Dear Skrimp Shack, I need you to open a location in Colorado Springs. I stopped in for lunch almost completely on a whim, and somehow I have fallen in love with a shrimp and crab po' boy. I ordered the shrimp grilled instead of fried, and when my food arrived I actually laughed at how much seafood was piled onto the sandwich. Big, beautifully grilled shrimp and generous amounts of real crab meat--not a little sprinkle of crab hiding somewhere under the lettuce. So much shrimp and crab fell out when I picked it up that I basically had a second meal sitting in the basket, and the sandwich was STILL loaded. And it was delicious. The shrimp had a great char, the crab was tender and plentiful, the bread was toasted, and everything tasted fresh. Nothing needed to be buried under sauce to make it good. Then there were the hushpuppies. Apparently I have been living an incomplete life. They were perfectly crisp and crunchy on the outside and warm, soft, slightly doughy and sweet on the inside. I had to stop and contemplate why these aren't a standard side everywhere. And because I clearly hadn't been spoiled enough already, I got the strawberry shortcake for dessert. What really makes this place work, though, is that none of it feels like it's trying too hard. It's casual, clean, comfortable and completely unassuming. There's no pressure, no fuss and no inflated price tag pretending good seafood needs to be a special-occasion experience. I had a huge shrimp and crab po' boy, hushpuppies, a drink AND strawberry shortcake for $23.05 before tax and tip. That feels almost unreasonable in 2026. Skrimp Shack, I came to Virginia for work. I did not expect to develop feelings for a seafood restaurant. But here we are. Please come to Colorado Springs. I've been hurt before. I've ordered things called "crab" only to receive three lonely shreds of meat and a whole lot of crab-flavored optimism. I've learned not to get my hopes up. We ordered through DoorDash from this Suffolk location and spent over $90 on it. It was our first time ever trying this restaurant and we were completely disappointed. My brother and I ordered: 20 pc. Grilled shrimp & fries x2 Chicken Sandwhiches x1 Catfish Sandwich x1 Catfish & Shrimp Po Boy x1 order of Hushpuppies -- the total on the receipt came up to $49 and some change but through DoorDash went up to $90; which was definitely not worth it. The packaging btw was horrible, so I would not recommend take out really. They were all stacked and smushed on top of each other, hushpuppies were scattered throughout the bag and even the brown paper bag holding it all in was soggy and torn. The styrofoam container was dented in and there were no sauces that we asked for; as a whole did not seem $90 worth, not even close to $35. The chicken was extremely dry and overcooked (should be expected, ordering from a shrimp place) but still, Chick-Fil-A would've been better. Definitely tasted like something that could be made at home but not as good. One chicken sandwich, we just threw away the bread and cut it into nuggets to dip in a sauce because of how dry it was. The grilled shrimp was just basic salt and pepper. It was ok but again, something I could buy a whole bunch of at the grocery store and execute it better. The fries that came with it were plain but they offered packets of salt and pepper so that was good. The po boy was disappointing, at most places they come with like coleslaw or veggies inside of it but here you have to add an additional charge to get a "deluxe" to get that. It was the only item to come with some sort of sauce on it but it was quickly dried into the fish and shrimp. Catfish sandwich was never touched. I heard the Portsmouth location is better but we will not be returning or at least willing to spend at Skrimp Shack again. read more

I'll admit the first time I went here, I was not a fan. Was a matter of fact, I said I'd never come back. Well, obviously things change. My doctor told me I started needing to eat not fish in my diet and for the times I am unable to eat fish, this place makes it work. And to be fair to the company, the poboy just wasn't for me. I'm super glad I gave them another chance. What you get for value really depends on what you order. I'm thinking market prizes seems to have a bearing on general markup. Browse the entire menu and don't forget you can get the fish cooked however you want. Grilled, blackened, or fried. While most folks would choose fried, having the other options works VERY well. Very clean establishment in the strip mall right beside The Cove emergency vet facility. Staff was very nice and quick. Food came out piping hot which was great. We ordered the fat flounder lunch basket to split while we waited for our dog. The hush puppies were crispy and like I said HOT but they tasted right from a box and exactly the same as the fish coating do there was a distinct lack of texture and taste. I ordered the skrimp & pollock basket and a bowl of clam chowder. I thought the clam chowder was good it had chunks of potatoes and clams. When I opened my basket however, I was expecting more. Will.... This is what $18 looks like at the scrimp Shack. I know that the cost of everything is steadily increasing but geez come on! I would like to say that when I walk in even though they were busy I was greeted with a warm hello and a welcome. When I got to the front to have my order taken the young lady that assisted was extremely patient and very helpful and guided me and what I was looking for as far as my meal was concerned. I had the spicy catfish and added fried shrimp with collard greens as my side. I added a side of mac and cheese. However, I was kind of taken aback to know that hush puppies did not come with the meal you had to buy them separately. I bypass adding hush puppies as my meal was already a little over $18 before taxes. I do want to know that the food was made to order so it was hot when you received it and when I drove home to start to eat it was still hot. I open the top to the mac and cheese and wasn't expecting it to be white in color however upon eating it it was fabulous! I highly recommend adding the mac and cheese to any meal that you have when visiting. Just ordered door dash to get some skrimp snack and there were some hits and misses. First off it was super quick! Props to all involved parties. I ordered the fried catfish and collard green side. The catfish was pretty good. Obviously real fish unlike what you'd get at a non seafood specific restaurant. The collard greens were in serious need of seasoning. I had the Nashville hot chicken Samwich and the spicy fried shrimp basket. The samwich was the best chicken sandwich I've yet to have. The coleslaw cuts the chicken just the right amount and the thick pickles add to the dynamic. The suffolk location kinda sucks when compared to the portsmouth one. First they are stingy with the shrimp. Portsmouth the shrimp falls out of the bun there is so much of them. The suffolk looks like they placed each shrimp one by one on the bread. Then the girl mumbles my name at the lowest possible volume and she said only once I never heard her. So 15 min went by and I got up only to find out my sandwich had been sitting there the whole time. The whole experience has made me not a fan of the suffolk location. read more

When to the Skrimp Shack on a Tuesday night with the restaurant 20% full, did dine in and had our food within 5-10 minutes. Ordered 2 fish and shrimp baskets with one side and a drink ($8.95) and did the upgrade ($1.00) for catfish. My side was fries and my sons the Mac and white cheese. Also ordered 10 shrimp ($7.95) to share with the meal. The shrimp were excellent, lightly breaded with a firm texture and tasted fresh. The fish was sweet, not sure if it was the breading or the tartar sauce. Not bad but not a fish I have caught and cooked the same day. Fries were good didn't taste like they were cooked in the same oil as the seafood but the Mac and cheese was not what we expected. Think of an alfredo sauce and shell noodles. It wasn't horrible but did go with the meal. After a few bites it went in the trash. The cocktail and tartar sauce come in plastic pouches which was different. The shrimp tacos are also top notch. Same thing here: very generous portions! A lot of places only give you 3 shrimp on a shrimp taco, but these things were LOADED with shrimp. I suggested this Skrimp Shack to my mother and grandmother. We went. I don't prefer this location anyway because the food is never as seasoned as the location on Airline Blvd in Portsmouth. But we came! The time was about 12:45. The menu looked different than the last time I came. And to set the scene, the menu is overhead so you're looking up trying to order with the person in front of you. I took the picture of the menu after my not so good experience. So I ordered the whiting sandwich. First problem, the manager that took my order didn't offer the lunch special that's available before 3. It's a fish sandwich on a sweet brioche bun with fries and a drink for 8.25. I didn't even notice this sign until after I sat down to wait for our order. The fish sandwich I ordered was 6.85 + 4.25 for a side and drink. A young lady saw me talking about the special and said "I would've suggested it to you but the manager was taking your order." Second problem, while ordering I asked could I order a side of shrimp to go with my sandwich. Yes I'm fat, leave me alone. So the manager says "the lowest count we have is 10 for 7.99 or you can order them individually for .95 cents. I didn't want to do that either. So while we were waiting for our order away from the register, I could see the menu and specials without breaking my neck. I saw the add 4 shrimp for $3. If you are looking for a Louisiana style PoBoy this is not the place for you. They have their own version of a PoBoy which is just shrimp on a bun. I had the shrimp and crab combination PoBoy and the shrimp was cooked perfectly and they had plenty of real crab meat on it. What was missing is the normal extras like you find down south where they originally started. If I was ever in the area again I would definitely get their food again just not between two pieces of bread. I am guessing their shrimp basket is probably really good since they don't overcook the shrimp and it has a good seasoning. Next time I will also ask more questions about what does and does not come on a sandwich. read more

Sad and disappointing. Those are the words. Came here last year for a month long visit and the food was great. We ate from here at least 10 times that month because it was really good. Hot, fresh, crispy and fantastic. Last nights meals were Salty, Cold, dry, chewy and mush. For $50??? No thanks. All the food was cold even thought we had to wait a minute while it was being "finished" I guess "packed" is more accurate. Dry dark flounder, cold chewy shrimp salty rubber clams and the finale was mush collard greens. The website is inaccurate for this store as to drink offerings. What a bummer. The only compliment I have would be the great customer service. As far as the $50 worth of food we got, two thumbs down. The grilled scallops had no seasoning and no sear, the shrimp had an extremely fishy taste to them, the Mac and cheese was dry, and there was more sauce and lettuce on the fish tacos than there was fish, and the crab and shrimp poboy was drowning in sauce. Second time here at this location. Friendly greeting upon entering by the cashier/ person taking your order. Each time I have come it's been around 5pm and the place isn't busy at all. The restaurant itself is clean, plenty of seating in the dining room. Food is ordered and brought out to you with minimal wait time. The menu has your typical fried seafood choices. First time I ordered the shrimp basket with Mac n cheese. Nothing too spectacular just your typical fried shrimp. Cocktail sauce comes in packet which I thought was odd and not the best tasting. Mac and cheese was nothing to brag about, reminded me of some boiled pasta with little to no cheese sauce. I also ordered a cup of the crab and corn chowder which I really enjoyed and which is the only reason why I've come back. I truly enjoyed their chowder.
