I went to Skipper's Pier in Gladewater thinking I was just grabbing dinner. Instead, I had one of those meals that makes you sit quietly for a minute afterward questioning why you ever eat anywhere else. The seafood was ridiculously good. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, the seasoning was on point, and everything came out fresh and hot. I'm convinced somebody in that kitchen has a direct connection to the Gulf because there's no reason seafood in East Texas should taste that good. The place was busy, the staff was hustling, and somehow everything still came out fast. By the end of the meal I was already planning what I was ordering next time before I had even paid the check. I went here with my dad who was born and raised in the area. He explained that we should go early because they can get really busy, really quickly. So we went at around 4:45 in the afternoon on a Friday. There was already a 20-30 minute wait for a table inside, but instant seating on the patio, which we took. I'm breaking this into two scores--the food which is the most important, and the service (not just waitress, but overall). Food 4.5 stars--not perfect, but very good. Service 3.0 After getting seated on the patio we were told the server would be out shortly. After about 15 minutes I went back in to ask for menus--coincidently the person that seated us was telling the server that they had people at our table, so I turned around and went back out. Shortly thereafter we were given menus and we ordered drinks. Dad got 50/50 tea and I got water and a whisky rocks which confused the waitress. "So like, with Coke?" No, ma'am, just the whiskey poured over rocks, whatever your house whiskey is, I'm not that picky. We already knew what we wanted and ordered the catfish filets with fries, and fried okra. The food came quickly, but still no drinks. Eventually those came out. My whiskey was in a larger glass, not a whole lot but enough not to complain. The waitress then asked if I wanted a straw for it because she wasn't sure. She might have been new to service, so I'm not upset, I was more amused. She is working at a bar/restaurant but perhaps the servers are kept seperate and she's not used to running for the bar. The food was excellent. The catfish was freshly fried, the outside a good crunchy crust and the inside darn near dissolved it was so tender and moist, not even a hint of being over or under done. Excellent flavor, it didn't need the house made dips (a tartar and a cocktail sauce, both great), but they complimented it. Tartar was heavy on mayo flavor than traditional tartar, but you could still tell what it was. Cocktail sauce seemed fairly standard, I guess I can't promise that one was house made. Two jalapeno hush puppies came with it. They were standard fair, a little bit of spice, enough to enjoy while letting non-spicy people still tolerate it. Crunch went deep, the center was cooked but a lot less of the ratio than the crunch outside. Fries were also standard, but fried well, good crunch and fluffy inside. Fish was the absolute star, it was "close your eyes and enjoy" good. Fried okra was bland. It was crunch on the outside, soft but not gooey on the inside so they treated it well to reduce the slime, but it didn't stand out from any other fried okra I've had. Wouldn't get it again, but it was cheap. Didn't get checked on very often, I think we were offered drink refills when we asked for the check. Got the bill. Fish plates, $16. Okra side: 3.50. My one ounce of whiskey, TWELVE DOLLARS. I don't know if she rang it in wrong, or if their prices are just ridiculous for that stuff. Lesson learned, don't order alcohol here. But most certainly order the fish. Service lacking, perhaps still learning, fish was absolutely wonderful. read more

Ok so everything is good. The only problem, that's not really a problem, is the crawfish in the buckets. The first few i had from the bucket had me thinking they brought us crawfish with no seasoning or juice. What i had to learn that you had to do is get the crawfish that is at the bottom of the bucket where the actual juice is. Once i got to the bottom of it i was all good. The bucket was so full you can't see the juice at the bottom. The service was good and attentive. That fried fish is delicious! We will definitely be back. Skippers Pier Coastal Cajun Kitchen is a place I've driven by many times over the years and I've never thought about stopping. I usually drive by when I'm heading out of town for work. That all changed when I saw some food they posted on Facebook and I just knew I had to try it. This time I brought my whole family (wife and 3 boys) with me and we ordered a little bit of everything. After a little 30 minute drive, we finally pulled up. The place was packed and I now understand why. We were sat at a table and quickly approached by our server. Her name was Rainee and she was phenomenal the entire time. We ordered a few appetizers (fried green tomatoes, mozzarella cheese sticks, and the hot Cheeto elote). While waiting for them to come out, we went ahead and placed our food order. I got 3lbs of crawfish, Double Play (1lb of snow crab, 1lb of boiled shrimp, corn, potatoes, and butter), Baja shrimp pineapple boat, Baja shrimp creamy cajun pasta, and the bacon cheddar ranch chicken sandwich. Shortly after ordering our entrees, the appetizers showed up. I forgot to get a picture of them before we started to dig in, but the fried green tomatoes and the cheese sticks were both equally delicious!!! They each came with a different dipping sauce and they added so much flavor. The hot cheeto elote was very good, although the corn was a bit on the colder side. We didn't mind at all and still devoured it. Then the real food started showing up. I had a chance to try everyone's food and I honestly couldn't think of a single complaint and neither could my family. Everything was incredible. The Cajun pasta was creamy and very well seasoned and the shrimp that came with it were perfectly cooked. The chicken sandwich was not only massive, but it was very tender and also full of flavor. My oldest son's pineapple boat was one of my favorite things I tried. The queso on top was such a nice touch to the dish. It was almost too pretty to eat. The crab boil with the shrimp and the crawfish came out a few minutes after. My favorite part was the crawfish not even being spicy at all. We ordered the mild. They still had plenty of seasoning and flavor for my family. They were also cooked just right. The snow crab didn't last very long at the table. We destroyed it within minutes of it being on the table. Same with the boiled shrimp. Last but definitely not least was the dessert. We ordered 2 different kinds of cheesecakes and we also got the bread pudding with the rum sauce. Both cheesecakes were heavenly, but I'm not surprised, seeing as they were made by Dana Hale with Dana's Cheesecake Delights herself. My favorite was the banana pudding cheesecake. My wife's favorite was the key lime and white chocolate cheesecake. My kids loved them both. On to that bread pudding!!! It was really warm, so we had to wait a minute, but once it cooled off, we made quick work of it. It was definitely some of the best bread pudding that I've had in a good while. I absolutely cannot recommend this place enough and I know myself and my family will definitely be making the short drive more often. Our waitress brought me regular fried green tomato's before the rest of my parties meals which I asked for mine to be brought out at the same time. I wasn't sure why the second part of my meal wasn't there as I ordered fried green tomato caprese. I didn't know the set up of the meal as it was my first time there. So after we're eating on these I saw the manager and asked him about it. He said oh she must have messed up my order and for use to go ahead and eat those and he will resend my correct order. A few moments later the waitress came over to us and took the fried green tomatoes away from us and later came back with my correct order. Ok first I'm not sure why you removed food from us because it was already on the table and eaten on. Everyone's fried catfish was amazing. Turns out I didn't care for the correct meal as the sauce made the fried tomatoes soggy but it was good none the less. It was our first time at Skipper's yesterday, 4/03/24. We arrived 7pm and were told it'd be a 30-35 minute wait. We were happy to wait since it was our first trip and we drove about 40 minutes to come try it. While we waited my fiancé went to the bar to order us drinks. He said he was served promptly but was told by the bartender that the restaurants computer system was down so they were having difficulty. I will also share that he got a single shot of liquor and it cost $8, seemed a bit steep but no complaints. We were sat at a booth exactly after a wait of 35 minutes. Once sat we were told again that the system was down so they couldn't take orders but would be happy to get us drinks while we wait. Again, no issue. We appreciated the honest communication! By the time we did order it was 8:30. We ordered crawfish boat 3 hot and boudin egg rolls. The food was amazing!! We would come back for the egg rolls alone. My husband and I have dined at Skippers several times since moving to Longview in 2022. Although we have always enjoyed the food and have had mostly positive dining experiences, our last visit was very disappointing. We last visited Skippers on Saturday, October 11th. My husband ordered fried catfish while I ordered a crab & shrimp boil. My husband's dinner came out first, but mine was delayed. The waitress apologized and said it should be out shortly. We watched as other diners around us recieved their meals, many of them boiled dishs as well, but mine failed to arrive. Our waitress finally came back to collect my husband's now empty plate and seemed surprised that I had never received mine. She offered to have it boxed up for me to take home. I declined and then went to talk to a manager. Amanda, the manager on duty, seemed taken aback that I was so frustrated, and again offered to have my meal boxed up so I could take it home. When this didn't make me particularly happy, she asked what she could do to make me happy. I explained that we were past that point, but comping my husband's meal and not charging me for a dinner I did not receive would appease me. She did so, but went on to explain to me that the mistake was the kitchen's fault and that the restaurant itself was not to blame as the kitchen and restaurant were seperate. Huh? Got a kicked out. LSS: "Glasses" the floor manager is out of her mind. She bulldogged our guest and did not help with bussing issues. Told my female friend to hold on to the bucket full of bones and shells after three wait staff avoided her polite plea for bussing service. Skippers Pier in Gladewater, Texas is owned by a very rude, unethical "gentleman" if you can call him that. We recently ate there with another couple. Each couple had a coupon that indicated that spending $30.00 would get either some crab parts or some shrimp. After each couple individually paid $40 to $50 apiece, each couple requested crab with the coupons. Nowhere on the coupons did it state only one coupon per table. Our waitress came back to our table and announced that the owner told her that only one coupon could be used because both couples were eating at the same table, even though the couples were paying separately. We all found this ridiculous so we asked to speak to this owner. He quickly told us he reserved the right to do as he pleased and that we should not come to his restaurant again. So if you get one of these coupons in the mail just be aware it is a scam. read more

Crawfish was ok, not the best. Catfish was horrible; grease was not hot enough and it was soaked in oil throughout. Fry seasoning was good but they were worse than a salt-lick in the pasture. Best part was the hush puppies. If you eat here, take 2 Pepto's, 2 Malox rounds, a photonix, and 2 rantadines, and drink 1/2 gallon of water. You will still have heartburn for 8 hours, but you won't puke. You will still pay for eating it though! Save yourself and drive about 3 miles down to New Pier and have better food at a better price.
