They are tearing, they're splitting, and they're peeling...they're catching my hair, and they catch on my sweaters. They are so thin, and any pressure on my nails causes discomfort, and my previously super strong, natural nails are now thin and actually deform when you press on them. It is incredibly uncomfortable. They are still only about a third of the way grown out, so I will be dealing with this for probably six months more at least. There is literally nothing I can do about it. I don't wear gel nails or fake nails because it weakens my nails, so I can't even put anything artificial over my nails to strengthen them. I've just been putting on Sally Hansen Strong as Nails to try and stabilize them until they grow out. I was trying to peel a sticker off something today, and it tore my nail again. I also tried to pry a plastic shaker top off of a spice bottle and it broke another one. I did end up calling and talking to somebody, and they did apologize, and I was appreciative. I've always had good service here, but this is beyond disappointing.

Lena left zero apex on one nail -- completely flat and weak. On the rest she didn't pack the acrylic into the sidewalls properly, leaving obvious pits along the sides. Basic technique she either never learned or simply doesn't bother to get right. To top it off, she was about to slap the top coat on without even cleaning the dust off the nails first. My wife calmly pointed out the problems and asked her to fix them. Lena's response? She started crying. Not because the work was bad -- because someone expected her to correct her own mistakes. Then the tech next to her jumped in with the classic line: "It's your fault she's crying. You made her cry." No. The crying happened because Lena cannot perform the basic steps of the job she is being paid to do and collapses the second a client asks her to fix the damage she caused. That's not "mean clients." That's an inexperienced tech who shouldn't be touching clients' nails until she can build an apex, fill the sidewalls correctly, and remember to remove dust before top coat. $90 that should've been $0 after this experience. Save your money and your nails. Skip Nina and skip Ambient Nails.

The guy doing my nails was extremely rude and seemed irritated anytime I asked questions about what he was doing. I originally asked for a full set of builder gel, but he kept insisting on doing a fill instead -- which was totally fine, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't charged for a full set. When I asked about it, he immediately got annoyed. I also asked to look at builder gel colors, and he told me no because he was "doing a fill," then pushed me into choosing a cat eye color that I never wanted in the first place. When I said I only wanted a simple French tip, he got visibly frustrated, raised his voice, and said, "Well what do you want then?" while acting like I was complaining the entire time. I was being completely polite the whole appointment. I've honestly never complained about my nails before, but if I'm paying for a service, I should be allowed to ask questions and speak up about what I want. To make things worse, he added color over the builder gel that I never asked for, and the French tips were sloppy and uneven. After he finished, he just walked away without saying anything. I paid and spoke to the lady at the front desk about my concerns, and she basically told me I should've said something earlier and that my nails "didn't look bad." They absolutely did -- even my boyfriend noticed, and guys hardly ever notice nails. She eventually had another lady fix them, and I do appreciate her for trying because they definitely looked better than what the guy originally left me with. The pictures don't fully show it, but I can still feel all the bumps and unevenness on the nails. The most upsetting part is that one of my natural nails is now cracked, and I had spent forever growing them out. So I'll start by saying I travel frequently for work and have been to MANY different nail salons…read moreand have pretty high standards for quality and cleanliness. With that being said...this is one of the worst places I have been to. I went a total of two times which is my own fault because I should have never returned after the first visit. However, there aren't many nail salons on the island and the one next door was not great either. Over the two trips here are the issues I encountered.... 1. Head lady was very rude! She even told the girl getting a pedi next to me that her eyebrows looked fake and were the wrong color. Who says that to a customer? She was trying to convince the customer to come to her salon to get her eyebrows done but that is not the way to do it. 2. Very unsanitary. I was glad to see that they had individually wrapped nail kits. Except they don't actually use them. They have them in a basket with an already opened pack which they seem to reuse. I witnessed it in the almost 2 hrs I was there. The man also wears gloves....which is nice except he reuses the same pair. Disgusting. 3. When it came time to get the manicure the lady left the pedicure kit in the basket and had new pack in the drawer...except it was already opened? When asked she says she always prepares it for the next customer. Not falling for it. Customers always want to see a new kit opened in front of them. 4. I always get a gel manicure and the quality at this salon was awful! Looks like a child did it. Check out the actual photos. I didn't have time for her to fix them, plus I was anxious to leave but I was so embarrassed running errands after bc they looked so awful and cheap. 5. For my pedicure they used the toe separators, they cheap "disposable" ones. During my manicure she took them off me and put them back in the drawer. In the drawer there were several individually wrapped new ones, however they keep reusing them for different customers. Just gross. They also took the toe separators and disposable flip flips off another lady and put them back in the drawer for reuse as well. How are other people ok with this!? It's not like they cleaned them between customers. 6. On several different occasions I politely questioned their practices, such as "that nail kit was already opened when I sat down...is it new?" Rather than just say yes or no they became very defensive and even more rude. This lead me to believe that they were guilty and just trying to hide their wrong doing. All in all there may not be many nail salons in the island but it's worth it to take the drive. This place cuts too many corners and I'm not risking catching some kind of fungus or infection. I am not even sure how they are still in business.
