This place is amazing the staff are super friendly they go over everything with you! It was such a blissful experience I was on the plane one minute I was floating. Did tandem with Gleb he is so cool laid back and most importantly kept me alive lol. I would 100% come back and do this so many times if I could! A great way to face your fear of heights! I'll be back soon! read more

I had no idea there was another sky diving facility near Bakersfield. I'm so glad we found this place. Less than 30 minutes outside of Bakersfield. If you live in California or near the surrounding states you NEED to come here to skydive (go no where else!!). Oh my goodness what an experience, the instructor (George) is extraordinary, very professional and charismatic. He's a literal bada$$ and will set your mind at ease before the jump. The staff was friendly, informative and welcoming (my father in law, husband and I had a wonderful experience). For an adrenaline rush, great vibes and professionalism come here! They offer a video to purchase of your skydive as well. 100 stars ! read more

Awesome skydiving experience! If it's your first time these guys will put you at ease and safely take you thru an incredible first jump! If you are an experienced jumper you'll love the welcoming down to earth vibe. A true drop zone dedicated to skydiving, not a tandem factory. I had the best experience at Skydive San Joaquin Valley! Robin was awesome at getting us signed in and set up! Doug flew the 'KingCraft' for our group. I tandem jumped with George! He got me suited, harnessed, goggled, and prepared to jump! Everyone we encountered was friendly including other solo skydivers that we went up with! I can't wait to go again!!! read more

Just went for my first skydive and wow, what a phenomenal experience. DJ was my wonderful guide and he made the jump so much fun. I felt so safe and cared for. George and Robin are very accomodating to your needs and desires. We arrived with about 10 newbie jumpers with a few wanting to go AFF but all the details worked out splendidly. The facility is a quaint old cotton gin with nice restrooms, showers and place to change. We had a stellar day, perfect weather, terrific supportive other jumpers and good time was had by all. It's a short drive from the coast; there were even jumpers there who traveled from Korea to spend the week jumping here. Low key, low pressure, highly recommend. read more

Absolutely incredible!!! What a great experience, George & Robin were very nice to me as well as my family that came to watch. George was great and made me feel very comfortable with his instruction. Jumping out of a plane at 13,000 feet for the first time couldn't have been any cooler of an experience than with this crew. Thanks to George, Robin and all the cool people I met on the plane!!! We offer tandem skydiving, an Accelerated Free Fall Course accredited by the United States Parachute Association (USPA), up-to-date equipment and certified instructors dedicated to giving you the best and safest skydiving experience possible. We pride ourselves on being the closest skydiving business to Los Angeles! Our drop zone is 22 miles south-southwest of Bakersfield.

History

Established in 1980.

Skydive San Joaquin (pronounced Wah-keen) Valley (SSJV) is the brainchild of owner/operator George Kunz. When George was the primary pilot for another drop zone, many of his fellow jumpers told him he should open a place of his own. After all, he loves the sport, he flies the planes, he has all his instructor ratings and he's been skydiving forever. They said, Why not? He said, Why not? Pretty soon we all said, WHY NOT? George found the perfect property less than two miles off the I-5 freeway under spacious skies at the south end of California's beautiful central valley. With purple mountains on three sides and the valley stretching away to the north, SSJV nestles in the middle of the most productive farmland in the country. Surrounded by vineyards and orchards, the view from altitude above this fruited plain is spectacular.

However, in my experience, the area receives a lot of fishing pressure, and the catch is often limited to smaller fish. I originally purchased two trips through a Groupon to try out the fishery. On my first trip, we only caught very small whitefish and sculpin. If the size limit was still 10", we would have maybe had 20 keepers. If anyone had larger than a 1lb sculpin or 2lb whitefish, I would be surprised. Jackpot was a sheepshead. Unfortunately, I missed my second trip in June and later contacted the landing about redeeming it, especially since the yellowtail bite is strong right now. I was surprised to learn that I would need to pay a $55 rescheduling fee, despite already paying more than $100 for the trip, even with the Groupon discount. For regular or experienced anglers, I would not recommend this option. Parking in the area can exceed $40, although the landing mentions there are less expensive lots nearby. My credentials are not important, but I fish frequently and have considerable experience. Based on that experience, I did not find this trip to be a good value.

I remember when this park first opened up as a kid. The spray park was a complete game changer. The bucket seemed as large as any water parks. If you had asked me back then, I basically had the Nickelodeon hotel water park from TV for free at my local park. Whether it's the kiddos playing around in the water or us older folks dipping our heads under one of the water fixtures for a moment of relief on those warmer days, having a place to cool down is much appreciated by all.

There isn't much shade and the views don't change too much even with longer distances, but it sure is a great place to exercise outdoors in Bako. So far, I've spotted coyote, rabbits, and road runners while riding my bike. People on the path are friendly and courteous to others when sharing the road. There are some unhoused encampments along the side of the Parkway, but with so many people on the trail cycling, skating, running, and walking, it always feels very safe.

Its very outdoorsy and there are bugs but if you prepare you can really deter them. We spray our campsite upon arrival for ticks and fleas and roaches. We keep all food inside and clean up and throw away all trash. We don't use harsh led lights. We also jeep a low (one log) smoke fire going during the day as the smoke really helps keep em at bay but doesn't smoke out the campsite. Plus it smells good and makes it campier. Tips: bring outside sandals and watershoes. They have goat-head stickers that feel like tiny needles when stepped on and they are everywhere no matter how much to try to sweep. We have a no shoe policy in the rv so it really helps. Bring lots of bug spray for your person. Its a lake and there are lots of bugs. This place really is awesome for skiers. The rangers are serious about the safety and integrity of this place so of you're looking for a big party its not glamis. Go somewhere else. Cons: tent camping. Probably not the best place if its hot and muggy. You really need ac in these temps. The lake is a huge help but hey trailers are always better. The lake is slowly losing water level. But not by a whole lot. Maybe 5 feet in 20 years. So for boat owners with low props it could be a concern. The rangers are very vigilant. And while this isn't a con for me it could be for you. So mind your manners. A little goes a long way here. But if you want a good skiing lake this is the best place in Cali.

When you pay for a service 130 dollars for camp ground plus parking fee almost 150 dollars total. It's really fucking upsetting mediocre people run this facility. no working sinks as well .
