caring towards animals. He was very receptive & helpful when I asked questions in regards to my puppy. Since this was my puppy's first grooming experience I was at ease when I handed him over because I felt that the owner truly loved animals & was sincere & genuine whence reassured me that my little boy was in good hands. I was told it was going to be $55 dollars & about an hour & a half, but after an hour I got a call that my baby was ready. As soon as I came in, my little boy ran happily to me & did not look distressed at all. He did a great job cleaning & cutting my boy, he even gave me a $5 discount. In the end, it was still kinda pricey & they add tax, but you can't really put a price on your puppy's happiness & well being. My main concern was my puppy's nails that were very long & uncomfortable for me & him. Unfortunately I believe the groomer missed the back nails as they are still sharp. All in all, this is a great place, you dog will be in good hands & come out looking & smelling fabulous, I only suggest you check everything on your dog before you leave. I'd reccomend this place to others & would come back again. 10-25-11 So i brought my yorkie back again because I loved the hair cut & my puppy seemed so happy. Unfortunately, this time was absolutely terrible. The haircut was great, BUT i checked my dog's pads, there are chucks of his skin missing. When he walks, there are little trails of blood. I am furious & upset. I can understand a few nips, but there are chucks missing. I believe there are 2 different groomers. This time the deaf gentleman handled my dog & i am not pleased. This is my second time at skillman pets. My schedule was move a day later becus of groomer not showing up or something. I get my both shitzu home after groomimg then I step out for sec whn I come home, I see blood all over the place I realize it was frm one of their nails. I knw it hard to cut his nails but dey didnt had to go dat deep..one more thing he wouldn't stop scratching himself..I had to wake up in the middle of night and give him bath to calm him down.. people who were working there was very frndly and helpful but still am not going back.. read more

We like the place. The woman we usually speak with on Fridays is nice. Our dog is well behaved and every groomer that has taken care of her have no problem with her. However, they keep upping the price. The first time we came here it was $55, then two bathings later they say $65...we let it pass. It's in the neighborhood and convenient for bi-weekly grooming. A month ago the owner said my dog is too big and says she's $75...a husky is bigger that her. Are they going by weight or size? We just wish there was consistency. It's not as if they told us last time, "hey, we're raising prices due to demand etc." They just flat us told us my dog costs more. The woman who we normally deal with called us back and said to not worry, forget what the owner said and we'll keep it at $65. She's been charging us that amount for months. If it were not for her we'd give the place less ratings for lack of customer service. At least they proved they care about our business. read more

I cannot give enough stars for the groomer Sharon. My cat is extremely nervous and in fact has anxiety induced asthma. Sharon is so good with nervous cats. she really loves animals and is quite soothing for my cat melo. she does an incredible job and does it quite fast. My cat is long haired and gets big knots because he will not let me comb him. Sharon is a blessing. If you have a nervous cat Sharon is the groomer for you. I cannot give enough praise for her kind nature and the way she has with anxious cats. Do not hesitate to go to her. she is the only groomer I trust with my beloved cat read more

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. I called right after I had moved my Maine coon cat to Queens with me and they took me in the morning I called just to check him out. They didn't have time to complete what he needed to have done on such short notice, but didn't charge me for the first consultation and worked hard to get me in for an appointment later that week. My cat had a Lion's Cut done, which I initially didn't want to do but had to because of his mats. It ended up being very professional looking and they were very patient with my sometimes temperamental cat. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the Woodside/Sunnyside area. read more

I came here to get my cat Wynstyn shaved due to severe matting in his fur, and I can't say enough how great of an experience it was! He was severely matted and in pain, and the entire staff (a manager and the groomer) were so friendly and knowledgable. I had the first appointment of the day at 10 am on a Saturday, and the groomer was about 25 minutes late (which was ok with me, I was in no rush), and they gave me the entire service for free! And even if I was annoyed that he was late, it would have been completely forgotten once I saw how wonderful he was with my very scared cat. He was so calm and Wynstyn really responded well to him. He made the cat look as good as he possibly could (I just wanted the affected area shaved), and took the time needed to do so. The staff really cares about the work they do, and it's very nice to find a pet store that exclusively sells all natural products (it's all I feed my cat and it's so hard to find in Woodside). They even gave me some free samples, knowing that I was waiting for my cat food to arrive from Amazon. All in all a great place to shop and bring your pet for grooming! I would just suggest making your appointment for later in the day if you're planning on being in a rush. read more

This is my first time writing a review but I am doing it because I always read reviews. I recently rescued a 1 yr old Chihuahua who needed to get groomed. I was told when I got her that I needed to beware that when she was frighten she had a history of snapping at people. Hiram, the young man who groomed her was amazing. She was very nervous when she arrived but after she let him hold her and pet her as if she'd known him forever. I have always been pleased with the store (clean & well-stocked) and now I just had to tell others. I am also glad they don't support puppy mills by selling puppies. I was looking for another groomer for my Pekingese and Lhasa Apso after a past bad experience. Was pretty traumatized and my dogs were starting to look like homeless dogs so I Yelped some groomers in the area and came across Skillman Pets. I am not disappointed at all! Ivan, who seems to be the master groomer there was extremely friendly and provided professional opinions but still took into account what I wanted for the dogs. His estimated time for completion was also accurate and I was able to plan my day around the drop off and pick up. When I did arrive to pick up the boys, they came out with the cutest designer cuts! There was special attention to detail and it wasn't the same cookie cutter cut on both dogs. I will definitely bring my dogs back and I highly recommend this groomer to others. I was very surprised considering the good reviews this place got when I called to book the appointment I spoke to the owner and we agreed I was gonna pay 55 dollars cause my puppy weighs 10 pounds when I arrive staff was friendly I admit at first. When I am about to leave I confirm the price, the groomer weighs my dog and tell me $65 that she weighs 10 pound I tried explaining to them that the man on the phone told me I was going to be charged 55 the woman sorry teenager that was behind the counter was very nasty and rude she couldn't make it any more obvious that she was annoyed. Instead of apoligizing for the mix up or trying to call the owner she got the balls to tell me are you gonna leave her or not? And ye it's only 10 dollar Differnce but why pay an extra 10 dollars when one I was mis lead and 2 the customers service was horrible the majority of places charges 65-70 so I rather take my money and go somewhere else and that's exactly what I did read more
