Holy. Shit. What an absolutely insane experience…read more I went skydiving and got paired up with an instructor named Joel, and let me just say -- this guy is a total badass. From the second we geared up, he made me feel completely safe while also hyping me up like we were about to jump into a damn action movie. When we hit altitude and that door opened, my heart was pounding out of my chest. I looked at Joel and he just grinned like, "Let's f***ing do this." And then we were out. Free. Falling. The rush was unreal. The wind, the speed, the pure adrenaline -- it's the most alive I've ever felt. I was screaming, laughing, probably swearing my head off, and Joel was calm as hell, steering us through the sky like it was just another Sunday. The view was absolutely breathtaking, and the freefall felt like the longest, wildest roller coaster drop of my life. Then the parachute deployed smooth as hell, and suddenly everything went quiet and peaceful. We just floated there, taking in the view, and I couldn't stop saying, "This is so f***ing cool." Joel was professional, hilarious, confident, and made the whole thing unforgettable. If you're even thinking about skydiving -- stop overthinking it and just book it. Ask for Joel. You won't regret a damn thing. When the chute was open and we were approaching landing Joel taps me and said "look at the altimeter, you see that this is when we want to stop making big maneuvers and start slowing down, lucky for you I'm not a student and I'm the instructor." And then spun us into an insane spiral before jerking us up into a momentary weightlessness. It was exhilarating. To top it off, Joel also did a little spiritual/mindfulness/mentalization exercise midair. The dude made the experience not just adrenaline filled, but also made it into some type of therapy session with my heart rate in the 190's. Absolutely legendary fucking experience. Cassandra and Ethan at the front desk made it even better from check in to explaining everything. It was all around an amazing experience and they all are such great people. 10/10. Would jump out of a perfectly good airplane again.

An amazing hike! Start early, bring gloves, lunch/snacks, and water!…read more My friends and I hiked to the peak via the Sunset trail, taking the loop back down the Hunter trail (7.1 mi). The first part of the hike is very easy, just out in the open. Though, once you start climbing you are climbing! The gardening gloves we brought helped us feel more secure, so that we didn't lose our grip. Honestly, the pictures made it look more scary than doing it, but if you are afraid of heights do take caution. The cables felt very secure and I felt safe the whole time. The top is very rewarding! There are a lot of bees though, so I wouldn't recommend hanging out there too long. We ended up having our lunch at on of the campsite benches in the shade at the end of the Hunter trail, which was very nice. The last part of the hike is walking on the road, but we didn't mind it after the steep and rocky decline. The bathrooms in the park are incredibly nice for a state park and there were also water bottle fillers. This was a great hike and the Park is also very well-maintained!

I checked out Picacho Peak State Park, not to be confused with Pikachu, on a Saturday afternoon…read more Located between Phoenix and Tuscon, Picacho was a hike unlike any I've done before. After arriving, you have to pay a $10 entrance fee per person to hike (a bit annoying for a state park but o well). You're given a pamphlet about the park and then it's time for what you came for. We did Hunter's Trail and there was a good amount of parking close to the start of the trail. It's a difficult trail on Alltrails and for good reason. There are parts of the hike where it's so narrow that only one person can go through at the time. There are other parts of the hike where there are steep inclines. And not only that. You'll have to climb using the cables that have been attached to the rock formations. Pro tip: bring gloves. That also means you have to be careful on the way down as you're going down on a decline. Which will be hard on your knees. It's all worth it though, because once you climb the mountain, you'll have breathtaking views of the park. And you'll be so high up that you can see both Tucson and Phoenix in the distance. All in all, if you go at a decent pace, the hike will take you 3-4 hours. There's at least one other trail. And you can also camp in the state park. Last but not least, there's a little museum in the visitor's center. And plenty of facilities. You'll get quite the workout!

The instructor guided her very carefully for the full time she was in the wind tunnel. She has memories for a lifetime. The facility is very well organized, the bathrooms were neat and clean. She loved every second of it and can't wait to go back. All of the staff we encountered was incredibly friendly. It was a cold morning so the air in the tunnel was freezing. I'd recommend wearing layers if it's a cold day. The whole experience took about 30 minutes for a first time flyer. Highly recommend this place.

We came here for a birthday party and everyone had a blast. There are a lot of ponies to choose from, and the staff here know all their personalities to make sure they are a good match for your kid. When your kid goes on the trail you will be leading the pony and for the most part your pony will go on autopilot along the trail unless the staff members warn you about any quirks the pony has on the trail. There's also a carousel area where your pony will walk in a circle while your kid rides. They do have one full sized horse that children can ride with a staff member leading the horse on the trail. In addition to ponies there is a petting zoo with animals such as goats, chickens, donkeys and pigs. There's also a "gold mountain" area where kids can dig and if you are lucky, you might dig up a gold colored rock! Kids can also play on the swing set or pretend to rope a steer. I wouldn't have ever known this place existed had it not been for this birthday party. The ranch itself feels like it's in the middle of nowhere. Everyone here was very friendly and welcoming. The party area was in a large ramada with multiple tables.

These stables are like no other with the rescue horses they use to ride off-trail, absent of nose to tail riding, at a pace you'd like, and the lead wrangler and his assistant wrangler will ride alongside you. I like 'em so much I've become a regular student of theirs too. Recently, I felt 4 hours of springtime riding converted me into an upcoming female wrangler after having experienced the following: * their newly-discovered oasis in the desert near the Sonoran Desert National Monument where our horses were in paradise ensconced by plenty of green grass and freedom to drink from a pond * involvement in a search and rescue mission to find a mule that separated itself from its cowboy wrangler; and * a half-leg full of jumping cholla that my cowboy boot took a good majority of, thank heavens, but I was spared further agony when the lead wrangler removed 'em with his long-nose pliers. If I'm ever going to have a horse of my own, I most certainly would board it with them as well. Just 45 minutes from home I almost feel I own one already each time I'm out there riding. Places like this are hard to find these days, because I feel it won't be long before there'll be a Burger King with all that open space out there. That's why I feel I've got to make the most of it while I can.

My husband and I paid for an hour lesson/ride and after taking an hour to set up the horses, we rode for a full hour. We came back a couple days later and paid for two hours - Steve, our wrangler, brought along a second wrangler for the sole purpose of carrying our camera for us and getting FABULOUS shots of us riding through the desert. No trails - just a leisurely ride through the cactus and hills. The price was less than half what we were quoted by other stables and I can't imagine a better experience. I learn something every time we go. I should also mention... my husband has a fear of horses, but after these two rides, he is eager to ride again. I don't have a fear of horses, and I CAN'T WAIT to ride again! It's a pretty good drive, but is TOTALLY worth it.
