I had the Skrimp n catfish basket for lunch. The estimated time for the food was on point. I was so glad that the shrimp were large in size and very juicy. The breading wasn't overbearing. It was season just right. The catfish could've had more flavor. I'll probably try the flounder better as far as the sweet potato fries, that too was great in itself. The problem is that certain meals are not always in stock and the teens and young people they hire are not friendly, rush you to order, or make alot of mistakes on your order. I was hesitant to post as a Hampton newbie- but this was our 3rd time to try this place since we first arrived in July 2022. There was confusion on the order and I did not realize the mistakes until I got home with the order. I attempted to call and ask about the order and was met with an uncaring attitude and then a dial tone when I was trying to breathe through being upset. The counter service was good, but I found the different placements of menus confusing and walked away with $74 of food for 3 people. I won't be returning, but I advise anyone to look at the family bundles. One of the 3 orders were correct, or perhaps I should have asked more questions. Regardless- I'm upset I spend so much money. Always fun to visit Skrimp Shack, food is fresh, customer service was very friendly and the price is right. This particular location is very clean - I normally judge this by looking at the restrooms. I had the shrimp tacos and my wife had a shrimp and fish platter with her choice of fish. It was served quick, hot and fresh. I loved being greeted in such a friendly way. This is the second time I have tried this food. First time, there was a very weird bitter taste on the fish, I threw it out. Tonight after a long day work, I ordered my wife and I the small bundle, the pieces of fish they gave looks like they cut the fish filets up in 4 bite sized pieces. They called it a filet. I had shrimp with it, which shrimp were ok, but not good by any stretch. The fish is just horrible. Some bitter taste, obviously this is old frozen fish maybe even freezer burned. It is not good. Contrary to all the other reviews, my overall feeling was that things were just okay. First, it's a simple process. Go to the counter, order, take a seat, and someone will bring your food to you. After perusing the menu, I gave it a go with the crab mean and skrimp po boy sandwich with fried okra as my side. It was maybe a 10 minute wait for my food. When my meal was brought to me, it sure looked tasty. I opened the face of the hoagie roll and looked at what appeared to be an unlimited amount of shrimp. The only thing was that I didn't taste too much by way of flavor. I couldn't really taste the crab and the batter for the shrimp didn't really stand out too much. It was drenched in their homemade sauce but that, too, didn't have much of a taste that was memorable. The fried okra was decent. Nothing tasted good or bad... This one lady named Suna, who I believe must've been the owner, walked around to each table checking on customers. She was super sweet with an accent that sounded like she was from Louisiana. Okay, let me start of by saying, this place is great...if you're too lazy, or don't know how, to cook your own seafood. It's like most seafood restaurants in the area - they are a big deal if you're from a place where seafood isn't readily available. So, yeah, it might be "delicious" if you don't know what good seafood is. My spouse talked me into going into this place based on the raving recommendations of her friends. I was leery because their palates are more accustomed to talapia (trash fish) and pre-breaded shrimp. First problem, the overwhelming odor of grease. I actually went outside while the order was prepared because I really didn't want to enjoy the smell via my clothing, all the way home. Once home, it was obvious the fry grease should have been changed about fifty orders ago. The fish and shrimp were so dark, it was impossible to tell if they were overcooked or had just collected breading from the bottom of the fryer. In short, best if you learn to cook seafood at home. Wowowow! First impression counts, and let me tell you Skrimp Shack knocked it out of the park! My husband and I went there Wednesday night and upon pulling up in the little shopping center, we saw that there was a line. I mean, that's always good news, right? Lines mean good food! The restaurant is very very very bright and clean. I love their menu board, and the little posters and little sayings hanging on the wall. They were funny and really brought the decoration together. The service was very quick, and even though there were quiet a few people in front of us who ordered we were out of there between 10-15 minutes. During my time there, I saw the servers cleaning and making sure that the self serve soda section was clean and well stocked with essentials. Our order was one crabmeat and skrimp po' boy, fat flounder sandwich, and sweet potato fries. When the bill came up, I was a little shocked because I found it a bit pricey. Going home though, and seeing the sandwiches the prices and warranted! The po' boy was STACKED. I mean shrimp on shrimp on fat shrimp with chunks of crabmeat. You can tell that it's actually shrimp instead of those frozen things you get that's overly breaded. The sandwich on the other hand was just bursting with fish. It did get a bit messy though so I'm glad I got to eat it in the privacy of my own because I went to TOWN. The sweet potato fries were also so so so tasty. The Skrimp Shack is an extremely clean takeout place with limited seating inside. This place is. Dry reasonable. You can eat real good for 10-bux or less. The sides could use some work the collard greens lacked flavor, but were edible. The shrimp and oysters were delectable! I savored every drop! Visiting Hampton University and had a taste for seafood. Proximity and Yelp reviews sent us here. The skrimp and crabmeat po boy was on point...delicious! Shrimp were lightly breaded, perfectly seasoned and plentiful. The sauce was sweet and spicy and did not overpower the sweetness of the crabmeat. Got tilapia and Mac n cheese for my daughter (both sprinkled with hot sauce) and my finicky eater was very pleased. We will definitely stop back in before heading home.
