First of all, I am still alive to write this review so there's something that truly cannot be rated highly enough. My dad and I finally decided, after 8 years of promises, that we would go skydiving together. We went on an early Sunday morning, first group. The process was very quick (some paperwork saying you could die and your family cant sue if you do, then signing your life away if you choose to go through with it, watch a video pretty much stating the same ideas, a sales pitch for pictures and video, weigh and pay). They are strict on the weight so be prepared to pay more or get turned away if you are over 200lbs for women and 220lbs for men. $20 extra by the way. So we get called out, meet our instructor, get suited up and get a very brief run through of what to do up there. The anticipation to the tram and then cramming into a tiny airplane with a suit on so tight I thought my hip was gonna break, we start our flight. The nerves are really getting intense now the higher and higher we go. Of course I forget what I was told to do so my instructor camly tells me again as we are getting strapped together. People start jumping out...I pray before we slide down and crouch down to the edge of the door to jump. What am I nuts?! Yes...it was unbelievable!! I loved the experience and sighed a sense of relief that the parachute worked! My instructor was laid back and let me "drive" as we started our descent down. The whole experience lasted about 5 min but cannot wait to go again! Perfect landing, Dad and I are alive and well. We got our certificate and free t shirt after we were done kissing the ground. The grounds host a store, bar and restaurant so we had breakfast after our jump and watched the next two groups jump and land safely. Overall, I liked the experience. Staff wasn't super friendly but not unpleasant. It is expensive to do this but definitely a unique and unforgettable experience. Can't wait to come back! I know, I know... who would want to jump out of a perfectly good air plane? This girl. I had the pleasure of experiencing my first tandem jump with Skydive Arizona this past Saturday, and dragged my boyfriend along as a Valentines Day gift. Sky diving is something on my bucketlist that I really wanted to complete, and they had a Valentines Day deal so I pulled the trigger and scheduled a jump. The website says to plan "half your day" with them, but we spent maybe three hours with them total. Once you sign in, they take you to a room to watch a video and basically sign your life away. After that, you just wait for your instructors to be ready and suit you up. I purchased the video + picture package for both of us. Its $99 for picture, or video, and $135 for both. If you purchase one though, I would go ahead and get the package. I'd rather spend $36 extra to add on the other and regret it, than not purchase it and not have the experience recorded. The photographer dives with you, and you get some amazing shots. Totally worth the extra money, in my opinion! Make your friends super jealous on facebook with your awesome shots! I personally didn't care for my video because I'm awkward in front of a camera, but I'm still glad to have the entire thing recorded to look back on. We had amazing instructors who answered all of our questions and made sure we were comfortable before taking the plunge. When you safely land on the ground, you head back over to where you started to take off your equipment and wait for your photos/videos if you purchased them. Your instructors give you a certificate with your name on it stating that you did a tandem jump with them, along with coupons for one free appetizer from the bar, a free t-shirt from the general store and a discount on indoor skydiving. For those who are unsure because of the recent deaths, rest assured that NONE of those were tandems. Skydive Arizona has been doing tandems for 35 years without a single death or injury. I felt completely safe in their care, and didn't let fear hold me back from doing something I've always wanted to try. Great experience. The video watching, waiver signing, and payment parts of the process could have been more organized.. you kinda had to figure it out for yourself. But after that was all out of the way, it was smooth sailing (zing!). Our instructors were awesome and got us all harnessed up, explaining what we needed to do in simple terms. All instructors seemed very experienced and were really good at making you laugh, while also making you feel safe. The jump was definitely unforgettable. The free fall was so much fun and seemed like it lasted forever. Once the parachute opened, we did all kinds of twists and turns, which were wild. Towards the end, I felt just a little nauseous and gave my instructor a heads up...so he settled things down during our last minute or so. I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons.... One, the camera guys really try to push you into purchasing a video. I was totally happy with just the picture CD. Two, the instructors were a bit too flirty. After we landed, we got that what-are-you-doing-later kind of vibe. Hmmm. All in all, a totally fun time. Definitely recommend. Tip - Get there early. It's good to be one of the first groups to jump in the morning. Otherwise, you could be stuck waiting around for an hour or more...and there is nowhere air conditioned to wait. read more

The instructors are great but the staff have the worst customer service skills I've ever seen. The office members when we checked in were not helpful at all and were extremely rude to everyone who checked in. It was my first time skydiving and they didn't tell you any details on what you should expect. Would not recommend this place for your first sky diving experience. read more

After writing a 4 star review, only to have someone attack me via Yelp I took it down to a 1 star review. Since then, the new owners of Skydive Arizona have contacted me and apologized for that persons actions, stating that they sincerely hope the attack was not from anyone employed at SkyAZ (I'm inclined to agree). I had an okay experience (mostly due to my air sickness) but will probably not jump again. Not into being air sick. P.S. Did my first and only tandem elsewhere and was hooked. Skydive Arizona was the "recommended" dropzone by the place I did my tandem, so I went there pursuing a license. What I didn't realize at the time is that this place is literally the mecca of skydiving in the US, there are events going on here year-round for licensed jumpers. The one thing you need to know about the instructional staff here (tandem and AFF/coach) : world-class professionals. These guys and girls are incredibly experienced with skydiving, and if you're having a problem it isn't one they haven't seen before. A lot of the instructors here are record holders, and competing skydivers working to pay the way, and you can tell they know their stuff and want to mentor you to become a better jumper. I did all of my AFF jumps here and did coach jumps the rest of the way until receiving my A license. The size of this dropzone alone (off-landing areas, lack of area flight traffic, experience of fellow jumpers) make it the safest place you could learn to skydive - while still immersed in a busy environment that will force you to learn. My only criticism of the DZ would be that it is intimidating to go back and do jumps after getting licensed. To their credit they will "walk" you around the DZ to familiarize you briefly, but there is really no list of things you'll have to do to get started jumping. This is especially true with renting gear - expect to walk in the shop as an idiot, and still feel like one when you leave with an armful of unrigged gear completely oblivious as to what to do. There really needs to be a better process for mentoring jumpers during that first rental day after getting licensed, I could easily see this unnecessarily driving a lot of jumpers away..this sport is rather intimidating at times. I would recommend anyone to this DZ! I would recommend that if you love skydiving tandem, and you want to fully experience the thrill, challenge, fun and liberation of freefall you NEED to work towards a license. read more

Wanted to do a family jump in honor of my wife's passing and found that the employees here are childish and passive aggressive. Was like being back in junior high with the staff being clicked up unfriendly with no professional on site. Drove four hours through a nasty storm multiple accidents and even a herd of cattle in the road to arrive 5 minutes after check in with the rest of our group having arrived on time. They then started making passive aggressive comments about how late I was and ultimately cancelled our jump because of this. No one here cares about the customer and we're treating us as though we were privileged to patron their business. The instructors laughed at us as we were leaving commenting that next time we should be half an hour early. Very unprofessional and childish from a group of individuals that resemble homeless vagrants. Two of our party returned the following day to jump to be met with instant insults and embarrassment as they announced to everyone present that these were the people who came late and were sent home. Considering they were their early the previous day this is not professional or acceptable behavior from these so called professionals. Be aware these are toxic people who get pleasure from being unnecessary cruel. read more

Wow! What an amazing experience! If you are going to try skydiving this is the place to do it! Everyone we talked to here had 5000 or more jumps !!! 5000?!! Insane amount of experience here. The instructors have such a great attitude and sense of humor as well :) I did a birthday tandem jump with a friend (our first time for both of us) Bob was my tandem partner and Roberto was my friend's partner. They were awesome! Thank you so much! Bob was great! He really made sure I was ok the entire time, asking how I was doing and keeping the conversation up on the plane ride because it is definitely scary and I'm pretty adventurous and not afraid of heights at all. For me the actual plane ride was the worst as it can be a little claustrophobic because you're crammed in with about 10 other people (mostly pros) and it's a small prop plane that has a door that opens up halfway through! Lol I suggest a Dramamine if you get motion sickness like me! We also opted to have both of our experiences photographed and videoed. Our two guys that did our interviews and photos were super cool too! It's worth every penny you CANNOT pass on those for sure, especially if it's your first time! The photos and video are epic! For anyone who has ever wanted to mark off skydiving from your list, be it a thrill ride, a bucket list and/or a challenge, this place is a great place to achieve such! I have now done this 3 times over the past two years and it has only gotten better each time. Each instructor that you tandem with for the jump are always personable and very good at instructing you to allow for having a great time. The pros who provide photography and video that jump along with you are some truly interesting and awesome folks that have a great vibe and provide for a great experience. There truly is not words to do justice to the feeling of falling out of a perfectly working plane, enjoying the feeling of the freefall and then parachuting (including the chance to "drive" the parachute) is just simply amazing!!! First off, I would like to thank Joe Ramirez for buying this certificate for my birthday, last year, yeah yeah, it took me like 10 months to grow a pair and jump out of a PERFECTLY good airplane. Secondly, I HATE roller coasters and heights but I definitley had a great time and would do it again. The staff was friendly and my tandem instructor was awesome too. Jumped for the first time using the Tandem rig. This place is the BEST! Customer focused, professional, SAFE, amazing instructors and a great process. Arrived early (recommend an early morning jump time before they get real busy). Filled out reams of legal papers signing away my rights and those of my surviving defendants. No big deal. Went immediately with my instructor for tandem basics and getting fitted in my jump harness. We immediately took the tram to the first airplane of the day and loaded onboard first (we would be the last to go). The plane was full of other licensed jumpers, a world ranked parachute team and a solo student practicing free fall. Most of the plane emptied at 10,000 feet (the pros wanted to do their thing and get down fast for another trip up). As the plane continued to climb to 13,000 feet, Scott, my instructor reviewed the exit procedures and began to cinch down our harnesses. The solo student and her instructor left the plane and Scott made one last check of our 4 points of connection. We crab walked to the door, I assumed the exit position and we rolled out of the plane and into the air. The free fall was awesome, high adrenaline and surprisingly calming. We did some slow flat spins and the wind was not brutal at all. A gentle tug on my lower harness signaled our 50 second free fall had come to an end, the wind went away and we coasted our way down from 4000 feet to a gentle butt first slide on the grass - perfectly soft landing. Once at the bottom the adrenaline was pumping and we shared high fives with the video guy. I recommend both the video and the pictures. Well worth the extra money to relive the experience of your first jump! This was a perfect first experience, I can not recommend it highly enough! Just do it. read more

Finally got to skydive after wanting to do it since I was a teenager! Took my boyfriend for his birthday along with his brother and holy shiii was it amazing!! Skydive Arizona's staff were great! The people who checked us in were quick with the process. The guy who brought us in to watch the short video was fun and tried to get us all amped out of our nervousness. I paid for the stills and the camera guy was amazing! He was excited and happy to take pictures. The tandem instructor was really cool and I had complete confidence in his abilities. We only had to wait approximately an hour from arriving at 10am on a Sunday. All of the licensed skydivers in the plane with us tandem first timers were real cool, not making us feel like a bunch of weenies. I actually want to become licensed based on my experience at Skydive Arizona. Overall, Skydive Arizona was a safe and fun place to have a good time. I will definitely be going back for another tandem to decide if I really do want to become licensed. This time with cash for tips! Do not forget to bring cash! I felt awful not being able to give some cash to show my appreciation for the spectacular time the tandem instructor and camera guy gave me! Did my first jump here for my birthday. Everything went really well and had a blast. I especially liked the fact that their packs, aircraft, etc. all seemed to be in great shape. The office staff was friendly and helpful. Photographer did a great job. I bought photos and the DVD, and they both turned out great. Had to take off a star for a couple of things, one of them being my jump "instructor" who seemed completely disinterested in being there altogether. I get the fact that these guys do several jumps a day, and maybe tandem jumps aren't their favorite thing, but for my first jump/birthday, I expected a little more friendliness. The one other thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the fact that there wasn't really much of a safety briefing if something should go wrong, especially considering the whole jumping-out-of-an-airplane idea. I would kinda like 2 seconds worth of info about what to do - or not do - should something happen. read more

BEST EXPERIENCE EVER! My friend and I did this as a bucket list/birthday gift to myself. The staff here is really nice and try to make you as comfortable as possible. We had a 10am appointment and arrived about 30-40 minutes early. From checking in until jumping the entire process was really quick and I was back home by 12:30, but it wasn't as busy. I decided to purchase the video and the footage is great! The entire thing was $284 flat and it is worth it! The view is spectacular and the adrenaline rush you get from jumping out of the plane is like no other. These guys (and girls) are true professionals! I recommend this to everyone whether you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or nothing at all and just want to try something different. I can only speak from a licensed jumpers perspective, keep that in mind while reading my review! Great Boogies, awesome rental gear (even during a boogie you can get ahold of stuff!), badass planes. If you're new to the dz, you might feel a little lost or left out which is why I gave them 4 stars, but after you make another few visits you feel right at home. The fact that the tunnel and bar/restaurant are right on sight is just awesome and super convenient. The camping and bunks you can rent for the night/weekend are also great. Can't beat free coaching at the Rookie Roundup's the have a few times a year, either. read more

I just finished up my Accel "A" license course. Very well run and organized. They even set up some instructors on Off days to expedite. I had what I call a "tunnel timeout" after having some stability issues early on. Once I fixed some of that I was right back on track and completed the course in short order. I did ground school on the 6th and had my "A" license on the 24th. A couple of guys in my class finished up after 6 days. I live locally so didn't choose to run thru so fast. I'm new at all of this so I don't know much yet, but I hope all jump zones are run so well. Very impressed with everyone I was in contact with, every single one! read more

My mother and I went together on my birthday thinking it would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but we both loved it so much that we plan to make another jump soon! Spent a week at SDAZ while finishing requirements for B-License, and can't say enough positive things. It's a full featured dropzone, with everything one would want to meet your skydiving needs. Logistics: Having flown in from NY, it was great not to even need to spend money on renting a car or a hotel! There is a cab service that takes you directly to the DZ, and you can stay on the DZ. Full facilities - restaurant, bar, bunk house, showers, even get a massage. Facilities: Bunk houses for as little as $8 per night, trailers, or nearby hotel (walking distance). Full rigging loft - and they can do anything. Oh yeah, and wind tunnel that can do several people head down, is just a 5min walk from manifest. Two large main grass landing areas, plenty of outs (but be sure to stand it up, otherwise that dirt will be everywhere all over yourself and your gear). Bent Prop restaurant is good - breakfast, lunch, dinner. Load organizers, yes. Staff: No issues whatsoever. They know how to handle high-throughput, so their process is pretty smooth. Friendly folks all around! Aircraft: Pretty much everything. Even got my first hot air balloon jump there - seemed like the guy just posted up a sign up sheet, and was there the next morning - and that was on a Tuesday! If you are an experienced skydiver, and looking for a place to go for a week, check out SDAZ! (But not sure about being in a desert during the summer, so maybe think about late fall - early spring). read more

Lives up to the hype plus some! Well organized and well run machine. You check in, watch a video and then in a few minutes you meet the person who are you tandem jumping with. My tandem jumper was Sandy and was awesome! In about twenty minutes you are on the plane, in another 10 minutes you are 12000 feet in the air and in the next 5 you are jumping out of an airplane. I went to Skydive Arizona today for my first Jump to honor a buddy on his birthday we lost recently who trained there (not jump related). I had emailed them to see if there might be anything they would want to do for him and understood they are busy. Within a few seconds of checking in one of the staff came over and said how she remembered my friend and as well as a few others who had nothing but kind words about him. They went above and beyond for me and made my experience today one to remember. The experience was great overall from start to finish to my awesome instructor to the wonderful ladies inside.
