Grilled Grouper
Louise F.

If you like Caribbean lobster this is one of the more popular places on the Dutch side to try. Over the years it's been hit or miss but this visit it was good. They have a tank with all sizes from 2 lbs and up as well as Maine Lobsters. This is my go-to when I'm on the island for grilled Caribbean lobster. This trip they had flown in Chesapeake Bay oysters which were plump and juicy. The grilled Grouper was disappointing because the portion was small so it wasn't satisfying. The view is perfect for dining outdoors overlooking the Simpson Bay Lagoon. In the evening with the lights reflecting on the water it can be a very romantic ambience. The restaurant is open air so almost all the tables have a view of the lagoon. The menu is mostly seafood with a seafood market to purchase fish for take away. They do have some meats dishes as well.

This was one of the many recommendations we received from locals on the island. We stopped in on a weekday and there were lots of people inside. However, we did not have to wait to be seated. Our server was Junior and he was great. He shared some history of the business and what they've gone through following the hurricane. Added a nice personal touch. He also took great care of us. I really wanted to try a Caribbean lobster while we were here, but they were huge! Not sure I could have finished one if those on my own. They were very fascinating to watch in the tank and they don't have any claws like lobster I'm used to seeing in the States. I ordered a BBC and it was so good!! Little brain freeze was worth it. For my meal I ordered scallops with a side potato and salad. The scallops were seasoned very well and were filling. I also got to try lava cake with ice cream, very delicious.

Skip Jack's was a recommendation from a local person and they were spot on! Skip Jack's is a great seafood restaurant that's right on the water in St. Maarten. They have a variety of dishes such as fish, scallops, lobsters, etc. Inside, there are tables all around for seating. And the service staff is great...insightful, great recommendations, friendly, etc. Definitely stop by if you're in the Simpsonville area!

Amazing amazing experience, if you're looking for the best seafood on the island look no further. We were looking Forward dining here because of all the great things we heard. The service was immaculate and the ambiance was True to seafood culture. This will be a staple destination for my family and i any and everytime we come here.

On August 28, 2023, we stopped in for dinner. Surprisingly, there is plenty of parking in front and in the immediate area. I suggest backing into a parking space as it is much easier to get back out onto the roadway. The grilled grouper was on the pricey side, however, it was wonderfully tender and moist. The tuna carpaccio was perfect. The apple tart made for the perfect dessert and we probably should've ordered a second want to go!! Kelvin, thank you for the service and some shared laughs.

Let me explain the 3 star review. First visit was outstanding food (excellent fish and chips) as well as service! Prompt, attentive and caring to our experience! Second visit, lazy, expensive, long and mediocre. We went bigger on our second visit with the Caribbean lobster just to try it and it was ok. We also ordered another order of fish and chips and just wasn't as good as the first visit, go figure...just not consistent!

The food was outstanding, from the appetizer of crab backs, to the entrees of Mahi Mahi and Grouper, which were light and flaky, to the Shrimp Alfredo that was loaded with shrimp.

Had an evening dinner at skip jacks, the place was a little crowded for a Thursday night. The waiters were definitely had there hands full, it took a while to get to us and even then it was touch and go; it took about 40 minutes to take our order and even longer for our food. The restaurant was very loud with loads of chatter, kids crying and yelling. Just a mess. If your looking chill and relaxing spot I would not recommend. We ordered the crab artichoke dip, which was just ok, the crispy calamari was not very crispy or tasty , crab corn chowder was ok and finally the shrimp creole which was not great. Overall, I would not recommend this place, due to the very lack of customer service and extremely long wait time for your food.

Visited tonight first time. I chose the grilled chicken, husband ordered grilled mahi-- fantastically delicious! We never eat out, tonight was an exception and glad we found clean, healthy & delicious food. Contemplating returning tomorrow for the carribean lobster. Service was fast & friendly, great outdoor seating.

Well, let me first say , I had the BEST, Fish and Chip's here at St. Maartin, I really mean the BEST that I had here at three restaurants. We waited for Skip Jack's to open while we were here on our honeymoon. They opened the day b4 we left to go back to San Diego, US A . What a treat, staff are so friendly, food is so tasty and the place is so clean. Oh let's not forget, fresh lobster is available to choose from in their huge cage inside the restaurant , dri KS are GREAT to . This is a MUST visit while you visit St.Maartin.

Their ribs were the best we tried on the island. The oxtail was the best we tried on the island. I fell in love with the curry goat roti. It tasted like it came straight from Trinidad. I wiped my plate clean and wished I had taken a picture. I ordered the drink special and swapped the tequila for rum. Diane, the bartender, made it sweet and smooth with coconut cream. It was so good I am naming it the Ashley. If you like coconut and sweet drinks, you will enjoy it. Our waitress Joe and Connor took great care of us. The service matched the food. The ribs were so tender the bone slid right out. My boyfriend and I split them as an appetizer and cleaned the bones. The cheesecake was also delicious. Every single thing we ate here was amazing. I would recommend this place. We are coming back. I want the curry shrimp next time and my boyfriend plans to get the curry goat again.

We made reservations before we arrived, although they really weren't necessary--but how were we to know? We were seated at a lovely table overlooking the marina, and once the sun went down, the twinkling lights reflecting on the water created a beautiful atmosphere. There was also a wonderful breeze, which was such a pleasant surprise for July. We expected it to be much hotter! I ordered the surf and turf with my choice of three different steaks and selected the ribeye with a half lobster tail. The ribeye was enormous, cooked perfectly, and seasoned so well that every bite was bursting with flavor. The lobster tail was tender and delicious. The portion was so generous that I ended up sharing my steak with my husband! The rice and peas were so good that he kept scooping them onto his plate--and he's definitely not a rice-and-peas kind of guy! He's usually a mashed potato guy...as you can tell from his own plate! It was hands down some of the best I've had in a very long time. The crispy tostones were the perfect compliment . He ordered the Grouper topped with lobster sauce, and really enjoyed it. His side choice was mashed potatoes and vegetables. I had a bite and concur the group. It was very moist and the sauce. It was just delicious. I had peaked at the menu prior to arriving and that's what I had every intention of ordering but then when I saw the surf and turf I was like, hey why not let's celebrate at $66 I didn't think it was much of an issue As a really nice surprise and great gesture, a molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and fresh whipped cream was delivered to us with happy anniversary wishes on the house. We've been visiting the island for over 25 years, often several times a year, and somehow this was our first visit to this restaurant. It definitely won't be our last. Highly recommended!

The appetizers took an hour to come out and I have no idea what the cooks were doing. The food was cold and spoke to the chef and all he did was take off for the cheapest meal and which was cold also. If I could give a no star I would. Food was cold and tough. I spoke with the head chef Carlos not really wanting to appease to our experience. We didn't even get an apology for the long wait. This is my family's first and last time going there. Especially being on vacation. I highly doubt not recommend this place at all and it's highly disappointing due to the location of the place that set the ambiance off from what could've been a memorable moment.

As I stated before the waiters and servers were top notch. With that said, the kitchen was the issue. My wife ordered a lobster bisque or should I say a soup. To add insult to injury, there was literally one chunk of lobster that was almost half inch in size. The family did enjoy the bread, but the main meals had several misses that caused this restaurant to be a two star. I will start with my wife who had the lasagna. She said it was really good and could have been a dish from Italy (We were there last December). My daughter had the gnocchi and a side of meatballs. She stated the gnocchi was bland, but the meatballs were good. My son, started as a couple failures. First he ordered a beef tenderloin fillet. After being told that they were out he ordered the New York strip medium rare. When the food finally made it to the table it was rare. After sending it back the second one was cooked better. However the steak you could taste the rosemary, but was still no salt. Once adding salt to the steak it tasted good. He ordered a side of pasta which he really enjoyed. Finally, my order, I ordered the whole lobster. To start, the size of this lobster for $79 was a joke and if the lobster was good, I would have felt better! Not having a Caribbean Lobster before I was not sure how it was supposed to be and I wished I would have asked when I took my first bite. The lobster was supposed to be a grilled item. I was so looking forward to this lobster to be TOTALLY disappointed! The lobster was actually over cooked. I only found out after I was leaving because I asked how the consistency was supposed to be. If you only care about scenery and pasta this is the place for you! Anything else, there are a lot of options in the area to choose from.

My husband tried it nonetheless and loved it. The lobster was delicious! Curried Whole snapper - AMAZING! The food and all the sides were served piping hot and my husband REALLY appreciated that. He also appreciated the size of the snapper (maybe about 2.5lbs). He ordered whole snapper at every restaurant we visited and this location had the largest whole fish.
