The person who helped us was really pleasant and was just real with us. I also witnessed this person helping other tables and keeping the area nice and tidy. Conversation was simple and overall, just a pleasant experience. My wife had the crabcake sandwich and was pleased with it. Considering we live directly between this one and the one over by College drive, we've found our new Skrimp Shack to visit. We've been planning to visit Skrimp Shack for months now. We are a big fan of seafood especially shrimp and crabs. Also, we heard a lot of good things about this establishment so we finally decided to give this place a try. Skrimp Shack is located in a strip mall in Airline Blvd., Portsmouth and is in between Roses and a medical clinic. The decoration of the restaurant is what stands from this place. I enjoyed reading the bible verses and quotes that are hanged on the wall. However, the tables, chairs and floors are a little unkept. We also noticed that the tables are a little sticky. When it comes to food, we both ordered the crab and skrimp po boy with sweet potato fries. When asked if I wanted mild or hot for the po boy sauce, I ordered the hot po boy sauce. The po boy was really delicious. Make sure your napkins ready because it could get a little messy because of the crab meat. The portioning is huge and it will definitely fill you up. The only thing I was disappointed about is that the po boy wasn't spicy at all. You can't even consider it mild as well. Also, I feel like there's not enough sauce in my sandwich and I am not willing to pay more for an extra sauce. For the price, we noticed that it is a little bit pricey when you decide to get a combo or if you substitute your side. If you don't want to pay extra to get a combo, I recommend picking a meal on the menu that already includes soda and fries. Other than that, we think that the price is reasonable for a seafood place. We enjoyed our meal so much that we are already planning our next plan to this establishment. Skrimp Shack is definitely one of the places that should be on your list if you are visiting Portsmouth. So... I like seafood, a lot. Thanks to COVID, this is a significant challenge because seafood worth eating is fresh. I was in town fo business and figured that people near the beach would have put in the effort figure out the problem. This is that. I had the shrimp and crabmeat Po-Boy and it was fantastic. The sauce is fantastic. The hush puppies are equally good, and are slightly sweet, which is a wonderful variation. My buddy had a Shrimp and something (I forget what) sandwich and was talking about it a week later. The business I was visiting now has the problem of me coming more often for inspections because of their proximity to Skrimp Shack, which I am engineering a visit too. This is my 15th time or more eating here. Everytime I eat here I eat something different each time it is great with big portions. The customer service is amazing and the restaurant is always clean and being cleaned during my visits. The seating is okay but I rarely eat inside. The restroom us clean and tidy Everytime. Well I've attempted to dine here twice and both times were unsuccessful. The 1st time, they stopped selling food about 8:10pm, even though they close at 9pm. The excuse... we cook the food fresh and by time you receive your order it will be at least an hour later. Ooooook!! Thanks for the heads up, but the reason...really ?? smh. The 2nd time, we came in about 815pm... ordered... we have no whiting... ooook. Aye yiyi!! On this attempt, the restaurant was packed inside, people were hanging around outside waiting for their food...just a lot was going on. And I figured oh well...this is too much. And why don't you hv stuff...ugh! !!! Today's my third attempt to try this hot new business out...the wait today was only 5mins!!! Hallelujah! ! The store opened at 11am and since I was nearby I figured hmmmmm no way they are super busy one hour after opening. I did see the lady in the picture present in the restaurant so perhaps she oversees this location and the guy oversees the other location that's in Newport News. Overall, I definitely recommend this spot for fresh seafood. Just go early because to wait over 25 mins for food is ridiculous. 30 mins maybe... but luckily there are a few stores located on the strip where the restaurant is located, Citi Trends and Roses. So perhaps while you wait you can go in one or the other to past the time away. But it seems as though people are prepared to wait, so you may see a lot of people waiting inside their cars... if you do, this should alert you...9/10 that's why they're there. There's also a go kart place, a custard establishment and other fast food options within walking distance. There's another popular seafood place about 10mins or less from here too...competing maybe. Mon. - Fri., the restaurant is open from 10:30am - 9pm Saturday, the restaurant is open from 11am-9pm I asked one of the cashiers what the time does the crowd rush in... 6pm she said. Well I can attest to steady flow of patrons on Saturday starts about noon. It's worth it...reasonably priced too. I'm looking forward to trying smthn different next time. I felt like I could be one of those marathon eaters today. I was wrong, but I FELT like I COULD have, maybe on another day. I have had shrimp from the shack but not the fish. I took my sammich out of the bag and looked to see if maybe they had mistakenly added another. Nope just one sammich. I unwrapped the beast and I was slightly over whelmed. Undeterred, I dove right in. I thought: "it can't be THAT good, it's like they are GIVING the fish away lol." Here comes the marathon part: the fish was hot, seasoned and piled high on a jumbo sesame bun. I remember when the Skrimp Shack on Airline Blvd opened. The decor, food and service were great! Things have changed significantly. Today took the cake! My family and I ordered food at different points during the day. One person ordered the famous PoBoy sandwich and when they finally opened it to dig in, boy what an unwelcome surprise. The pic speaks a mouthful! (Not to mention food prices are high and as a consumer you want every penny's worth!!!) My daughter and I placed orders and the wait time was very long, the line was almost out the door, including orders called in. Once I received my food order, I had to remind them about the gallon of tea. The wait time was even longer because the worker had to go find a gallon container, when all the people before me had their gallon ready to go from restaurant's fridge. I was told to fill my gallon container myself. That resulted in a spill on the floor, table and my feet/shoes. Not cool! I've never been to a restaurant where the customer does that!!! (please bring back Moseberth's!!!). Additionally, I checked my bag for the two mild special sauces in my bag. I paid a dollar for two, but what I got was a drip in one container and a teaspoon in the other. I had to ask for my money's worth. Another worker gave me an additional small container. I had previously asked for straws for my two cups after another customer told me he got his from the cashier. When I asked one of the workers, I was told there were no straws. Low and behold, the gentleman who came after me asked the same question. Guess what? He got his straws. The other co-worker her my response and then gave me a single straw. I couldn't wait to get out of there! I said all this to say, Skrimp Shack, you must do better with staffing, completing orders based on what the consumer purchased (no take shortcuts), and improve your customer service. The food can taste good, but when you fail to meet the fundamental principles of food service, it's not so tasty or satisfactory. I was pleasantly surprised to get some haddock (which hardly anyone carries anymore) and plump shrimp. Both fresh and piping hot. They both came with tartar and cocktail sauce that I didn't have to request. I would have also liked some malt vinegar but maybe that's a northern thing. The food was very good and fresh which is the only way I eat my seafood. I think the prices are a bit above average for this area and more on par with what I would have paid in Northern VA. This was my first visit to this food establishment. I am always a little skeptical of food businesses in strip centers but I tried it. I went to the counter to order and was greeted by a friendly young lady that offered up some great food selections. The shrimp basket with coleslaw as a side was my choice. The coleslaw was very fresh and tasty (should have ordered two) and the shrimp was delicious. The shrimp was a good large size and portion, batter wasn't too heavy or way too crunchy, the shrimp was very fresh and cooked just right. They have several fish selections so I believe that fish will be my next menu selection. Great job guys read more

I ordered from the restaurant through DoorDash as I have many times before. I ordered the chicken and shrimp platter. The chicken was burnt. The meat inside was disintegrated it was so burnt. When I called the restaurant, not to get more food or my money back, but to simply inform them of the lack of quality, the manager Erin was extremely rude. I popped in here on a hot Saturday morning right around 1130. There was only one other customer in the restaurant who was devouring a fish sandwich when I walked in. I decided that I wanted the shrimp combo and a crab cake. The combo came with a side and I got macaroni and cheese. I waited inside for my food to be prepared which took about 10 minutes tops. The restaurant was SPARKLING clean and they had good music playing. I guess they are supposed to have the music on a certain station because when a black BMW pulled up in the parking lot and a dark skinned gentleman got out of the car and started walking towards the entrance, one of the workers hauled A$$ to change the station and turn the music up louder. I got so tickled because it reminded me when I worked at a retail clothing store manyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy years ago and we used to do the same thing! I guess the man is the manager because he came in strutting around like a peacock and smiling and shook my hand and asked was everything to my liking. He did that with the other customers too. My food was good. I love shrimp and they were hot and delicious. It also came with filet whiting. I'm really not a fan on whiting, but I didn't feel like paying the $3 dollars to get catfish - so I sucked it up. The whiting was decent.
